TL;DR
- The Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex is a boss mount requiring significant faction quest progression in Pailune before it becomes available
- Prerequisites: Reach Chapter 8, complete 15 Pailune Militia quests (non-bounty), defeat the White Horn Yeti via Skoghorn Tribe Soul Shepherd quests, then unlock the Longleaf Tribe
- The boss is Moren the Mistwood Huntmaster — found near the Wayward Woods west of Pailune via the Sport Hunter quest
- Moren is a two-phase fight — he flees into the mist after Phase 1, use your lantern to track him down for Phase 2
- After defeating him, take the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex Horn to any Witch, craft the Sigil of Solidarity, and use it from your inventory
- The Ibex has high stamina and is faster than the Rock Tusk Warthog — great for long-distance traversal
The Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex is one of the most prestigious mounts in Crimson Desert. A massive frost-covered mountain goat ridden by the most cunning hunter in Pailune, it has steep prerequisites compared to most other mounts in the game — but the payoff is worth it. This guide walks through every requirement in order so you do not waste time hitting walls mid-way through the unlock chain.
Prerequisites — What You Need First
The Alpine Ibex has the steepest unlock chain of any boss mount in Crimson Desert. There are three things that must be done before the Sport Hunter quest and the boss encounter become available.
1. Reach Chapter 8 and unlock Pailune
Pailune becomes accessible during Chapter 7 when the main story pushes you north. You need to progress to Chapter 8 and complete the Healing Pailune main quest before the faction quest structure in the region fully opens up.
2. Complete 15 Pailune Militia non-bounty quests
The Pailune Militia questline is the largest faction chain in the region, with 27 total quests. You need to complete 15 of the non-bounty missions to unlock the Skoghorn Tribe questline. Bounty quests do not count toward this threshold — focus on the standard faction missions only. Use the in-game faction quest checklist to track your progress.
3. Defeat the White Horn Yeti via Skoghorn Tribe Soul Shepherd quests
Once Skoghorn Tribe unlocks, work through their Soul Shepherd faction quests until you defeat the White Horn Yeti world boss. Completing this unlocks the Longleaf Tribe faction. See our boss guide on how to find and beat White Horn Shepherd of Souls in Crimson Desert for the fight breakdown.
Once all three conditions are met, the Longleaf Tribe appears in the Pailune section of your Journal’s Faction Quests tab.

Step 1 — Unlock the Longleaf Tribe and Find the Bounty
With the Longleaf Tribe now accessible, open your Journal and navigate to the Longleaf Tribe faction quests. Start the Concern of the Tannery mission.
Travel to the quest location marked on your map. At the camp, look for a bounty notice posted on a pillar. Interact with it to accept the Sport Hunter quest. This is the quest that sends you after Moren the Mistwood Huntmaster.
If the Sport Hunter quest is not appearing after unlocking Longleaf Tribe, visit Longleaf Village in the Silver Wolf Mountain area and check again — triggering the village visit can sometimes be required before the bounty unlocks.
Step 2 — Find Moren the Mistwood Huntmaster
Moren is found in the Wayward Woods, west of Pailune. The Sport Hunter quest marks the general hunting ground on your map. Once you are in the area, equip your lantern and point it in front of you. A yellow trail will appear guiding you toward the boss.
Moren is a mounted archer who rides the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex. His large mount makes him easy to spot once you are close enough. The Wayward Woods area is patrolled by his tribe of hunters who will try to interfere during the fight.
If you want to enter the Wayward Woods, see our guide on how to enter the Wayward Woods Witch Hideout in Crimson Desert for navigation help in the area.

Step 3 — Defeat Moren (Phase 1)
Before engaging Moren directly, clear the surrounding hunters in the area. They will pile in during the boss fight and overwhelm you if left alive. Take them out first, then focus on the boss.
Moren is a mounted archer — his primary threat is sustained ranged fire from the Ibex’s back. The most reliable counter is to use Nature’s Snare with Nature’s Retribution unlocked. Enter Focus mode, wait for Moren to fire his bow, use Nature’s Snare to catch the incoming arrows, then release Nature’s Retribution to fire them all back at him. This deals heavy damage and staggers him reliably.
If you prefer a more direct approach, use ranged attacks to thin out minions from distance before closing in on Moren. You can also use the environment — large rocks and fallen trees create natural cover that forces him to reposition and interrupts his firing rhythm.
When Moren’s first health bar is depleted, he disappears into a mist of smoke. This is scripted — not a bug.
Step 4 — Track and Defeat Moren (Phase 2)
After the Phase 1 retreat, Moren flees deeper into the Wayward Woods. A frost trail appears. Keep an eye on the red circle markers on your minimap — they track his movement path and lead you to his Phase 2 location.
Follow the trail until you find him again. Phase 2 hits noticeably harder than Phase 1, so keep healing items ready and do not get complacent. The same tactics from Phase 1 work here — use Nature’s Snare and Retribution if you have it, or kite him around terrain obstacles.
Defeat Moren in Phase 2 and the quest completes. You receive the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex Horn as your reward, along with additional quest rewards.

Step 5 — Craft the Sigil of Solidarity at a Witch
Take the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex Horn to any Witch. Elowen at the Witch Woods in Hernand is the most convenient option. See our guide on how to enter the Wayward Woods Witch Hideout if you need her location.
Interact with the Witch and select Craft Abyss Gear. Press R2 on PlayStation or RT on Xbox to navigate to the Special Items tab. Select Sigil of Solidarity (Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex) — the only material required is the Horn. Craft it.
Step 6 — Summon Your Alpine Ibex
Open your inventory and use the Sigil of Solidarity (Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex). This permanently registers the mount with no despawn timer.
To summon it, hold F1 on PC or press D-Pad Up on a controller to open the character and mount selection wheel. Scroll through the mount options and select the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex. It is now part of your permanent roster alongside your horses and other unlocked mounts.

Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex Stats and Abilities
The Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex has 400 Health, 300 Endurance, and 25 Attack. It has high stamina and decent speed, making it well-suited for long-distance traversal — noticeably better in this regard than the Rock Tusk Warthog. However, unlike horses and the Warthog, the Ibex does not have dedicated mounted combat skills. It can kick backward, but it is primarily a travel mount rather than a combat one.
If you want the best combat-focused exotic mount, the Rock Tusk Warthog is the better pick with its Charge and Stomp abilities. If you want speed and endurance across long terrain, the Ibex excels.
Tips for the Unlock Chain
Start Pailune Militia quests as soon as Chapter 7 unlocks. The 15-quest threshold comes up faster than you think if you chip away at it naturally while exploring. Running them alongside main story progression saves time versus doing them all at once later.
Do not skip the Skoghorn Tribe Soul Shepherd quests. This is the gate between Skoghorn and Longleaf, and the White Horn Yeti fight inside it is one of the area’s notable world boss encounters. Clearing it as part of normal faction progression means you hit the Longleaf unlock naturally.
Clear the hunters before engaging Moren. The tribal hunters around the Wayward Woods are the biggest threat during Phase 1. Take them out completely before provoking the boss or you will be fighting on two fronts.
Use the lantern at every stage. The lantern’s yellow trail activates during the initial approach and during Phase 2 tracking. Do not try to navigate Phase 2 by guessing — the trail is there for a reason. The red circle minimap markers in Phase 2 also help narrow his location.
Bring Spirit-restoring food. Nature’s Snare and Retribution are Spirit-heavy skills. Running out mid-fight leaves you without your main counter to Moren’s arrows. Stock up beforehand. See our guide on how to get max Spirit in Crimson Desert if your Spirit gauge feels too small.
Gear up fully before committing. Moren’s Phase 2 hits hard. Make sure your weapons and armor are fully upgraded before heading into Pailune. See our guide on how to upgrade weapons and armor in Crimson Desert to prepare.
