TL;DR

  • White Horn unlocks after Chapter 5 — complete enough Pailune Faction Quests first
  • Find the quest “Deep-Rooted Sorrow” under the Skoghorn Tribe tab at Skoghorn Farm
  • Head to Argent Peaks, west of Skoghorn Farm, to reach the fight
  • White Horn is a massive yeti-reindeer hybrid — three phases, fire is his main weakness
  • Bring Flame Strike, Palmar Pills, Braised Meat, and Roar-Resistant helmets
  • Phase 3 is actually the easiest — Kearush joins as an ally and does most of the work
  • Rewards: White Horn’s Earring and the Frost Hail Abyss Gear

White Horn is one of the most iconic bosses in Crimson Desert. If you’ve seen the trailers, you already know him — the massive horned snow creature lurking in the Pailune tundra. Getting to fight him in-game takes a bit of setup, but the battle itself is one of the most memorable in the game.

Here’s how to find him, what to bring, and how to beat all three phases.

How to Unlock White Horn in Crimson Desert

White Horn doesn’t just appear on your map. You have to earn the right to fight him.

  • Head to Skoghorn Farm and look for the “Deep-Rooted Sorrow” quest under the Skoghorn Tribe tab

Don’t skip the Faction Quests thinking you can rush this. The Skoghorn Tribe tab won’t appear until you’ve put in the work across Pailune first.

What to Bring Before Fighting White Horn

This is a three-phase boss fight. Going in unprepared is a fast way to burn through your items or die before Phase 3 even starts.

Here’s what to bring:

Recovery Items — Stock up on Braised Meat and Meat Skewers. Both restore Health and Spirit, and you’ll need both throughout the fight. You can open your inventory mid-fight to use them since the game pauses while the menu is open.

Palmar Pills — This fight can kill you. Palmar Pills let you revive on the spot. Don’t leave camp without them. Check our guide on how to get and use Palmar Pills in Crimson Desert if you’re not sure where to find them.

Flame Strike — This skill is practically essential here. White Horn is weak to fire, and Flame Strike exploits that weakness directly. It sets him on fire and knocks him to the ground, opening him up for big follow-up damage. Get our guide on how to get Flame Strike in Crimson Desert before heading up the mountain.

Turning Slash — Another strong skill for this fight. You become briefly invulnerable during the attack animation, and the damage is solid. Great for getting hits in while staying safe.

Ice-Resistant Armor — Not required, but recommended. Without it, your stamina drains faster in the cold. That matters in a long fight where stamina management is already critical. See our ice resistance guide for more.

Roar-Resistant Helmet — White Horn’s roar can freeze your movement or invert your controls temporarily. A helmet with roar resistance cuts down on this disruption. The effect only lasts a few seconds, but mid-fight that can be enough to get you killed.

How to Beat White Horn in Crimson Desert

White Horn Phase 1

White Horn starts aggressive but is manageable if you stay offensive.

Your core attack loop is: Flame Strike → Blinding Flash Finisher → Turning Slash → repeat. Flame Strike sets him on fire and drops him to the ground. That’s your window to chain the other attacks.

A few things to watch for:

  • Boulder throws — White Horn throws boulders at range. Dodge sideways to avoid them.
  • Forward charge — Dodge left or right, never backward.
  • Ground slams — Stay mobile and don’t stand still.
  • Horn attacks — His close-range horn hits apply Knockdown. Keep moving and don’t let him pin you.

Lock onto him, strafe constantly, and don’t attempt parries. Focus is only for recovery — use it to restore Spirit when you run low, then get back into the attack loop.

The arena also has environmental objects you can torch. Setting them on fire creates sustained burn hazards you can kite White Horn through for extra fire damage on top of Flame Strike.

One more thing: White Horn can be physically climbed and mounted. If he staggers, you can scale him and attack weak points while holding on with one hand. It’s risky but deals excellent damage if you can manage it.

White Horn Phase 2

Phase 2 adds new attacks and forces you to adapt.

New attacks to know:

  • Roar — Freezes your movement and can invert your controls for a few seconds. There’s not much you can do except wait it out. A Roar-Resistant helmet shortens this.
  • Stomp and slash — He’ll jump on top of you and try to slash. Dodge left or right immediately.
  • Ice breath — A new ranged attack. This one requires horizontal dodging, not a forward roll. Rolling toward it won’t work.
  • Invulnerable ice dash — Ice falls from the sky while he frantically dashes at you. Keep spamming dodge until the animation ends. Don’t try to attack during this.

Your attack pattern stays the same: Flame Strike → Blinding Flash Finisher → Turning Slash. Just stay disciplined and don’t get greedy when the ice dash starts.

Keep an eye on your stamina. Stamina powers everything — dodging, blocking, climbing. Running out mid-phase leaves you completely exposed. If your stamina drops low, back off and let it recover before re-engaging.

White Horn Phase 3

Phase 3 is the big twist — and it’s actually the easiest of the three.

Kearush joins the fight as your ally. He’s there to finish White Horn off, and he’s very good at it.

Your job in this phase: let Kearush do the heavy lifting. Stay out of White Horn’s focus, jump in occasionally for a quick Turning Slash, then back off again. Don’t try to be the hero here.

You don’t need to worry about fighting Kearush afterward. Once White Horn is dead, Kearush leaves. That’s it.
