TL;DR
- The Dragon Stone Chamber is a Mysterious Zone in Hernand Highlands, north of Thinker’s Meadow — look for a large hole in the ground with a painted door inside.
- Before entering, use Blinding Light to burn the foliage blocking the door, then push it open.
- Inside, rotate three stone dials to match symbols found on cliff walls at Anvil Hill Riverside Terrace (southeast of Hernand City).
- The mural map on the chamber wall is rotated compared to your in-game map — this is the main trick that confuses players.
- Dial 1: Sun and Moon symbol (tree-like, sun and moon at the top)
- Dial 2: Animal/Horse Legs symbol (head upright, feet pointing down)
- Dial 3: Pincer/Bacteria symbol (the “hand” or gear arm pointing left)
- Rewards: Abyss Artifact (skill point) + Memories of Abundance (unlocks 7 hidden locations across Hernand) + fast travel point
- Budget 30–60 minutes — finding all three clue locations requires crossing the region.
The Dragon Stone Chamber is one of Crimson Desert’s earliest and most involved puzzles. It doesn’t just ask you to interact with something in the room. It asks you to leave, explore the surrounding region, find three hidden symbols carved into cliff walls, remember their exact orientations, then come back and recreate those positions on three rotating stone dials.
Most players get stuck at the mural step. The map on the chamber wall is deliberately rotated relative to your in-game map — which sends people searching in the wrong directions. This guide covers every step from finding the chamber to collecting your rewards.

Dragon Stone Chamber Location in Crimson Desert
The Dragon Stone Chamber sits in the Hernand Highlands, north of Thinker’s Meadow. On your map, look for the large Mysterious Zone question mark in that area — the chamber entrance is just southeast of it.

More specific landmarks:
- South of Thinker’s Meadow
- West of Unicorn Cliff and the Nas River
- North of the main Hernand Highlands area
The entrance isn’t a traditional doorway. You’re looking for a large crater or hole in the ground with a stone wall and painted door visible at the bottom. You can fall into it by accident if you’re moving fast near the cliffs. Alternatively, approach from above using Kliff’s flight ability to glide down directly.
Once inside the crater, you’ll see a brightly painted wall with a door mural carved into the rock face.
How to Enter the Dragon Stone Chamber
Before you can push the door open, there’s a step most guides rush past.

Use Blinding Light to burn the foliage first.
The door is surrounded by dry leaves and overgrowth that physically blocks you from pushing it. Equip your sword and activate the Blinding Light skill — this concentrates light on Kliff’s blade and creates fire sparks. Aim it at the foliage around the door and burn it away.
Once the leaves are cleared, walk up to the door and push it. Hold the interact/push input and the stone slab will grind open, revealing the interior of the ruins.
If you haven’t unlocked Blinding Light yet and are working through the early chapters, check our Crimson Desert all main story quests and chapters guide to see where it falls in progression.
The Memory Fragment — Sword of the Cursed

Before touching anything inside, raise Kliff’s lantern near the entrance. You’ll sense a Memory Fragment here called Sword of the Cursed Memory.
Equip your Visione helmet and watch it play out. It shows a short scene of people arguing about what’s inside the chamber — one believes there’s a powerful weapon, another insists it’s filled with gold. Neither is right.
The memory is not required to solve the puzzle. It’s pure lore. But it’s worth watching since it adds character to the location and ties into Crimson Desert’s broader world-building. If you haven’t yet unlocked Visione, it becomes available during the quest chain just before the Reunion quest. See our Crimson Desert Reunion Quest walkthrough for context.
Inside the Dragon Stone Chamber — What You’re Looking At
Once inside, you’ll find a room with:

- A dragon head statue mounted above a sealed back door
- A circular stone basin in the middle with three rotating dials (wheels)
- A large mural painted on the wall showing a map of the Hernand region
The three dials are what you need to solve. Each one has a unique symbol carved into it. You need to rotate each dial to match the correct orientation — but the correct positions aren’t written anywhere in the room. You have to find them out in the world.
The Critical Trick — The Mural Is Rotated
The mural on the wall is a bird’s-eye topographic map of Hernand Highlands. It shows rivers, terrain features, and structures. Most importantly, it has three red check marks painted on it — these mark the cliff locations where the dial solution symbols can be found.
Here’s the part that fools most players: the mural is rotated roughly 90 degrees compared to your normal in-game map orientation. The large circular building cluster you see on the right side of the mural is actually Halssius’s House of Healing — which sits to the southeast of the chamber in the actual game world. The river you see flowing downward on the mural flows north-south in-game.
Once you reorient your mental map to account for this rotation, the red check marks will point you to the Anvil Hill Riverside Terrace — a cliff-face area southeast of Hernand City, on the road toward Halssius’s House of Healing.
All 3 Clue Locations — Anvil Hill Riverside Terrace
All three symbol clues are carved into the cliff walls of Anvil Hill. The area is called the Anvil Hill Riverside Terrace and it sits to the southeast of Hernand City. If you’re coming from Hernand, follow the road toward Halssius’s House of Healing — the cliffs will be on your left.
Budget time to collect all three in one trip. The second and third clues are close together, so once you find the first, the others are nearby.
Clue 1 — Sun and Moon Symbol (Dial 1)
Location: Southern cliff face of Anvil Hill, at the Anvil Hill Riverside Terrace
Look for the first stone wall carving on the southern cliff face. The symbol shows a vertical composition — a tree-like shape with what resembles a sun and moon positioned at the upper portion. This matches Dial 1 in the chamber. Note the exact rotation: the sun and moon should be at the top when correctly aligned.
There is also a fast travel Abyss point nearby — use it as a navigation anchor when looking for this clue.
Clue 2 — Horse Legs / Animal Symbol (Dial 2)
Location: Northeast of Clue 1, follow the cliff wall to the right
Continue along the cliff wall to the northeast. The second engraving shows an animal-like figure — most players describe it as horse legs. The critical orientation detail is that the head of the figure should be upright and the feet or lower portion pointing down when correctly set on Dial 2.
Clue 3 — Pincer / Bacteria Symbol (Dial 3)
Location: Further northeast from Clue 2, still on the same cliff wall
The third clue is nearby Clue 2 — keep heading northeast along the same rock face. This symbol resembles a pincer or bacteria-like shape with an extending arm or “hand.” When set correctly on Dial 3, the hand/arm should point to the left side of the disc.
Pro tip: Take a screenshot of each symbol before leaving. The exact rotation matters, and trying to recreate positions from memory back at the chamber is the most common reason players fail the puzzle on their second attempt. A quick photo on your phone works fine.
How to Solve the Puzzle — Rotating the Three Dials
Return to the Dragon Stone Chamber with your three clue orientations in mind.
Walk up to the central basin with the three dials. Interact with each disc to grab it. Once you have a grip, use your movement stick or directional keys to rotate the disc.
Set each dial to match the symbol orientation you found on the cliff walls:
| Dial | Symbol Name | Correct Orientation |
|---|---|---|
| Dial 1 | Sun and Moon | Tree shape with sun and moon at the top |
| Dial 2 | Animal / Horse Legs | Head upright, feet/lower portion pointing down |
| Dial 3 | Pincer / Bacteria | Arm or “hand” pointing to the left |
There’s no progress indicator. The only feedback you get is visual — you’ll see the symbol lining up as you rotate. When all three are correct, the sealed back door under the dragon head statue will open automatically. No button press needed.
If the door doesn’t open, one of the three dials is still slightly off. Go back through each one and double-check its alignment against your screenshots.
Rewards for Solving the Dragon Stone Chamber
Once the door opens, head through and interact with the Abyss Cresset inside.
You’ll receive three things:
1. Abyss Artifact (Skill Point) A single Abyss Artifact you can invest into Kliff’s skill tree. For how to spend these wisely, see our how to open Sealed Abyss Artifacts in Crimson Desert guide.
2. Memories of Abundance This is the most unique reward. It’s a consumable item — equip it and use it immediately from your inventory. When activated, it reveals seven hidden knowledge pieces and points of interest across the Hernand region on your map. These include caves, ruins, and exploration spots you might otherwise never find. GamesRadar notes it’s especially useful for discovering hidden areas in Hernand that don’t appear on the map by default.
3. Fast Travel Point The Abyss Cresset activates as a fast travel waypoint for the Dragon Stone Chamber location. Useful for returning to this part of Hernand Highlands quickly. For full fast travel setup across Pywel, see our how to fast travel in Crimson Desert guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I skip finding the clue locations and just guess the dial positions? Yes. If you already know the correct orientations from this guide, you can go directly to the dials and skip the clue hunt entirely. The puzzle does not require you to physically visit the cliff walls first.
Do I need to use Blinding Light specifically, or can I use another fire skill? Blinding Light is the most reliable option for burning the foliage. If you have other fire-based skills unlocked, they may also work — but Blinding Light is what the game’s hint points toward.
Does the mural trick affect anything else in the game? Yes. The rotated map mechanic appears in other ruins and puzzles in Crimson Desert. Anytime you see a mural showing the game world, consider that it may not match your in-game map orientation exactly. This is intentional environmental design from Pearl Abyss.
What’s the difference between this and the Abyss Without Balance puzzle? The Abyss Without Balance puzzle involves cell manipulation to unlock Kliff’s wings and is a main story quest. The Dragon Stone Chamber is an optional Mysterious Zone challenge with no story requirement.
