Build Guide – Best Relics, Light Cone & Teams
🔥 S-TIER — PREMIER NIHILITY SUPPORT 🔥The Self-Proclaimed Healer · Acheron’s Perfect Partner
Jiaoqiu — a foxian counselor from the Xianzhou Yaoqing and an Alchemy Commission physician who withdrew from medicine due to a broken heart and returned to treat General Feixiao’s injuries, a cunning alchemist who greets everyone with a smile and specialises in the medicinal study of spiciness through his “nine-squared grid” cauldron formula — is a 5-star Fire Nihility character and Acheron’s single best support unit in Honkai: Star Rail. As of HSR 4.0 (February 2026), Jiaoqiu holds a strong S-Tier position as the most consistent, highest-uptime debuffer available to Nihility and DoT team compositions.
Jiaoqiu’s entire kit centres on one mechanic: Ashen Roast — a unique stacking debuff that simultaneously inflicts Vulnerability (increasing all DMG enemies receive) and acts as a persistent Fire DoT. Up to 5 stacks can accumulate on each enemy, with each stack amplifying incoming damage by an additional 5% (15% at 1 stack, up to 40% at 5 stacks). His Ultimate’s Zone then supercharges this system — equalising Ashen Roast stacks across all enemies, adding +15% Ultimate DMG vulnerability on top of the base vulnerability, and passively inflicting additional stacks whenever enemies take action inside the Zone.
Prydwen describes him as providing “maximum reward for minimal effort” — both forced and unforced gameplay errors are essentially meaningless for Jiaoqiu’s contribution, because his debuffs apply automatically and consistently without timing requirements. He is, in their words, simply “easy.” In Acheron teams specifically, his value is unparalleled — his Ashen Roast counts as a debuff for Acheron’s Slashed Dream stack generation, and the Zone passively generates more debuff stacks on every enemy action, replacing the need for Trend of the Universal Market on sustain units.
Meta Context — February 2026
Prydwen’s most recent character review (updated 29 January 2026) states: “He provides maximum reward for minimal effort, and it is absolutely a huge selling point… Not needing to time things to make sure your allies hit hardest, or accidentally fat-fingering an Ultimate when you didn’t mean to — none of this matters with Jiaoqiu. Both forced and unforced errors are completely meaningless for Jiaoqiu; the former doesn’t reduce his efficacy, and the latter simply can’t happen unless you DIE.”
This ease-of-play combined with his genuine S-Tier power level makes him one of the most recommended pull targets for players who want strong endgame performance without complex mechanical requirements. His debuffs apply with near-100% consistency at 140%+ EHR, his Zone generates additional stacks passively on enemy actions, and his placement in Acheron teams is as close to irreplaceable as any support can be.
- Prydwen (Jan 29 2026): S-Tier across MoC, PF, and AS — described as a “strong debuffing support with decent DoT capabilities” who is “particularly excellent for Acheron teams due to his unparalleled debuff reapplication”
- Mobalytics: S-Tier support — “a stellar unit for Acheron, and a good secondary debuffer for other team comps.” Notes he is “almost glued to Acheron” but can slot into most teams
- Game8 (February 2026 Tier List): Rated in SS/S-Tier range for Acheron compositions in both MoC and AS
- KQM: Identifies him as “the premier Acheron support” capable of inflicting debuffs during both his own turns and enemy actions — uniquely consistent in debuff uptime
- FRVR (February 2026): Explicitly lists “Acheron + Jiaoqiu + Silver Wolf + Aventurine” as the core “Nihility Nuke” team, one of the strongest compositions in the current meta
- Honest caveat: Outside of Acheron teams specifically, Jiaoqiu is a weaker support than top Harmony units (Sunday, Robin). His niche is deep but focused — invest in him when you have or plan to build Acheron.
Kit Breakdown & Ashen Roast System
Ashen Roast is Jiaoqiu’s defining mechanic — a unique debuff that serves triple duty as a Vulnerability amplifier, a Fire DoT, and an Acheron Slashed Dream generator. Key rules:
- Application: Jiaoqiu’s Basic Attack, Skill, and Ultimate all have a 100% base chance to inflict 1 stack of Ashen Roast on hit targets. This means every action Jiaoqiu takes applies the debuff — no special timing required. The Talent (Quarter Finesse, Octave Finery) is the source of this 100% application mechanic.
- Vulnerability scaling: 1 stack = +15% DMG taken by all ally attacks. Each additional stack adds +5% — reaching +40% total DMG taken at 5 stacks. At E6, max stacks increase to 9 with an additional All-Type RES reduction per stack.
- Fire DoT: Enemies with Ashen Roast also take Fire DMG at the start of each of their turns — counting as a Burn effect. This enables Prisoner in Deep Confinement relic set bonuses (for DEF ignore in DoT teams) and contributes to Kafka/Black Swan’s Arcana stack mechanics.
- Acheron synergy: Each Ashen Roast stack counts as a separate debuff for Acheron’s Slashed Dream generation. Because Ashen Roast can stack up to 5 on a single enemy, Jiaoqiu contributes multiple Slashed Dream charges per cycle without Acheron needing to act. At E2 Acheron (who only needs Nihility allies), Jiaoqiu alone satisfies the Nihility debuff requirement.
- Duration: Ashen Roast lasts 2 turns per stack. Without the Zone’s passive reapplication, stacks can fall off if enemies act twice without Jiaoqiu attacking. The Zone addresses this — enemies inside the Zone have a chance of gaining Ashen Roast when they take action, passively maintaining and building stacks throughout the Zone’s duration.
Ashen Roast Stack Values
Jiaoqiu’s Ultimate “Pyrograph Arcanum” sets all enemies’ Ashen Roast stacks to the highest current count on the field, then activates the Zone for 3 turns. Inside the Zone:
- +15% Ultimate DMG Vulnerability: All enemies inside the Zone take +15% increased damage from Ultimate abilities on top of the base Ashen Roast vulnerability. This is Acheron’s primary damage amplifier — Jiaoqiu’s Zone is the reason Acheron’s Ultimate hits so dramatically hard.
- Passive Ashen Roast stacking: When enemies take action inside the Zone, there is a 50% base chance per action of gaining 1 stack of Ashen Roast (up to 6 total triggers per Zone duration, resetting when Jiaoqiu re-casts Ultimate). Each enemy can only trigger this once per turn.
- Replaces Trend of the Universal Market: Because the Zone passively applies debuffs on enemy actions, Acheron teams with Jiaoqiu no longer need a Preservation sustain carrying Trend of the Universal Market. Jiaoqiu’s passive Zone application supplies the Slashed Dream stacks Trend previously provided — freeing the sustain slot for any healer or shielder.
- Pure Fiction power spike: In Pure Fiction where many enemies act simultaneously, the Zone’s 50% per-action reapplication fires on every enemy every turn — rapidly pushing all enemies to max Ashen Roast stacks and generating enormous Slashed Dream charge for Acheron far faster than in single-enemy content.
- Ultimate timing: Use Ultimate as soon as it’s ready — the Zone’s passive stack generation is ongoing damage amplification. Unlike most DPS characters, there is no timing requirement for Jiaoqiu’s Ultimate. Just cast it when available.
Against Acheron: Use Technique before battle (all enemies gain 1 Ashen Roast). Turn 1: Use Skill (ramp primary target to 2–3 stacks). Turn 2: Skill again if SP allows, or Basic Attack if SP is needed for Acheron. Turn 3: Ultimate when ready (equalise all stacks, activate Zone, Zone passively maintains and grows stacks). After Ultimate: spam Basic Attack to generate SP for Acheron/Silver Wolf/Pela, letting the Zone’s passive stacking do the maintenance work. Recast Ultimate as soon as Energy is full (ERR rope recommended for 3–4 turn cycles). That’s it — Prydwen’s “laughably easy to play” description is accurate.
In DoT teams: After initial stack ramp, use Basic Attacks mostly. The Zone is less critical in DoT teams — Kafka/Black Swan provide their own DoT mechanics — so Jiaoqiu acts more as an ATK buffer and Vulnerability provider than an Ultimate-cycling machine. ATK% rope instead of ERR is viable in DoT teams per KQM.
Effect Hit Rate Thresholds
EHR is Jiaoqiu’s defining stat — it simultaneously governs debuff reliability, ATK% scaling from Hearth Kindle, and the power of his signature LC’s Unarmored debuff. Every build decision flows from hitting the right EHR threshold:
EHR main stat on Body piece (38.4% at Level 15) + Pan-Cosmic Commercial Enterprise ornament (+10% EHR + ATK equal to 25% of EHR) = approximately 48.4% from main stats. Remaining ~92% comes from EHR substats (each roll ≈ 4–6%) and the signature LC (Those Many Springs at S1: +60% EHR — making 140%+ trivial). Without the signature: 3–4 EHR substat rolls on good pieces + 4-star EHR LC (Eyes of the Prey: +24% EHR) can reach 100–120%; supplement with more substat rolls for the remaining gap. Pan-Cosmic is particularly efficient — its ATK bonus scales with EHR, meaning every EHR roll simultaneously improves debuff reliability AND ATK% from Hearth Kindle AND Pan-Cosmic ATK contribution.
Best Light Cones
Those Many Springs
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Signature — Best in Slot
Why it’s #1: Jiaoqiu’s signature LC is a comprehensive support tool that addresses every core build requirement simultaneously. At S1 it provides +60% EHR — which alone pushes most builds from 80% to 140%+ EHR (the Hearth Kindle maximum) without needing extensive substat investment, freeing rolls for SPD and ATK%. Additionally, after Jiaoqiu uses Basic Attack, Skill, or Ultimate to attack an enemy, there is a 60% base chance to inflict Unarmored on a random target — causing them to take +18% increased DMG for 2 turns at S1.
Unarmored is a separate debuff from Ashen Roast, stacking multiplicatively with the Ashen Roast vulnerability — making it an additional multiplicative DMG amplifier on top of Jiaoqiu’s existing kit. In Acheron teams, Unarmored also counts as a separate debuff for Slashed Dream generation. The 60% base chance means higher EHR (160–180% recommended with signature) ensures Unarmored reliably lands even on bosses with high Effect RES. Target 180% EHR with this LC for guaranteed application.
Reforged Remembrance
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Black Swan’s Signature — Strong AltPremium Alternative: Provides +40–60% EHR (S1–S5) and stacks “Prophet” buffs when dealing DMG to enemies with Wind Shear, Burn, Shock, or Bleed — up to 4 stacks granting ATK% and enabling DoT DEF ignore. Jiaoqiu’s Ashen Roast counts as Burn — meaning he can trigger Prophet stacks, gaining ATK% and DoT DEF ignore from his own debuff. However, only 1 Prophet stack per DoT type per battle can be gained, limiting the maximum bonus in Acheron non-DoT teams. GosuGamers lists it as a top alternative for players who own Black Swan’s LC. The EHR contribution is comparable to the signature; the defensive DEF ignore is niche but valuable in DoT teams.
Incessant Rain
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Silver Wolf’s Signature — Versatile AltExcellent Debuff Alternative: Provides +24–40% EHR (S1–S5) and when the wearer deals DMG to an enemy with 3+ debuffs, CRIT Rate increases by 12–20%. After any Basic/Skill/Ultimate attack, implants Aether Code on a random enemy target that doesn’t already have it — Aether Code causes the target to take +12–20% increased DMG for 1 turn. In Jiaoqiu’s kit, Aether Code is an additional damage vulnerability debuff (stacking with Ashen Roast) and contributes a Slashed Dream charge for Acheron if Aether Code counts as a debuff. GosuGamers lists Incessant Rain as a top Jiaoqiu alternative. The CRIT Rate bonus is a wasted personal stat on a pure support, but Aether Code’s DMG amplification is valuable.
Eyes of the Prey
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best F2P 4-StarBest Accessible Non-5-Star: Provides +24–40% EHR (S1–S5) and +24–40% DoT DMG. The EHR contribution at S5 is significant — 40% EHR covers a substantial portion of the 140% target from a single 4-star LC. The DoT DMG bonus amplifies Ashen Roast’s Fire DoT output — relevant in DoT-focused builds where Jiaoqiu’s personal damage contribution matters. Eyes of the Prey is the recommended 4-star option for players who don’t have a 5-star Nihility LC with EHR; it directly addresses both key build requirements (EHR and Ashen Roast DoT scaling). Obtainable from the Gacha standard pool.
Before the Tutorial Mission Starts
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Energy Support ToolEnergy Economy Specialist: When the wearer attacks an enemy affected by DEF reduction, Jiaoqiu regenerates Energy — accelerating Ultimate cycling. KQM specifically notes: “Jiaoqiu is able to equip Before the Tutorial Mission Starts, as Pela provides DEF Reduction for its Energy regeneration.” In teams where Pela applies DEF shred on Basic Attacks, this LC enables Jiaoqiu to cycle his Ultimate more frequently without an ERR rope — freeing the rope slot for ATK%. The EHR contribution is limited compared to dedicated EHR LCs; primarily a team-synergy pick in Pela+Jiaoqiu compositions.
Good Night and Sleep Well
⭐⭐⭐⭐ DoT DMG OptionDoT Team DMG Booster: DMG dealt by the wearer increases by 12% for each debuff the target enemy has (up to 3 debuffs — maximum +36% DMG). In Jiaoqiu’s kit, enemies always have Ashen Roast stacks (1+ debuffs) — enabling the DMG bonus immediately from Turn 1. At 3+ debuffs (Ashen Roast + additional team debuffs), Good Night reaches full +36% DMG amplification. Works best in DoT teams where Kafka’s Shock, Black Swan’s Arcana, and Jiaoqiu’s Ashen Roast all stack simultaneously. Less impactful in Acheron-only compositions where Jiaoqiu isn’t the primary DoT contributor.
Those Many Springs is genuinely Jiaoqiu’s best LC and meaningfully improves his output through EHR simplification and the Unarmored debuff multiplier. However, Jiaoqiu at S-Tier operates perfectly well without it — Eyes of the Prey (S5) and good EHR substats cover the 140% threshold, and the Unarmored debuff’s additional DMG amplification, while impactful, is not required for Jiaoqiu to fill his role. If you’re pulling the signature specifically for Jiaoqiu, assess whether you also plan to use it on Black Swan (who benefits even more from it as a DoT DPS character). The signature is worth pulling if you actively play Acheron teams and want maximum output — otherwise, 4-star EHR LCs are fully functional.
Best Relic Sets
4-Piece Cavity Relics
Why It’s #1: The 2-piece Wind DMG is entirely wasted on Jiaoqiu — but the 4-piece is one of the strongest support abilities in the game: after using Ultimate, Jiaoqiu’s next action immediately advances by 25%. This means he can use Ultimate, advance forward, use a Basic Attack (SP generation), and then apply more debuffs faster than his base SPD would allow. In Acheron teams where Jiaoqiu needs to maintain Zone uptime and consistently push Ashen Roast stacks, the 25% advance effectively increases his action density. Per Mobalytics and GosuGamers: Eagle is the correct relic for Acheron compositions. The wasted 2-piece bonus is irrelevant compared to the 4-piece value. Note: This requires significant SPD investment to get maximum benefit — Prydwen notes it is “for min-maxers” who have high SPD rolls.
Why It’s Best in DoT Teams: In Kafka + Black Swan + Jiaoqiu compositions, enemies are simultaneously afflicted with multiple DoTs — Shock (Kafka), Arcana (Black Swan), and Ashen Roast (Jiaoqiu). With 3+ DoTs, Prisoner grants Jiaoqiu 18% DEF ignore on all his damage — significantly boosting his own DoT contribution. The 2-piece +12% ATK also scales his Ashen Roast DoT output since the debuff’s damage is ATK-based. KQM and GosuGamers explicitly recommend Prisoner for DoT team Jiaoqiu builds. Not as valuable in Acheron teams where Jiaoqiu’s personal damage is secondary to his debuff and vulnerability role.
When to Use: The most common generalist setup for players without high-SPD Eagle pieces. Messenger 2-piece provides SPD +6% (enabling faster action frequency and debuff reapplication) plus a team SPD buff after Ultimate — relevant in teams where other members also benefit from speed. GosuGamers and Sportskeeda both identify this as a balanced option for players who aren’t focused on a specific team archetype. Use while farming Eagle or Prisoner for the dedicated 4-piece sets. Mix the second 2-piece based on what has the best substat rolls available.
Planar Ornaments
Why It’s #1: Pan-Cosmic is purpose-built for Jiaoqiu’s EHR → ATK scaling kit. The +10% EHR directly contributes to the 140% target, and the ATK bonus (equal to 25% of total EHR, capped at 25% ATK) means high-EHR Jiaoqiu builds get a meaningful ATK% bonus for free. At 100% EHR in combat, Pan-Cosmic provides full +25% ATK — amplifying every Ashen Roast DoT hit significantly. This ornament solves two problems simultaneously: EHR threshold AND ATK scaling. Virtually all endgame Jiaoqiu players use Pan-Cosmic regardless of team composition. Community-wide consensus across KQM, Mobalytics, Game8, and GosuGamers.
When to Use: Sprightly Vonwacq enables Jiaoqiu to fire his Ultimate on Turn 1 of battle — the 40% action advance at 120+ SPD means he acts before most enemies, applies Ashen Roast, and potentially casts Ultimate before any enemy has a chance to act. In fights where getting the Zone active immediately is critical (high-priority boss encounters, difficult MoC sides), Vonwacq’s Turn 1 advance is transformative. The +5% ERR assists Ultimate cycling slightly. Mobalytics specifically recommends Vonwacq for players wanting guaranteed Zone uptime from Turn 1. Use in teams where the opening window is critical; use Pan-Cosmic for sustained multi-turn efficiency.
When to Use: In teams where the +10% team CRIT DMG is impactful — particularly Acheron compositions where Acheron’s Ultimate CRIT DMG is already very high and a 10% buff compounds into substantial damage. However, Broken Keel doesn’t contribute to EHR or ATK scaling — so it sacrifices Jiaoqiu’s own stat efficiency for team CRIT DMG. Only recommended if achieving 30%+ Effect RES is trivial (through EHR substats providing Effect RES as a byproduct) and if the DPS CRIT DMG gain outweighs Pan-Cosmic’s ATK bonus value. Sportskeeda lists it as an option for players who already have high EHR from other sources.
Stat Priorities
Main Stats
Target Stats
Substat Priority
- Effect Hit Rate — The most important substat on every relic piece. EHR simultaneously: (1) ensures Ashen Roast applies on every attack, (2) unlocks Hearth Kindle’s ATK% bonus (up to +24% ATK at 140% EHR), and (3) amplifies Pan-Cosmic’s ATK contribution (+25% ATK equal to EHR%). Roll every possible EHR substat until reaching the appropriate threshold (140% without signature; 160–180% with signature).
- SPD — More speed means more Jiaoqiu actions per combat cycle: more Ashen Roast reapplication, more SP generation, and faster Zone refresh. KQM and Game8 both emphasise SPD as a primary concern after EHR is satisfied. Target 134+ as a baseline; higher investment pushes toward 142–161 for competitive cycling. Eagle 4-piece builds particularly benefit from high SPD to maximise action advance value.
- ATK% — Ashen Roast’s Fire DoT damage scales with Jiaoqiu’s ATK. Hearth Kindle and Pan-Cosmic provide significant ATK% passively from the build structure — but ATK% substats compound this further. Particularly impactful in DoT teams where Jiaoqiu’s personal damage contribution is meaningful. Lower priority than EHR and SPD but valuable in any remaining substat slots.
- Effect RES — Jiaoqiu needs to continue acting to apply debuffs and cycle his Zone. CC effects (Freeze, Imprisonment) that prevent him from acting are catastrophic for Zone uptime and Ashen Roast maintenance. Roll Effect RES substats to reach 40–50%+ in content with CC-heavy enemies. Particularly important in Apocalyptic Shadow boss fights with status debuff mechanics.
Trace Priority
- Talent — “Quarter Finesse, Octave Finery”
The source of every Ashen Roast application and the Ashen Roast DoT damage. Higher Talent levels increase the base Ashen Roast application chance (reaching near-100% at max level) and the Fire DoT damage per stack. Every Talent level improvement applies to every Ashen Roast tick across the entire fight — this is Jiaoqiu’s highest-priority trace by a large margin. Max first, always. - Ultimate — “Pyrograph Arcanum”
Higher Ultimate levels increase the Fire DMG of the initial AoE hit and the Ashen Roast equalisation mechanic’s efficiency. More importantly, higher Ultimate level also improves the Zone’s passive Ashen Roast application chance for enemies acting inside the Zone — affecting every passive proc throughout Zone duration. Upgrade alongside Talent as the joint-primary investment for Acheron team Jiaoqiu. - Skill — “Scorch Onslaught”
Higher Skill levels increase the Fire DMG dealt to primary and adjacent targets. The Skill also provides the main vehicle for stacking Ashen Roast to 3–4 stacks in the opening turns of a fight — higher Skill DMG improves personal damage contribution during this ramp window. Third priority — upgrade after Talent and Ultimate are at comfortable investment levels. - Basic Attack — “Nine-Squared Assault”
Lowest priority for Jiaoqiu. He uses Basic Attack primarily for SP generation and Ashen Roast maintenance — not as a damage tool. Higher Basic Attack levels increase the single-target Fire DMG slightly. Upgrade last; cap at Level 6 when resources allow after all other traces are invested.
A4 — “Hearth Kindle”: For each 15% of Effect Hit Rate above 80%, Jiaoqiu’s ATK increases by 6% — maximum +24% ATK at 140% EHR. This is the reason EHR is the most important stat — it simultaneously enables debuff reliability AND personal ATK scaling. Unlock before anything else after Talent. This is not optional.
A2 — “Foxian Prayer”: When Jiaoqiu inflicts Ashen Roast on an enemy that already has Ashen Roast, restores a small amount of Energy for Jiaoqiu. In fights where enemies already have Ashen Roast stacks (most of the fight after the initial ramp), every Jiaoqiu action that applies stacks to already-debuffed enemies contributes to faster Ultimate cycling. Subtle but meaningful for Zone uptime in extended fights. Unlock second.
A6 — “Stochastic Reverberation”: When an enemy in the Zone takes action, if Ashen Roast is triggered (the passive application), all enemies in the Zone immediately receive 1 Ashen Roast stack. This means the Zone’s passive application is now an AoE event — every enemy action that procs Ashen Roast pushes the entire enemy lineup closer to the 5-stack maximum simultaneously. In Pure Fiction with 5 enemies all acting frequently, A6 enables very fast ramp to maximum Ashen Roast stacks across all targets. Unlock as soon as available.
Best Team Compositions
🔥 Acheron + Jiaoqiu — The Nihility Nuke
The canonical Jiaoqiu team and one of the strongest compositions in HSR 4.0. FRVR’s February 2026 tier list identifies “Acheron + Jiaoqiu + Silver Wolf + Aventurine” as the core “Nihility Nuke” team. Every unit serves a precise role:
Jiaoqiu’s role: Apply Ashen Roast for vulnerability debuffing (contributing Slashed Dream stacks to Acheron), maintain Zone for +15% Ultimate DMG Vulnerability and passive stack generation, and generate SP through Basic Attack spam between Zone refreshes. His Technique pre-applies 1 Ashen Roast to all enemies before Turn 1, and the Zone passively maintains stacks on enemy actions — meaning Acheron’s Ultimate fires against enemies with maximum vulnerability without requiring specific timing.
Silver Wolf’s role: Apply DEF reduction (enabling Before the Tutorial Mission Starts LC if Jiaoqiu runs it), implant Lightning Weakness (enabling Acheron’s full DMG output), and provide additional Slashed Dream stacks through her own debuffs. Pela is a strong budget substitute — her DEF shred is comparable and she’s accessible as a 4-star.
E2 Acheron note: At E2, Acheron only needs Nihility allies (not specific debuffs) — meaning Jiaoqiu + any Nihility character (Pela, Black Swan, Silver Wolf) satisfies the condition without needing the second debuffer to be a specific premium unit. Jiaoqiu at E0 + E2 Acheron is the gold standard composition.
🔥 Acheron + Jiaoqiu + Pela
The high-performing low-cost Acheron team identified explicitly by KQM. Pela — a free 4-star — serves as the second Nihility debuffer, providing DEF reduction via her Ultimate and generating Slashed Dream stacks through her debuff application. KQM notes: “Pela should hold Resolution Shines As Pearls of Sweat if available, so that her Basic ATKs can generate one point of Slashed Dream for Acheron.”
This team substitutes Silver Wolf (premium limited 5-star) with Pela (universally accessible 4-star) without dramatically reducing effectiveness — Pela’s DEF shred is competitive with Silver Wolf’s DEF reduction in raw damage amplification, and her Basic Attack + Resolution Shines AS Pearls of Sweat combination generates Slashed Dream charges passively. Gallagher as sustain (free from Standard Banner) keeps the team entirely low-investment while maintaining full S-Tier output. This is the recommended team for players building Jiaoqiu + Acheron without premium Nihility units.
🔥 DoT Powerhouse — Kafka + Black Swan
The DoT team composition where Jiaoqiu operates as a powerful sub-DPS and universal vulnerability debuffer rather than a pure Acheron support. Kafka detonates all DoT effects (including Ashen Roast) for bonus Lightning DMG — and Jiaoqiu’s Ashen Roast is an additional DoT target for Kafka’s detonation procs. Black Swan contributes Arcana stacks, Wind Shear DoT, and her own vulnerability mechanics — synergising with Jiaoqiu’s Ashen Roast (which is counted as Burn, contributing to Black Swan’s Arcana counting).
In this team, Jiaoqiu does not need to cycle his Ultimate as aggressively — KQM notes he can “use Basic ATKs” after the initial ramp, and an ATK% rope is viable instead of ERR. Prisoner in Deep Confinement replaces Eagle as the relic set. Huohuo as sustain provides energy regeneration that accelerates Kafka and Black Swan’s DoT-detonation cycles. dbltap calls this “a nice upgrade from Guinaifen for the well-established core of Kafka and Black Swan.”
🔥 Jiaoqiu as Universal Debuffer
Jiaoqiu as a generalist Vulnerability debuffer outside his core archetypes. KQM notes: “Due to the universal nature of Vulnerability, Jiaoqiu can find a place in any team.” The Ashen Roast +40% DMG taken at 5 stacks is a multiplicative amplifier for any DPS — not just Acheron or DoT characters. In Dr. Ratio teams, Ashen Roast contributes to the 3-debuff threshold required for Dr. Ratio’s FUA trigger. In Feixiao teams, the vulnerability debuff amplifies Flying Aureus DMG and the Ultimate hit.
However — Prydwen’s honest assessment is relevant here: “Outside of Acheron teams, he’s a weaker support than most of the top Harmony units.” Robin’s +25% FUA CRIT DMG and Ruan Mei’s RES PEN typically provide more total damage amplification to FUA teams than Jiaoqiu’s Vulnerability. Use Jiaoqiu in these compositions when you don’t have the optimal Harmony support, or when enemy content aligns well with Fire DoT contribution. He works — he’s just not maximally efficient outside his primary archetypes.
🔥 F2P Pure Fiction Sustainless
KQM’s identified “sustainless F2P team suited for Pure Fiction.” Jiaoqiu’s debuffs remain active throughout the entire battle, and Asta accelerates Herta’s action frequency (more turns = more Herta FUA triggers from below-50% HP enemies). Both Serval and Herta (4-star) can take advantage of Jiaoqiu’s Ultimate DMG Vulnerability from the Zone — Herta’s follow-up attacks and Serval’s DoT chains all benefit from the +15% Ultimate DMG amplification when enemies are inside the Zone.
This team opts for no sustain in Pure Fiction where enemy damage is manageable and wave-clearing speed takes priority over survival. Jiaoqiu’s Ashen Roast Fire DoT contributes meaningful passive damage throughout each wave, while Asta’s SPD buff and ATK% enable Herta to act more frequently and generate more Herta Store currency per battle. An excellent budget composition for players who want to clear PF without investing in premium 5-star carries.
Eidolons Guide
| Eidolon | Effect | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| E0 | Complete, fully functional S-Tier support kit — 100% Ashen Roast application on all attacks, Zone with +15% Ultimate DMG Vulnerability, passive AoE Ashen Roast reapplication on enemy actions, Hearth Kindle ATK scaling, and Technique pre-application. Jiaoqiu at E0 is everything the character needs to be. All endgame content clears with E0. No eidolons are required for his S-Tier rating. Build him, max his traces, and enjoy. | Complete — S-Tier at E0 |
| E1 | “Crimson Beacon” — Allies deal 40% increased DMG to enemies afflicted with Ashen Roast. Additionally, when Jiaoqiu’s Talent is triggered, the number of Ashen Roast stacks gained is doubled.
The +40% DMG to Ashen Roast-afflicted enemies is an enormous team-wide damage amplifier — applied to every ally attack against every debuffed enemy. Since Ashen Roast is always active in Jiaoqiu fights, E1 effectively grants the entire team +40% more damage unconditionally. The doubling of Talent stacks also accelerates reaching higher Ashen Roast counts. Prydwen identifies E1 as a significant jump in team damage — it transforms Jiaoqiu from “strong debuffer” to “team-wide DPS amplifier” in a single eidolon. |
Major Team DPS Upgrade |
| E2 | “Numinous Inscription” — The DMG multiplier from the Ashen Roast DoT that the enemy takes at the start of their turns increases by 300%.
Triples the Fire DoT damage from Ashen Roast — transforming Jiaoqiu from a pure support into a viable sub-DPS contributor in DoT compositions. At E2, Jiaoqiu’s personal damage output from Ashen Roast DoT becomes meaningful enough that a Fire DMG% sphere and ATK% rope become competitive options. Primarily relevant for DoT team Jiaoqiu players who want his damage to be more than negligible. Less impactful in pure Acheron support builds where the DoT damage was never the focus. |
DoT DPS Enabler |
| E4 | “Firedamp Ablaze” — When Jiaoqiu’s Zone exists, reduces the ATK of all enemies caught inside the Zone by 15%.
A defensive utility eidolon — reduces enemy ATK by 15% during Zone uptime, decreasing incoming damage to all allies. Particularly valuable in content where enemies deal high ATK-based physical or elemental damage. Doesn’t directly improve Jiaoqiu’s offensive contribution but reduces the required healing threshold — effectively making sustain easier and enabling more aggressive team compositions. A nice defensive bonus; not a priority over E1 or signature LC. |
Defensive Comfort |
| E6 | “Pyre of Arcanum” — When an enemy target with Ashen Roast is defeated, all of their Ashen Roast stacks are transferred to the enemy with the lowest number of stacks. The maximum stack limit increases to 9, and each stack reduces the enemy’s All-Type RES by 3% (total 27% All-Type RES reduction at 9 stacks).
At 9 stacks with the All-Type RES reduction: enemies take +60% DMG from vulnerability (9×5% + 15% base) + 27% All-Type RES reduction — an extraordinary combined amplifier. The stack transfer on enemy defeat also ensures Ashen Roast stacks carry over between waves in Pure Fiction, removing the ramp time needed for new enemies. E6 is whale-tier but genuinely transformative for the character’s ceiling. |
Whale Tier — Exceptional |
Jiaoqiu is complete at E0. If you plan to invest in eidolons, E1 is the only one worth targeting specifically — the +40% team DMG to Ashen Roast-afflicted enemies is a colossal team-wide DPS increase that transforms the character’s value in Acheron compositions. E2 is relevant specifically for DoT-focused builds wanting personal damage output. E4’s ATK reduction is defensive comfort. E6 is a profound whale investment with genuine endgame impact. Outside of E1 and E6, the intermediate eidolons are quality-of-life rather than essential power unlocks. Spend your Stellar Jade on E1 if you have the resources; otherwise, E0 is entirely sufficient for S-Tier endgame performance.
Should You Pull Jiaoqiu?
✅ Pull If:
- You own or are actively building Acheron — Jiaoqiu is her undisputed best support, providing Slashed Dream charge generation, vulnerability debuffing, Zone Ultimate DMG amplification, and passive debuff application that no other unit replicates at his consistency level.
- You want to play a Nihility debuffer who is genuinely the easiest S-Tier to operate — Prydwen’s assessment of “maximum reward for minimal effort” is accurate. No timing windows, no animation cancelling, no complex rotations. Apply Ashen Roast, cast Ultimate when available, generate SP. Done.
- You play Kafka + Black Swan DoT teams and want a powerful third DoT contributor who also provides universal Vulnerability — Jiaoqiu upgrades this team significantly over alternatives like Guinaifen.
- You want a support who contributes meaningfully in all three endgame modes — his Vulnerability debuff works everywhere, his Zone works in MoC and AS boss fights, and Pure Fiction with large enemy counts is where he’s most powerful.
- You enjoy the Xianzhou Yaoqing aesthetic and the fox counselor character — he is a well-written, interesting character with a genuinely funny “self-proclaimed healer who cannot heal” premise.
⚠️ Consider Skipping If:
- You don’t own and don’t plan to build Acheron or Kafka — outside these archetypes, Jiaoqiu is a noticeably weaker support than top Harmony units (Sunday, Robin, Ruan Mei) who provide higher team damage amplification in FUA and Break teams
- You’re saving for a DPS or Harmony support who fits your current roster better — Jiaoqiu is a deep specialist rather than a universal pick
- You already have Silver Wolf and Pela covering Acheron’s Nihility requirements adequately — Jiaoqiu is the upgrade, not the only option
Final Verdict: Jiaoqiu is one of the most elegantly designed support characters in HSR — a high-uptime vulnerability debuffer whose entire kit delivers enormous team value without any mechanical complexity or timing requirements. He is Acheron’s best partner, a strong DoT team third unit, and a genuinely S-Tier support whose power ceiling (especially at E1 and E6) is among the highest in the Nihility roster. His specialisation makes him a focused investment: build Jiaoqiu when you build Acheron, and the pairing will reward you in every content mode for the foreseeable future.
Jiaoqiu vs Other Nihility Supports
vs Silver Wolf: Silver Wolf provides Lightning Weakness implantation (critical for Acheron’s full DMG output in non-Lightning-weak content), DEF reduction, and debuff implanting. Jiaoqiu provides higher-frequency Ashen Roast vulnerability and Zone Ultimate DMG amplification. They are best used together (Jiaoqiu + Silver Wolf + Acheron) — and in content where only one Nihility slot is available, Jiaoqiu’s uptime and Zone value typically edge out Silver Wolf’s in pure Acheron damage terms.
vs Pela: Pela is the accessible 4-star budget Jiaoqiu substitute — her DEF shred is strong, she provides Slashed Dream stacks through Resolution LC, and she’s free to obtain. Jiaoqiu outperforms Pela in every metric: higher vulnerability, passive Zone generation, and Fire DoT contribution. Pela is the right choice when you can’t pull Jiaoqiu; Jiaoqiu is the upgrade when available.
vs Black Swan: Black Swan focuses on DoT-centric teams (Kafka compositions) and provides her own Arcana stacking system — her primary archetype is DoT, not Acheron support. Jiaoqiu’s Ashen Roast is a Burn, synergising with Black Swan’s mechanics; they can both be used in Kafka teams simultaneously. In pure Acheron support terms, Jiaoqiu outperforms Black Swan due to Zone Ultimate DMG Vulnerability.
