TL;DR

  • Trade goods show up with a blue background in your inventory. Do not sell them to regular merchants — they will not buy them.
  • You can sell unpackaged trade goods directly at Goldleaf Tradeposts once you reach Chapter 3.
  • To trade goods in bulk by wagon, speak to Karl the Camp Provisioner at camp to package them. Each item costs 100 camp funds to pack.
  • You need to build your own wagon — stolen wagons cannot be used for legitimate trade runs.
  • Build a wagon through the Timberturner Wainwright mission. You need Brice (unlock via “A Rumor in Glenbright Farm”) and an Engineer Freesword like Arnold.
  • Sell packaged goods at the Goldleaf Guildhouse (minimum 25 stacks) or the Royal Trading Post (automatic on arrival).
  • Prices change on an in-game weekly basis — buy low, sell high.
  • Once goods are packaged they cannot be unpacked, so be sure before you confirm.

Trading in Crimson Desert is one of the best long-term ways to build wealth for your camp. But the system has a lot of moving parts. There is a difference between unpackaged and packed trade goods. There is a difference between personal silver and camp funds. And there is a whole chain of quests you need to complete before a wagon is even an option.

This guide walks through everything from start to finish — how to identify trade goods, how to package them, how to build a wagon, where to sell, and how to get more goods to sell in the first place.

What Are Trade Goods?

Trade goods are a special category of item in Crimson Desert. You can identify them easily — they have a blue background in your inventory, which makes them stand out from regular loot and materials.

Regular merchants will not buy trade goods. Do not waste time trying. You need to take them to a Trading Post or a Goldleaf Tradepost to sell them properly.

Trade goods also come in two forms:

Unpackaged trade goods — Items you pick up in the world or loot from enemies. You can sell these directly at Goldleaf Tradeposts once you hit Chapter 3, no wagon needed.

Packed trade goods — Goods processed by Karl at camp. These are what you load onto your wagon for bulk trading runs. Packing costs 100 camp funds per item and the process is irreversible — once packed, you cannot unpack them.

How to Sell Trade Goods Early — No Wagon Needed

You do not need a wagon to start selling trade goods. Once you complete Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 begins, Goldleaf Tradeposts unlock on the map. Their black market vendors will buy unpackaged trade goods directly for coppers and silver.

One confirmed early location is the Goldleaf Trading Post just east of Springtide Mill, southeast of Hernand. Look for the black market vendor there named Groks. Sell any trade goods clogging your inventory here while you work toward building a wagon.

This is the fastest way to convert early trade goods into personal coin.

How to Pack Trade Goods

Once you are ready for proper bulk trading, you need to package your goods. This is done at camp through Karl the Camp Provisioner (also called Carl in some menus).

Here is how to pack goods:

  1. Return to your camp and find Karl.
  2. Speak to him and select Camp Provisions from the menu.
  3. Choose items from your inventory to package.
  4. Click the Package Provisions button to confirm.

Each item costs 100 camp funds to package. Make sure you have enough funds before starting. Camp funds are separate from personal silver — they are your settlement’s resource, earned through dispatch missions and donations.

You can also package camp resources directly by pressing P on PC or L3 on controller. Every 1,000 camp resources becomes one packed trade good.

Important: Once an item is packaged it moves into the Camp Provisions section and cannot be unpacked. Double-check your selections before confirming.

How to Build a Wagon

You cannot use a stolen wagon for legitimate trade. Stolen wagons go straight to the Wagon Black Market — they are not yours to keep or load goods onto. To run proper trading trips, you need to build your own wagon.

This takes some quest progress. Here is the full chain:

Step 1 — Unlock Brice. Complete the quest “A Rumor in Glenbright Farm.” This recruits Brice, the wagon manager, to your camp. Once he is there, his personal request mission will unlock.

Step 2 — Complete Brice’s Request. Work through your Greymane Commissions until Brice’s Request appears — typically around Chapter 4. This sends you to the Timberturner Wainwright, located northeast of camp.

Step 3 — Get an Engineer Freesword. Building the wagon requires a Freesword with the Engineering skill. The easiest one to recruit is Arnold, unlocked by completing the “Rumor in St. Halssius” quest. Otto is another option from an earlier mission, though he needs time to develop the Engineering skill.

Step 4 — Order the wagon. Inspect Timberturner Wainwright on the map and open the mission list. Choose your wagon tier — there are three levels at different costs and slot counts. Bigger wagons carry more but take longer to build and need more workers.

Step 5 — Wait for construction, then speak to Brice. Once it is done, talk to Brice to complete his request and receive your wagon.

Where to Sell — Trading Centers Explained

Once your goods are packed and your wagon is loaded, you have two main selling options.

Royal Trading Post — Found inside large cities. The most convenient option. When you arrive with goods they are currently buying, the post takes them automatically via a short cutscene. No NPC interaction needed. The Royal Trading Post north of Hernand Castle is one confirmed location.

Goldleaf Guildhouse — Located south of Unicorn Cliff. Speak to Ugmon, the trading center manager, to buy or sell. Note that Goldleaf Guildhouse requires a minimum quantity of 25 stacks of any item to complete a sale — they will not buy smaller amounts. You also need to have earned trading rights here through main quest progress.

How to Transport Goods — Wagon vs Horse

You do not always need a wagon. For smaller loads or short trips, you can load packed goods onto your horse via the Stable. Speak to the Stablemaster and choose Load Supply to Mount. This is quicker for short runs but has much less capacity than a full wagon.

For larger trading runs, load goods onto your wagon through Brice at the Wagon Management Office. Choose your wagon, move your cargo in, and then drive manually to the Trading Center. You cannot fast travel with goods loaded, so plan your route before heading out.

How to Check Prices Before You Go

Do not drive your wagon to a Trading Center without checking what they want first. Here is how to do it quickly:

  1. Open your map and hover over a Trading Center.
  2. Press Inspect to see a full overview.
  3. Select the Trading Post tab.
  4. Scroll through Selling Items and Buying Items to see current stock and demand.

Prices in Crimson Desert change on an in-game weekly basis. The core strategy is simple: buy low, sell high. Watch for goods at Goldleaf Guildhouse priced below their usual value, pick up at least 25 stacks, and hold them until the price climbs before selling. Focus on high-value goods like Black Pepper rather than basic materials — most trading posts will not buy standard resources like stone, timber, or food.

You can also check price trends for each good at the Goldleaf Guildhouse by inspecting it on the map and checking the Trading Post tab. It shows what is currently cheap to buy and what is selling at a premium.

How to Get Trade Goods

You need goods before you can sell them. Here are all the ways to find them:

Pick up items with a scale icon. As you explore, some items in the world have a small scale symbol. These are stealable trade goods. Stealing builds bounty over time, so do not go overboard. Our guide on how to remove a bounty in Crimson Desert explains how to clear it.

Steal wagons or horses with attached goods. You can take a whole loaded wagon out in the world. Bring it to the Wagon Black Market north of Unicorn Cliff to sell it. You cannot use it for your own trading runs. See our guide on how to steal items for tips on staying under the radar.

Random loot while exploring. Trade goods occasionally appear as random drops. Not reliable, but free.

Quest rewards. Some quests give trade goods as rewards. Keep an eye on your inventory after completing main and faction quests.

Dispatch Missions. This is the most consistent and scalable method. Send Freeswords with rare or advanced skills on dispatch missions to produce trade goods passively. You need to progress the Greymane quest line to unlock Freeswords with the right skills. Our guides on how to get Comrades and how to research will help you build the right roster. Tips for Trading in Crimson Desert

  • Trade goods have a blue background in inventory. Never sell them to regular vendors — they will not buy them.
  • Sell unpackaged goods at Goldleaf Tradeposts as soon as Chapter 3 unlocks. Do not let them sit.
  • Once you package goods with Karl they cannot be unpacked. Be deliberate.
  • The Goldleaf Guildhouse requires at least 25 stacks per item to sell. Do not make the trip with less.
  • Check the Trading Post tab on the map before every wagon run. Prices shift weekly.
  • Focus on high-value goods — basic materials like stone and timber are not accepted at most trading posts.
  • Build trust with merchants over time for better prices. See our guide on merchant trust and trade agreements.
