All Oni Armaments in Onimusha Way of the Sword

    TL;DR

    • There are 7 Oni Armaments in Onimusha Way of the Sword — collecting all of them unlocks the Oni Armory trophy/achievement.
    • 2 are story rewards you cannot miss — the Oni Bow and the Wind-Whipper.
    • 5 sit in optional chests you have to find yourself across Kiyomizu-dera, the Underground Lab, Kyoto, Mount Oe, and Arashiyama.
    • None are permanently missable — free roam stays open until the final mission “The Clash At Rendaino.”
    • Oni Armaments run on Blue Souls and generate Purple Souls on hit, feeding your Oni Awakening gauge.
    • Save a manual file before the Point of No Return for easy cleanup.

Onimusha Way of the Sword All Oni Armaments are the supernatural weapons Musashi charges with Blue Souls to unleash powerful attacks in combat. There are 7 in total, and finding every one unlocks the Oni Armory trophy or achievement. Two of them come automatically through the story. The other five are sitting in chests spread across the game’s different areas — and they are easy to walk past if you do not know where to look. This guide covers every location so you can get them all in one clean run.

If you are still building out Musashi’s loadout, our guide to all 15 Charms locations in Onimusha Way of the Sword is a good companion read — charms and armaments work together to shape your whole combat style. How Oni Armaments Work

Oni Armaments are not standard weapons. They are supernatural tools powered by Musashi’s Oni Gauntlet. Here is the basic loop:

    • Absorb Blue Souls from fallen enemies to fill your Oni Power gauge.
    • Activate an Oni Armament to unleash its power and drain the gauge.
    • Hitting enemies with an active armament generates Purple Souls, which build your Oni Awakening gauge.
    • Once the Oni Power gauge is empty, wait for it to refill before using the armament again.

This means Oni Armaments are not something to spam. They are a resource to spend at the right moment — ideally to break an enemy’s stamina, close distance, deal burst damage, or trigger Oni Awakening faster. Each of the 7 armaments does something different, so picking the right one for a situation matters.

One quick practical tip: if you find a chest in any of these locations and the open prompt is not showing, look for a red barrier in front of it. One weapon strike clears it and the prompt comes back immediately.

Story Oni Armaments (Cannot Be Missed)

Oni Armament #2 – Oni Bow

    Location: Oni Refuge
How to get it: After the Oni Glyph drops you into the Oni Refuge, follow the main path forward. A chest sits directly on the route. Open it to collect the Oni Bow. This armament is required to shoot the gate blocking your progress, so the story forces you to pick it up. You cannot advance without it.

What it does: Fires ranged shots with unlimited ammunition. Also used to hit distant cores, locked mechanisms, and gate blocks throughout the game — so it has exploration utility beyond combat.

    Oni Armament #3 – Wind-Whipper

    Location: “The Oni’s Apprentice” mission
How to get it: During the mission “The Oni’s Apprentice,” you are walked through the Skills practice grounds and the Boss Rematch feature. Once that tutorial sequence ends, a chest appears automatically. Open it to get the Wind-Whipper along with a few Mild Restoratives. No exploration needed — just follow the mission and it is yours.

What it does: A twin-bladed naginata that whips swirling winds around Musashi when activated. Good for hitting multiple enemies in close range and building Purple Souls fast.

Optional Oni Armament Locations (Chest Pickups)

Oni Armament #1 – The Two Celestials

    Location: Kiyomizu-dera Temple
How to get it: This is the first optional armament available and you can pick it up early. Inside Kiyomizu-dera Temple, you will encounter a second Thread Genma holding the second Oni Gate shut. Destroy it. The treasure chest that was suspended in the threads drops to the ground once the Genma dies. Loot it to collect the Two Celestials.

To reach the area, squeeze through a gap in the cave wall nearby. When you approach the chest, check for a red barrier in front of it — hit it once to clear it, then open the chest.

What it does: Paired blades that pull Yellow Souls from enemies on every hit. A reliable, versatile armament that works well against most enemy types. Good all-rounder from early to late game.

    Oni Armament #4 – Earth-Shakers

Location: Underground Laboratory – Underground Level 4
How to get it: Head into the Underground Laboratory and descend to Underground Level 4. In this area you will come across a fan puzzle — solve it, then move into the next room. The chest containing the Earth-Shakers is waiting there.

What it does: Heavy hammers that drain enemy stamina on impact. Hold the activation for a stronger charged version. These are great for staggering bosses and tough enemies who are hard to interrupt with regular strikes. For help on combat mechanics and stagger, see our guide to mastering Issen, parry and deflect.

Oni Armament #5 – Firebird Flute

Location: Eastern Kyoto – south of the Gojo Street East Spirit Mirror
How to get it: Head south from the Gojo Street – East Spirit Mirror. The chest is at the spot where the Rift appeared during the main mission “Shadows Fall.” Look for the shrine structure in the area — the chest is right beside it as you walk toward the marker. It is very easy to find once you know you are looking in the right district.

What it does: Playing the flute summons flaming Firebirds that you can then launch forward at enemies. Good for ranged burst damage and clearing groups. A fun armament to use in wide open areas of Kyoto.

Oni Armament #6 – Flashing Void

Location: Mount Oe – Castle Courtyard
How to get it: Once you reach the Castle Courtyard area of Mount Oe, look for a narrow cave opening in the area. You need to slide through it to get inside. The chest with the Flashing Void is inside the cave. It is easy to run past this opening if you are not actively checking the walls, so take your time scanning the courtyard perimeter.

What it does: A lightning spear that deals the heaviest health damage of all 7 armaments. It also generates a large amount of Red Souls from anything it kills, which makes it genuinely useful while you are grinding for upgrade materials. For tips on getting the most out of Mount Oe, check our Shuten Doji and Mount Oe boss guide.

Oni Armament #7 – Still Water

Location: Arashiyama Swamp – Northeast corner of the map
How to get it: Travel to the Swamp area of Arashiyama and head to the northeast corner of the map. Among the ruined structures in this part of the swamp, you will find the chest sitting out in the open. This is usually the last armament players collect, and picking it up is often what fires the Oni Armory trophy.

What it does: A sword whose heavy strikes pull Purple Souls out of enemies. Purple Souls build your Oni Awakening gauge, so Still Water is a great tool for getting into Oni Awakening mode faster in longer fights.

Tips to Get All Oni Armaments Without Missing Any

    • Upgrade Oni Vision skills early. Buy Oni Vision: Treasures, Oni Vision: Treasures 2, and Oni Vision: Search Range before spending Oni Stones elsewhere. Hold L2 + R2 (or LT + RT) as you explore each area and your gauntlet will glow when you are near a chest.
    • Clear red barriers before trying to open chests. If a chest is not responding, look for a red barrier in front of it. One hit removes it and the open prompt comes back.
    • Do not cross the Point of No Return without a manual save. The final mission is called “The Clash At Rendaino.” Before you start it, make a manual save. All five optional chest locations stay available until this point. If you load a Continue save after finishing the game, you spawn back just before this mission with full access to every area.
    • Pick armaments up early — do not save them for cleanup. The Blue Soul and Purple Soul income from armaments adds up throughout a playthrough. Getting The Two Celestials at Kiyomizu-dera Temple early pays off more than picking it up last-minute before the final mission.
    • Do a sweep of all collectibles together. The 7 Oni Armaments, 15 Charms, 23 Genma Notes, all Lion Dogs, and Hozuki Pouches are all available in free roam. One cleanup pass before the final mission covers everything. See our full trophy and achievement guide for the full platinum roadmap.

What Each Oni Armament Is Best For

Once you have all 7, here is a quick rundown of when to use each one:

    • The Two Celestials — Best general-purpose pick. Good against everything. Use it when you are not sure which armament fits.
    • Oni Bow — Best for ranged situations, hitting distant targets, and opening gate mechanisms on the map.
    • Wind-Whipper — Best for grouped enemies and building Purple Souls quickly in chaotic fights.
    • Earth-Shakers — Best for stamina breaking and staggering tough enemies or bosses who resist normal interrupts.
    • Firebird Flute — Best for ranged burst damage and clearing Genma groups in wider areas.
    • Flashing Void — Best for single-target burst damage and Red Soul farming. High damage ceiling.
    • Still Water — Best when you want to build Oni Awakening gauge faster. Prioritise this in boss fights where Awakening windows matter.
