TL;DR
- Flame Strike cannot be unlocked with Abyss Artifacts — you must solve the Tree of Slumber puzzle.
- The Tree of Slumber sits at the end of a six-part Abyss chain starting at the Spire of Ringing Truth in western Pailune.
- The full chain is: Spire of Ringing Truth → Ether Rest → Frostbitten Paradise → Path of Trials → Sanctorum of Darkness → Loop of Life → Tree of Slumber.
- To solve the Tree of Slumber, stab the central pillar (R1+Triangle / RB+Y) and adjust the outer pillars until all four glow blue.
- Completing the puzzle automatically unlocks Flame Strike and Flame Lv 1 for Kliff (plus Flame Rush for Damiane and Flame Quake for Oongka).
- You also unlock Frost Mantle along the way at the Path of Trials — making this chain worth doing early.
Flame Strike is one of the most powerful elemental skills in Crimson Desert. It lets you imbue your attacks with fire, burning enemies in an area of effect. But unlike most skills, you cannot unlock it with Abyss Artifacts. You have to earn it the hard way — by working through a long chain of Abyss puzzles deep inside the floating islands above Pailune.
This guide covers everything. We will walk you through the full puzzle chain, explain how to reach the Tree of Slumber, and give you the exact solution to the Tree of Slumber itself.

What Is Flame Strike in Crimson Desert?
Flame Strike is an Elemental Imbuement skill. Once unlocked, it lets you coat your weapon in fire and deal burn damage to nearby enemies. It works for all playable characters, though the name changes slightly per character:
- Kliff — Flame Strike
- Damiane — Flame Rush
- Oongka — Flame Quake
All three are unlocked at the same time by completing the Tree of Slumber puzzle. The skill sits in the red section of each character’s skill tree and cannot be activated through regular Abyss Artifact progression. You have to complete the Abyss puzzle chain to get it.
How to Reach the Tree of Slumber
The Tree of Slumber is the final stop in an Abyss island chain. There are two routes to get there, but the main route through the Spire of Ringing Truth is better — especially if you haven’t unlocked Frost Mantle yet, since you’ll pick it up on the way.
Route 1 (Recommended): Spire of Ringing Truth
Full chain: Spire of Ringing Truth → Ether Rest → Frostbitten Paradise → Path of Trials (Frost Mantle unlocked here) → Sanctorum of Darkness → Loop of Life → Tree of Slumber
Route 2 (Shortcut): Root’s End Ruin
You can ascend to the Abyss via the Root’s End Ruin in Pailune, then solve that puzzle to reach the Abyss via the Twisted Thicketway. From there, extend the sky bridge to the Skyloop Bridge, then continue to the Tree of Slumber. This skips the earlier islands and means you will miss Frost Mantle unless you’ve already unlocked it separately.
Step-by-Step: Full Abyss Chain to Get Flame Strike

Step 1 — Spire of Ringing Truth
The Spire of Ringing Truth is found in the western part of Pailune. It is optional and not connected to the main story, so you will need to look for it on the map.
To unlock the Abyss, you need to:
- Climb the Spire of Ringing Truth tower.
- Destroy the bell at the top.
- Defeat the boss Priscus the Ancient.
Beating Priscus opens the Abyss Gate. We have a full guide on Priscus the Ancient and the Spire of Ringing Truth if you need help with this fight.
Step 2 — Ether Rest
After beating Priscus and stepping through the portal, you land on a small floating ledge above the clouds.
Here’s what to do:
- Glide across the gap using the air currents to reach the large structure in the center.
- Use Axiom Force (L3) on the circular switch to activate the controls.
- Rotate the sliding panels to open an entryway.
- Use Nature’s Snare to lift the movable wall and reveal a gap. Roll through it.
- You’ll enter a section with spinning fans on a conveyor belt. Ride the air currents from the fans to float upward. Jump onto a fan, then glide to ride the wind higher.
- At the top, look for an electrified cube — interact with it to complete this section and extend the sky bridge to Frostbitten Paradise.
Our full guide to Ether Rest has every step covered.

Step 3 — Frostbitten Paradise
Frostbitten Paradise is an ice-themed Abyss island. The cold here will damage you over time, so come prepared.
Before you enter, stock up on ice resistance gear or food that provides Frost Protection. Our ice resistance and frost protection guide explains exactly what you need.
Complete the puzzle here to extend the sky bridge forward. See our full Frostbitten Paradise walkthrough for the solution.
Step 4 — Path of Trials (Frost Mantle Unlocked Here)
The Path of Trials is where you pick up Frost Mantle — the ice elemental skill — as a bonus reward before moving on to Flame Strike.
Key points for this area:
- The Path of Trials is also cold. Ice resistance is important here too.
- Head north to find a stone lantern you can stand near for warmth.
- Use Jump + Triple Force Palm (R3) to climb stone walls.
- You’ll find a battery that needs to be inserted into a slot. Use Axiom Force (L3) to pick it up.
- Once the puzzle is solved and the Abyss panel is activated, Frost Mantle is unlocked automatically.
Our Path of Trials and Frost Mantle guide walks through every step in detail.

Step 5 — Sanctorum of Darkness
The Sanctorum of Darkness uses lasers and electricity to block your path. It sounds harder than it is.
Here’s the general flow:
- In the center of the island, you’ll see a barrier on the floor. There are two laser machines, but only one is active.
- There’s an electrified square panel on the right side. The left side is missing its panel.
- Glide carefully down to the lower area. You’ll find an electrified panel behind a metal gate. You don’t actually need to open the gate.
- Position the existing panel to power the second laser, which will destroy the barrier and let you move forward.
See our full Sanctorum of Darkness guide for the exact solution.
Step 6 — Loop of Life
Loop of Life is a three-ring battery activation puzzle. You need to solve this puzzle before the sky bridge to the Tree of Slumber becomes available.
Our Loop of Life puzzle solution covers exactly how to do this.
How to Solve the Tree of Slumber Puzzle (Flame Strike)
You’ve made it. The Tree of Slumber is the final island in the chain, and completing it unlocks Flame Strike.
The puzzle involves a central pillar mechanism surrounded by four outer pillars. This is similar in style to the Ancient Ruins pillar puzzles you may have seen elsewhere in Pailune. Here’s how to complete it:
Tree of Slumber Puzzle Solution
- Walk up to the central pillar and use your Stab ability (R1 + Triangle on PlayStation / RB + Y on Xbox) to drive your sword into one of the four square slots on the side of the mechanism.
- Once your sword is inside the slot, rotate it left or right. This raises or lowers the outer pillars connected to that slot.
- Each slot controls different pillars. Some slots move two pillars, others move three. There is a fifth pillar in the area that cannot be moved — this is your reference height.
- The goal is to match all four movable pillars to the height of the fixed fifth pillar.
- As each pillar reaches the correct height, it will stop glowing orange and start glowing blue. The blue glow is your confirmation that the pillar is in the right position.
- Keep adjusting the slots until all four outer pillars glow blue. Be careful not to push them too far — you can overshoot and need to come back up.
- Once all four pillars are lit blue, the lava below will drain and the area will change.
- Head north to find an Abyss platform. Use Force Palm on it to activate the Abyss Gate.
- Flame Strike and Flame Lv 1 are automatically unlocked. No extra steps needed.
Using Flame Strike burns enemies within its area of effect. Like all Elemental Imbuement skills, you can also use it to enhance specific attacks — dealing extra fire damage with certain abilities.
Other Tips Before You Go In
Here are a few things worth knowing before you make this run:
- Bring ice resistance items for Path of Trials and Frostbitten Paradise. You will take cold damage over time in those zones. Check our frost protection guide before you head in.
- Use your Axiom Force often. Many puzzles in this chain require it to interact with switches and batteries. Our guide on how to use Axiom Force explains it fully.
- Make sure your gear is solid before this run. These Abyss islands get progressively harder. See our tips on how to get better equipment before you start.
- You can unlock Flame and Frost in the same run. If you go through Route 1 from the Spire of Ringing Truth, you get Frost Mantle at the Path of Trials and Flame Strike at the Tree of Slumber — both in one session.
- Skill points matter here. Once you unlock Flame Strike, you’ll want to invest points into it. Check our guides on how to get skill points and best skills to level up first.
