Spoiler warning: This guide reveals puzzle solutions, Richard’s employee information, and the transition into Part 5.
TL;DR – Quick Answers
- CEG Security Room code: 4895
- Richard’s box number: Box 36
- Box 36 combination: 486
- Richard’s Employee ID: 00007820518 (leading zeros matter)
- Use the printed Access Card on the elevator to reach the 10th floor
Where Does the CEG Elevator Puzzle Take Place?
This puzzle happens inside CEG HQ on the Ground Floor. You reach it in Part 4 — Clara Woods, Chapter 11, after Simon opens the route to the CEG Tower through the earlier Mechanical Parts and Atlas Way sequence.
The goal is simple on paper: get an Access Card so Simon can use the elevator and reach the 10th floor. The tricky part is that the solution is split across several rooms and documents. Nothing is handed to you in one place.
If you need help with what came before this section, our Silent Hill Townfall Clara Woods guide covers the full chapter.
The Complete Puzzle Chain at a Glance
Before getting into each step, here is the full sequence so you can see how everything connects:
Maintenance Room → Security code 4895 → second Case Codes fragment → Box 36 → code 486 → Richard’s Employee File Cover Note → Employee ID 00007820518 → print Access Card → elevator → 10th floor
That is the whole thing. Every step below fills in the details.
Step 1 – Find the Maintenance Room
After entering CEG HQ, head to the Maintenance Room. Two things are waiting for you here.
- A torn Grid of Codes / Case Codes document in the bin area. This is the first half of the box code clue.
- A whiteboard showing the number 4 with a series of arrows drawn on it.
Do not skip the whiteboard. It looks simple but it solves the Security Room lock.

Step 2 – Solve the Whiteboard and Open the Security Room
The whiteboard is not telling you the code starts with 4. It is giving you a path to trace across the keypad.
Start at 4 and follow the arrows. The path leads you to:
4 → 8 → 9 → 5
So the CEG Security Room code is 4895.
You may find one or two older guides online listing 4891. That appears to be a typo. Every major current walkthrough confirms 4895, and it matches the whiteboard arrow logic. For a full breakdown of this lock, see our dedicated Silent Hill Townfall CEG Security Room code guide.
Go to the Security Room near the front reception area and enter 4895. The door opens.
Step 3 – Collect the Second Grid of Codes Fragment
Inside the Security Room, search the bin next to the desk. You will find the second half of the Grid of Codes.
Open your inventory and combine both torn pieces. This creates the Complete Grid of Codes, which you will need to crack Richard’s box in the next section.
The Security Room also has optional items worth noting — a phone save point, some CEG emails, a CRTV signal around 61, and other documents. None of these are required for the elevator chain, but grab what you need before moving on.
Step 4 – Find Richard’s Box Number
Head to the conference or auditorium area. The room is full of rows of chairs with numbered black storage boxes and a podium at the front on the stage.
Examine the document on the podium. It is called Box IDs and Names.
This document tells you that Richard’s box is Box 36. That is the only box you need to open.
Do not try random boxes. Current walkthroughs warn clearly that opening the wrong box can damage Simon’s health. The game is designed to be solved by reading the clue, not by guessing.

Step 5 – Open Box 36 with Code 486
Now find Box 36 in the conference room. Different guides describe the physical position slightly differently — some say third row from the front sixth seat, others say third row third box from the right. The descriptions vary a little depending on who wrote the guide.
The safest approach: look for the number 36 on the box itself rather than counting seats. The number is the reliable identifier.
Use the Complete Grid of Codes to find the combination for Box 36. The correct code is:
4 → 8 → 6
Enter 486 and the box opens. Inside you will find the Employee File Cover Note. This is the item that connects Richard’s physical box to the CEG access card system.
Step 6 – Get Richard’s Employee ID
Read the Employee File Cover Note from Box 36. It contains Richard’s Employee ID, which you need to generate an Access Card.
Richard’s Employee ID is:
00007820518
The leading zeros are required. The system will not accept shortened versions like 7820518 or 07820518. You must enter the full number exactly as it appears.

Step 7 – Print the Access Card
Go back to the Security Room. Find the computer connected to the Employee Database and Access Card printing setup.
Before you start, check that the card reader or printer has power. Several guides specifically point out that you need to see a green indicator light on the reader before it will work.
The general sequence at the computer is:
- Search for User
- Enter employee ID: 00007820518
- Generate Access Card
- Confirm and collect the printed card
If you are using a controller, some guides describe the final confirm as pressing Up on the D-pad. Others describe selecting on-screen options. Either way, the result is the same — a Printed Access Card appears.
Step 8 – Use the Access Card on the CEG Elevator
Take the Printed Access Card to the elevator. Use it at the elevator’s card reader.
The card unlocks the 10th floor. Ride the elevator up and the game transitions into Part 5 — Richard.
The elevator itself is not a separate code puzzle. It is just the final lock in this longer chain. The Access Card is what opens it.

What Each Clue Is Actually For
This puzzle is easier to follow once you understand what each item does. Here is a quick breakdown:
- Whiteboard (Maintenance Room) – Arrow path starting at 4. Opens the Security Room. Answer: 4895.
- Grid of Codes Part 1 (Maintenance Room) – First half of the box combination clue.
- Grid of Codes Part 2 (Security Room bin) – Second half. Combine both pieces.
- Box IDs and Names (Podium) – Tells you Richard’s box is number 36.
- Complete Grid of Codes – Gives you the combination for Box 36. Answer: 486.
- Employee File Cover Note (Box 36) – Gives you Richard’s employee ID: 00007820518.
- Employee Database Computer (Security Room) – Uses the ID to generate the Access Card.
- Printed Access Card – Unlocks the elevator to the 10th floor.
Why This Puzzle Feels Confusing
The CEG sequence is a good example of how Townfall designs its puzzles. The game deliberately spreads information across multiple rooms and documents. There is no single moment where everything is handed to you.
The relationships you have to track are:
- Arrow clue → keypad code
- Name → box number
- Box number → code grid
- Employee file → employee ID
- Employee ID → access card
- Access card → elevator
None of the individual steps are especially hard. The difficulty is keeping track of which clue connects to which lock. That is the actual puzzle.
Is the CEG Elevator Puzzle the Same as the CEG Generator Puzzle?
No. These are two different sequences in different parts of the game. It is worth knowing the difference so you do not mix up guides.
Part 4 – Simon and Clara (This Guide)
This is the puzzle covered above. Simon uses the printed Access Card from Richard’s employee file to unlock the elevator and reach the 10th floor.
Part 5 – Richard (Separate Puzzle)
Later in the game, playing as Richard, there is a separate generator puzzle outside the CEG building. That one involves obtaining a Generator Key, setting levers in the correct positions, and using the key at the generator panel to restore power. Only then can Richard use the elevator to enter the building.
If you are working through Part 5, that is a completely different guide from this one.
