Who Is Nahida in Genshin Impact?

Nahida is a 5-star Dendro Catalyst character from Sumeru in Genshin Impact. She is the Dendro Archon — the god of wisdom and dreams who presides over the nation of Sumeru. She is also known by her divine titles: Lesser Lord Kusanali and Buer. Her constellation is named Sapientia Oromasdis, meaning “Wisdom of Ahura Mazda” in reference to Persian mythology, and her birthday is October 27.

She became playable in Version 3.2, released on November 2, 2022. Despite being the Archon of an entire nation, Nahida is the youngest of the Seven by far — only around 500 years old. Normal Attack – Akara

Nahida performs up to four consecutive Dendro hits. Her Charged Attack deals AoE Dendro DMG after a short casting time. Her Plunging Attack deals AoE DMG on landing. Normal Attacks are only meaningfully used when Nahida is on-field as a Dendro driver. In off-field Sub-DPS builds, they are never prioritized.

Elemental Skill – All Schemes to Know

This is the core of Nahida’s entire kit. The Skill has two versions:

Tap: Nahida quickly attacks nearby enemies, dealing AoE Dendro DMG and marking hit enemies with the Seed of Skandha. Fast and low-commitment.
Hold: Nahida enters an aiming mode with a 5-second window. During this window she can mark up to 8 enemies simultaneously with a single held Skill. Enemies linked by Seeds of Skandha share damage — when one marked enemy is hit by an elemental reaction, Nahida fires Tri-Karma Purification at all connected targets.

Tri-Karma Purification is the engine of her damage. When any elemental reaction is triggered on a marked enemy, Nahida automatically deals Dendro DMG scaled on both her ATK and Elemental Mastery to that enemy and all others linked by Seeds of Skandha. This fires off-field without Nahida needing to be the active character. The Seeds of Skandha last 20 seconds, giving ample time for reactions to trigger and chain damage across all marked targets.

Elemental Burst – Illusory Heart

Nahida deploys the Shrine of Maya — a large AoE field that lasts 15 seconds with a 13.5-second cooldown and only costs 50 Energy. Inside the Shrine, Nahida’s Elemental Skill gains enhanced effects depending on which elements are present in the party at the time of casting:

Pyro character present: Increases the DMG dealt by Tri-Karma Purification
Electro character present: Decreases the interval between Tri-Karma Purification triggers, allowing more procs per second

Each effect scales based on whether 1 or 2 characters of that element are in the party. Having 2 Electro characters gives a stronger interval reduction than having just 1, for example. Compassion Illuminated (1st Ascension): While the Shrine of Maya is active, the Elemental Mastery of the active character on the field increases by 25% of the party member with the highest Elemental Mastery, up to a maximum of 250 EM. On-Field Dendro Driver

C1 – The Seed of Stored Knowledge: When the Shrine of Maya is deployed, the effect of the Elemental Burst gains an additional tier of enhancement based on the number of each element type in the party. If there are two Pyro characters, the Tri-Karma Purification DMG boost from Pyro is stronger. Same applies for Electro and Hydro. Effectively doubles the Burst’s elemental enhancement in teams with double-element characters.
C2 – The Root of All Fullness (Best and Most Important): Opponents who are affected by Seeds of Skandha are also afflicted with Flowerblight Karma when a Dendro Core created through Bloom reactions or certain other effects is nearby. Flowerblight Karma-affected enemies who are hit by Tri-Karma Purification become Scorched — and crucially, Nahida’s Tri-Karma Purification damage and all Transformative Reactions from the team can now score CRIT hits against Scorched enemies, with a bonus 20% CRIT Rate and 100% CRIT DMG. Enabling CRIT on reactions that previously could not CRIT is one of the single largest power upgrades any character provides in the game. In Bloom and Hyperbloom teams, this constellation nearly doubles the effective ceiling of those reactions. C2 is the recommended stopping point for players who want to invest in Nahida.
C3 – The Shoot of Conscious Attainment: Increases the talent level of her Elemental Skill by 3. Directly boosts Tri-Karma Purification’s damage scaling — a meaningful DPS increase given how often it triggers.

Elemental Skill – All Schemes to Know (Highest Priority): Tri-Karma Purification damage scales directly with this talent. Since it fires off-field constantly throughout every fight, leveling this has the most immediate impact on her overall contribution. Crown this first.
Elemental Burst – Illusory Heart (Second): Leveling the Burst enhances all the elemental bonuses inside the Shrine of Maya — more Tri-Karma Purification DMG from Pyro, faster triggers from Electro, longer duration from Hydro. A meaningful second investment, especially in teams where her Burst effects are the primary support mechanic.

How to Play Nahida – Rotation and Tips

Nahida’s rotation is quick in off-field builds. Here is the standard setup for an Aggravate or Hyperbloom team:

Swap to Nahida and use her Hold Elemental Skill to mark all enemies within range with Seeds of Skandha — up to 8 targets at once.
Use her Elemental Burst to deploy the Shrine of Maya and activate the elemental bonuses from your team composition.
Swap to your main DPS. As they fight, any elemental reaction on a marked enemy triggers Tri-Karma Purification automatically off-field.
When the Seeds of Skandha expire (after 20 seconds), swap back to Nahida and refresh them with another Skill cast.

The Dendro Hypostasis is the most efficient farm as it drops both Nagadus Emerald and Quelled Creeper simultaneously.
Quelled Creeper — Dropped exclusively by the Dendro Hypostasis, found in the Land of Lower Setekh in Sumeru’s southern desert. Remember to bring a Dendro character — one is required to finish off the Dendro Hypostasis in its final phase. You need 46 total.
Kalpalata Lotus — A local specialty from Sumeru found growing on cliff faces and rocky mountainsides throughout the rainforest. Key locations include west of Sumeru City, south of Vimara Village, and near the Chasm border. They can be purchased from Aramani, an Aranara NPC in the dream version of Vanarana, for 1,000 Mora each (5 per restock). You need 168 total.
Fungal Spores, Luminescent Pollen, Crystalline Cyst Dust — Dropped by Fungi enemies scattered throughout Sumeru’s jungle and desert. All sizes and elemental types drop these materials. You need 18 Spores, 30 Pollens, and 36 Dusts for full ascension.

Talent Ascension Materials

Books of Ingenuity (Teachings, Guide, Philosophies of Ingenuity) — Farmed from the Steeple of Ignorance domain in Sumeru, available on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. You need 9 Teachings, 63 Guides, and 114 Philosophies to max one talent.
Fungal Drops — Same Fungi drops as above. Additional quantities needed for talent upgrades on top of ascension quantities.
Puppet Strings — Dropped by the Joururi Workshop weekly boss (Shouki no Kami, the Prodigal — Scaramouche’s deity form) in Sumeru City. There is a certain satisfaction in using the material dropped by a machine built to replace Nahida to power up Nahida herself. You need 18 total to max all three talents. Nahida Lore and Story

Nahida’s story is one of the most moving in Genshin Impact. When the previous Dendro Archon, Greater Lord Rukkhadevata, died during the great cataclysm five hundred years ago, Nahida was born to take her place. Almost immediately, the sages of the Akademiya — the institution that governs Sumeru — took the newborn god and imprisoned her in the Sanctuary of Surasthana, a gilded cage at the top of the city where she has lived ever since.

The Akademiya’s reason for the imprisonment was that Nahida was not like her predecessor. Rukkhadevata had been a grand and powerful deity who founded the Akademiya and shaped Sumeru’s rainforest. Nahida, by comparison, seemed diminished — a child, young and unproven. Rather than acknowledge their new god, the sages encouraged the population to continue worshipping the memory of Rukkhadevata instead. The Sabzeruz Festival — Nahida’s birthday — was treated as a minor occasion by most of Sumeru, celebrated only by a small number of devoted followers like Dunyarzad and Nilou.

For five hundred years, Nahida could only experience the world through dreams and the Akasha Terminals worn by Sumeru’s citizens. She watched, listened, and learned — observing human life at a remove, collecting fragments of experience she could never live directly. This is why, despite her age, she approaches new experiences with the wonder of someone seeing them for the first time. Everything is genuinely new to her.

The Traveler’s arrival in Sumeru sets in motion the events that ultimately free her. The Archon Quest of Chapter III reveals the full depth of her imprisonment, the sages’ conspiracy, and Nahida’s quiet, extraordinary resilience. At the story’s end she assumes her rightful place as the ruling Archon of Sumeru — something she had waited five centuries for. She finally celebrated her own birthday properly at the Sabzeruz Festival during the Version 5.1 Chromatic Ode of Candies and Roses event in October 2024.

She has a habit of posing observations as questions — inviting others to think rather than simply telling them what she knows. Is Nahida Worth Pulling in Genshin Impact?
