Every Unlockable Mount and Vehicle in Crimson Desert

Every mount and vehicle in Crimson Desert — horses, legendary beasts, dragon, ATAG mech, Cloudcart, wagons, trains, and temporary rides. How to unlock each one.

TL;DR

  • Crimson Desert has 29+ confirmed mounts and vehicles split across horses, legendary beasts, mechs, vehicles, and temporary animal rides.
  • Permanent mounts include all horses, three legendary horses (Royler, Rokade, Camora), five legendary beast mounts (Silver Fang, White Bear, Snowwhite Deer, Rock Tusk Warthog, Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex), the Blackstar Dragon, ATAG Mech, and Cloudcart.
  • Legendary beast mounts all follow the same unlock loop: defeat the creature, skin it for a trophy item, take it to a Witch, craft a Sigil of Solidarity, and consume it to permanently register the mount.
  • Temporary mounts — elephants, giant iguanas, lions, raptors, camels, Kuku Birds, and more — can be ridden briefly in the wild but cannot be permanently registered (as of April 2026).
  • The Blackstar Dragon is the only true flying mount and is locked behind completing Chapter 11. Use Narima’s Horn to remove its 50-minute cooldown.
  • Use Leebur’s Soul (earned by finishing the Silver Fang questline) to reveal all legendary animal locations on your map at once.

Pywel is one of the largest open-world maps in recent memory, and Pearl Abyss built a mount system to match. You start on a basic horse after the prologue and scale all the way up to a fire-breathing dragon locked behind Chapter 11. In between those two extremes sits a full roster of legendary wolves, polar bears, snow deer, warthogs, ibex, mechs, hot air balloons, wagons, and even a rideable train.

This guide covers every mount and vehicle in Crimson Desert — permanent and temporary — with how to unlock each one, their key stats where available, and what they’re actually good for.

Mount Types in Crimson Desert

Mounts in Crimson Desert fall into four categories:

Permanent mounts are registered to your character and can be summoned from the mount wheel at any time. This includes all horses, legendary beast mounts, the Blackstar Dragon, and the ATAG Mech.

Crafted/built vehicles are unlocked through camp dispatch missions or quests. The Cloudcart and Wagon fall here.

Story-locked mounts become available at specific story chapters. The ATAG Mech and Blackstar Dragon are the main examples.

Temporary mounts can be ridden briefly in the wild after staggering or defeating an enemy rider but cannot be stabled or summoned. They despawn or turn hostile when you dismount.

Only the three legendary horses can be equipped with Saddlery gear and leveled up through Trust. All other permanent mounts (legendary beasts, dragon, ATAG) cannot equip horse equipment.

Permanent Horse Mounts

Herspia
Herspia

Herspia — Your Starter Horse

You receive your first Herspia automatically after the prologue during Chapter 1. It’s a well-rounded breed with no unique skill and average stats across the board. It gets the job done early but is outclassed by other breeds in every stat category.

Wild Herpsias are the most common horse in Pywel and have the most coat and mane variations of any breed — making them the best choice if appearance matters more than stats. More common Herpsias can be found near rivers and streams across the map, or bought directly from stables in major cities.

Regular Horse Breeds

Five regular breeds are available for taming in the wild or purchasing from stable vendors. Each has a different stat focus and a unique skill unlocked at Level 3 or 5 (except Herspia). For a full breed breakdown including a stats comparison table and best-use recommendations, see the best horse and horse gear guide.

Legendary Horses

Three legendary horses exist in Pywel, each with stats roughly 25–50% higher than any regular breed. All three are permanently registered after taming.

Royler (White) — Best overall horse. Highest Movement Speed and Stamina of any mount. Located near Snowgrass Hearth lake in the Silverwolf Mountains, Pailune. Requires cold-resistant gear due to the frost debuff in the area. Learns Consecutive Instant Acceleration at Level 5 — chains drift speed boosts for bursts no other horse can match. See the full Royler and legendary horse guide.

Rokade (Black) — Tankiest horse. ~600 HP base health, nearly double Royler’s. Located near the Spire of Insight lake in the Steel Mountains, southern Hernand. No climate debuff — easiest of the three to tame. Best pick for riding into combat zones where your horse takes hits.

Camora (Red) — Best combat horse. Highest Attack (27) and Defense (100) of any horse. Located near the Redtree Forest, west of the Red River in Tashkalp. Heat debuff applies — bring fire-resistant gear. Strongest mounted combat option in the game.

For taming tips, minigame mechanics, and gear recommendations, the best horse and horse gear guide covers all of it.

Permanent Legendary Beast Mounts

These mounts were added in Patch 1.01.00 (released March 28, 2026) and all use the same unlock system:

  1. Find and defeat the legendary creature in the wild.
  2. Skin the carcass to obtain the trophy item.
  3. Take the trophy to any Witch and craft a Sigil of Solidarity under the special items tab.
  4. Consume the Sigil from your inventory to permanently register the mount.

All five are summoned from the radial mount wheel (hold F1 on PC / D-pad Up on controller) — not from the stable. None of them can equip horse gear or level up through Trust like horses can.

Pro tip: Complete the Silver Fang questline first. Defeating Black Fang rewards Leebur’s Soul — use it immediately and all legendary animal locations are marked on your world map. This saves hours of searching.

Silver Fang — Legendary Wolf Mount

Location: Howling Hollow cave, northwest of the Northern Hernand Gate, just north of The Sage’s Peak in Hernand.

silver fang mount
silver fang mount

How to unlock: Silver Fang will not spawn until you complete the Silence from Afar quest in the House Celeste tab of Hernand Faction Quests. This requires finishing a significant portion of Hernand’s side quests first, including House Celeste (at least 14 of 25 quests), House Roberts (10 of 10), and House Alfonso (6 of 6). These then unlock the Legendary Wolf mission, leading you to Black Fang first. Defeat Black Fang to receive Leebur’s Soul and trigger Silver Fang’s spawn.

Combat tips: Watch for the purple plants around the Howling Hollow area — they drain your health rapidly mid-fight. Lightning attacks briefly stun Silver Fang and are the cleanest opening. The fight involves Silver Fang plus a pack of smaller wolves, so clear adds first.

As a mount: 450 HP, 100 Stamina, 100 Attack, 45 Defense. Slower than horses with less stamina — not a travel pick. Silver Fang’s unique value is his independent combat AI: when you dismount to fight on foot, he doesn’t flee. He keeps attacking enemies on his own. He’s the only mount in the game that actively fights alongside you after you step off.

See the full Silver Fang legendary mount guide.

White Bear — Strongest Combat Beast Mount

legendar white bear
legendar white bear

Location: Far northwestern Pailune, on the northern side of Five-Finger Mountain. The White Bear roams the cliffs with its cubs — be ready to fight all three.

How to unlock: No questline prerequisites. Head directly to the location, defeat the White Bear (and its cubs), skin the carcass for the White Bear Claw, and take it to any Witch to craft the Sigil of Solidarity (White Bear). Skinning also has a chance to drop the White Bear Helm item.

Combat tips: Fire attacks significantly speed up the fight given the bear’s large HP pool. Come fully geared.

As a mount: The White Bear is the strongest combat beast mount in the game. It can attack while moving and executes a heavy combo while mounted. When you dismount, it lets out a roar that stuns nearby enemies in an area and then keeps fighting on its own — even without you riding it. After dismounting, it remains active as an independent combat unit. Downside: it’s slow. Don’t use it for long cross-region travel.

See the full White Bear legendary mount guide.

Snowwhite Deer — Best Stamina Beast Mount

Location: Silverwolf Mountain region, Pailune — near the river just above the “A” in “Pailune” on the world map, close to the Valgrand Tomb. The deer grazes with regular does and will flee the moment it spots you.

How to unlock: Equip the Reindeer Cloak before heading to the area (see the Reindeer Cloak guide). The cloak lets you approach without triggering the flee response. Alternatively, fire a fully charged Fire Arrow from long range to stagger it before it can escape. Skin it for the Snowwhite Deer Antlers, then take them to a Witch for the Sigil. Skinning can also yield the Throne of the White Knight house decoration as a bonus drop.

As a mount: 400 HP, 300+ Stamina (highest Stamina of any beast mount), 25 Attack, 50 Defense. The Snowwhite Deer is a travel mount first — its enormous stamina pool means sustained galloping across terrain for longer than any other beast mount. It also has a chargeable ram attack and a decent jump for handling rough terrain. Weak in combat but excellent for crossing Pywel efficiently. Best paired with the White Bear: use the deer for open-terrain travel, swap to the bear when you hit a bandit camp.

Rock Tusk Warthog — Best Charge Mount

Location: Bordig Ruins, southern Tashkalp near Demeniss (northeast of Demeniss, south in the Crimson Desert region). The ruins are filled with enemies and enemy-mounted warthogs.

How to unlock: No prerequisites. Entering the Bordig Ruins area and engaging the local enemies automatically triggers the Master of the Wetlands (also called Master of a Forgotten Land) Faction Quest under Lords of Unclaimed Lands. Among the enemies, look for Ravok of the Savage Fangs — he’s identifiable by riding a warthog wearing a bright red cape.

The fight is two phases: deplete the first health bar and Ravok flees into the ruins. Track him down with your lantern for the second phase. Defeat him again to get the Rock Tusk Warthog Molar (or Tusk). Take it to any Witch for the Sigil.

As a mount: 450–800 HP (sources vary slightly), 200 Stamina, 100 Attack, 25 Defense. The Warthog’s signature ability is a short, powerful forward charge that breaks through shielded enemy formations and tramples multiple targets in a single run. It’s a crowd-control tool first. Use it to open fights by plowing through enemy lines, then dismount and continue on foot. Less useful for travel due to average stamina and lower speed.

See the full Rock Tusk Warthog mount guide.

Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex — Steepest Requirements, Best Terrain Mount

Location: North of the Ridge Hunter Tannery, Wayward Woods west of Pailune.

How to unlock: This is the hardest mount to obtain. You need all of the following before the unlock questline becomes available:

  • Complete Chapter 8 of the main story
  • Complete 15 Pailune Militia missions
  • Defeat the White Horn Yeti from the Sogghorn Tribe faction

Finishing those unlocks the Fog Over the Forest mission under the Longleaf Tribe faction quests (also called The Sport Hunter). This leads you to Moren, the Mistwood Huntmaster, who rides the Ibex as a boss. Two-phase fight: deplete the first health bar, the Ibex flees leaving a frost trail (red circle on minimap), track it for the second phase. Defeat Moren to get the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex Horns. Take to a Witch for the Sigil.

As a mount: 400 HP, 300 Stamina, 25 Attack, 50 Defense (0 Defense per some sources). The Ibex has no combat mount skills to speak of, but it excels at rough terrain traversal — its jump and handling outperform regular horses on uneven ground, making it excellent for mountain and cliff regions. Solid stamina pool for sustained travel. Think of it as the terrain specialist of the beast mount roster.

See the full Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex mount guide.

Blackstar Dragon — The Only Flying Mount

How to unlock: The Blackstar Dragon is awarded automatically at the end of Chapter 11, just before the game’s final chapter. No taming, no side quest, no sigil. It registers directly to your mount wheel when the story sequence triggers.

What it does: Blackstar can run on land, fly at altitude, and breathe fire on enemy groups below. As a combat opener, the standard approach is to fly over a group of enemies, rain fire from altitude, then land and clean up survivors on foot. It ignores all terrain, turning any cross-map journey into a straight line.

The cooldown problem: Blackstar can only be summoned once every 50 minutes until you obtain Narima’s Horn. Use Narima’s Horn to remove the cooldown entirely and summon the dragon freely. See the how to remove dragon cooldown guide for the exact steps.

Why the gate exists: The dragon is deliberately locked behind Chapter 11 so the earlier 60+ hours of exploration and navigation remain meaningful. A freely available flying mount from Chapter 1 would trivialise most of Pywel’s geography.

See the full dragon mount guide.

ATAG Mech — Most Powerful Combat Vehicle

What it is: The All-Terrain Armored Gear (ATAG) is a mech walker loaded for war: rapid-fire machine gun, defense array, ramming maneuver, wide-area blast cannon, and EMP discharge. It’s arguably the most destructive thing you can ride in Crimson Desert, capable of obliterating entire enemy groups alone.

How to unlock: The ATAG enters the story during Chapter 10, when mecha creatures assault the Ironflame Orcs’ stronghold of Gorthak. ATAG suits are found inside special hangars in Gorthak. Complete the quests for the Ironflame Orcs and your own personal ATAG becomes permanently summonable.

Limitation: The ATAG is an endgame-tier vehicle by design. It’s gated to Chapter 10 specifically because its firepower would remove challenge from earlier content.

For the ATAG repair quest, see how to get and repair the ATAG.

Marni’s Mechahorse — The Underwater Mount

What it is: A robotic mechanical horse built from lightweight timber and strong alloy. Marni’s Mechahorse does two things no other mount can: it never consumes stamina during normal riding, and it can travel underwater.

Where to find it: Just outside the south gate of the City of Delesyia, in the Eastern Hills region.

How to ride it: You need a Mask to steal it (see the how to steal items guide). Equip a Mask near the Mechahorse and take it.

Permanent? No — as of April 2026, Marni’s Mechahorse cannot be stabled and disappears once you dismount or leave the area. Pearl Abyss has converted other temporary creatures into permanent mounts via patches, so this may change. The underwater movement is also believed to be a glitch that may be patched in a future update — use it while it lasts.

See the full Marni’s Mechahorse guide.

Cloudcart — Hot Air Balloon

What it is: The Cloudcart is a craftable hot air balloon that functions as an aerial vehicle. It’s one of the first non-horse transport options most players encounter.

How to unlock:

  1. Progress to Chapter 3 and complete the Bustling Hill quest (Howling Hill Expansion Mission dispatch).
  2. Discover Emberwind Workshop, located just north of Glenbright Manor.
  3. Assign an Engineer comrade to your camp.
  4. Dispatch the Cloudcart mission under Emberwind Workshop at the camp dispatch coordinator.
  5. Wait for the mission to complete, then summon the Cloudcart from the mount wheel.

For full details on the dispatch system and required materials, see the how to unlock Cloudcart guide.

Wagons — Ground Vehicles

What they are: Large ground vehicles that can carry cargo across Pywel. You can steal Wagons from NPCs for temporary use or sell them to Wagon Fences for Silver. For a permanent personal Wagon you can summon:

How to unlock:

  1. Upgrade the Greymane Camp at Howling Hill to a sufficient level.
  2. Recruit a comrade named Brice, who becomes the Wagon Master at your camp.
  3. Accept Brice’s commission to craft a Wagon at Timberturner Wainwright.
  4. Complete the dispatch mission to craft the Wagon.

For camp upgrades needed to reach this point, see how to upgrade Howling Hill base camp and the large-scale expeditions guide.

For quick silver from wagon theft: how to make money fast.

Kuku Rocket Pack — Flight for Oongka

What it is: Technically a jetpack rather than a mount, the Kuku Rocket Pack is the flight mechanic for Oongka, the Dwarven character. It’s equipped on the back and allows gliding and limited aerial movement. Stamina drains while in use.

How to unlock: Complete the Fire Breathing Pack quest chain. For the full walkthrough, see the Fire Breathing Pack guide and the Kuku Rocket Pack crafting guide.

Trains and Boats — Non-Owned Vehicles

Trains: Railroad tracks run through the Crimson Desert and Delesyia regions in the eastern and southeastern parts of the continent. Trains travel these routes periodically. You can grapple onto a passing train and ride it across the region. You cannot own or summon a train — it’s purely a situational transit option.

Boats/Rowboats: Small rowboats are scattered across Pywel near bodies of water and can be used to cross rivers and coastal areas. They cannot be claimed or registered. For longer water crossings, use the Cloudcart, the Dragon, or triple-jump with Force Palm and glide across.

Temporary Animal Mounts

These creatures can be ridden briefly after staggering or defeating an enemy rider, but cannot be permanently registered or summoned as of April 2026. They despawn after a short time or turn hostile when you dismount.

FAQ — Mounts and Vehicles in Crimson Desert

How many mounts are there in Crimson Desert?

There are 29 confirmed permanent and temporary mounts as of April 2026, spanning horses, legendary beasts, a dragon, mechs, and vehicles. Pearl Abyss has been actively adding new permanent mounts through patches, so the number is likely to grow. The total rideable entity count is far higher when temporary animals are included.

What is the best mount in Crimson Desert?

It depends on the goal. For exploration and general travel, Royler (legendary white horse) is the best — highest Speed and Stamina of any mount. For raw combat power, the ATAG Mech and Blackstar Dragon are unmatched, but both require late-game progression to unlock. For beast mounts specifically, the White Bear dominates in combat and the Snowwhite Deer leads for stamina-based travel.

How do you unlock legendary beast mounts in Crimson Desert?

All five legendary beast mounts (Silver Fang, White Bear, Snowwhite Deer, Rock Tusk Warthog, Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex) use the same system: find and defeat the creature, skin it for a trophy item, take the trophy to any Witch, craft a Sigil of Solidarity, and consume the Sigil from your inventory. The mount then appears permanently in your radial mount wheel.

How do you find all legendary animal locations in Crimson Desert?

Complete the Silver Fang questline in Hernand to defeat Black Fang and earn Leebur’s Soul. Use it immediately — it marks all legendary animal locations on your world map at once. Without it, you’d need to search each region manually.

How do you remove the Blackstar Dragon cooldown in Crimson Desert?

Obtain Narima’s Horn to remove the 50-minute summoning cooldown entirely. Without it, the Dragon can only be called once per 50 minutes. See the dragon cooldown removal guide for the exact steps.

Can you permanently keep Marni’s Mechahorse in Crimson Desert?

Not as of April 2026. Marni’s Mechahorse is a temporary mount that disappears when you dismount or leave the area. It cannot be stabled or registered. Pearl Abyss may convert it into a permanent mount in a future patch — they’ve done this with other creatures before. The underwater movement it provides is also believed to be a glitch and may be removed.
