The Sotdae of Bond in Crimson Desert is one of the more unusually named items in the game, but it does something straightforward. It is a bird feeder. Place it anywhere on the map, load it with food, and birds will come to it. Once a bird eats enough to reach 100 Trust, you can take it in as a pet.
Bird pets were added in patch 1.04. They loot nearby corpses like cats and dogs do, but they also perch on your arm when you stand still. There are over 30 breeds to collect, ranging from common sparrows all the way up to a legendary Phoenix.

How to Get the Sotdae of Bond
You cannot buy or craft the Sotdae of Bond. It is a quest reward. Specifically, you earn it by completing the Authorized Access section of the Trembling Woods faction quest for the Pororin Forest Guardians.
Here is how to start the quest:
- Travel to Florindale, located southeast of the Hernand Highlands, near the Unicorn Cliffs.
- Try to walk into the Pororin Village.
- You will be sleep-darted and knocked back. Do this three times.
- After the third attempt, a guardian named Arkin will appear and speak to you.
- Arkin will let you start the Trembling Woods quest properly.
- Progress through the quest and retrieve the Pororin Relic, which sits on top of a walking tree inside Pororin.
- Return the relic to Arkin. He will give you the Sotdae of Bond as your reward.
If you already completed the Trembling Woods quest before patch 1.04 launched, the Sotdae of Bond will have been added to your Private Storage chest automatically. You can find it at the Howling Hill camp. Check there first before redoing any quests.

How to Place and Use the Sotdae of Bond
Once you have it in your inventory, using the Sotdae of Bond is simple.
- PC: Select it in your inventory, then hold Ctrl and press R to place it.
- Controller: Select it in your inventory, then hold LB and press Y to place it.
Once placed, walk up to it and interact to fill the feeder with food. The feeder holds a large amount and keeps its food between sessions, so you can load it with multiple food types at once.
After loading it up, step back a short distance and wait. Birds will fly down on their own. You do not need to chase them or approach. Just be patient.
Each time a bird eats from the feeder, its Trust grows. Some birds reach 100 Trust in a single feeding session. Once Trust hits 100, walk up to the bird and select Take In to add it to your pet collection.
What Food to Put in the Sotdae of Bond
The food you load matters. Different birds prefer different foods, and food type also varies by region. As a general rule, buying food from local Grocers in each area works well, since birds tend to eat what is naturally found nearby.
- Small birds (Sparrows, Blue Jays): Prefer seeds, oats, and fruits.
- Medium birds (Crows, Hawks, Cuckoos, Falcons): Prefer insects and meat.
- Large birds (Eagles, Condors, Steppe Eagles, Gyrfalcons): Prefer meat and fish.
- Water birds (Seagulls, Loons, Geese, Terns): Prefer fish and insects.
Loading multiple food types at once is a good strategy. The feeder has a large capacity and you will attract a wider variety of birds that way. You can also use insects, oats, seeds, and fruits as general options when you are not sure what a region prefers.
Bird Locations by Region
The region where you place the Sotdae determines which birds appear. Placing the feeder in different parts of the world gives you access to completely different species.
Hernand / Greymane Camp Area
This region mostly attracts small and medium birds. Crows and Blue Jays are common here. Place the feeder near river edges or at low open areas close to the camp. Crows are one of the easiest birds to start with and a good way to learn the system before going for rarer species.
Mountain and Cliff Regions
Higher terrain is where you will find larger birds. Eagles, Sparrowhawks, and Condors all prefer elevated spots. Place the feeder on cliff edges or rocky outcrops in mountain zones to attract them. The Goldleaf Guildhouse area in Hernand is a confirmed spawn for Hawks.
Coastlines and Ports
Water birds spawn near rivers, ports, and coastlines. Demeniss Port is a reliable location for Seagulls and Crows. Load the feeder with fish or insects when placing it here. Other water birds like Loons, Smews, Terns, and Plovers also appear in these zones.
Delesyia Region (Nighttime)
Owls only come out at night. If you want to tame an Owl, head to Delesyia and set up around 4 AM in-game time. Cliff edges south of Scholastone Institute and Three-Brothers’ Cliff are documented spawn points.
Crimson Desert / Trader’s Expanse
This region is the only place to find desert-exclusive birds such as Desert Geese, Sand Grouse, and Pigeons. It is also where you will find the legendary Phoenix. How Bird Pets Work After Taming
Bird pets join the same pet system as cats and dogs. Once tamed, they automatically loot nearby corpses during combat, which makes them genuinely useful companions rather than just cosmetic collectibles.
There are a couple of key differences compared to ground-based pets:
- Birds cannot wear pet armor or accessories like cats and dogs can.
- Birds will perch on your arm when you stand still for a while, which is a nice visual touch.
- Taming birds is generally faster than taming cats and dogs, since Trust builds up quickly with each feeding.

How to Recover a Lost Sotdae of Bond
The Sotdae of Bond can disappear from your inventory if you walk too far away from a placed feeder without picking it up. Do not worry. It is not gone permanently.
When this happens, the game automatically moves it to the recoverable items system. To get it back:
- Travel to Greymane Camp in Howling Hills.
- Speak to Carl, the Provisions Keeper.
- Select Manage Provisions, then choose Recover Items.
- You will see the Sotdae of Bond listed there. Buy it back for 1 Silver Coin.
Always pick up your Sotdae before leaving an area. On PC, hold Ctrl and face the feeder to bring up the pickup command. On controller, hold L1 and face it.
Tips for Taming Birds Faster
- Start with Crows or Sparrows. They are the easiest birds to attract and will help you get familiar with the system before hunting rarer species.
- Load the feeder with multiple food types to attract a wider variety of birds in any given session.
- Once you tame one bird, you can immediately place the feeder again and start on the next. The same location can attract more than one species over time.
- Buy food from local Grocers in each region. Birds prefer food sources they know from their habitat.
- For Owls, make sure you are playing at nighttime in Delesyia. They will not appear during the day.
