How to Get the Abyss Heuklang Pet in Crimson Desert

Abyss Heuklang Pet in Crimson Desert — find this legendary black cat at the Axiom Archive in the Abyss, build its Trust to 100, and register it as your companion with this step-by-step guide.

The Abyss Heuklang Pet in Crimson Desert is one of the most sought-after companions in the game. It is a rare black cat that lives deep in the Abyss. For a long time, players could pick it up and cradle it — but could never actually keep it. That changed with Patch 1.04, which finally made the Abyss Heuklang fully tameable. This guide covers exactly where to find it, how to build its Trust, and how to register it as your pet.

TL;DR — Abyss Heuklang Pet Quick Summary

  • Found near the entrance of the Axiom Archive in the Abyss, above Hernand Town
  • Made tameable with Patch 1.04 (April 2026)
  • Build Trust to 100 by petting and feeding — or some players report it already at full Trust after story progression
  • Favourite food is any Legendary Fish for fastest taming
  • Standard cats also accept bird meat and milk
  • Once tamed, select Take In to register it as your companion
  • Cannot be released back into the wild after taming
  • Can be renamed with up to 15 characters (added in Patch 1.04)

What Is the Abyss Heuklang?

The Abyss Heuklang is a Chimera-type cat in Crimson Desert. It has sleek, jet-black fur and moves almost silently. The game describes it as a creature not of this world — naturally cautious, but deeply loyal once it trusts you.

It was present in the game from launch, sitting near the Axiom Archive in the Abyss. Players could pick it up and hold it, but could not tame it. Feeding it legendary fish, Abyss Artefacts, and other items did nothing. Pearl Abyss heard the community’s requests and made it fully tameable in the April 2026 Patch 1.04 update.

Abyss Heuklang Location — Where to Find It

The Abyss Heuklang is found in the Abyss, which you access by pressing R3 above Hernand Town. Once you enter the Abyss, head toward the Axiom Archive — the ancient library located in the Path of Providence in the southwestern part of the Abyss.

Look for the white cat icon on your minimap. The cat typically rests on a stone block near the stairs just to the left of the Axiom Archive entrance. After Patch 1.04, additional Heuklang also roam the lush, greenery-covered starting Abyss zones, so you may encounter one simply by exploring those early areas.

The Axiom Archive is the same location you visit during the main quest Polar Opposites in Chapter 1, and again during the Crowcaller sequence in Chapter 5. So you will have passed through here early in the game. If you have progressed past that point, you can return at any time.

How to Tame the Abyss Heuklang — Building Trust

The Abyss Heuklang uses the standard pet Trust system. You need to reach 100 Trust before you can register it as your companion. Some players have reported the cat already at full Trust when they approach it — possibly because Trust is also tied to Abyss story progression, such as the Crowcaller questline at the Axiom Archive in Chapter 5.

If the Trust bar is not already full, here is how to fill it.

Step 1 — Unsummon Your Current Pet First

Before you approach the Heuklang, unsummon any active companion you have. If another pet is following you, it will eat the food you drop before the Heuklang gets to it, wasting your efforts.

Step 2 — Approach Carefully

The Heuklang is naturally cautious. Walk toward it slowly to avoid startling it. Once you are close enough, you can pick it up. Cats must be picked up before you can pet them.

Step 3 — Pet the Heuklang

Petting grants +5 Trust per interaction. You can pet it up to 5 times per day, giving a maximum of 25 Trust from petting alone each day.

Step 4 — Feed the Heuklang

Feeding is faster than petting. To feed it, open your inventory, select a food item, and choose Take Out to drop it next to the cat. The Heuklang will eat it if it is an accepted food type.

Accepted foods for the Heuklang include:

  • Legendary Fish — the Heuklang’s favourite food, grants the most Trust per feed
  • Bird Meat
  • Milk
  • Regular fish

You can feed it up to 3 times per day. Feeding grants +10 Trust per feed (capped at 35 Trust from feeding per day). Using the favourite food — any Legendary Fish — gives the maximum Trust boost and is the fastest way to tame the Heuklang.

Bird meat and milk are easy to buy from merchants in Hernand Town, just below the Abyss entrance. If you want to use Legendary Fish, see our guide on how to get the Golden Carp — one of the Legendary Fish available in the game.

Step 5 — Combine Petting and Feeding Each Day

The fastest Trust route per day is to:

  • Feed it 3 times for up to +35 Trust
  • Pet it 5 times for up to +25 Trust
  • Wait until midnight (in-game time) for the daily cap to reset, then repeat

Using this method, you can reach 100 Trust in roughly two days of in-game time. Using a Legendary Fish as the favourite food may reduce this further.

Step 6 — Select Take In

Once Trust reaches 100, interact with the Heuklang again. Select the Take In option — on PlayStation press Square, on Xbox press X. The cat is now registered as your companion.

Note: Once registered, you cannot release the Abyss Heuklang back into the wild.

How to Summon the Abyss Heuklang

After taming it, open your Inventory and navigate to the Pets tab — press R2 on PlayStation or RT on Xbox. Select the Abyss Heuklang and press X on PlayStation or A on Xbox to summon it as your active companion.

The Heuklang will follow you across the map and automatically loot items from defeated enemies, just like any other pet.

How to Rename the Abyss Heuklang

Patch 1.04 also added the ability to rename your pets. Once you have tamed the Heuklang, you can give it a custom name of up to 15 characters. This applies to all pets, not just the Heuklang.

What Can the Abyss Heuklang Do?

The Abyss Heuklang functions the same way as all other pets in Crimson Desert:

  • Follows you during exploration
  • Automatically loots items from defeated enemies
  • Can be equipped with pet accessories and gear (cosmetic items available from tailor shops such as Milou’s Tailor Shop in Pororin Forest Village)
  • Can be unsummoned at any time from your pet menu

The Heuklang is currently classified as a Chimera-type animal, which means it cannot be used in animal breeding at this time. This may change in future updates.

Was the Abyss Heuklang Always in the Game?

Yes — but it was not always tameable. From launch, the Heuklang sat near the Axiom Archive. Players could pick it up and hold it. But petting did not increase Trust, and it would not accept any food. Many players spent hours trying to tame it, offering legendary fish, rare items, and anything else they could think of. Nothing worked.

Pearl Abyss acknowledged the demand and officially made it tameable with Patch 1.04 on 23rd April 2026. This same update also added difficulty settings (Easy, Normal, Hard), the ability to rename pets and horses, and new cat types to the pet roster.

Tips for Taming the Abyss Heuklang Faster

  • Unsummon your active pet before dropping food — your companion will eat it otherwise
  • Use Legendary Fish as its favourite food for maximum Trust per feed
  • Combine daily petting and feeding to hit 100 Trust in about two days
  • Check your minimap for the white cat icon to locate it quickly
  • If Trust is already full when you approach, simply select Take In immediately — story progression through the Crowcaller questline in Chapter 5 may have filled it automatically
  • Bird meat and milk are sold at merchant shops in Hernand Town as an easy alternative food

If you want to know when shops restock supplies like food items, see our guide on when merchant shops restock in Crimson Desert.

Where to Get the Abyss Heuklang — All Spawn Locations

After Patch 1.04, there are two places to find the Abyss Heuklang:

  • Axiom Archive entrance — on a stone block to the left of the archive stairs, in the Path of Providence (southwestern Abyss). This is the original and most reliable spawn.
  • Lush, early Abyss zones — Patch 1.04 added additional Heuklang roaming the greenery-covered starting areas of the Abyss. These are not fixed spawns, but exploring the overgrown sections on foot is usually enough to find one.

All three playable characters — Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka — can tame and register an Abyss Heuklang.

Abyss Heuklang Pet — Frequently Asked Questions

Can you release the Abyss Heuklang after taming it?

No. Once you register the Abyss Heuklang, you cannot release it back to the wild. You can unsummon it from your pet menu, but it stays in your pet collection permanently.

What is the Abyss Heuklang’s favourite food?

Its favourite food is any Legendary Fish. This gives the highest Trust gain per feed and is the fastest way to tame it.

Can the Abyss Heuklang be bred?

Not currently. The Heuklang is classified as a Chimera-type, which excludes it from the breeding system for now. This could change in a future update.

Do you need to do any quest to unlock the Axiom Archive?

The Axiom Archive unlocks naturally through the main quest in Chapter 1. You visit it during the Polar Opposites quest, so as long as you have progressed past the opening hours of the game, you will have access.

Which characters can tame the Abyss Heuklang?

All three playable characters can tame it — Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka each get their own Abyss Heuklang.
