Yukong is the Helm Master of the Xianzhou Luofu’s Sky-Faring Commission — a seasoned pilot and deadshot who has been buried under mountains of paperwork ever since taking command. In Honkai Star Rail, she is a 4-star Imaginary Harmony support with some of the highest individual buff values in the game, paired with one of the highest skill floors. In patch 4.3, she remains a rewarding option for players willing to master her demanding turn-order management. This Yukong build guide covers everything — best Light Cones, Relics, stat priorities, team compositions, and Eidolons — to get the most out of her in the current patch.
TL;DR – Yukong Build Summary (4.3)
- Yukong is a 4-star Imaginary Harmony support who provides massive ATK%, CRIT Rate, and CRIT DMG buffs via her Roaring Bowstrings mechanic
- Best Light Cone: Past and Future (signature) or Planetary Rendezvous (best for Imaginary teams at high superimposition)
- Best Relic Set: Messenger Traversing Hackerspace (4-piece) or Broken Keel (2) + Musketeer (2) mix
- Best Planar Ornament: Broken Keel or Fleet of the Ageless
- Target stats: HP% and DEF% for survivability, 30%+ Effect RES for Broken Keel, SPD tuned to act just before the DPS
- Her buffs only affect allies who act after her in the turn order — SPD tuning is essential
- Prydwen: “The most difficult-to-play unit to date. Even Qingque is simple by comparison.”
- Trace priority: Skill > Ultimate > Talent > Basic ATK
Who Is Yukong in Honkai Star Rail?
Yukong is a 4-star character following the Path of Harmony with the Imaginary element. She is the head of the Sky-Faring Commission on Xianzhou Luofu — one of the Six Charioteers and a renowned pilot whose marksmanship is spoken of in legend. She would rather be flying than filing reports, but responsibilities are responsibilities.
On the battlefield, Yukong is one of the most powerful offensive buffers available at 4-star rarity. Her Skill applies Roaring Bowstrings — a stacking state that grants the entire party up to 80% ATK. When she uses her Ultimate while Roaring Bowstrings is active, she additionally grants all allies up to 28% CRIT Rate and 65% CRIT DMG. Combined, this is a buff package that rivals or exceeds some 5-star supports in pure numbers.
The catch — and it is a significant one — is that Roaring Bowstrings stacks are consumed one at a time as each ally takes their turn. With only 2 stacks maximum, only two ally turns can benefit from the full buff after Yukong’s Skill. This means her buffs are highly turn-order dependent: she must act immediately before her primary DPS to ensure the carry benefits from the peak buff window. Any desync — from SPD fluctuations, action advances, or unexpected extra turns — can cause the buffs to expire on the wrong characters. Prydwen calls her unambiguously the most difficult-to-play character in the game.
Game8 also notes she has a rate-up on the Version 4.3 Cyrene and Phainon banners (June 24 – July 2026), making this an opportune time to acquire her if you have not already.
Understanding Roaring Bowstrings
Roaring Bowstrings is the core mechanic of Yukong’s kit. Understanding it fully is required before building or playing her:
- Yukong gains 2 stacks of Roaring Bowstrings when she uses her Skill
- While active, all allies’ ATK increases by up to 80%
- After Yukong uses her Skill, on the same turn the stacks are not removed — they persist through that action
- Every time any ally ends their turn (including Yukong), she loses 1 stack. This includes Extra Actions from abilities like Ultimates
- If Roaring Bowstrings is active when Yukong uses her Ultimate, it additionally grants all allies +28% CRIT Rate and +65% CRIT DMG
- The combined ATK (80%), CRIT Rate (28%), and CRIT DMG (65%) buff is enormous — but it expires across only 2 ally turns after Yukong acts
The practical implication: Yukong needs to act directly before the DPS character in the turn order so that the DPS uses both of those remaining stacks. If two other characters act between Yukong and the carry, the buffs are gone. This requires careful SPD tuning — typically building Yukong with slightly higher SPD than the DPS so she consistently acts just before them.
A useful workaround Prydwen highlights: Extra Actions (Ultimates) do not end the character’s main turn. A DPS who uses their Ultimate as an Extra Action can benefit from Yukong’s buffs even if a turn desync occurs, as long as one Roaring Bowstrings stack remains at the moment of the Extra Action.
Yukong Skills and Abilities
Basic ATK – Arrowslinger
Deals Imaginary DMG to a single target equal to a percentage of Yukong’s ATK. A standard filler action that restores +1 SP for the team. Generates 20 Energy. The Talent enhances this every other turn into a significantly stronger attack — making Yukong’s Basic ATK more impactful than most Harmony support filler actions.
Skill – Emboldening Salvo
Obtains 2 stacks of Roaring Bowstrings, increasing all allies’ ATK by up to 80% per stack. Generates 30 Energy. The Skill does not end Yukong’s turn and she does not consume a stack herself on the turn it is used — the stacks only begin depleting when other allies end their turns after her. Use this immediately before the DPS character’s turn for maximum buff uptime.
Ultimate – Diving Kestrel
Deals Imaginary DMG to a single enemy equal to up to 380% of Yukong’s ATK — an extremely high multiplier for a support, making this a meaningful damage action in its own right. If Roaring Bowstrings is currently active when the Ultimate is used, all allies additionally receive +28% CRIT Rate and +65% CRIT DMG. This bonus stacks with the existing ATK buff from Roaring Bowstrings. The combined buff package is best used immediately after the Skill — timing the Ultimate before the DPS acts ensures they benefit from the full ATK + CRIT buff. Costs 130 Energy.
Talent – Seven Layers, One Arrow
Every other turn, Yukong’s Basic ATK is enhanced. The Enhanced Basic ATK deals additional Imaginary DMG equal to up to 80% ATK on top of the normal Basic ATK DMG, and increases the Toughness-Reducing DMG of the attack by 100%. This creates an unusual situation: Yukong’s Enhanced Basic ATK deals up to approximately 180% ATK total and deals double Toughness damage — more than most dedicated DPS characters’ Skills. Combined with the A4 Trace’s 12% Imaginary DMG buff, she contributes meaningful personal damage and Weakness Break pressure on Enhanced Basic turns. Generates no extra Energy.
Technique – Chasing the Wind
After using the Technique, Yukong enters Sprint mode for 20 seconds (increased movement SPD). When she enters battle by attacking enemies in Sprint mode, she immediately gains 1 stack of Roaring Bowstrings. Always use this before combat — the free Roaring Bowstrings stack at battle start means the first Skill only needs to add 1 additional stack to reach maximum, and the buffs are already active before Yukong takes her first turn.
Major Traces
- Archerion (A2): Yukong can resist 1 debuff application once every 2 turns. This is particularly valuable for her rotation management — being Imprisoned, Frozen, or otherwise CC’d on a crucial turn can completely break the Roaring Bowstrings timing. Debuff resistance prevents the most damaging desyncs from occurring on Yukong’s side
- Bowmaster (A4): While Yukong is on the field, all allies’ Imaginary DMG increases by 12%. A passive, unconditional team-wide buff that activates as long as Yukong is alive. Particularly effective in Imaginary-type teams alongside characters like Welt, Dan Heng • Imbibitor Lunae, or Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae
- Majestas (A6): While Roaring Bowstrings is active, Yukong regenerates 2 additional Energy per ally turn. With 2 stacks active after her Skill, she gains up to 6 bonus Energy from the two ally turns that follow (4 Energy from 2 allies) plus her own turn. Prydwen rates this as her most impactful Bonus Trace — it dramatically improves her Energy cycling, making her 130-cost Ultimate much more accessible without external Energy support. Her rotation depends on this trace to function smoothly in endgame content
Yukong Best Light Cones (4.3)
1. Past and Future (Signature Light Cone)
Yukong’s dedicated signature Light Cone. When the wearer uses their Skill, the next ally taking action deals 16% more DMG for 1 turn. Also provides some base HP for survivability. The 16% DMG bonus is applied to whichever ally acts immediately after Yukong uses her Skill — ideally the DPS character. While the bonus is not enormous, it layers cleanly on top of Roaring Bowstrings and fires automatically on the most important turn. A reliable and thematic choice for Yukong.
2. But the Battle Isn’t Over (Bronya’s Signature)
If available and unused, this is an excellent alternative. It provides +16% Energy Regeneration Rate and, when the wearer uses their Ultimate on an ally, regenerates 1 SP (once every 2 Ultimates). Note: Yukong’s Ultimate targets an enemy, not an ally, so the SP regeneration does not trigger. The Energy Regeneration Rate is the primary value — it meaningfully reduces the turns needed to cycle Yukong’s 130-cost Ultimate and keeps the Roaring Bowstrings + CRIT buff window available more frequently. The following-ally DMG buff from using Skill also applies, making it comparable to the signature.
3. Planetary Rendezvous (Best at High Superimposition)
At S5, provides the highest personal damage contribution for Yukong and a consistent DMG bonus when paired with Imaginary DPS teammates. Pocket Tactics identifies this as Yukong’s best-in-slot specifically at high superimposition — the stacking DMG% bonus in Imaginary-aligned teams significantly amplifies both Yukong’s own Enhanced Basic ATK and the team’s Imaginary output. An excellent choice if you have it at S3 or higher and are running an Imaginary-focused team.
4. Memories of the Past (4-Star)
Provides ATK% and regenerates 4 Energy whenever the wearer inflicts Weakness Break. Yukong deals significant Toughness damage through her Enhanced Basic ATK (Talent), so Weakness Break Energy procs are meaningful for tightening her Ultimate cycle. A good budget 4-star with synergy for her kit.
5. Carve the Moon, Weave the Clouds (4-Star)
Randomly buffs ATK%, CRIT DMG%, or Energy Regeneration for all allies at the start of each turn. The random nature means it cannot be relied upon to apply a specific buff at the right moment, but over the course of a fight all three effects contribute meaningfully to both Yukong and her teammates. A usable filler option when better alternatives are unavailable.
Yukong Best Relic Sets (4.3)
Messenger Traversing Hackerspace (4-Piece) – Best SPD Support Option
The 2-piece gives +6% SPD — directly helping Yukong act before her DPS. The 4-piece gives another +6% SPD and, when the wearer uses their Ultimate, advances all allies’ actions by 2%. The action advance from the 4-piece can help fine-tune the turn order after her Ultimate fires, potentially letting the DPS act sooner to capitalise on the buff window. A strong all-round support choice that leans into her SPD-tuning requirement.
Broken Keel (2) + Musketeer of Wild Wheat (2) – Best Survivability Build
Game8 recommends this combination for Yukong, prioritising survivability since her own buffs do not scale with her stats. Broken Keel (2-piece) provides +10% Effect RES — helping reach the 30% threshold for the full 4-piece Broken Keel CRIT DMG bonus (if using Broken Keel ornament). Musketeer (2-piece) provides +12% ATK and +6% SPD — boosting her Enhanced Basic ATK damage and helping her act before the DPS. Clean, conditional-free, and lets her focus relic stats on HP% and DEF% for durability.
Prisoner in Deep Confinement (2) + Musketeer of Wild Wheat (2)
A transitional combination providing +12% ATK (Prisoner 2-piece) and +12% ATK + 6% SPD (Musketeer 2-piece). Simple and effective for players building toward better-statted pieces without specific set requirements. ATK benefits Yukong’s damage from Enhanced Basic ATK and Ultimate, while SPD helps with turn-order positioning.
Yukong Best Planar Ornaments (4.3)
Broken Keel (Best Team CRIT DMG)
The top Planar Ornament for Yukong when her Effect RES can reach 30% or higher. It provides +10% Effect RES and, when that threshold is met, grants all allies +10% CRIT DMG. Yukong gains +18% HP from her minor traces and can build Effect RES through substats and the 2-piece Broken Keel relic bonus — reaching 30% total is achievable. The team-wide CRIT DMG bonus stacks on top of her already enormous Roaring Bowstrings CRIT DMG buff for an even larger combined CRIT DMG total. Game8 recommends building at least 30% Effect RES specifically to activate this.
Fleet of the Ageless (ATK Team Buff)
Provides +12% Max HP and, when Yukong’s SPD reaches 120 or higher, grants all allies +8% ATK. A double benefit: the HP improves her survivability (and since her buffs do not scale with her stats, she should invest in HP% for durability), and the ATK buff stacks with Roaring Bowstrings’ own ATK% bonus. The 120 SPD threshold is achievable with SPD boots and Messenger relic bonuses. A clean and versatile ornament choice.
Sprightly Vonwacq (Action Advance Option)
Provides +5% Energy Regeneration Rate and, when Yukong’s SPD is 120 or higher, advances her action by 40% at battle start. The action advance ensures she acts first in the very opening of combat — getting Roaring Bowstrings active before the DPS takes their first turn. The Energy Regen also helps reach the 130-cost Ultimate faster. Use this when the opening-turn buff window is your primary concern.
Yukong Best Stats and Substats (4.3)
Main Stats
- Body: HP% or DEF% (her buffs do not scale with her stats — invest in survivability)
- Boots: SPD (fine-tune to act consistently just before the DPS in the turn order)
- Planar Sphere (Orb): HP% or Imaginary DMG Boost (HP% for survivability; Imaginary DMG for personal damage on Enhanced Basic)
- Link Rope: Energy Regeneration Rate (reduces the turns needed to cycle her expensive 130-cost Ultimate)
Substat Priority
- SPD (most important — tune SPD to act just before the DPS character consistently)
- Effect RES (reach 30%+ to activate Broken Keel’s team CRIT DMG bonus)
- HP% and DEF% (survivability, since buffs do not scale with her stats)
- ATK% (secondary — improves Enhanced Basic ATK and Ultimate personal damage)
The most important thing Prydwen emphasises for Yukong: her buffs are not tied to her own stats. The ATK%, CRIT Rate, and CRIT DMG she provides to teammates are fixed values from her Traces and Skill/Ultimate multipliers — they do not scale with her own ATK, CRIT, or HP. This means there is no reason to build offensive stats on Yukong for the purpose of buffing. Instead, build HP% and DEF% for survivability, SPD for turn-order positioning, and Effect RES for Broken Keel activation. Any personal damage from her Enhanced Basic ATK is a bonus, not the goal.
Yukong Best Team Compositions (4.3)
Best Team: Yukong, Dan Heng IL, Tingyun, Sustain
Dan Heng • Imbibitor Lunae is Yukong’s strongest partner. He is an Imaginary DPS who benefits from both her ATK% and CRIT buffs, and the A4 Trace’s Imaginary DMG amplification applies to his entire damage output. Crucially, DHIL’s Skill uses are Extra Actions — they do not consume Roaring Bowstrings stacks. This means Yukong can use her Skill, DHIL can chain 3 Skill enhancements (all as Extra Actions), then fire Fulgurant Leap while both Roaring Bowstrings stacks and the CRIT buff from Yukong’s Ultimate are still fully active. Tingyun adds ATK% and Energy Regeneration. Sustain rounds out the team.
Imaginary Team: Yukong, Welt, Tingyun, Sustain
Welt benefits from the A4 Trace’s Imaginary DMG bonus and the full Roaring Bowstrings ATK + CRIT package. His Slow mechanics mean enemies take more actions — but each enemy action does not consume Roaring Bowstrings stacks (only ally turns do), so enemy activity does not destabilise the buff timing. Tingyun helps with Energy cycling for both DPS characters.
Speed-Tuned Carry Team: Yukong, Seele/Jingliu, Bronya, Sustain
For non-Imaginary DPS characters, the SPD tuning challenge is real but manageable. Seele has Resurgence extra turns that can consume Roaring Bowstrings stacks, requiring attention. Jingliu‘s HP drain during Spectral Transmigration does not create additional ally turns, making her a cleaner partner for Yukong. Bronya adds a second layer of buffs and her action advance can be timed to fire immediately after Yukong’s buff window is established.
General Rules for Yukong Team Building
- Always build Yukong’s SPD slightly higher than the DPS character so she consistently acts before them
- Prefer DPS characters whose primary damage comes in Extra Actions (Ultimates, Skill Extra Actions) rather than full-turn normal attacks — these consume Roaring Bowstrings stacks more predictably
- Avoid characters with highly variable SPD or frequent action advance unless the team is specifically speed-tuned for those fluctuations
- Imaginary DPS characters benefit from both the buff package and the A4 Trace Imaginary DMG bonus — prioritise Imaginary carries when possible
Characters That Work Well With Yukong
- Dan Heng • Imbibitor Lunae – Best partner; Skill Extra Actions do not consume stacks, enabling full buff uptime
- Welt – Imaginary DPS who benefits from both buffs and A4 Imaginary DMG bonus
- Tingyun – ATK buff and Energy Regen; helps Yukong cycle her 130-cost Ultimate
- Bronya – Second action advancer; stacks buffs with Yukong’s package
- Jingliu – Spectral Transmigration is predictable for stack management; no unexpected extra turns
- Luocha – SP-positive sustain; his passive auto-Skill does not consume Roaring Bowstrings stacks
- Fu Xuan – Tank sustain whose passive HP reduction does not trigger ally turn stack consumption
- Pela – Provides DEF shred and cycles quickly with her own Ultimate; predictable turn order
Yukong Eidolons – Are They Worth It?
Yukong is a standard banner character who accumulates Eidolons over time. Her Eidolons address some of her genuine mechanical weaknesses.
E1 – Aerial Marshal
At the start of battle, increases the SPD of all allies by 10% for 2 turns. A team-wide SPD buff on the first 2 turns of every fight — useful for ensuring the opening turn order aligns correctly before SPD values settle. Also gives the DPS character a head start on reaching higher action counts in the opening waves. A practical and impactful E1.
E2 – Skyward Command
When any ally’s current Energy is equal to their Energy limit (full Energy), Yukong regenerates an additional 5 Energy. This effect can only trigger once per ally and resets after Yukong uses her Ultimate. In teams where DPS characters frequently reach full Energy (Seele’s Resurgence, or fast-cycling carries), this provides meaningful passive Energy generation for Yukong. It helps her reach the 130-cost Ultimate threshold faster without external Energy support.
E4 – Zephyrean Echoes
When Roaring Bowstrings is active, Yukong deals 30% more DMG to enemies. Since Roaring Bowstrings is active during her own turn when she uses the Skill and Ultimate, this 30% bonus applies to her Ultimate’s 380% ATK multiplier — a significant personal damage boost on her most powerful hit. A meaningful Eidolon for players who enjoy Yukong’s personal damage contribution from her Talent-enhanced Basic attacks and high-multiplier Ultimate.
E6 – Bowstring Thunderclap
When Yukong uses her Ultimate, she immediately gains 1 stack of Roaring Bowstrings. This addresses a core tension in her rotation: using the Ultimate depletes a stack on Yukong’s own turn. E6 gives it back immediately after, meaning she ends her Ultimate turn with the same stack count she had going in. The buff window effectively extends by one more ally turn per Ultimate use. A very meaningful rotation improvement for a fully invested Yukong player.
Recommended approach: take Eidolons naturally. E0 Yukong is already the most challenging version of her to play. E1 and E2 address practical issues (opening SPD tuning and Energy cycling). E6 extends the buff window in a meaningful way. Since she is on the standard banner, Eidolons accumulate without specific targeting.
Yukong Rotation Guide
Yukong’s rotation requires active attention every single turn. There is no auto-pilot:
- Use the Technique before every combat — she enters Sprint mode and gains 1 Roaring Bowstrings stack immediately when battle begins
- Ensure Yukong acts just before the DPS character in the turn order. If she is not positioned correctly, wait — using the Skill early wastes the buff window
- Use the Skill to reach 2 Roaring Bowstrings stacks (the Technique stack + Skill’s +2 = capped at 2 stacks from the start if Technique was used). Immediately follow with the Ultimate if Energy allows — this fires both the ATK buff and the full CRIT buff before the stacks begin depleting
- The DPS should act immediately after Yukong’s Ultimate — at this point, they benefit from +80% ATK, +28% CRIT Rate, +65% CRIT DMG simultaneously. One Roaring Bowstrings stack depletes when the DPS acts
- If a second ally acts before the DPS, that depletes the final stack before the carry benefits — avoid this. SPD tune to prevent it
- On Yukong’s Enhanced Basic ATK turns (every other turn from Talent), use Enhanced Basic ATK — it deals significant Imaginary DMG and double Toughness damage without costing SP
- On non-Enhanced turns without Roaring Bowstrings active: use Basic ATK to preserve SP for the DPS, then use the Skill again as soon as ready to prepare for the next buff window
- Track Roaring Bowstrings stacks on every ally turn. Know exactly which stacks remain and plan the next Skill use accordingly

Is Yukong Worth Using in Patch 4.3?
The honest answer from Prydwen’s review: Yukong’s buffs are powerful but she requires more effort than any other support character in the game, and despite all that effort, she still performs below alternatives in practical endgame scenarios. She is “nearly never a first-pick or second-pick for your damage dealer” in the current meta. The skill floor is genuinely high — mismanaging Roaring Bowstrings stacks by even one ally turn wastes the entire buff package.
That said, for players who invest in understanding her rotation and commit to SPD tuning, she provides buff values that few 4-star characters can match. In content where Imaginary DMG is advantaged, her A4 Trace Imaginary DMG bonus adds value no other Harmony character provides. And for dedicated fans of the character, mastering Yukong is one of the most satisfying achievements in Honkai Star Rail’s support roster.
If you are a new or mid-game player: build Bronya, Tingyun, or Pela first. If you are an experienced player looking for a challenge or specifically running Imaginary DPS characters: Yukong is a rewarding investment in 4.3, particularly with the buff from her Version 4.3 rate-up banner opportunity.
