The Lost Boy is one of the shorter side quests in Valor Mortis, but it’s also one of the trickier ones. The game barely points you in the right direction once it starts. If you’ve been wandering around Wolfsbane Field with no idea where to go next, this guide walks you through every step. No fluff, just what you need.
Where to Start The Lost Boy Quest in Valor Mortis
This quest becomes available at the beginning of Chapter 5: Crime. You’re in the Vale of Wrath region, specifically at Wolfsbane Field.
When you arrive at the Wolfsbane Field lantern, look for a house on the left side. Go through the door at the back of the house. Once you’re inside, look to the right and you’ll find a note sitting on a bench. This is Mirek’s Note. Interact with it to begin The Lost Boy quest.
The note tells the story of a young boy named Mirek who left his parents to join the resistance. It also gives you a bit more background on the Shrike. If you head upstairs before leaving, you can watch a blue memory of his parents. It’s worth a look for the lore.
Quick heads up — before you go exploring, there are enemies near the house and shed. Clear them out first. It makes things a lot smoother.

How to Find Mirek — The Lost Boy Location in Valor Mortis
This is the part most players get stuck on. The game gives you no waypoint and no obvious hint. Here’s exactly what to do.

Step 1 — Head Down the Dirt Path
Exit the house and take the dirt path forward. You’ll come across a bridge. Cross it and deal with the enemies on the other side near a house and a shed in the area.

Step 2 — Cross the Partially Submerged Bridge
After clearing those enemies, look slightly to the left for a second bridge that’s partially submerged in water. Cross it too. Don’t rush here — enemies can catch you mid-crossing.
Step 3 — Get Past the Stacked Crates
On the other side you’ll find a stack of crates. Two enemies are hiding here. One of them is a tougher Risen Sapeur type. A good trick is to shoot the barrel on his back — it’ll explode and deal heavy damage. You can also try sneaking past, but the path is tight.
Past the crates, look to your left. There’s a weak point on a tree — shoot it before entering the cave area. It opens a shortcut back for easier navigation later.

Step 4 — Enter the Cave and Find the Cellar Key
Head into the cave. Inside you’ll find a chest containing Pure Blade Material. But what you’re actually here for is just past it.
Look down onto the lower rock platform. You’ll see a body. That’s Mirek. And next to him is the Cellar Key.
Pick up the key. The quest updates here. It’s a sad moment — the boy didn’t make it — but the quest isn’t over yet.

How to Complete The Lost Boy Quest — Unlock the Cellar
Now that you have the Cellar Key, head back to the house where you started the quest.
To the right of where you first entered the house, there’s a locked cellar door. Use the Cellar Key on it. Head down the stairs into the cellar.
On a desk inside the cellar, there’s a note. Interact with it. Reading that note is what actually completes The Lost Boy quest in Valor Mortis.
That’s it. Short quest, but not an easy one to figure out without help.
The Lost Boy Quest Rewards in Valor Mortis
Here’s what you get for completing this quest:
- Catalysts — a couple thousand, useful for leveling up. See our guide on how to farm Catalysts and level up fast if you need more.
- Wounds That Heal Amber — found in a chest inside the cellar itself. Don’t miss it before you leave. It’s Amber #25 in the collectible list.
The Amber alone makes this quest worth doing even if you’re not a side quest completionist. Make sure you grab it from the chest before heading out of the cellar.
Is The Lost Boy Quest Missable in Valor Mortis?
No. You can return to Wolfsbane Field at any point. The quest isn’t tied to a time window and won’t lock you out if you miss it during your first run through Chapter 5. That said, it’s best to pick it up early since you’re already in the area.
