All Blood Specimen Locations in RE9 — Care Center (Resident Evil Requiem)

TL;DR

  • There are 3 Blood Specimens in the Care Center on Casual and Standard difficulty — and a 4th exclusive to Insanity.
  • Blood Specimen (Denatured) — Blood Lab, East Wing. No wristband needed. Unlocks Handgun Ammo and Hemolytic Injectors.
  • Blood Specimen (Converged) — Waiting Room Closet, East Wing. Needs Level 1 ID Wristband. Unlocks Med Injectors and 12.7x55mm Ammo (Requiem Bullets).
  • Blood Specimen (Reversible) — Blood Lab locked side room. Needs Level 1 ID Wristband. Unlocks Steroids and Stabilizers.
  • Blood Specimen (Polymerized) — Insanity difficulty only. Same Waiting Room Closet. Unlocks R.I.P. Knife and Handgun Ammo x30.
  • Analyze every specimen at the Laser Microscope in the Blood Lab or the Office on the 3rd floor.
  • Do not miss these — there is no way to go back and collect them later in the same run.

Blood Specimens are one of the most important things to find in the Care Center. Each one you analyze unlocks a new set of crafting recipes for Grace. Miss them and those recipes are gone for the rest of your run. You cannot go back.

Grace’s entire crafting system is built around her Blood Collector and the Laser Microscope. She harvests Infected Blood from enemies and the environment, but that blood is useless without recipes. Blood Specimens give her those recipes. The more you find, the more options you have — better ammo, better healing, and permanent stat upgrades.

This guide covers every Blood Specimen location in the Care Center, how to reach each one, the puzzle solution for each, and exactly what crafting recipes each one unlocks.

How Blood Specimens Work in RE9

Grace runs a blood-based economy. She needs to analyze Blood Specimens on a laser microscope to unlock recipes, then physically harvest Infected Blood from the environment and corpses to craft anything. It is slow, deliberate, and punishing if you miss a specimen early on.

Blood Specimens can be analyzed at a machine in the Blood Lab, and there is another in the Office. When you analyze a Blood Specimen, you will look at connected atoms — some spherical and some cubes. You will be told the minimum number of steps required to analyze it successfully, as making too many wrong moves may make it more difficult. If you go wrong, just hit reset and try again. There is no penalty for resetting.

There are 3 Blood Specimens on Casual and Standard, and an extra fourth on Insanity. They are all found in the Care Center.

Blood Specimen 1 — Blood Specimen (Denatured)

Location

The Blood Specimen (Denatured) is located on the table near the Blood Analyzer inside the Blood Lab in the East Wing of the Care Center.

The Blood Lab is reached through the Examination Room that contains the organless corpse puzzle. This is the same area where you obtain the Blood Collector item, so most players will come across it during normal exploration. You do not need a wristband to get here. This is the first specimen you can collect and it is hard to miss.

For help in this area, see our guide on how to complete the Corpse Puzzle in the Examination Room.

Puzzle Solution

To solve the analysis mini-puzzle, press the middle cubic bond to activate all the atoms at once. This completes the sequence immediately. It is a one-step puzzle — the simplest one in the game.

What It Unlocks

  • Handgun Ammo crafting recipe
  • Hemolytic Injector crafting recipe

Hemolytic Injectors are the only reliable tool for instantly killing unaware enemies and preventing corpses from turning into Blister Heads. Prioritize crafting these early. They are quiet, efficient, and save bullets you will need later.

Blood Specimen 2 — Blood Specimen (Converged)

Location

The Blood Specimen (Converged) can be found inside the Closet in the Waiting Room on the East Wing. You will need to get the ID Wristband (Level 1) to unlock the office, which can be found on the dead researcher’s body on the 2nd floor of the East Wing, just past the Lead Researcher’s Office. Note that this is where you will encounter the Chunk boss fight, so either lure it away or kill it before getting the wristband.

See our guide on the Level 1 ID Wristband location if you need help finding it before heading to the Waiting Room Closet.

On Insanity difficulty, the Converged specimen is replaced by the Polymerized specimen in this same location. See the Insanity-exclusive section below for details.

Puzzle Solution

The minimum steps required for this puzzle is just two. On one side, there are three cube nodes connected together — select the middle cube. This will morph two nearby sphere nodes, but changing the second cube from the end of the chain will morph all remaining cubes back to spheres, completing the puzzle.

In short: click the top middle square first, then click the second square from the bottom. Two moves and it is done.

What It Unlocks

  • Med Injector crafting recipe
  • 12.7x55mm Ammo crafting recipe (Requiem Bullets)

This is one of the most valuable specimens in the game. The Requiem Bullets recipe alone makes this worth hunting down as soon as you get the Level 1 Wristband. For full details on crafting Requiem Bullets and what materials you need, see our how to get Requiem Bullets in RE9 guide.

Blood Specimen 3 — Blood Specimen (Reversible)

Location

The Blood Specimen (Reversible) is also found in the Blood Lab but is locked behind a security door that also requires the ID Wristband (Level 1).

Inside the storage room you get your first Empty Injector, some Scrap, a Green Herb, and the specimen itself. Do not skip this room. The Empty Injector alone is worth the detour, and the crafting recipes this specimen unlocks are permanent upgrades to Grace’s stats.

You analyze this specimen at the same Laser Microscope in the Blood Lab — it is right next to where you found the Denatured specimen.

Puzzle Solution

This puzzle has four required minimum steps. First, select the centre cube node, which will leave a cluster of three cubes in a corner that you can eliminate by selecting the centre cube node. You will be left with four cubes remaining, and you need to change to the corner cubes on each side that are not connected to the centre. The first corner change will leave you with just three connected cube nodes left, and one more change in the centre of those will complete the puzzle.

Follow this order: bottom-left corner square → middle square → top-right square → second square from the top. Four moves total.

What It Unlocks

  • Steroids crafting recipe
  • Stabilizers crafting recipe

Steroids and Stabilizers are permanent upgrades to Grace’s stats. Steroids increase Grace’s maximum health, and Stabilizers improve her aim. These are not consumables — they permanently boost her for the rest of the run. Analyze this specimen as early as possible and start crafting them whenever you have spare Empty Injectors.

Hold off on Steroids and Stabilizers until after you buy the Matsuoka Override Manual. Once you have that, the upgrades become more impactful. Until then, prioritize Hemolytic Injectors and Handgun Ammo to get through the Care Center safely.

Blood Specimen 4 — Blood Specimen (Polymerized) — Insanity Difficulty Only

Location

The Blood Specimen (Polymerized) is found inside the Waiting Room Closet next to the Pantry Key. This blood specimen is exclusive to Insanity difficulty. It replaces the Converged specimen in the same closet location that Standard and Casual players find the Converged one.

If you are playing on Insanity and need help with the Pantry area, see our guide on how to open the Pantry in RE9.

Puzzle Solution

The Polymerized puzzle solution requires three moves: click middle left, then middle right, then middle bottom. Three moves in the correct order and the puzzle is complete.

What It Unlocks

  • R.I.P. Knife crafting recipe
  • Handgun Ammo x30 crafting recipe

Analyzing the Blood Specimen (Polymerized) unlocks the ability to craft the R.I.P. Knife and Handgun Ammo x30. On Insanity difficulty, where resources are scarce and every fight is more dangerous, unlocking a 30-round handgun ammo craft is a significant advantage.

Where to Analyze Blood Specimens

There are two Laser Microscopes in the Care Center where you can analyze specimens:

  • Blood Lab — East Wing, through the Examination Room. This is where you find the Denatured and Reversible specimens. The analyzer is right there in the same room.
  • Office — 3rd Floor — The second Laser Microscope is located in the Office on the 3rd floor of the Care Center. Use this one if it is more convenient after picking up a specimen from the Waiting Room Closet.

You can analyze any specimen at either machine. Just walk up to the Laser Microscope, interact with it, and select the specimen from your inventory.

All Blood Specimens — Quick Reference

  • Blood Specimen (Denatured) — Blood Lab, East Wing. No wristband needed. One-step puzzle: click the center cube. Unlocks: Handgun Ammo, Hemolytic Injectors.
  • Blood Specimen (Converged) — Waiting Room Closet, East Wing (Level 1 Wristband needed). Two-step puzzle: top middle → second from bottom. Unlocks: Med Injector, 12.7x55mm Ammo. Standard/Casual only.
  • Blood Specimen (Reversible) — Blood Lab locked side room (Level 1 Wristband needed). Four-step puzzle: bottom-left → middle → top-right → second from top. Unlocks: Steroids, Stabilizers.
  • Blood Specimen (Polymerized) — Waiting Room Closet, East Wing (Insanity only). Three-step puzzle: middle left → middle right → middle bottom. Unlocks: R.I.P. Knife, Handgun Ammo x30.

Tips for Getting All Blood Specimens

  • Get the Level 1 Wristband as soon as you can. Two of the three standard specimens require it. The sooner you have it, the sooner you unlock better crafting options. See our Level 1 ID Wristband location guide for help.
  • Analyze the Denatured specimen first. It is the earliest one, requires no wristband, and unlocks Hemolytic Injectors — your best early-game tool for handling zombies quietly.
  • Do not leave the Blood Lab without checking the locked side room. The Reversible specimen is right there behind a Level 1 door. Once you have the wristband, go straight in and grab it along with the first Empty Injector.
  • Do not miss the Converged specimen before progressing. The Waiting Room Closet is easy to walk past if you are rushing through the East Wing. Slow down and check it. The Requiem Bullets recipe is locked behind this specimen.
  • Reset the puzzle if you make a wrong move. There is no penalty for resetting. If you are confused about which node to click, reset and follow the steps above carefully.
