TL;DR
- There are 17 medicines in Phantom Blade Zero — one starting item and 16 more found across the game’s regions.
- You can equip two medicines at the same time and switch freely in the inventory menu.
- Medicines are upgraded by speaking to Xie Xiaorong at the Green Serpent House in Pangzhen using Healer’s Memory materials.
- Each medicine has a unique effect — healing, Sha-Chi generation, damage buffs, status cleansing, and more.
- Some medicines need a specific Phantom Edge, quest completion, or boss kill before they become available.
Medicines in Phantom Blade Zero are not all the same. Some just heal you. Others cut damage taken, boost your Phantom Edges, generate Sha-Chi over time, or make you briefly untouchable. Picking the right two for your medicine slots can make a real difference in tough fights.
The problem is they are spread across every region of the game — some in chests, some behind quests, some locked until you have a specific Phantom Edge. This guide covers all 17, where to find each one, and what they do.
How Medicines Work in Phantom Blade Zero
Soul has two medicine slots at any time. The Healing Gourd occupies one slot by default and is always available. The second slot is for a second medicine of your choice. You can swap medicines through the character inventory menu whenever you want.
Medicines restock when you rest at a Bell. The Healing Gourd refills completely. Other medicines also refill their charges at Bells, so you always go into the next fight stocked up.
To upgrade any medicine, find Xie Xiaorong at the Green Serpent House on the west side of Pangzhen. She handles all medicine upgrades. The materials you need are called Healer’s Memories — Apprentice, Skilled, and Master — and you can buy them from Quick Hand Zhang at his hideouts. Upgrading increases charge count and strengthens the medicine’s effect at higher levels.
All Medicines in Phantom Blade Zero — Complete List by Region
Weeping Creek Valley Medicines
1. Healing Gourd
Effect (Lv 1): Restores 40% HP.
How to Get: Available from the very start of the game. This is your default medicine and it is already in your first slot when the game begins.
Notes: Simple and reliable. Upgrades increase the HP it restores. Always keep it in one slot — it is the most versatile option in the game.
2. Focus Pill

Effect (Lv 1): Reduces Sha-Chi consumption by 30% for 15 seconds and gradually restores 30% HP over the same duration.
How to Get: Found in a chest in Weeping Creek Valley near the Axemaster’s Holding Cell Bell. Head outside from that bell and turn left — the chest is there.
Notes: Good if you are burning through Sha-Chi too fast. Pairs well with aggressive Phantom Edge builds.
3. Vessel Restorative

Effect (Lv 1): Restores 70% HP and increases natural Sha-Chi recovery speed by 50% for 5 seconds.
How to Get: Found in a chest in Weeping Creek Valley, nearest bell is the Valley Sha-Chi Tower Base Bell. Reach the Sha-Chi Tower furnace section — the Deep in the Valley quest is connected to this area.
Notes: Strong burst heal plus a short Sha-Chi boost. Only has 1 use per rest at all levels — but upgrades eventually turn it into a full HP restore, making that single use count.
Crimson Forest Medicines
4. Simmering Brew

Effect (Lv 1): Continuously generates Sha-Chi for 15 seconds and gradually restores 30% HP over the same duration.
How to Get: Found as a world pickup in the Crimson Forest near the Pangzhen Bridge Overlook Bell.
Notes: Not a panic heal — think of it as a resource generation tool. Great for longer fights where you need a steady Sha-Chi supply to keep using Phantom Edges. At max level, also increases Sha-Chi recovery speed by 100%.
5. Kuye Dew

Effect (Lv 1): Reduces damage taken by 20% for 15 seconds and restores 40% HP over 10 seconds.
How to Get: Found in the Crimson Forest. Use the Crimson Forest Tunnel Crank in a cavern near the Outlaw Trap Bell to access the area where this medicine is located. Check our Crimson Forest Tunnel Crank guide if you need help finding it.
Notes: One of the best defensive medicines. It heals AND reduces damage at the same time. Extremely useful when you know a boss is about to punish you.
6. Miracle Remedy

Effect (Lv 1): Restores 30% HP, with an additional 30% bonus heal when your HP is below 35%.
How to Get: Found in a chest on the 6th Floor of the Crimson Forest Sha-Chi Tower.
Notes: The bonus heal only triggers when you are close to death, which makes it a high-risk, high-reward option for players who like to push limits in a fight.
Village of Lu Medicines
7. Spirit-Returning Broth

Effect (Lv 1): Increases Guard Break by 10% for 30 seconds and restores 20% HP.
How to Get: Found as a world pickup in the southwestern part of the Village of Lu, just past the Well of the Three Puppets.
Notes: Light on healing but useful if your build relies on breaking enemy stances quickly. Good pairing with heavy weapons or Phantom Edges that deal Guard Break damage.
8. Forbidden Concoction

Effect (Lv 1): Increases Phantom Edge damage by 10% for 15 seconds and restores 40% HP.
How to Get: Found in the Village of Lu. Enter the house near the Black Serpent House Bell and climb the ladder inside to find it on the upper floor.
Notes: A strong option for Phantom Edge-focused builds. The heal is decent, and the damage boost stacks well with offensive accessories. See our Phantom Blade Zero all Phantom Edges list to pick the right edges to use alongside it.
Pangzhen Medicines
9. Everflow

Effect (Lv 1): Restores 30% HP. When all charges are used, defeating an enemy restores 1 charge.
How to Get: Defeat Xie Qiudong, the Divine Healer boss in Pangzhen.
Notes: Everflow’s self-replenishing mechanic is unique. If you run out mid-fight, you can earn a charge back by killing an enemy. At max level, restoring a charge also increases Sha-Chi Combo damage by 25% for 5 seconds — a strong bonus for aggressive players.
10. Green Serpent Brew

Effect (Lv 1): Removes all status effects, adds status resistance for a duration, and gradually restores 20% HP over 15 seconds.
How to Get: Speak to Xie Xiaorong (the Apprentice Healer NPC) at the Green Serpent House on the west side of Pangzhen. She gives it to you directly. This is also the same NPC who upgrades your medicines.
Notes: The go-to medicine for regions and bosses that apply heavy status effects — poison, bleed, fire, paralysis. Essential in areas like Meigu Lake where status damage is common.
11. Merciful Dew

Effect (Lv 1): Restores 60% HP over 10 seconds.
How to Get: Complete the A Mother’s Heart quest in Pangzhen, which involves finding two Memory Flowers. It is given as a quest reward near the Pond of Fading Song Bell.
Notes: Slower healing than the Healing Gourd but ends up restoring more total HP at higher levels. At max level, it also significantly boosts natural Sha-Chi recovery. Good for players who have time to heal during an opening.
Mandate Encampment Medicines
12. Phantom Remedy

Effect (Lv 1): Restores roughly 60% HP and Sha-Chi over 6 seconds. Taking a hit interrupts the recovery.
How to Get: First, defeat Wan Jun the Coppermaul in Mandate Encampment to unlock the Bashpole Phantom Edge. Then use the Bashpole to smash through floorboards near the Battlefield Ruins Bell — the medicine is in a chest below. See our Four Fierce Axes quest walkthrough if you need help in this area.
Notes: One of the strongest healing medicines in the game — it restores both HP and Sha-Chi at the same time. The downside is that getting hit cancels the effect, so use it only when you have created space from enemies.
13. Lament Draught

Effect (Lv 1): Increases damage dealt by a set percentage for a duration and restores some HP.
How to Get: Found in a chest in the Training Grounds Depths area of Mandate Encampment — the area accessed after defeating Yubi, No. 34 Twisted Puppet. Head up the stairs following that fight to find the chest.
Notes: An offensive support medicine. Good if you want a temporary damage increase alongside a small heal — useful in long boss fights where every bit of extra damage helps.
Meigu Lake Medicines
14. Longevity Tonic

Effect (Lv 1): Restores all HP.
How to Get: Complete the Kin Against Kin quest in Meigu Lake by collecting Memory Flowers around the Meigu Village East Dock Bell. The tonic is the quest reward.
Notes: A full heal in a single use. Only 2 charges at base level. At higher levels, it also grants a damage boost when your HP is full after using it. One of the most powerful emergency options in the game.
15. Phantom Brew

Effect (Lv 1): Restores 50% HP and grants Intangible (invulnerability) for 1 second.
How to Get: Collect all four Acolyte Masks in Meigu Lake and bring them to the Four Guardians’ Mirror Bell on the western edge of the lake. This opens a Discordance realm. The Phantom Brew is in a chest at the end of it.
Notes: The Intangible window makes this medicine useful as a defensive tool, not just a heal. At max level, it restores 70% HP and gives 3 seconds of Intangible — meaning you can use it during a combo and avoid getting hit while healing. See our Frozen Mirror Meigu Lake guide for help navigating this area.
16. Sha-Chi Blood Catalyst

Effect (Lv 1): Increases Heavy Attack Sha-Chi Combo damage by 20% for 15 seconds and restores 20% HP. Sets you on fire.
How to Get: Found as a world pickup in Meigu Lake near Zhang’s Hideout (Meigu Village). Complete Quick Hand’s Request in Meigu Lake to unlock access to this area. See our Quick Hand’s Request guide for help.
Notes: High risk, high reward. The self-ignite deals damage to you, but the Sha-Chi Combo boost is substantial — good for players who lean heavily on heavy attack combos. Pair it with fire-resistance accessories to soften the downside.
Mirage Estate Medicine
17. Ritual Wine
Effect (Lv 1): Increases Burn, Paralysis, Freeze, and Bleed buildup rate by 50% for 15 seconds and restores 20% HP.
How to Get: Found as a world pickup in Mirage Estate, near the Training Grounds Bell.
Notes: Niche but powerful for status-focused builds. If you are running a weapon or set of accessories that applies bleed or burn, Ritual Wine turns you into a status-stacking machine for a short window. Less useful for players who rely purely on raw damage.
How to Upgrade Medicines in Phantom Blade Zero
Every medicine can be upgraded multiple times, improving both its effect and the number of charges it carries. To upgrade, speak to Xie Xiaorong at the Green Serpent House in Pangzhen (the same NPC who gives you the Green Serpent Brew).
The materials you need are called Healer’s Memories and they come in three tiers:
- Apprentice Healer’s Memory — upgrades medicine to Level 2. Costs 7,440 Remnant Dust from Quick Hand Zhang (Pangzhen and Meigu Lake hideouts).
- Skilled Healer’s Memory — upgrades medicine from Level 2 to Level 4. Costs 9,920 Remnant Dust from Quick Hand Zhang (Pangzhen, Meigu Lake, and Mirage Estate hideouts).
- Master Healer’s Memory — upgrades medicine from Level 4 to max level. Costs 16,000 Remnant Dust from Quick Hand Zhang (Meigu Lake and Mirage Estate hideouts).
Once you have unlocked upgrading through Xie Xiaorong, you can also upgrade at any Bell through the Upgrade Equipment menu — just like weapons and accessories. Discovering more Quick Hand Zhang hideouts increases how many Healer’s Memories are available to buy. Check our all Human-Faced Banyan Tree locations guide to cover all side content while exploring each region.
Which Medicines Should You Upgrade First?
Not all medicines are worth upgrading early. Here is a simple way to think about it:
- Upgrade the Healing Gourd first. It is your bread and butter. More HP restored per use means more margin for error in every fight.
- Then upgrade whichever secondary medicine fits your playstyle. If you play aggressively, Everflow or Forbidden Concoction. If you play cautiously, Kuye Dew or Phantom Remedy. If you rely on Phantom Edges, Forbidden Concoction.
- Vessel Restorative is worth investing in later. It only has 1 use forever, but at max level it fully restores all HP — making that single use very powerful in a boss fight.
- Do not spread upgrades thin. Healer’s Memory materials are not unlimited early on. Focus on the two medicines you actually use rather than spreading a level across five different ones.
You can also unlock additional medicine charges through the ability training menu. The skill Healing Art costs 5,000 Remnant Dust and adds one use to your medicine count. The skill Blood Remedy gives a chance to restore charges when you defeat enemies.
