Yes, and it’s one of the wildest moments in the entire game. Genshin Impact 6.7 added the Frost Moon as a full explorable region, and tucked above it is an actual outer space area you can fly through freely. You can float between the surface of the Frost Moon and the planet Teyvat itself, looking out into the stars.

The catch is that getting there isn’t as simple as walking to a waypoint. You have to earn it by completing the right quest first and then navigating a space station filled with puzzles.

What You Need Before Reaching Outer Space

Before the space area opens up, you need to finish the When We Look Up at the Moon world quest. This is part of the Moon Gazing quest chain that runs through the Frost Moon region. It takes you through the full story of the Frost Moon and eventually brings you to the Space Lifeform Capture Station, the orbiting facility above Ungien’s Circle that serves as the gateway to space.

You cannot skip this requirement. The station and the space area beyond it stay locked until that quest is done. Once you clear it, the Station becomes permanently available on your map and you can return any time without replaying any quests.

What Is the Space Lifeform Capture Station

The Space Lifeform Capture Station is an ancient orbiting facility sitting above Ungien’s Circle in the Lunar Highlands. It was originally built by the dragon researcher Ungien as part of Project Moongazer, a mission to capture or contact an alien lifeform sending signals from deep space. You reach it by taking the massive Skymount elevator up from Ungien’s Circle.

The station itself is full of chests, puzzles, and lore, and it’s the last stop before you exit into actual open space and float over to the Moongazer ship.

How To Reach Outer Space in Genshin Impact Step by Step

Step 1: Complete When We Look Up at the Moon

Push through the Moon Gazing world quest chain until you finish the When We Look Up at the Moon quest. This unlocks the Space Lifeform Capture Station waypoint on your map and triggers access to the outer space area for the first time. If you haven’t done this yet, focus on the Moon Gazing quest series before attempting any of the steps below.

Step 2: Teleport to the Space Lifeform Capture Station

Open your map and fast travel directly to the Space Lifeform Capture Station. Since you unlocked it during the quest, it’ll be sitting there permanently. No need to take the elevator again — just teleport straight in.

Step 3: Move East Past the Closed Door

From the spawn point, head east and move past the closed door. Along the way you’ll find a Lost Flower of Ancient Times, which unlocks the Walking with Sweet Flowers achievement if you pick it up. There’s also a chest and a Lunoculus nearby — worth grabbing both before you move on.

Step 4: Use the Pearl Launcher

Head outside the station and make your way to the Ancient Moon Pearl Launcher. Activate it to send a Moon Pearl into the space station. Then head back inside, grab the chest that spawns, and interact with the Gravimeter to activate it. Open the Precious chest that appears, then check under the platform for three more chests.

Step 5: Open the Northern Door and Head Out

Go back up and open the northern door. Follow the passage past the warning signs. From here you’ll move into open space territory, using Shoaling Kuuhenki to float and glide your way forward. These Kuuhenki give you bursts of speed and lift in the low-gravity environment outside the station.

Step 6: Manage Your Archaeolume Storm Bar

This is the most important thing to keep in mind from this point forward. The Archaeolume Storm Incapacitation bar fills up constantly while you’re exposed to open space. If it maxes out, your character blacks out and gets sent back to a checkpoint. Stop at every Storm Occlusion Field you pass — these are the glowing safe-zone bubbles that drain the bar back down.

One of the Occlusion Fields along the path will be flickering and won’t fully restore your bar. When you hit that one, look for the Pioneer Source Structure next to it. Shoot Archaeolune Ripples at it to explode it, which fixes the flickering field and lets you fully recharge before continuing.

Step 7: Float to the Moongazer Ship

Keep floating forward using the Shoaling Kuuhenki, stopping at each Occlusion Field to top up your bar. Eventually you’ll spot the wreckage of the Moongazer ship ahead of you. Float toward it. The Moongazer is the spaceship originally built by Ungien to chase a deep-space signal — its story is one of the best bits of lore on the Frost Moon.

Step 8: Activate the Moongazer Waypoint

Once you reach the Moongazer ship, interact with the Moongazer teleportation waypoint to unlock it. This is now your permanent fast travel point to outer space. You’ll never have to redo the whole station run again.

Step 9: Explore the Moongazer Ship

Before floating off into open space, go inside the Moongazer ship itself. Inside you’ll find two Exquisite chests and one Precious chest. There’s also a glowing sphere you can interact with to read a note — worth checking for the lore context it gives on Ungien’s final voyage.

What Can You Do in Outer Space

Once you’ve activated the Moongazer waypoint, the space area opens up fully. You can float freely between the Frost Moon surface and the planet of Teyvat, looking at both from outside with nothing but stars around you. It’s one of the most visually striking moments the game has offered so far.

There are two Precious chests hidden in the Space Lifeform Capture Station area that are only reachable while exploring toward outer space, so make sure you don’t rush past them. Also keep the Occlusion Fields close — the bar fills noticeably faster in fully open space compared to inside the station corridor.

Tips for Exploring Outer Space in Genshin Impact

• Always stop at Storm Occlusion Fields. The fatigue bar moves fast in open space and you don’t want to black out near the end of the route.
• If an Occlusion Field is flickering, shoot the Pioneer Source Structure nearby to fix it before trying to recharge.
• Grab the Lost Flower of Ancient Times east of the spawn for the Walking with Sweet Flowers achievement — easy to miss on your first run.
