How to Get Abyss Cells in Crimson Desert

Abyss Cells don’t drop from regular enemies. You won’t find them in random chests, and you can’t buy them from most vendors. They come from a specific type of enemy — Abyss Creatures — and knowing which ones to hunt makes all the difference.

Bismuth Oreback Crabs

The most reliable source of Abyss Cells is the Bismuth Oreback Crab. These crabs are tricky to find because they don’t walk around like normal enemies. Instead, they camouflage themselves as strange metallic ore deposits on the ground.

Here’s the catch: if you don’t know what you’re looking for, you’ll walk straight past them.

To reveal a hidden Bismuth Oreback Crab, hit the suspicious-looking ore with Force Palm. The crab will instantly drop its disguise and attack. Once you kill it, loot the body for Abyss Cells and Bismuth Ore.

These crabs appear frequently near Abyss Nexus fast travel points, so keep your eyes low to the ground whenever you’re near one.

Tip: Make it a habit to Force Palm any odd-looking ore cluster you pass. It only takes a second, and each crab kill could give you cells you’d otherwise miss.

Wandershrubs (Secondary Source)

Abyss Cells also drop from a specific variant of Wandershrubs — the ones with spiky stones embedded in their bodies. These aren’t as reliable as crabs, but if you spot one while exploring, it’s worth killing for the chance at cells.

Best Location to Farm Abyss Cells — Drakesfall Castle

The top spot for farming Abyss Cells in Crimson Desert is Drakesfall Castle, located directly north of Hernand.

This location is packed with Bismuth Oreback Crabs throughout the interior, and a recent update added an Abyss Nexus right inside the castle. That changes everything.

Why Drakesfall Castle Is So Good

Crabs respawn as soon as you leave and return via fast travel
Each full run yields roughly 6–10 Abyss Cells plus bonus Bismuth Ore and Abyss Gear drops

How to Farm Drakesfall Castle Efficiently

Fast travel to the Drakesfall Castle Abyss Nexus
Explore the castle interior and Force Palm every ore-looking object to reveal hidden crabs
Kill all the crabs and loot everything
Use the Abyss Nexus to fast travel to a nearby town (or any other Nexus point)
Immediately fast travel back to Drakesfall Castle
The crabs will have respawned — repeat the loop

This cycle is one of the fastest ways to stockpile Abyss Cells in the game.

What If Hernand Troops Are There?

Occasionally, after several runs, Hernand Troops will occupy Drakesfall Castle. When this happens, the Bismuth Oreback Crabs won’t spawn at all.

Don’t panic — just leave and come back. Wait 3–4 in-game days and the troops will be gone. The fastest way to skip time is to sleep in your home near the Howling Hill camp. After sleeping, fast travel back and the crabs should be waiting.

How to Use Abyss Cells in Crimson Desert

Once you have Abyss Cells, there are two main things to spend them on.

1. Craft Abyss Gears (Abyss Cores)

Abyss Gears are stat-boosting mods that slot into Abyss Core sockets on your weapons and armor. You craft them at the Witch vendors — specifically by speaking with Elowen the Witch in Hernand and selecting Craft Abyss Cores.

Each core has different stat bonuses — Attack, Defense, Critical Hit, and more. You can also craft multiple copies of the same core and combine them to create a higher-level, upgraded version.

This is where the bulk of your Abyss Cells will go. Late-game, your build is largely defined by which cores you’ve crafted and upgraded.

2. Enhance Health Past Level 11

In Crimson Desert, you can increase your Health stat through the Skills menu. But there’s a hard cap at Level 11 — and you cannot go beyond it without Abyss Cells.

Once you spend Abyss Cells to break past Level 11, your health bar increases significantly. This makes a real difference in the game’s hardest boss fights, where being able to take one or two extra hits is all that stands between you and a wipe.

Recommendation: Prioritize pushing Health past Level 11 before spending Abyss Cells on gear. A bigger health bar is useful in every situation, while specific gear cores are more situational.

Quick Farming Tips

Always Force Palm strange-looking ore. It takes one second. Skipping this means leaving Abyss Cells behind constantly.
Don’t sell your Abyss Cells. The silver isn’t worth it compared to what you lose in crafting potential.
Farm Drakesfall Castle in short loops. Fast travel out, fast travel back. Each loop takes about 5 minutes and gives you a steady batch of cells.
Bring good gear before farming. Bismuth Oreback Crabs hit harder than they look. Having a solid build will make runs much smoother. Check out the best early build guide if you’re struggling.

Use Lightning Surge if you have it. This skill deals AoE damage and hits multiple crabs at once, which speeds up each run considerably.
