Where to Find Marni’s Excavatron in Crimson Desert

Marni’s Excavatron is located in the Karin Quarry in the Hernand region. This encounter is tied to the House Roberts faction questline. The boss appears once you have cleared out all enemies inside the quarry.

Make sure you activate the nearby Axis Nexus before jumping into the boss arena. This saves you a long run back if things go wrong.

How to Prepare for Marni’s Excavatron

Do not walk into this fight underprepared. Here is what you should sort out first.

Get better gear. You can get solid armor sets early in the game. Use sets like the Bolton armor set, which you can purchase from Haldwin at the Hernand Contribution Shop, or the Canta armor set from Rhett at the Equipment Shop. Better armor makes a real difference here. For more help, read our guide on how to get better equipment in Crimson Desert.

Bring food. Crimson Desert lets you pause fights, eat something to restore health, then carry on. Cook some meals before entering. Our guide on how to cook the best healing food in Crimson Desert will help you stock up fast.

Level up Force Palm. This is the most important prep step of all. More on that below.

Upgrade your stats. Increasing your overall health and spirit prevents getting one-shot by the boss and lets you use more skills more often. Check our guides on how to increase your attack level and how to increase your defense level for quick stat boosts.

Best Skills for Marni’s Excavatron

Force Palm (Level 3 — Most Important)

There is one key to easily beating this boss: unlock Level 3 Force Palm to get the Expertise node. This allows you to perform three consecutive Force Palms. On the third strike, you will hear a loud thonk sound and the Excavatron will stagger into a stunned state. That is your window to land a full combo safely.

You get this ability while completing the Abyss Without Balance quest. If you have not done that yet, our guide on the Abyss Without Balance puzzle solution can help you get there fast.

Evasive Roll

This skill lets you dodge immediately after taking a hit. It is crucial for avoiding getting locked into the boss attack animation and taking a chain of deadly hits in a row.

Blinding Flash

Use Blinding Flash on the boss right as it begins its underground dig attack to short-circuit and stun it. This is a solid alternative if you have not yet unlocked Force Palm Level 3. Read more in our how to use Blinding Flash guide.

How to Beat Marni’s Excavatron — Step by Step

Step 1: Clear The Arena First

It helps to clear most of the enemies in the quarry before triggering the boss. Leaving one enemy alive can sometimes prevent more from spawning. A cleaner arena means fewer distractions when the Excavatron appears.

Step 2: Use Force Palm To Create Stun Windows

Keep your distance and wait for a safe opening. The Excavatron telegraphs most of its attacks by walking forward with its drill arms extended. Block with your shield if it closes in on you.

When you have an opening, execute three consecutive Force Palms. On the third strike, you will hear a loud impact sound and the Excavatron will stagger. This is your damage window — land a full melee combo while the boss is immobilized.

Note that Force Palm costs 5 Spirit per use. Make sure you have enough Spirit by killing enemies, parrying attacks, or using your Focus skill before going in.

Step 3: Back Off After Each Combo

Manage your spacing between each damage window. After attacking, create distance and wait for your next opportunity. If you have Focus available, use it to recover Spirit and prepare for another Force Palm combo. Staying too close the entire time will get you hit.

Step 4: Handle The Underground Attack

This is where most players die. The Excavatron drills underground and becomes completely immune to damage.

When the Excavatron jumps in the air and starts digging toward you, do not panic and run. Instead, jump and use a palm strike at the right moment to force it out of the ground and stun it early. That is your biggest damage opportunity in the whole fight.

If you miss that window, stay calm. Keep moving and block with your shield. The boss will deliver a few underground strikes. Wait for a brief pause after the boss stops moving, then dodge blindly just before the final hit lands. After the sequence ends, the boss surfaces and is briefly vulnerable — go in with your hardest combo.

Marni’s Excavatron Ultimate Mode

Like every boss in Crimson Desert, Marni’s Excavatron has an ultimate mode. The screen gets slightly darker when the boss is about to enter it. During this phase, the Excavatron becomes immune to physical damage and goes into a deadly underground attack sequence.

In ultimate mode, the Excavatron drills underground and attacks three times before surfacing. The damage output here is extremely high — the third hit can potentially kill you in one shot.

The trick is simple: after the second underground strike lands, immediately roll away. The third hit targets your exact location and follows fast. Rolling blind just after the second hit is the only reliable way to survive it.

Keep your shield raised the entire time the boss is underground, even while rolling. It blocks chip damage and keeps you alive a little longer. After all three strikes land and the boss surfaces, it is briefly vulnerable again. That is your window for maximum damage.

Alternative strategy — ranged combat

Not comfortable with melee? There is another way to approach this fight.

You can use Kliff’s Bow or Damiane’s Pistol to shoot the Excavatron from a safe distance. Try to lure it toward one of the campfires in the area, as it can get stuck between them while digging underground. Use the Focused Shot skill to rapidly fire arrows in quick succession. It also slows down time while aiming, giving you more control.

For unlimited arrows, head to Pororin village on the southeast side of Hernand. Talk to Lumiel to research and craft the Sustained Supply Arrow. This gives you an infinite arrow supply for the fight. If you want to dig deeper into research mechanics, see our how to research guide.

Marni’s Excavatron rewards and drops

Defeating Marni’s Excavatron drops two rewards. The first is the Mining Knuckledrill, a unique piece of equipment. The second is a Gold Vein Map, which points you toward a valuable mining location. Both drop automatically when the boss dies.

The Gold Vein Map is particularly useful for making money fast in Crimson Desert, especially in the early game.
