What Is Ofieri Gear?
Ofieri gear is a complete equipment set added in The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone. It includes four craftable armor pieces, two steel swords, a crossbow, and a full set of horse equipment for Roach. Collecting all of it unlocks the achievement “I Wore Ofieri Before It Was Cool”.
The armor set itself is level 38 light armor that boosts stamina regeneration and significantly improves sign intensity, making it a strong choice for sign-focused builds. Even if you are not chasing the achievement, the individual pieces are worth knowing about.
There is no Ofieri silver sword. All Ofieri bladed weapons are steel swords or sabres.

Ofieri Horse Equipment (Roach)
- Ofieri Blinders – Buy from Dulla kh’Amanni
- Ofieri Saddlebags – Buy from Dulla kh’Amanni
- Ofieri Stock Saddle – Win the horse race against Dulla (one attempt only)
Achievement requirement: You need the four armor pieces, all three horse items, and at least one sword. The crossbow is not required for the achievement.
Step 1 – Find Dulla kh’Amanni at Upper Mill
Every piece of Ofieri gear runs through one man: Dulla kh’Amanni, an Ofieri merchant camped at Upper Mill in northeastern Velen, east of Miller’s Lake near Brunwich. You will also find the Runewright at this camp, who handles the enchanting system introduced in Hearts of Stone.
Upper Mill is easy to reach from the Brunwich fast travel point. Ride east until you hit the camp. Dulla is outside his tent.
Talk to him. He will tell you about his stolen diagrams and the treasure hunt begins. But before you leave, there are things to buy and a race to win.
Step 2 – Buy the Horse Equipment and Sword from Dulla
Open Dulla’s shop and purchase the following directly:
- Ofieri Blinders – Horse blinders for Roach
- Ofieri Saddlebags – Saddlebags for Roach
- Ofieri Decorated Saber (Level 35) – A ready-to-use steel saber, or alternatively buy the Diagram: Ofieri Saber (Level 38 relic) if you prefer crafting the higher-tier version. You only need one sword for the achievement.
These items are available for purchase at any point and do not require completing any quest first.

Step 3 – Win the Horse Race Against Dulla (Races: Swift as the Western Winds)
After browsing his shop, bring up his horse in conversation. Ask him about it and he will challenge Geralt to a race. This starts the side quest Races: Swift as the Western Winds.
This race can be done at any level since it is purely a riding challenge. The course runs through the area around Upper Mill. Beat Dulla to the finish line and he hands over the Ofieri Stock Saddle, which gives Roach 85 Horse Stamina.
You only get one attempt. If you lose, the saddle is gone. However, if you somehow miss it, the saddle can be purchased from Dulla after patch 1.11 – the update fixed the bug that made it unobtainable after a failed race.
Tips for winning the race:
- Use Roach’s sprint stamina wisely – burst ahead on the straight sections and ease off on corners.
- Make sure Roach’s stamina bar has not been depleted before the race starts.
- Equip the best saddle you currently have before the race to give Roach better stamina.
- The race is not particularly punishing at higher levels with a well-equipped Roach.
Step 4 – Complete From Ofier’s Distant Shores (All Four Armor Diagrams)
The four armor diagrams – for the chest, trousers, gauntlets, and boots – are all stolen and scattered across Fallen Knight bandit camps in the Gustfields area. Dulla assigns you the treasure hunt to recover them.
You can also start this quest by finding any one of the diagrams during world exploration, most commonly during the side quest Rose on a Red Field, where a chest in a cabin near the first group of soldiers contains the trousers diagram.
How to Start the Quest From Dulla
After the race, speak to Dulla again about the diagrams. He explains that Fallen Knights ambushed his caravan and stole his priceless gear blueprints. He asks Geralt to retrieve them.
Diagram 1 – Ofieri Scale Armor (Chest) – Hidden Bandit Hideout
Head south of the Von Everec Estate. Near the road on the western side, you will find a ransacked wagon and a dead horse. This is the attack site Dulla mentioned. Activate your Witcher Senses.
- Follow the trail north from the wagon.
- Find a blood trail and follow it to a corpse leaning against a tree.
- Look around for another trail. Find it a few steps north of the tree.
- The trail leads to a camouflaged trapdoor entrance to an underground hideout.
- Inside, kill four Fallen Knights at level 33–34.
- Open the chest to find the Armor Diagram – Untranslated and a Letter with Orders. Read the letter – it marks the locations of the remaining three camps on your map.
Diagram 2 – Ofieri Boots – Fallen Knight Camp West of Erde
Ride to the camp west of Erde village (the same village from the Without a Trace quest). Clear the Fallen Knights guarding the camp – there are more of them here than in the hideout, so be ready for a harder fight. Loot the chest in the camp for the Boots Diagram – Untranslated.

Diagram 3 – Ofieri Gauntlets – Fallen Knight Camp South-Southeast of Upper Mill
Head to the camp south-southeast of Upper Mill. Around six Fallen Knights at level 33–34 are here. Kill them and open the chest for the Gauntlets Diagram – Untranslated.
Diagram 4 – Ofieri Sharovary (Trousers) – Third Bandit Camp
The fourth camp holds the trousers diagram. The three remaining camps after the hideout can be visited in any order. Clear the Fallen Knights – note the enemy count increases at each subsequent location, so expect up to 10–15 knights at the larger camps. Loot the chest for the Sharovary Diagram – Untranslated.
Tip: You can find the trousers diagram early during Rose on a Red Field by checking the chest in a cabin near the first soldier group. If you already have it, the quest still sends you to the remaining three camps.
Step 5 – Return the Diagrams to Dulla
Bring all four untranslated diagrams back to Dulla kh’Amanni at Upper Mill. He takes them and tells you to come back the next day so he can translate and copy them.
Use meditation to skip forward in time. Meditate for at least one hour (or more) to trigger the next day. Return to Dulla and collect your four translated diagrams:
- Diagram: Ofieri Scale Armor
- Diagram: Ofieri Sharovary
- Diagram: Ofieri Gauntlets
- Diagram: Ofieri Boots
After completing the treasure hunt you can also buy the diagrams directly from Dulla’s shop if you missed any.
Step 6 – Craft the Four Armor Pieces
Take the diagrams to any master armorer to craft the four pieces. The Ofieri armor set is level 38 and requires standard crafting materials. Check each diagram for the exact component list before heading to the armorer so you have everything you need in advance.
Once all four pieces are crafted and in your inventory (equipped or not), and you also have the three horse items and at least one sword, the I Wore Ofieri Before It Was Cool achievement unlocks automatically.
The Ofieri Kilij – Bonus Steel Sword in Dead Man’s Party
There is an additional Ofieri steel sword called the Ofieri Kilij hidden in the Von Everec family crypt during the Dead Man’s Party quest. It can be found just inside the crypt, to the left of the entrance. The Kilij has strong stats including armor piercing, critical hit chance, and both Aard and Igni sign intensity bonuses. It is not required for the achievement but it is one of the better steel swords available at that stage of the game. For the full crypt walkthrough, see our Dead Man’s Party guide.
The Ofieri Crossbow (Relic) – Missable Vault Loot in Open Sesame!
The relic-tier Ofieri Crossbow is found inside the Borsodis’ Auction House vault during the Open Sesame! main quest. Look for the chest next to a pillar with a pressure plate near the pedestal where Maximilian Borsodi’s House was placed. This item is permanently missable – if you do not loot it during the quest, it is gone forever. The crossbow is not required for the achievement but it is the higher-tier version of the weapon.
The Master-tier Ofieri Crossbow can be purchased from Dulla at any time as a non-missable alternative.
Achievement – I Wore Ofieri Before It Was Cool
To unlock this achievement you need all of the following at the same time (equipped or in inventory):
- Ofieri Scale Armor
- Ofieri Sharovary
- Ofieri Gauntlets
- Ofieri Boots
- Ofieri Stock Saddle
- Ofieri Blinders
- Ofieri Saddlebags
- Any one Ofieri sword (Decorated Saber or crafted Saber)
The crossbow is not required. Any Ofieri items you found as random world loot before starting the quest count toward the achievement automatically.
Note on a known bug: In early versions of the game (before patch 1.11), the achievement could fail to trigger even with all items collected. The patch resolved this. If you are playing on a fully updated version of Witcher 3 Remastered, you should not encounter this issue.
Tips for Getting All Ofieri Gear
- Go to Dulla at Upper Mill as early as possible during Hearts of Stone. Buy the horse items and race him before doing anything else at the camp.
- Do not skip the race. You only get one attempt, and the saddle is required for the achievement.
- Keep an eye out for the trousers diagram during Rose on a Red Field – picking it up early gives you a head start on the treasure hunt.
- Read the Letter with Orders inside the first bandit hideout immediately. It marks all remaining camp locations on your map.
- Loot the Ofieri Crossbow (Relic) from the Open Sesame! vault. It is permanently missable and the best crossbow version available.
- Do not sell any Ofieri items until after the achievement unlocks. Selling a required piece resets your progress toward it.
- Use meditation to skip a full day after returning the diagrams to Dulla so you can collect them the same session.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the Ofieri merchant in Witcher 3?
The Ofieri merchant, Dulla kh’Amanni, is at Upper Mill in northeastern Velen, east of Miller’s Lake near Brunwich. You will find him outside his tent at the Ofieri camp, which also houses the Runewright.
Do I need the Ofieri Crossbow for the achievement?
No. The I Wore Ofieri Before It Was Cool achievement only requires the four armor pieces, three horse items, and at least one Ofieri sword. The crossbow is optional.
What happens if I lose the horse race against Dulla?
If you lose, Dulla wins the race and you do not receive the saddle immediately. After patch 1.11, the Ofieri Stock Saddle can be purchased directly from Dulla if you fail or miss the race.
Can I start From Ofier’s Distant Shores without talking to Dulla first?
Yes. If you find any of the four untranslated diagrams during world exploration (commonly during Rose on a Red Field), the quest activates automatically and directs you to find an Ofieri who can translate them. This leads you to Dulla at Upper Mill.
How many Fallen Knights do I have to fight for the diagrams?
The first hideout has four enemies at level 33–34. The subsequent camps scale up, with the larger locations having up to 10–15 Fallen Knights. Come prepared with good oils and potions for the final camps.
Is the Ofieri armor set worth using?
At level 38 it is solid light armor with strong sign intensity bonuses, making it a natural fit for sign builds. The set boosts stamina regeneration and multiple sign stats, which complements Aard and Igni specialisations well. It is not Witcher School gear but it competes well at its level tier.
Where is the missable Ofieri Crossbow (Relic)?
Inside the Borsodis’ Auction House vault during the Open Sesame! main quest. Check the chest next to the pillar with the pressure plate near where Maximilian Borsodi’s House was placed. You cannot return to the vault after the quest ends, so loot it during the mission or it is gone permanently.
