TL;DR
- Stolen livestock goes to the Livestock Black Market (near Hernand windmill, Demeniss, or Tashkalp)
- You need a Thief’s Mask before you can steal owned animals
- Stolen horses sell at Saddlewind Ranch, north of Hernand
- Wild tamed horses sell at any Stable or your camp Stablemaster
- Ranch animals sell at your Howling Hill camp for camp funds, not silver
- Always unequip horse gear before selling or you lose it permanently
Selling animals in Crimson Desert is one of those systems the game barely walks you through. You see sheep, goats, cows, and horses everywhere, but figuring out where and how to actually turn them into coin takes some digging. This guide covers every method clearly so you don’t waste time running to the wrong buyer.
The Three Ways to Sell Animals
There are three main paths for selling animals in Crimson Desert, and each one works differently depending on what type of animal you have and how you got it.
- Sell stolen livestock to a Livestock Black Market fence
- Sell stolen or found horses to a Horse Fence
- Sell your own ranch animals at Howling Hill camp
Let’s break each one down.

How to Sell Stolen Livestock
Step 1 – Get the Thief’s Mask First
Before you can steal any owned animal, you need one specific item: the Thief’s Mask. Without it equipped, you won’t even get a steal prompt when you approach owned animals. Head to the windmill south of Hernand Church, in the farmland below Hernand Town. There’s a back alley merchant there. Buy the Thief’s Mask from him.
Step 2 – Steal the Animal
Once the mask is on, approach any animal flagged as owned. You’ll see a “Steal” option appear. Press it. The second you do, a red circle appears around you on the ground, and a Theft Alert meter activates. NPCs nearby will investigate. If they catch you inside the red zone, you’ll get a bounty slapped on you or risk arrest. Move fast, get out of the circle, and put distance between you and any witnesses until the heat drops.

Step 3 – Carry It to the Livestock Black Market
Once you’re clear of the alert, carry the animal to a Livestock Black Market fence. There are three locations:
- Near the Hernand windmill – The main one. Edmond is the man in charge of livestock deals here, but the actual transaction goes through the back alley merchant at the same spot.
- Demeniss – A second fence location further into the map.
- Tashkalp – Third location for players deeper into the game world.
Small animals like roosters or ducks have to be physically carried in your arms all the way to the fence’s shop. Larger animals like cows and goats you lead or herd. Walk inside the shop area with the animal and the transaction completes automatically.
One important thing to note — the silver payout is low. This isn’t a reliable way to get rich. Think of it as bonus income when animals are already nearby, not a farming strategy worth grinding.

How to Sell Stolen or Found Horses
Horses work differently from regular livestock. You cannot sell a stolen or found horse at the Livestock Black Market. They have their own buyer.
If you find a riderless horse after a fight or steal one from a town, you can’t register it as your own mount. But you can cash it in.
Where to sell: Head to Saddlewind Ranch, north of Hernand Town. Take the road east of the Hills of No Return until you reach a farming area near the Arboria Craftshop, then look north. Ride the stolen horse directly into the stable area marked on your map. The fence there handles the transaction automatically when you bring the horse in.
How to Sell Wild Tamed Horses
If you catch and tame a wild horse yourself — one that has no owner — it gets registered to you. That makes it legitimate property, which means no black market needed.
Take it to any Stable in any major town. Talk to the stable vendor, choose Manage Horses, select the horse, and press Sell.
You can also sell registered horses to the Stablemaster at Howling Hill camp once you complete the second camp expansion mission.
Big warning: Any gear on the horse when you sell it — saddle, horseshoes, armor — goes with it. You won’t get those items back. Always unequip everything before selling.

How to Sell Ranch Animals at Your Camp
Once you complete the Field of Abundance mission for the Greymanes faction, you unlock a full animal farm at Howling Hill. This lets you raise livestock legitimately — breed them, butcher them for materials, or sell them.
To sell a ranch animal, bring it to the middle stall inside the ranch area, the one with a coin signboard hanging above it. The NPC there — wearing an eye patch — will buy it from you.
The catch: payment here comes as camp funds, not silver coins. The money goes directly into your Howling Hill settlement to fund upgrades, not into your pocket. Keep that in mind if you’re hoping to use this for personal spending.

Quick Reference Table
| Animal Type | Seller Location | Payment |
|---|---|---|
| Stolen livestock (cows, pigs, goats, etc.) | Livestock Black Market (Hernand, Demeniss, Tashkalp) | Silver |
| Stolen/found horses | Saddlewind Ranch (Horse Fence) | Silver |
| Wild tamed horses (registered) | Any Stable / Howling Hill Stablemaster | Silver |
| Ranch-raised animals | Howling Hill ranch stall (coin signboard) | Camp Funds |
A Few Extra Tips
Don’t bother trying to sell wild creatures like lizards or birds to regular vendors. Standard shops won’t take them. The livestock-specific fences are the only buyers for animals in this game.
Stealing animals is risky for low reward. The silver values are small, and the alert system can cause real problems if you’re not fast. If you’re looking for consistent silver income, there are better methods in Crimson Desert.
Plan your route before stealing. Know where the nearest fence is before you grab an animal. Carrying a stolen duck across half the map only to trigger a bounty is not a fun time.
