Trembling Woods Puzzle Solution in Crimson Desert
TL;DR
- The Trembling Woods puzzle is a Mysterious Energy location north of Willow River in Hernand
- Your goal is to align a three-layer mural using three levers — right, middle, and left
- The left lever has no handle — use Stab (Shift + RMB on PC / RB + Triangle/Y on controller) to turn it
- Stab is unlocked by default — no Abyss Artifact required to use it
- After solving, drop down below the mural to grab the Abyss Cresset and your Abyss Artifact
- Completing this puzzle counts toward the “Mystery in the Forest” regional challenge
The Abyss Cresset of the Trembling Woods is one of the Mysterious Energy locations scattered across Pywel in Crimson Desert. It shows up on your map as a white circle with a question mark. When you get close, you will see a large mural on a stone wall and three levers. It looks complicated, but the logic is straightforward once you know what each lever does.
This guide covers the exact location, how to deal with the bears, every lever step, the PC and controller controls, and what to do after you solve it. If you want a broader look at the game, check our Crimson Desert review.
Trembling Woods Puzzle Location in Crimson Desert

The Trembling Woods Mysterious Energy puzzle is located north of Willow River, in the southeast part of the starting Hernand area. It sits on the border between the Hernand and Demeniss regions. Two Abyss Nexus fast travel points are close by, so if you have unlocked those waypoints already, you can get there quickly.
If you have not set up fast travel yet, our guide on how to fast travel in Crimson Desert will help.

Deal With The Bears First
Two bears guard the puzzle and will interrupt you mid-solve if you ignore them. These bears hit hard, especially if you find this area early.
The easiest method is to pull one bear away from the group, defeat it alone, then come back for the second. Trying to fight both at once is risky.
Force Palm is excellent here. It knocks bears down and stuns them for a few seconds, giving you free damage windows — the same technique that works well in other tough fights like Marni’s Excavatron.
Come prepared. Bring healing food and check your gear before engaging. Our best early build guide and how to get better equipment guide will help if you are struggling. Also see how to cook the best healing food to stock up before entering the area.
What Each Lever Does
Before solving the puzzle, it helps to understand the three layers of the mural and what each lever controls:
- Right lever — rotates the background mural layer, which has the white symbol patterns
- Middle lever — moves the large metal ring overlay
- Left lever — controls the two smaller metal rings
Your goal is to align all three layers so the metal rings sit perfectly over the matching circle patterns on the mural underneath.
How To Solve The Trembling Woods Puzzle In Crimson Desert

Step 1 — Right Lever
- Walk to the right lever
- Rotate it until the white symbols on the background mural align with the center of the contraption
- You are looking for a large star shape in the top right, a small moon near the bottom, and a medium eclipse symbol to the left
- Let go once they line up

Step 2 — Middle Lever
- Move to the middle lever
- Rotate it until the large metal ring sits over the large star symbol in the top right of the mural
- Let go once it is aligned
Step 3 — Left Lever (Broken Handle)
This is the step where most players get stuck. The left lever has no handle at all. You cannot turn it normally.
Here is the fix:
- Walk up to the left lever stem
- Use the Stab skill to plunge your sword into the wood — this turns your weapon into a makeshift handle
- PC: Press Shift + Right Mouse Button
- Controller: Press RB + Triangle (PlayStation) / RB + Y (Xbox)
- Rotate until the two smaller metal rings align over the moon and eclipse symbols on the left side of the mural
Important: Stab is unlocked by default for all players. You do not need to spend an Abyss Artifact on the skill tree to use it. If you are curious about how skills work, check our guide on how to get skill points in Crimson Desert.
This is the same Stab mechanic used in the Halssius Conflux Puzzle, so if you have already solved that one, this will feel familiar.
What Happens After You Solve It
Once all three layers are aligned correctly, you will hear a loud rumble and the water nearby will drain. A small door opens in the gap below the mural.
Do not leave yet. Drop down below the mural into the now-drained area. You will see a stone glowing blue in the dark. Interact with it to activate the Abyss Cresset and collect your rewards. It is easy to miss this step — many players solve the puzzle and walk away empty-handed.
Trembling Woods Ruins Puzzle Rewards and Completion

- An Abyss Artifact — used to upgrade gear and unlock skills. See our guide on how to open sealed Abyss Artifacts for what to do with it
- A new fast travel waypoint at this Abyss Cresset location
