The Reconstructing Pailune quest sits under the Hope from Ashes questline in the Grounds of Sunrise section of your Greymanes faction log. It is a settlement management task, not a standard combat quest. That is why it has no marker and many players cannot find it.
Prerequisites – What You Need Before You Can Start
You cannot start the quest until all three conditions are met.
1. Defeat One-Armed Ludvig. You must finish the main campaign through Chapter 7: Homecoming. Pailune has to be fully liberated. If the Black Bears are still present, the reconstruction option will not appear.
2. Upgrade Howling Hill camp to level 2. Visit the Greymane Camp at Howling Hill in Hernand. Contribute resources or complete local bounties until the camp reaches level 2. 3. Stock the required resources in camp. The resources must be in your camp storage before you can dispatch.
Resources Required to Reconstruct Pailune
You need all of the following stocked in camp at the same time:
- 1,000 Stone
- 1,000 Timber
- 1,000 Food
- 10,000 Coins (equivalent to 100 Silver)
- 10 Greymane Recruits (Comrades dispatched to the mission)

How to Find the Reconstruct Pailune Quest – No Map Marker Fix
This is the part that confuses most players. The quest does not appear as a standard marker on your map. Here is how to find it.
Open your world map. Move the cursor over Pailune City. Do not click on a quest or NPC — hover directly over the city icon.
- Xbox: Press Y to inspect the city.
- PlayStation: Press Triangle to inspect.
- PC: Double-click the city name.
This opens the City Inspection menu. Under the missions list, you will see the Reconstructing Pailune entry. This is where the resource requirements are listed and where you can begin.
Alternatively, travel to the Greymane Camp at Howling Hill in Hernand. There is a quest marker near camp headquarters once your prerequisites are met. Interact with the quest giver there to trigger the Prepare to Rebuild Pailune objective.
Step-by-Step – How to Complete Reconstruct Pailune
Step 1 – Stock Your Camp
Make sure all five resources above are in your camp storage. If anything is short, farm it before proceeding. Large-scale expeditions are one of the better ways to gather bulk materials quickly.
Step 2 – Inspect Pailune on the Map
Follow the steps above to open the City Inspection menu. Find the Reconstructing Pailune quest entry and activate it.
Step 3 – Dispatch Greymanes
Once the quest is active and your resources are ready, dispatch your Greymanes to begin the preparation phase. You need at least 10 Recruits available for dispatch.
Step 4 – Speak to the Local Informant
After dispatching, an objective will prompt you to find a Local Informant inside the Greymane Camp. This NPC is easy to miss. Pin them on your map before you start searching. Speak to the Local Informant to move the objective forward.
Step 5 – Return to the Quest Giver
Follow any additional map pings through the camp as objectives update, then return to the quest giver to complete the preparation phase.
Step 6 – Wait for Reconstruction
Once Greymanes are dispatched, reconstruction takes 2 days and 6 hours in-game to complete. You can continue exploring and doing other content while you wait.
All Five Buildings You Construct in Pailune
Completing the initial preparation unlocks five individual construction projects. Each one requires its own resource donation. You work through them one at a time:
- Pailune Council – the first structure to go up after preparation is done.
- Institute of Pailune – tied to research and knowledge progression.
- Pailune Infirmary – supports healing and faction upkeep.
- Pailune Barracks – expands your military capacity in the region.
- Pailune Trading Post – opens new trade options in the rebuilt city.
Each building requires resource farming and donation to the camp. This phase extends the questline significantly. Plan ahead and keep gathering materials between other activities.

Common Problems – Why the Quest Is Not Showing
If Reconstructing Pailune is not appearing, check these things:
- Ludvig not defeated yet. You must fully complete Chapter 7 first. No reconstruction is possible while the Black Bears still occupy Pailune.
- Camp not at level 2. This is the most common blocker. The Dispatch ability does not exist below level 2.
- Not inspecting the city correctly. Standard map interaction will not show it. You need to hover the cursor over Pailune and use Y / Triangle / double-click to open the City Inspection menu.
- Not enough Comrades. If you have fewer than 10 available for dispatch, complete more Grounds of Sunrise faction quests to recruit more.
Tips for Farming Reconstruction Resources
- Stone and Timber farm well from large-scale expedition missions dispatched from camp.
- Do not sell raw materials while you are working toward reconstruction. Save them.
