When Can You Get the Sewers Master Key in Valor Mortis?

The Sewers Master Key becomes available during Chapter 8: Blasphemy. This chapter takes place across two locations — the City of Orphans and the University. The sewer section is in the City of Orphans portion, so you’ll be looking for this key early in the chapter before you head into the University.

The nearest checkpoint is the Sewers Lantern. Rest there before pushing deeper into the sewers. You’ll want to have your health in good shape — there are several enemies between you and the key.

How to Get the Sewers Key First

Before you can grab the Sewers Master Key, you need the regular Sewers Key. Don’t skip it. Without it you can’t access the part of the sewers where the Master Key is hidden.

Here’s how to find the Sewers Key:

• From the Sewers Lantern, head forward into the sewers.
• Fight your way through the Carrion enemies and a Spewer. Take them down before pushing forward — trying to run past them in a tight corridor rarely ends well.
• Keep going until you reach a Volunteer enemy at the end of a path. He’s a ranged attacker and hits hard. Take him out carefully.
• Climb down the ladder behind him. At the bottom you’ll face two Risen Grenadiers in a cramped room.
• Clear both of them. The Sewers Key is inside a chest near the body in that room.
• Pick it up — this is also near where the Mice’s parents are for the Mummy and Daddy quest, if you’re working on side content.

With the Sewers Key in hand, head back to the gate near the first grapple point past the Sewers Lantern. Use it to unlock that gate and push into the next section of the sewers.

Sewers Master Key Location in Valor Mortis

Now that the gate is open, here’s how to reach the Sewers Master Key:

Step 1 — Enter the Gate and Look Left

Once you pass through the gate you unlocked with the Sewers Key, you’ll enter a wider section of the sewers. There’s a route that splits. Take the left route. Keep following it. Don’t head right yet — the Master Key is at the far end of the left passage.

Step 2 — Move Through the Flooded Passage

The left route runs through a half-flooded corridor. There are enemies here. The tight space makes this section feel more dangerous than it is — just be patient and clear them out methodically rather than rushing.

Step 3 — Pull the Platform Out from the Wall

At the end of the left passage, you’ll hit a gap in the flooded area. Look for a platform embedded in the wall. Pull it out across the gap — this is an environmental puzzle that’s easy to miss if you’re not looking carefully at the wall.

Step 4 — Cross and Grab the Key

Once the platform is pulled out, use it to cross over the half-flooded gap. On the other side, the Sewers Master Key is sitting there waiting for you. Pick it up.

What Does the Sewers Master Key Unlock in Valor Mortis?

The Sewers Master Key opens locked sewer passages that you may have spotted earlier. Here’s what you get access to:

• The last locked sewer passage — this opens routes for faster navigation back through the sewers and toward the city above.
• A gate near the Sewers Lantern in the University region — use the key here to access a small secluded area of the city. Inside is a chest containing Masterwork Firearm Parts, which are some of the rarest upgrade materials in the game. These are needed to push a firearm to its maximum upgrade level.
