Out of Sight quest in Gothic 1 Remake is one of the key side quests you need to complete as part of Admission to the Old Camp. Thorus gives it to you, and the goal is simple — get rid of Mordrag, a New Camp merchant who has been operating near the Old Camp’s south gate. How you deal with him is up to you, and each option has different rewards. This guide covers everything from starting the quest to what to do with Mordrag’s Ring at the end.
- Get the quest by exhausting Thorus’s dialogue at the Old Camp castle entrance
- Mordrag is near the south gate, wearing a blue scarf
- You can escort him to the New Camp, scare him off, or kill him
- Escorting him is the best option — you get 200 XP, Mordrag’s Ring, and the New Camp added to your map
- Killing him in the Old Camp is the worst option — only 100 XP and no ring
- Completing the quest earns 250 XP and Thorus’s vote for Old Camp admission
- Mordrag’s Ring gives +5 Dexterity — you can keep it, give it to Lares, or sell it for 65 Ore Nuggets
How to Start Out of Sight

The quest comes from Thorus, the NPC who stands at the Old Camp castle entrance. He does not hand the quest over straight away. You need to work through a specific dialogue chain to unlock it.
Talk to Thorus and select these options in order:
- I want to work for Gomez.
- How about you test me? See if I got what it takes?
- All right, but there has to be something I can do for you.
- Whatever you need done, I can handle it.
- I’m ready for that job you mentioned.
Once you hit that final dialogue option, Thorus tells you about Mordrag — a New Camp merchant causing problems near the south exit. The Out of Sight quest is now registered in your log.

Where to Find Mordrag
Mordrag is near the south gate of the Old Camp. He is easy to recognise — he wears a blue scarf. He is there at all times, even in bad weather. When you get close for the first time, he will call out to you and the conversation starts automatically.
If you do not have a map yet and are struggling with navigation, here is how to get a map in Gothic 1 Remake.
How to Deal With Mordrag — All Three Options
You have three ways to handle Mordrag. Each one gives different XP and different outcomes.
Option 1: Escort Him to the New Camp (Best Choice)

This is the smartest option, especially for new players. In your conversation with Mordrag, tell him you have a problem, then ask him to take you to the New Camp. He agrees and walks you there.
During the escort, Mordrag fights every hostile creature you encounter on the road. You collect loot from their bodies and earn combat XP along the way. When you reach the New Camp entrance, Mordrag hands you his ring and tells you to speak with Lares.
What you get from this option:
- 200 XP from Mordrag upon arrival at the New Camp
- Mordrag’s Ring (+5 Dexterity)
- New Camp added to your map
- Access to the Admission to the New Camp questline
- Extra loot from enemies Mordrag kills on the road
This does not lock you into the New Camp. You can head straight back to the Old Camp after arriving. Visiting the New Camp just opens your options. If you plan to travel there anyway, our guide on how to reach the New Camp in Gothic 1 Remake covers the route.
Option 2: Kill Him

You can kill Mordrag, but timing matters. Do not kill him inside the Old Camp. Other people nearby may join the fight, and it puts you in serious trouble early on.
The better approach is to escort him toward the New Camp, let him fight the enemies on the road so his health drops, and then attack him mid-journey. Keep your distance when you engage — he uses both a mace and a bow, and his arrows can hit hard at close range.
Killing him after reaching the New Camp is also possible, though the guards there make it harder.
What you get from killing him:
- 200 XP (if killed after the New Camp escort) or just 100 XP (if killed in Old Camp)
- Mordrag’s Ring looted from his body
- Sting Mace and Rider’s Bow looted from his body
The extra loot is the only real reason to kill him. If you do not need those weapons, the escort route gives the same XP with far less risk.
Option 3: Scare Him Away

You can threaten Mordrag with the dialogue option “This camp is too small for the two of us.” He leaves but you do not get the ring and only earn 100 XP. This is the weakest outcome. There is no good reason to choose this over escorting him.
Return to Thorus and Claim Your Reward
Once Mordrag is dealt with, go back to Thorus at the castle entrance and report that the job is done. He gives you 250 XP and his vote for the Admission to the Old Camp main quest. You also gain access to Mordrag’s old residence near the south gate — you can use it as a place to sleep and store items. For more on resting, see our guide on how to sleep and pass time in Gothic 1 Remake.

What to Do With Mordrag’s Ring
Once you have the ring, you have three choices.
Give It to Lares at the New Camp
Lares is inside the New Camp’s main cave, to the left past the bandits at the entrance. Giving him the ring advances the Admission to the New Camp questline and unlocks the A Piece of the Pie quest. This is the best option if you want to keep both faction paths open.
Keep It and Equip It
Mordrag’s Ring gives +5 Dexterity when worn. That is useful for ranged builds or early characters who need a stat boost. If you are not pursuing the New Camp storyline, just keep it equipped.
Sell It
If you need ore, merchants will buy the ring. Fisk in the Old Camp pays 65 Ore Nuggets for it. You can check other merchants too in case of better prices. If ore is your main concern, our guide on how to get ore nuggets fast in Gothic 1 Remake has more options.
Watch Out for Fisk After This Quest
Completing Out of Sight has one side effect that catches players off guard. Fisk, who appears in the Whistler’s Sword quest, is unhappy that Mordrag is gone. The next time you speak to him, he threatens to vote against you for Old Camp admission.
You can defuse this by telling him you can help fix the problem. That starts the A New Fence for Fisk quest. If you do not want to deal with that quest, simply avoid talking to Fisk for now. His negative vote only becomes an issue if he actually casts it — not approaching him prevents that from happening before you complete Diego’s main quest.
Out of Sight XP Summary
- Escort Mordrag to New Camp: 200 XP from Mordrag + 250 XP from Thorus = 450 XP total
- Kill Mordrag after escort: 200 XP from Mordrag + 200 XP kill bonus + 250 XP from Thorus = 650 XP total
- Kill Mordrag in Old Camp: 100 XP + 250 XP from Thorus = 350 XP total
- Scare him away: 100 XP + 250 XP from Thorus = 350 XP total
Escorting him and then deciding whether to kill him afterward is clearly the most efficient approach.
