TL;DR
- Rush Over An Edge is a TacSim objective in Advanced Close Combat Training Tier 2.
- An edge is an open drop with no railing — not a ledge or waist-high wall.
- Hold R2 on PlayStation or RT on Xbox and do not let go at any point.
- Bond must go over the drop with the enemy — not throw them over while staying on the platform.
- Use the very first enemy in Tier 2 for the easiest and cleanest setup.
Rush Over An Edge in 007 First Light is one of the most confusing mechanics in the entire game. The objective appears in Advanced Close Combat Training Tier 2 inside TacSim, and almost every player gets stuck on it for the same reason — the wording is genuinely misleading. Most people keep grabbing enemies and throwing them off railings, watching Bond politely stop at the edge every single time, and wondering if the game is broken. It is not broken. The problem is the difference between an edge and a ledge, and once that clicks, the whole thing takes about ten seconds. This guide explains exactly what to do, what to avoid, and where to do it.
What Is the Rush Over An Edge Mechanic
Rush is a grab mechanic in 007 First Light. When you hold R2 on PlayStation or RT on Xbox, Bond grabs a nearby enemy and carries them forward in a controlled rush. The direction you move determines where you and the enemy go together. It is different from a standard throw, which tosses the enemy while Bond stays in place.
The Rush Over An Edge objective specifically requires Bond to carry the enemy off an open drop and fall with them. Both Bond and the enemy have to go over together. If Bond stops at the edge and flings the enemy forward, the game registers that as a throw — not a Rush Over An Edge — and the objective will not complete.
Edge vs Ledge — The Key Difference
This is the exact point that confuses almost everyone. In 007 First Light, the game treats these two things completely differently:
- A ledge is a railing, a waist-high wall, or any barrier at the edge of a drop. Running an enemy into a ledge causes Bond to automatically throw them over it while he stays on the platform. This does not count as Rush Over An Edge.
- An edge is an open, unobstructed drop with nothing in the way. No railing, no wall, no barrier of any kind. Running Bond and the enemy straight off an open edge causes both of them to fall together. This is what the objective wants.
If the objective is not triggering, the drop you are using almost certainly has a railing or low wall in front of it. Move to a completely open gap and try again.
How to Rush Over An Edge — Step by Step
Step 1 — Find an Open Edge With No Railing

Before you do anything, identify a clean drop point in the TacSim arena. Look for an open gap where the floor simply ends and there is nothing between you and the fall. Avoid any spot with a railing, fence, barrier, or waist-high wall — those will trigger a throw, not a Rush Over An Edge. The first enemy position in Advanced Close Combat Training Tier 2 works well because the nearby drop tends to be clean and open.
Step 2 — Get Behind or Near the Enemy
Position Bond close to the enemy you want to use. You do not need to approach from behind specifically, but having a little running distance helps you build momentum before the drop. A short approach — just two or three steps — is enough. You do not need to sprint from across the room.
Step 3 — Hold R2 or RT and Do Not Let Go

Press and hold R2 on PlayStation or RT on Xbox. Bond will grab the enemy and begin carrying them forward. The most important rule here is to keep the button held the entire time. Do not tap it, do not release it early, and do not try to throw mid-rush. Releasing the button at any point near the edge will cause Bond to stop and toss the enemy, which does not count.
Step 4 — Aim Bond’s Whole Body at the Drop
While holding the Rush button, steer directly toward the open edge. The key mental shift here is to stop thinking about pushing the enemy over the side and instead aim Bond himself at the drop. Point your movement straight forward off the edge, not at an angle. If you angle the Rush sideways, Bond may clip the edge awkwardly and stop short.
Step 5 — Go Over Together
Keep holding R2 or RT as Bond and the enemy reach the edge and fall off together. As soon as both characters drop, the objective registers and completes. It also counts as an instant takedown on the enemy, which doubles as the Soft Landing trophy or achievement if you have not already unlocked it.
Best Location to Do It in TacSim
The easiest and most reliable place to Rush Over An Edge is the first enemy you encounter in Advanced Close Combat Training Tier 2. He is almost directly ahead of you when you spawn in. The drop near his starting position tends to be open, and the setup is quick enough that you can get the objective done before the rest of the sim becomes messier with more enemies.
Use the first enemy, get behind him, hold Rush, and steer straight off the nearest open drop. Do not overthink it. The whole thing takes a few seconds once you know what you are looking for. If the first attempt fails, check whether the spot you used had a railing in front of it — that is the most common reason it does not register.
Why the Objective Keeps Failing
If you keep attempting this and the objective is not completing, one of these is almost certainly the reason:
- You are using a spot with a railing or wall — Bond throws the enemy over it instead of rushing with them.
- You released R2 or RT before Bond reached the edge — this converts the Rush into a throw.
- You are angling the Rush sideways rather than straight off the drop — Bond clips the edge and stops short.
- You are too close to the edge when you initiate the Rush — there is not enough momentum or space for both characters to carry through cleanly.
The fix for almost all of these is the same: find a completely open drop with no barrier, start the Rush from a short distance back, hold the button the full way, and aim Bond’s body straight at the gap.
What Is TacSim and Why Does It Matter
TacSim — short for Tactical Simulator — is 007 First Light’s training and challenge mode inside MI6. It unlocks at the end of Chapter 2 after you speak with Selina Tan, head of Tactical Simulation. Once unlocked, two escalations become available immediately: Advanced Tactical Training and Advanced Close Combat Training. The rest of TacSim’s missions unlock after completing the main campaign.
TacSim is split into two content types. Escalations are tiered challenge runs that increase in difficulty with each tier. Operations are standalone missions with specific modifiers called game changers that adjust the rules. Advanced Close Combat Training Tier 2, where the Rush Over An Edge objective lives, is one of the earliest Escalation tiers you will encounter.
Spending time in TacSim early is genuinely useful. It teaches parrying, sidestepping, grabs, and throw mechanics in a controlled environment where mistakes carry no real consequences. Mastering the Rush mechanic here makes it far easier to use in main missions when guards are nearby and stakes are higher. For the Classified Papers challenge inside TacSim, you can also earn a quick 1,000 Intel and 500 XP just by picking up the Classified Files on the desk near the mannequin head — no simulation required. See the 007 First Light Classified Papers Challenge guide for that.
Using the Rush Mechanic Outside of TacSim
The Rush move is not just a TacSim trick — it works in every combat encounter across the main campaign. Any open drop, window, or unrailed platform edge in a mission can be used the same way. Enemies near environmental hazards become much easier to deal with cleanly, and using the Rush counts as a takedown without firing a shot, which is useful for pacifist or ghost-run challenges in missions.
If you are working on upgrading your combat tools and loadout for missions where environmental kills come up regularly, the 007 First Light best gadget loadout guide covers what to bring. For mission-specific scenarios where the Rush mechanic can be used strategically — including the Webb Industries sections — the 007 First Light ID Bracelet in the Security Office guide is a good follow-up since that area has guards near drops that can be handled this way.
