Welt — the wise and sophisticated former Anti-Entropy Sovereign — is one of the most flexible characters in Honkai Star Rail, and in patch 4.3 he is stronger than he has ever been. His Version 4.2 Novaflare buffs dramatically overhauled his kit with a powerful new debuff called Weightless and significantly increased his damage multipliers. This Welt build guide covers everything — best Light Cones, Relics, stat priorities, team compositions, and Eidolons — to get the most out of post-Novaflare Welt in the current patch.
TL;DR – Welt Build Summary (4.3)

Who Is Welt in Honkai Star Rail?
Welt is a 5-star character following the Path of Nihility with the Imaginary element. He is the wise, composed Mr. Yang of the Astral Express — the former Anti-Entropy Sovereign who has saved Earth from annihilation more times than anyone can count. A man who once carried the weight of worlds now wanders the cosmos with the Trailblazer, drawing storyboards for his animation passion project, and occasionally reminding enemies why they should be terrified of a man with this much experience.
In battle, Welt is a versatile debuffer and sub-DPS who controls the flow of combat. His Skill bounces between enemies and applies Slow, his Ultimate imprisons all enemies simultaneously, and — since his Version 4.2 Novaflare overhaul — his Ultimate now also inflicts a powerful new Weightless state on all enemies for 2 turns. Weightless further delays enemy actions by 4% every time they are hit, reduces their DEF, and with his updated Traces also reduces their All-Type RES and amplifies damage they receive. He went from a capable but aging character to a genuinely modern debuff support in one patch.
Welt is available on the standard banner — no rate-up required — making him highly accessible. He is also one of the few characters whose value is difficult to summarise in a single role: he works as a hypercarry, a sub-DPS, a support debuffer, or some combination of all three depending on how you build and play him.
Welt Skills and Abilities (Post-Novaflare, 4.3)
Basic ATK – Gravity Suppression
Deals Imaginary DMG to a single target equal to 90% of Welt’s ATK. Generates 20 Energy. Used as a default action when preserving SP for teammates or when Welt does not need to spend his Skill Point. The Fighting Spirit A6 Trace converts some of his ATK from his DEF, giving his Basic ATK more punch relative to his build.
Skill – Edge of the Void
Deals Imaginary DMG equal to 72% ATK to a single target, then bounces two more times to random enemies, each hit dealing another 72% ATK. Every hit has a 75% base chance to apply Slow, reducing the enemy’s SPD by 10% for 2 turns. The true power of the Skill comes from his Talent — every hit against a Slowed enemy deals additional Imaginary DMG equal to 125% ATK (post-Novaflare, up from 75%). This turns the Skill from an underwhelming 216% ATK total into a devastating 396% ATK multi-hit attack against already-Slowed enemies. It is Welt’s primary damage action throughout the fight.
Ultimate – Synthetic Black Hole
Deals Imaginary AoE DMG equal to 150% ATK to all enemies, with a 100% base chance to Imprison them for 1 turn. Imprisoned enemies have their actions delayed by 12% and their SPD reduced by 10%. After the Novaflare update, the Ultimate now also inflicts the Weightless state on all enemies for 2 turns. While Weightless, enemies have their action delayed by an additional 4% every time they are attacked (up to 8 times per turn per enemy), and his updated Talent reduces their action progress by 40% and SPD by 5%. Costs 120 Energy.
Talent – Time Distortion (Novaflare Updated)
When hitting an enemy already Slowed, Welt deals additional Imaginary DMG equal to 125% of his ATK to that enemy. Post-Novaflare, the Talent also now works against Weightless enemies: it reduces the action progress of all Weightless enemies by 40% and their SPD by 5%. This creates a compounding action delay loop — Imprisonment delays, then Slow reduces speed, then Weightless delays further with every hit, then the Talent cuts their action progress. Enemies under Welt’s full debuff stack are barely able to move.
Technique – Gravitational Imprisonment
Creates a field before combat slowing enemies’ movement by 50% for 20 seconds. Upon entering combat via this field, there is a 100% base chance to Imprison all enemies for 1 turn. Always use this before fights — free Imprisonment at battle start delays enemy first turns and gives Welt time to set up his Skill-based Slow loop.
Major Traces
- Retribution (A2): When using Ultimate, there is a 100% base chance to increase DMG received by targets by 10% per hit against Weightless enemies for 2 turns. This stacks on every hit by any ally — in teams with frequent attackers, the DMG vulnerability ramps up quickly and benefits the whole team
- Judgment (A4): Using Welt’s Ultimate additionally regenerates 10 Energy. This directly improves Ultimate cycling speed, helping Welt apply Imprisonment and Weightless more frequently
- Punishment (A6): Excess Effect Hit Rate beyond 80% converts into ATK at 1:1 (up to +80% ATK bonus). This is a pivotal post-Novaflare trace — it rewards investing in Effect Hit Rate beyond the debuff threshold by simultaneously boosting Welt’s damage output. Aim for at least 80% EHR to cap this conversion
Welt Best Light Cones (4.3)
1. In the Name of the World (Best in Slot – Signature)
Welt’s signature Light Cone and his best overall option. It increases DMG dealt to debuffed enemies by 24–40%, and when using his Skill, provides a bonus Effect Hit Rate of 18–30% and ATK bonus of 24–40% for that attack. Since debuffed enemies are Welt’s constant target and his Skill is his primary action, both parts of this cone are active on almost every single action he takes. The Skill EHR bonus also helps reach the A6 Punishment threshold more reliably. A clean, well-designed package for his kit.
2. Along the Passing Shore (Best DPS Option)
Provides CRIT DMG and applies Mirage Fizzle on hit, increasing DMG to the affected target by 24–40%. When the wearer uses their Ultimate, the DMG increase is further amplified. Welt’s DPS-focused players prefer this cone for maximising his personal damage output. Slightly behind the signature for team-wide utility, but the best option if your goal is maximising Welt’s own numbers.
3. Boundless Choreo (Strong Alternative)
Increases Effect Hit Rate by 60–100% and, after the wearer uses any attack against an enemy target, has a 60% base chance to inflict Unarmored — reducing enemy DEF. Helps Welt comfortably hit the 80% EHR threshold for A6 Punishment while also applying a third debuff that benefits teammates who scale with debuff count (such as Dr. Ratio). An excellent support-oriented alternative if you don’t have the signature.
4. Good Night and Sleep Well (4-Star – Best Budget)
For every debuff on the target, the wearer’s DMG increases by 12–24%, stacking up to 3 times. Since Welt applies multiple debuffs simultaneously — Slow, Imprisonment, Weightless, and the A2 DMG vulnerability — this cone consistently reaches or exceeds 2 stacks, providing a meaningful DMG boost. Accessible from the standard banner, usable from the start, and scales well with Welt’s debuff-heavy playstyle.
5. Resolution Shines As Pearls of Sweat (4-Star)
After attacking enemies, has a 100% base chance to inflict Ensnared, which reduces their DEF by up to 16% at S5. A third debuff source that synergises with Dr. Ratio’s follow-up condition and Pioneer Diver’s 3-debuff threshold. A functional F2P pick that leans into Welt’s multi-debuff role.
Welt Best Relic Sets (4.3)
Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters (4-Piece) – Best Flexible Option
The recommended relic set for Welt post-Novaflare in most team contexts. The 2-piece gives +12% DMG against debuffed enemies, which is always active since Welt always has Slow, Imprisonment, or Weightless on enemies. The 4-piece gives +4% CRIT Rate and +8–12% CRIT DMG against enemies with 2 or more debuffs — doubled on the turn Welt applies a new debuff. Since Welt applies debuffs on nearly every action, the doubled bonus triggers frequently and the 3-debuff CRIT DMG cap is easily met. Works across all team compositions regardless of element.
Wastelander of Banditry Desert (4-Piece) – Best Imaginary-Specific
The best relic set for Welt specifically in Imaginary-weak content or teams with Welt as the primary damage dealer. The 2-piece gives +10% Imaginary DMG. The 4-piece gives +10% CRIT Rate against debuffed enemies and +20% CRIT DMG against Imprisoned enemies. Welt’s Ultimate guarantees Imprisonment on all enemies, activating the CRIT DMG bonus immediately on every post-Ultimate hit. This set has a higher personal damage ceiling than Pioneer Diver in ideal conditions but is less flexible in off-element content.
Pioneer Diver (2) + Pan-Cosmic Commercial Enterprise (2)
A transitional alternative. The 2-piece Pioneer provides DMG against debuffed targets, and the 2-piece Pan-Cosmic gives +10% Effect Hit Rate plus an ATK boost based on EHR. A clean combination that covers both Welt’s damage and debuff reliability. Use this as a setup while farming a full 4-piece set.
Welt Best Planar Ornaments (4.3)
Pan-Cosmic Commercial Enterprise (Best Support Build)
The recommended Planar Ornament for support-focused Welt. It gives +10% Effect Hit Rate and converts up to 25% of his current EHR directly into ATK. With Welt targeting 80%+ EHR, this ornament adds both debuff reliability and a meaningful ATK bonus simultaneously — directly feeding the A6 Punishment conversion. A well-designed choice that suits his post-Novaflare kit perfectly.
Firmament Frontline: Glamoth (DPS Build at 160 SPD)
Provides ATK% and a large DMG% bonus when the wearer’s SPD reaches 135 or 160. At 160 SPD the full bonus activates — a very meaningful damage increase. This is the highest-ceiling ornament for Welt when built as a damage dealer in a team that can provide action advance or speed buffs to push him past 160. Requires more investment to activate reliably, but rewards it.
Space Sealing Station (Accessible Alternative)
Gives ATK% with an additional ATK% bonus when SPD reaches 120. The 120 threshold is easy to meet, making this a clean ATK ornament with no awkward build requirements. Use it if neither Glamoth nor Pan-Cosmic pieces have competitive substats.
Welt Best Stats and Substats (4.3)
Main Stats
- Body: CRIT Rate or Effect Hit Rate (depending on build)
- Boots: SPD
- Planar Sphere (Orb): Imaginary DMG Boost
- Link Rope: ATK% (standard) or Energy Regeneration Rate (for tighter Ultimate cycling)
Substat Priority
- Effect Hit Rate (reach 80% to activate A6 Punishment ATK conversion cap — highest priority)
- SPD (reach 134 at minimum; push to 160 if running Glamoth)
- CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG (once EHR threshold is met)
- ATK% and Flat ATK
The most important build change post-Novaflare: prioritise 80% Effect Hit Rate before anything else. The A6 Punishment trace converts excess EHR into up to +80% ATK — at 80% EHR, this adds a very significant flat ATK bonus that amplifies every hit Welt lands. Beyond 80% EHR the conversion caps, so focus remaining substats on CRIT and ATK. Unlike older Welt builds that treated EHR as purely a utility stat, post-Novaflare EHR is simultaneously a utility AND damage stat.
Welt Best Team Compositions (4.3)
Best Team: Acheron, Welt, Jiaoqiu, Aventurine
The most powerful context for Welt in 4.3. Acheron requires debuffs from Nihility teammates to generate Slashed Dream stacks. Welt applies multiple debuffs per action — Slow, Imprisonment, Weightless, and the A2 DMG vulnerability — each of which can contribute to Acheron’s counter independently. Jiaoqiu provides Ashen Roast stacks and Ultimate DMG vulnerability. Aventurine sustains with shields and follow-up attacks that hit Weightless enemies repeatedly, stacking the Retribution vulnerability. This team demolishes endgame content.
Acheron Support: Acheron, Welt, Pela, Aventurine/Gallagher
A more accessible Acheron team. Pela provides DEF shred and reliable debuff application, with Welt covering the second Nihility slot. Both apply debuffs that feed Acheron’s Slashed Dream and both have strong utility for the team. Gallagher sustains if Aventurine is unavailable. A solid team that does not require Jiaoqiu.
Dr. Ratio Team: Dr. Ratio, Welt, Moze/Topaz, Aventurine
Welt is one of the best supports for Dr. Ratio because Ratio’s follow-up attacks require 3 or more debuffs on the target. Welt reliably provides 2–3 debuffs alone (Slow, Imprisonment, Weightless), and with Moze or Topaz adding a third from their Prey/Debt marks, the Ratio follow-up condition is near-permanently met. Welt’s Weightless delay further protects Dr. Ratio by limiting enemy turns.
Welt Hypercarry: Welt, Ruan Mei, Sunday/Sparkle, Sustain
For players who want Welt as the primary DPS. Ruan Mei provides Break Efficiency and DMG amplification — Welt’s A6 Punishment trace gives him 20% more DMG against Weakness Broken enemies, and Ruan Mei extends those break windows with her SPD buff and delay. Sunday or Sparkle advance Welt’s actions for more Skill usage. He is hard to pilot in this role but rewarding when played well.
Other Characters Who Work Well With Welt
- Acheron – Best partner; Welt’s multiple debuffs stack her Slashed Dream efficiently
- Dr. Ratio – Welt provides 2–3 debuffs reliably, enabling Ratio’s follow-up on demand
- Silver Wolf – Imaginary Weakness implant synergises with Welt’s Imaginary DMG and Wastelander set
- Jiaoqiu – Stacks debuffs alongside Welt for Acheron or multi-debuff teams
- Black Swan – DoT synergy; Welt’s Slow and Weightless count as debuffs for her Arcana stacks
- Pela – Free DEF shred to pair with Welt’s DMG vulnerability for a strong debuff foundation
- Kafka – Welt’s Slow and Weightless create conditions for more DoT detonations
- Ruan Mei – Extends break windows and amplifies Welt’s A6 break DMG bonus
Welt Eidolons – Are They Worth It?
As a standard banner character, Welt accumulates Eidolons naturally over time. Like Gepard, chasing his Eidolons specifically is inefficient — focus on what arrives naturally from standard pulls.
E1 – Legacy of Honor
After using his Ultimate, the next 2 Basic ATKs or Skill uses deal additional DMG equal to 50% of his Basic ATK multiplier or 80% of his Skill multiplier respectively. A clean post-Ultimate damage boost that rewards using the Skill immediately after the Ultimate. Solid quality-of-life.
E2 – Conflux of Stars
When his Talent triggers, Welt regenerates 3 Energy. Since the Talent fires on every Slowed enemy hit, and his Skill hits up to 3 targets per use, this can generate up to 9 Energy per Skill use. A very meaningful passive Energy source that noticeably tightens his Ultimate cycling. Prydwen and Mobalytics both identify E2 as one of Welt’s most impactful Eidolons post-Novaflare.
E4 – Appellation of Justice
The base chance for Skill to inflict SPD reduction increases by 35% (effectively making Slow near-guaranteed from 75%). Reliable Slow application means the Talent fires consistently on every hit. Also post-Novaflare, E4 adds that Weightless enemies have their All-Type RES reduced — a powerful team-wide DMG amplification layer that activates on every hit after his Ultimate. Mobalytics rates E4 as impactful post-Novaflare due to the RES reduction.
E6 – Prospect of Glory
Post-Novaflare E6 now gives Welt +30% CRIT Rate and +60% CRIT DMG when using Skill or Ultimate to hit Slowed enemies. Extremely powerful personal damage boost that turns Welt into a serious DPS threat. For players who want to run Welt as a primary damage dealer, E6 is transformative.
Recommended approach: take E2 and E4 if they arrive naturally. E0 Welt post-Novaflare is already a strong character. E2 noticeably improves his energy loop. E4 adds meaningful RES reduction to his Weightless application. E6 is exciting for dedicated Welt mains.
Welt Rotation Guide
Welt’s rotation is straightforward but rewards timing awareness:
- Use the Technique before combat — guaranteed Imprisonment on all enemies at battle start
- On the first turn, use Skill to apply Slow on primary and adjacent targets. Talent fires on Slowed enemies, dealing bonus damage on each hit
- Continue using Skill as the primary action most turns — it applies Slow, generates Energy from hits and Talent procs, and deals excellent total damage once enemies are Slowed
- Use Ultimate when 120 Energy is reached — Imprisonment delays all enemies, Weightless activates, and A4 returns 10 Energy immediately. Use Skill on the following turn to capitalise on the E1 bonus if available
- Maintain Slow uptime — the Talent’s bonus DMG and action delay are your most powerful tools. Slowed + Weightless + Imprisoned enemies can barely act
- After the Ultimate, Weightless enemies take increasing DMG from Retribution (A2) with each hit — coordinate attacks with high-frequency teammates like follow-up attackers to stack this quickly
The most common mistake with Welt is using Basic ATK when you should be using Skill. His Skill is the engine of his kit — every hit on a Slowed enemy is both significant damage and ongoing control. Only use Basic ATK when SP conservation for teammates is absolutely critical.

Is Welt Worth Using in Patch 4.3?
Yes — and more so than at any point since the game launched. Welt’s Version 4.2 Novaflare buffs are substantial. The new Weightless debuff is genuinely powerful: it compounds on top of Slow and Imprisonment to create one of the most aggressive action delay loops in the game, and the post-Novaflare Talent now reduces Weightless enemies’ action progress by 40% and their SPD by 5% on top of everything else. His A6 Trace now makes EHR investment directly scale his damage. His Talent’s bonus damage jumped from 75% to 125% ATK. This is not a cosmetic refresh — it is a real power upgrade.
He remains a challenging character to play optimally. Prydwen is candid about this: Welt’s toolkit is rich, his rotations require forethought, and his Bounce Skill is occasionally inconsistent in AoE. But for players willing to invest time in learning him, the payoff is a uniquely versatile character who excels at battlefield control, feeds debuff-reliant DPS characters, and deals competitive personal damage — all from the standard banner, for free over time.
