007 First Light: How to Win the Shooting Range Challenge (Gunslinger & Shoot ‘Em Up)

TL;DR

  • The Shooting Range is in The Past Never Dies mission (Mission 4) inside the black market.
  • Head east through the yellow shipping container, then follow to the back left to find Basim.
  • It costs $3,000 to enter — pickpocket the soldier nearby if you need cash.
  • Shoot all 10 targets before they drop down. The last two appear at the same time — use Focus.
  • Beating it unlocks both the Gunslinger and Shoot ‘Em Up challenges and earns you $30,000.

The Shooting Range Challenge in 007 First Light is one of the most rewarding side activities in the entire game. It is tucked inside the black market during The Past Never Dies mission, and completing it unlocks two challenges at once — Gunslinger and Shoot ‘Em Up — while also handing you a tidy sum of money. This guide tells you exactly where to go, how to get in, and how to hit all 10 targets without missing a single one.

Available on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Epic Games Store, 007 First Light is developed by IO Interactive. You can learn more on the official IO Interactive site.

Where Is the Shooting Range in 007 First Light?

The Shooting Range is found during The Past Never Dies, which is the 4th mission with challenges in 007 First Light. This mission takes place in a large black market in Mauritania and has 23 total challenges — the most of any chapter in the game. When you first spawn into the market area, do this:

  • Head east from your starting position.
  • Look for a yellow shipping container and go inside.
  • Navigate past the truck stacked with weapons.
  • Continue to the back left of the market.
  • You will find Basim, who runs the shooting range.

It is a short walk once you know the layout. Do not rush past the container. That is the landmark you need.

How Much Does the Shooting Range Cost?

Basim charges $3,000 to enter the Shooting Range. If you are short on cash at this point in the mission, do not worry. There is an easy fix nearby.

Use your Q-Lens to scan the area and locate a soldier close to the yellow shipping container. The Q-Lens will highlight him as pickpocketable. All you need to do is distract him — fire a Phone Dart at him, and then steal the cash while he is occupied.

$3,000 is a small amount. If you have been collecting cash around the market already, you should already have it. Need more tips on making money fast? Check out our guide on how to collect 140K in the market.

Shooting Range Challenge: How to Hit All 10 Targets

Once you pay Basim and step up to the range, the challenge begins immediately. Targets pop up one by one, and you need to shoot each one before it drops back down.

There are 10 targets in total. They appear in a set order from left to right at both the front and back of the range. The key thing to know is this: the last two targets appear at the same time. This is the only tricky part.

Here is what to do for the final two:

  • Press L3 (PlayStation) or the equivalent on your platform to activate Focus just as the last pair appears.
  • Focus slows your perception slightly and makes it much easier to track and shoot both targets before they fall.
  • You do not need a headshot or precision aim — just hit them anywhere before they drop.

For the first eight targets, take your time. They appear one at a time and give you enough of a window to aim cleanly. Do not rush and do not panic-fire. Stay calm and shoot each one as it pops up.

Tips to Make Sure You Don’t Miss

  • Stay in the center of the shooting position so you can swing left and right quickly.
  • Keep your crosshair roughly center-screen between shots so you are never caught off guard.
  • Save Focus for the final pair — do not waste it early.
  • If you miss and fail, simply pay $3,000 again and try once more. There is no limit on attempts.

What Do You Unlock for Winning the Shooting Range?

Beat all 10 targets and Basim will — begrudgingly — hand over $30,000. That is a 10x return on your $3,000 entry fee, making it one of the best value activities in the market.

More importantly, completing the Shooting Range unlocks two challenges at the same time:

  • Gunslinger — Awarded for winning the Shooting Range.
  • Shoot ‘Em Up — Also awarded for beating the Shooting Range.

Two challenges, one activity. That makes the Shooting Range one of the most efficient stops in the entire mission.

How the Shooting Range Fits Into the Bigger Picture

The $30,000 you earn here goes toward the $100,000 auction entry fee required to progress the mission. You will need to gather the full amount before you can attend the Aleph auction and continue the story.

Other money-making activities in the market include the Fight Pit (which pays $60,000 for winning three bouts) and the Cup Game (which also pays $30,000 if you use the Q-Lens correctly). You can read our guide on how to win the Cup Game if you want help with that one too.

The Shooting Range is the fastest of the three. It takes less than two minutes once you know the target order, and the risk of failure is low compared to the Fight Pit. It is a smart first stop when you enter the market.

Can You Replay the Shooting Range?

Yes. If you miss the challenge or want to collect the $30,000 again on a replay, you can revisit this checkpoint using the chapter select system. See our guide on how to replay missions in 007 First Light for details on how chapter select works.

Collectibles and challenge completions carry over between saves, so you will not lose progress. Just load back into the relevant checkpoint for The Past Never Dies and head straight to Basim.
