Every mutator explained — costs, tier list, best combos, troll warnings and how to earn the Mutated badge.
Mutators are server-wide power-ups in Tower of Hell that affect every player simultaneously — not just you. Anyone in the server can buy a mutator from Pixy’s Shop, and its effects instantly apply to all players for the rest of that round.
This is the key difference from Gears, which only affect the player who bought them. Mutators are a double-edged sword — a helpful mutator benefits everyone, but a troll mutator makes life harder for the entire server too.
There are currently 12 mutators active in the game. Some cost coins (earnable for free), some cost Robux, and some are available with coins only if you have an active Membership subscription. All mutators expire at the end of the round — you must repurchase every round.
Mutators affect the entire server. Think carefully before buying a mutator that could harm other players. Troll mutators like Bunny Hop and Foggy are widely considered griefing in competitive runs.
Ranked by actual utility for completing towers — not just raw effect strength. A mutator is only as good as how reliably it helps you reach the top.
S-Tier: Invincibility negates kill parts with no downside at all. Checkpoints add a safety net every second section. Double Jump (Robux/Membership) gives everyone a mid-air second jump — massive for hard sections. A-Tier: Extra Time is cheapest meaningful utility at 50 coins. Low Gravity is powerful but can make headhitter sections impossible. D-Tier: Foggy, Invisibility and Bunny Hop impair gameplay for the whole server with no real benefit to climbing — these are the community’s most disliked mutators.
Every currently active mutator in Tower of Hell — what it does, who benefits, and what you need to watch out for. Ordered from most useful to least.
Makes every player on the server completely immune to kill parts for the entire round. Nothing kills you — not lasers, not spinning parts, not lava. You can walk straight through obstacles that would normally send you back to the bottom.
Why it’s S-Tier: Zero downsides. The only mutator in the game with absolutely no negative side effects. Expensive at 500 coins but the most powerful climbing aid available. When someone buys Invincibility, the entire server usually cheers. Often used alongside Extra Time for a full safety run.
Important: Often confused with Invisibility (which makes players invisible). They are completely different. Invincibility = can’t die. Invisibility = can’t see players.
Adds a checkpoint at the end of every second section. When a player with the checkpoint mutator active falls, they respawn at their most recent checkpoint instead of the bottom. This is the closest Tower of Hell comes to having the checkpoints the core game intentionally removes.
Why it’s S-Tier: Completely changes the game for players who consistently fall on difficult sections. Lets beginners attempt harder towers they’d otherwise give up on. Also ideal for practicing specific sections without restarting from scratch each time.
Note: Requires Robux or an active Membership. Cannot be purchased with regular coins alone.
Grants every player a second jump while in mid-air. Activate it by pressing the jump button again after your initial jump. Combined with a Gravity Coil and the Double Jump Skill Tree upgrade, this creates a triple jump — one of the most powerful movement combinations in the game.
Why it’s S-Tier: Extra mid-air jumps directly reduce falls on every section type. No downsides. The triple jump combo is game-changing for experienced players and extremely helpful for beginners on tall gaps.
Adds 2 full minutes to the server’s round timer for everyone. Previously only gave 1 minute and cost 90 coins — now it’s the cheapest meaningful mutator at 50 coins with twice the time benefit.
Why it’s A-Tier: Best value mutator in the game. 50 coins for 2 more minutes affects every player positively with zero downside. Especially useful on towers where the server is close to running out of time. Pair with Invincibility for a complete “easy mode” run.
Reduces global gravity for all players by 25%, allowing everyone to jump higher and float longer. One of the most versatile movement mutators available for coins alone.
Why it’s A-Tier: Higher jumps help with virtually every section type. The 25% gravity reduction is substantial and immediately noticeable. Great for sections with tall vertical gaps.
Watch out: Low Gravity makes headhitter sections significantly harder — you float too high and hit the ceiling kill parts. Some specific sections become very difficult or even impossible with Low Gravity active (see Danger Combinations). Also confirmed to break certain moving platform sections during a past bug — now patched.
Doubles the coin reward for every player on the server for that round. A Normal Tower normally gives up to 100 coins — with Double Coins, everyone earns up to 200. Pro Tower: up to 500 per completion instead of 250.
Coin Stacking Rule: If Double Coins mutator is active AND you own the Double Coins gamepass, you earn 300% of the normal reward (not 400%). So a Normal Tower gives 300 coins instead of the 400 you might expect from true multiplication.
Increases the movement speed of every player on the server by 25%. You run faster, cover platforms quicker, and can reach the top of a tower with less time elapsed.
Why it’s C-Tier: Most sections in Tower of Hell require precision, not speed. Moving 25% faster makes narrow paths, conveyor timing, and laser sections significantly harder. Often bought by players who then immediately regret it when they overshoot a narrow platform. Good on simple wide-open towers, risky on complex ones.
Inverts all colors in the game for every player — red becomes cyan, blue becomes yellow, black becomes white. Brightness values are not reversed, only the hues. Previously cost 250 coins before being reduced to 150.
Why it’s C-Tier: Purely cosmetic — no gameplay impact. Some players claim inverted colors make kill parts easier to see. The community is split on whether this is useful or just a visual gimmick. Required for the Mutated badge.
Adds one additional section to the bottom of the current tower for everyone. The added section counts as section “0” and players must complete it before accessing the regular tower sections. Importantly, no coins are awarded for clearing the added Lengthen section.
Why it’s C-Tier: Makes the tower harder with no guaranteed coin benefit from the extra section. Sometimes bought by players wanting more challenge or to farm XP from a longer tower — but the added difficulty is purely negative for most players. Required for the Mutated badge.
Adds dense fog to the tower for everyone on the server, severely limiting visibility of obstacles, platforms and the path ahead. The fog was updated at some point from white to a colorful variant.
Why it’s D-Tier: Actively hurts gameplay. No upside whatsoever — purely makes the tower harder to see and navigate. Widely considered a griefing tool. If someone buys Foggy without warning, most players immediately change servers. Required for the Mutated badge which is the only reason many players ever buy it.
Makes all players on the server visually transparent — turning them into ghosts. Player effects, trails, and status indicators are also hidden. There is a workaround: switching to first-person view and back to third-person makes your own effects visible again.
Why it’s D-Tier: No gameplay benefit. Having players turn invisible is confusing and irritating for multiplayer coordination. Often used as a joke or troll. The community consensus is this mutator has no serious use case. Not to be confused with Invincibility (can’t die) — these two are frequently mixed up.
Forces all players on the server to continuously jump — automatically and without stopping. The only exception is while climbing a ladder or truss, where the jumping effect is suppressed. Otherwise, your character bounces non-stop.
Why it’s D-Tier: Pure griefing tool. Continuous jumping makes every precision section nearly impossible. Platforms like “Don’t Jump” sections become uncompletable unless Invincibility is also active. The community considers Bunny Hop to be the single most disruptive mutator in the game. If activated, the best advice is to change server. Has been removed and re-added multiple times in the game’s history.
All 12 mutators with exact costs. Robux values may vary slightly by region due to Roblox’s regional pricing system (introduced mid-2025).

Membership is a subscription that allows Robux-priced mutators to be purchased with coins instead. Prices above are the membership coin equivalents. Without membership, those mutators require actual Robux. Roblox regional pricing (added mid-2025) means Robux costs may vary slightly depending on your location.
The most effective mutator combinations used by the Tower of Hell community — for easy runs, coin farming and speedrunning.
The ultimate “just finish the tower” setup. Invincibility removes all kill-part deaths. Extra Time gives 2 more minutes. Double Jump gives everyone a second mid-air jump. Together these three mutators make completing almost any tower straightforward regardless of skill level. Total cost: 550 coins + 35 Robux (or 850 coins with Membership).
Combining the Double Jump mutator with a Gravity Coil gear AND the Double Jump Skill Tree upgrade creates a triple jump. Three jumps in the air with reduced gravity is the most movement-dominant setup in the game. Gap that previously required perfect timing become trivial.
Double Coins mutator + Double Coins gamepass gives 300% of normal coins (not 400% due to capping). On a Pro Tower that’s 750 coins per completion. Add Invincibility and Extra Time to maximize your completion rate per hour for peak coin farming efficiency.
Low Gravity mutator combined with a Fusion Coil gear gives maximum movement speed and jump height simultaneously. Best for Pro Tower completion speedruns on straightforward towers. Only viable if the current tower has no headhitter sections — check the sections before committing to this combination.
Checkpoints every second section + Extra Time is the ideal setup for learning new sections without frustration. Fall at section 5? Respawn there. Running out of time? The 2 extra minutes extend your practice window. Perfect for players trying to improve on specific sections they keep failing.
The only situation where High Speed becomes useful — combine it with Invincibility so you don’t die from the precision mistakes that high speed causes. You run fast through kill-part sections without dying. Expensive at 600 coins total but delivers the fastest possible tower completion time with safety guaranteed.
Some mutators actively make specific section types dangerous or nearly impossible. This is unique content not covered by any competing guide — know these before you buy.
Low Gravity’s 25% gravity reduction causes players to jump higher than the ceiling on headhitter sections — hitting the invisible kill part above and dying instantly. This makes headhitter-heavy towers significantly more dangerous with Low Gravity active. Sections like Close Shave, Headache, and Crowded are notorious examples. If the tower has multiple headhitter sections, skip Low Gravity.
Continuous forced jumping makes every precision section in the game harder. “Don’t Jump” type sections become literally impossible without Invincibility. Narrow paths, conveyors, and timing-based obstacles all become nightmares. If someone activates Bunny Hop on your server, strongly consider changing servers.
The 25% speed increase causes players to overshoot narrow platforms and get carried off conveyors too quickly before being able to correct. Laser timing also becomes harder — you pass through danger zones faster, reducing reaction time. The Blender and Aqua Blades sections are confirmed on the Mutator Incompatibility List as especially dangerous with speed modifiers.
The good news: Invincibility makes most mutator-section incompatibilities irrelevant since you can’t die. If you’re unsure whether a mutator will make a section impossible, pairing it with Invincibility is always the safe play. The only sections that truly become impossible are those where the physics engine breaks (not the kill parts) — which are rare.
The Mutated badge is earned by activating all coin-purchasable mutators in a single round. It’s one of the most social and community-driven badges in the game.
Buy and have active simultaneously: Foggy, Invincibility, High Speed, Low Gravity, Negative (Color Inversion), Lengthen, and Extra Time. You do not need the Robux/Membership mutators (Checkpoints, Double Jump, Invisibility, Bunny Hop, Double Coins). All seven coin mutators must be active in the same round.
The Mutated badge requires 1,230 coins spent in one round. A private server (250 Robux) lets you control the timing without other players interfering. Alternatively, announce your badge attempt in a public server — many players will help by also buying mutators to reduce your total cost.
Start with Extra Time (50 coins) to give yourself more time to buy the remaining mutators. Then add Lengthen (150), Negative (150), Foggy (150), High Speed (100), Low Gravity (130). Save Invincibility (500) for last since it’s the most expensive — by then you’ll have all others active.
With all other 6 coin mutators active, purchase Invincibility. All 7 will now be simultaneously active and the Mutated badge should trigger immediately. Total cost: exactly 1,230 coins in one round. Invincibility last is recommended since it also lets you finish the (now harder due to Lengthen + High Speed + Low Gravity + Foggy) tower without dying.
After earning the Mutated badge, keep the mutators on for the rest of the round — the Invincibility + Extra Time combination means you can still complete the tower despite the chaos from Foggy, High Speed and Low Gravity all being active at once. A chaotic but memorable run.
Several mutators have been added and later removed throughout Tower of Hell’s history. These are no longer available in the game.
| Mutator | Effect | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shrinking | Removed a section from the tower | Removed | Added July 27, 2018 as Bunny Hop’s replacement — removed 3 days later |
| Rainbow Fog | Color-cycling filter for use with Foggy | Removed | Intended as a companion to the Foggy mutator — never returned |
| Fluffy | Added a random outfit to every player (“Floofy”) | Removed | April Fools’ 2022 limited event mutator. Started at 50 coins, raised to 200, removed April 4, 2022. |
The Bunny Hop mutator itself has a complicated history — it was removed on July 27, 2018, replaced by Shrinking, then re-added on an unknown date, then removed again in December 2019, and finally brought back in 2020 where it remains today.
What’s the difference between Invincibility and Invisibility? Completely different mutators. Invincibility (500 coins) makes you immune to kill parts — you cannot die. Invisibility (25 Robux) makes all players visually transparent — purely cosmetic. These two are the most commonly confused mutators in the game.
Do mutators affect all players or just me? All players on the server — that’s the defining characteristic of mutators versus gears. When you buy a mutator, everyone in the server receives its effects (positive or negative) for the rest of that round.
Can I buy mutators with coins or do I need Robux? 7 mutators can be bought with coins directly: Invincibility, Extra Time, Low Gravity, High Speed, Negative, Lengthen, and Foggy. The other 5 require Robux, OR you can buy them with coins if you have a Membership subscription. See the full cost table above.
How do I earn the Mutated badge? Activate all 7 coin mutators (Foggy, Invincibility, High Speed, Low Gravity, Negative, Lengthen, Extra Time) in the same round. Robux mutators are not required. Total cost is 1,230 coins. See our Mutated Badge Guide above for step-by-step instructions.
Does Double Coins mutator stack with the Double Coins gamepass? Yes, but not multiplicatively. If both are active you earn 300% of normal coins — not 400%. So a Normal Tower gives 300 coins instead of the 100 base or 200 from gamepass alone.
What is the cheapest useful mutator? Extra Time at 50 coins — adds 2 full minutes to the round timer for everyone with zero downside. Best coin-to-value ratio in the entire shop. Previously cost 90 coins for only 1 minute; now it’s the most accessible helpful mutator in the game.
Someone bought Bunny Hop — what do I do? Change server. Bunny Hop forces continuous jumping making most sections extremely hard. There is no counter to it other than Invincibility (which prevents kill-part deaths but not the jumping). The quickest solution is to leave and find a new server without it active.
Do mutators carry over between rounds? No. All mutators expire when a round ends. You must repurchase every new round. Any coins spent on mutators are lost when the round resets, regardless of whether the effects were used.
