The 6 North Brae Lamenting Poem puzzle is the second house puzzle in Part 4: Clara Woods of Silent Hill Townfall. It sits between the Floppy Disk puzzle at 5 South Brae and the tape puzzle at 5 Upper Brae. Of the three house puzzles in this section, it is the most straightforward — but only if you know what to look for.

The puzzle is an observation challenge. There is no computer, no floppy disks, and no time-state switching. All you need to do is read a poem, look at the art hanging on the walls around the house, count specific objects in those images, and enter the three-digit count as the code on a locked black box.

The reward is the Barcode (North Brae) – Locker 204. That barcode, when scanned at the CEG Employee Lockers building, gives you the PIN for Locker 204. Inside Locker 204 is one of the three Mechanical Parts needed to build the Constructed Mechanical Device and open the Strange Gate on Atlas Way.

Prerequisites – What You Need Before Entering 6 North Brae

You cannot reach 6 North Brae without the Boltcutters. The upper residential area of Clara Woods Estate is sealed behind a chained gate. The Boltcutters cut through it.

To get the Boltcutters, you must first complete the Floppy Disk puzzle at 5 South Brae. That puzzle gives you the Barcode (South Brae), which reveals the Locker 17 PIN as 575. Open Locker 17 to collect the Boltcutters and the first Mechanical Part.

Once you have the Boltcutters, go to the northeast corner of the Clara Woods Estate where the CEG Lockers building is. Head upstairs and cut the chain on the gate. This opens the path to the upper level where 6 North Brae and the other houses are located.

Where Is 6 North Brae and How to Get Inside

After cutting through the chained gate, follow the upper level to the western side of the North Brae district. The house at 6 North Brae is on the left side of the road as you head west.

The front door is locked. Do not waste time trying to open it. Walk around the building to the rear and use the back door to enter. The back door is unlocked and leads you straight inside.

Where to Find the Lamenting Poem

Once inside 6 North Brae, head upstairs. Go past the first bedroom and continue down the hallway to the second bedroom. Inside, on a chair, you will find the note called Clue: Lamenting Poem. Pick it up and read it.

The poem highlights three words in red: boats, arches, and children. These are the three things you need to count in the artwork displayed around the house. The number of each object, read in the order the poem lists them, gives you the code for the black box.

There is also a locked black box on the desk in this same bedroom. That is what you are trying to open. Do not enter a code yet — go count the paintings first.

Stay upstairs and look at the painting hanging in the bedroom. It depicts a seascape with multiple vessels. Count the boats painted in the image. There are 7 boats. That gives you the first digit of the code: 7.

Also upstairs in the bedroom, look for a drawing or sketch on the wall. It shows an architectural scene with arched structures. Count the arches visible in the drawing. There are 3 arches. That gives you the second digit: 3.

Children – Living Room Photos (Third digit: 6)

Go back downstairs to the living room. Look at the framed photos on the wall. The images show children. Count all the children visible across the photos. There are 6 children. That gives you the third digit: 6.

6 North Brae Safe Code – The Answer Is 736

Read the counts together in the order the Lamenting Poem lists them — boats first, then arches, then children — and you get the code: 736.

This is the combination for the locked black box on the desk in the upstairs bedroom. Go back up there and interact with the box. Use the tumbler dials to set each digit in turn — 7, then 3, then 6 — and press Confirm. The box opens.

Important note: A small number of players have reported a different count in their playthrough — the code 847 has come up. If 736 does not work for you, go back and recount each painting yourself. How to Open Locker 204 – Code Is 971

Leave 6 North Brae and return to the ground level. Go back to the CEG Employee Lockers building on Prosperity Way. Walk up to the barcode scanner on the front desk and use the Barcode (North Brae) on it. The machine will display the PIN for Locker 204: 971.

Find Locker 204 in the locker aisles. Enter 971 on the dial. The locker opens and inside is a Mechanical Part — the second of the three you need for the Atlas Gate. Take it.

After collecting the Mechanical Part from Locker 204, you still need one more. The third Mechanical Part comes from Locker 94, which requires completing the tape puzzle at 5 Upper Brae. That is the most complex house puzzle in the Clara Woods section — it involves four cassette tapes that shift the house between different time states, an Ammonite Disk, and a safe code of 129.

Once you have all three Mechanical Parts from Lockers 17, 204, and 94, open your inventory and combine them. Join the two disc-shaped pieces together first, then attach the cylindrical piece. This builds the Constructed Mechanical Device. Take it to the Strange Gate at the end of Atlas Way, insert it into the pipe structure on the gate, and it opens. Common Problems and Fixes

The Black Box Is Not Accepting Code 736

Make sure you have picked up the Lamenting Poem from the chair in the second bedroom first. The game requires you to collect the clue before the black box becomes interactive. If you go straight for the box without reading the poem, it will not respond. Pick up the poem, then try the code.

Also double-check your digit order. The poem lists boats first, then arches, then children. The code is entered in that exact sequence — 7, then 3, then 6. Entering them in any other order will not work.

If 736 still fails after all of this, count the paintings again in your own playthrough. A small number of runs have reported different counts, so your code may not be 736. Always count the paintings yourself rather than relying on the guide alone.

Cannot Find the Back Door

The back door is at the rear of the 6 North Brae building. Walk completely around the outside of the house from the front — go left or right along the side of the building until you reach the back. The door there is unlocked and will open when you interact with it. The front door cannot be opened at any point, so do not keep trying it.

Cannot Reach 6 North Brae at All

Cannot Find One of the Paintings

All three images are inside the house. The boats painting and arches drawing are both upstairs in the bedroom — check both walls carefully. The children photos are downstairs in the living room on the wall. If you are struggling to find one of them, do a full sweep of both floors before giving up. None of the images are hidden — they are all hanging on the walls in plain sight.

The Barcode Scanner Is Not Recognising the Barcode

Make sure you are using the Barcode (North Brae) specifically at the scanner. You may have multiple barcodes in your inventory at this stage. Select the North Brae one from your inventory when interacting with the scanner. If the right item is selected and the scanner still will not work, try re-entering the house and picking up the barcode again — though this should not normally be necessary.
