The Sturdy Gatherables Chest in Crimson Desert is one of the best quality-of-life additions in the game. If your inventory is constantly full of ores, wood, herbs, and hides, this chest is the fix. It holds up to 1,000 materials and — this is the big part — crafting stations pull from it automatically. You don’t need to move anything into your backpack first.

What Is the Sturdy Gatherables Chest?
The Sturdy Gatherables Chest is a placeable storage container introduced in Patch 1.04.00. It’s designed specifically for crafting materials — anything that shows up in your Materials inventory tab qualifies. That includes ores, stones, hides, timber, fibers, herbs, insects, and similar gathered resources.
What makes it special is that crafting stations pull from the chest automatically when you’re nearby. So if you’ve got iron ore stashed in the chest, you can walk up to the blacksmith, start crafting, and it’ll use the ore directly. No need to transfer anything first. That alone makes it worth picking up as early as possible.
It was released alongside the Kuku Cooler (for food and ingredients) and the Collectibles Chest (for quest items and blueprints) as part of a broader storage overhaul in the 1.04.00 patch. If you haven’t grabbed the Enhanced Kuku Cooler yet, that’s worth doing at the same time.
Where to Buy the Sturdy Gatherables Chest
Head to Hernand and look for the Timberham Sawmill, which is southwest of Hernand Town. There’s a Furniture Shop NPC there who sells housing items. The Sturdy Gatherables Chest is listed in their inventory for 50 Silver Coins.
It’s a straightforward purchase — no quest required, no unlock condition. Just travel there, find the Furniture Shop merchant, and buy it.
Camp Discount
If you’ve leveled up your Howling Hill Camp, the Furniture Shop at camp sells the Sturdy Gatherables Chest at a reduced price of around 40–45 Silver Coins. How to Place the Sturdy Gatherables Chest
Once you’ve bought the chest, head back to your Home at the Howling Hill Camp. Your Home is east of the cliff — it unlocks during Chapter 3. Here’s how to place the chest:
- Enter your Home and press Start / Options to enter Build Mode
- Press Square (PS) / X (Xbox) to open the Placeable Items menu
- Select the Sturdy Gatherables Chest and place it wherever you like
- Exit Build Mode and interact with the chest to start storing materials
The chest takes up one floor tile and works just like a standard storage container when you interact with it. Once it’s down, any nearby crafting station will automatically pull from it during recipes.
How to Use the Sturdy Gatherables Chest
Using it is simple. Walk up to the chest and interact with it to open the storage menu. Move your gathered materials in — ores, hides, herbs, wood, and anything else in your Materials tab. From that point on, any crafting or refinement you do near the chest will use those materials directly.
It’s especially useful if you’re doing a lot of blacksmithing, alchemy, or camp upgrade work. Instead of juggling stacks of materials in your backpack, you can offload everything into the chest and free up your inventory for combat items, food, and loot.

What Materials Can Go in the Sturdy Gatherables Chest?
The chest accepts anything that falls under the gatherable materials category. That covers:
- Ores – iron, copper, gold, silver, and all other mining drops
- Wood and timber – from chopping trees and logging
- Hides and leather – from hunting animals
- Herbs and plants – foraging and gathering drops
- Fibers and cloth materials
- Insects and small gathered fauna
Items in the Materials inventory tab are the ones that go here. Food, quest items, weapons, and armor don’t go in this chest — those have their own dedicated storage solutions.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of It
- Buy it early. There’s no reason to wait. Even if you’re still in early-game, the chest immediately frees up inventory space that you can use for literally anything else.
- Get multiple chests. One chest gives 1,000 slots. Two gives 2,000. If you’re crafting at scale, a few chests side by side makes your home feel like a proper resource warehouse.

- Wardrobe – stores clothing and armor sets outside of regular storage
Each one is designed for a specific category. Together, they take a huge amount of clutter out of your backpack so you can actually carry the stuff that matters in the field. The Sturdy Gatherables Chest is the one most players will feel immediately since crafting materials tend to be the biggest inventory drain by far.
