Destiny 2: All Exotic Missions

Every Exotic Mission in Destiny 2 listed with rewards, how to access them, and what expansion they require. From The Whisper and Zero Hour to Oblation Bloodline and the weekly rotator missions.

TL;DR

  • Destiny 2 has over 10 playable Exotic Missions as of Monument of Triumph (June 2026).
  • Missions are accessed through Pinnacle Ops in the Director — the old Legends node is deprecated.
  • The weekly rotator cycles between Presage, Vox Obscura, and Operation: Seraph’s Shield.
  • The Whisper and Zero Hour are now permanent Pinnacle Ops with no rotator — run any time.
  • Oblation: Bloodline is the newest secret mission added in Monument of Triumph, rewarding Cull’s Shadow.
  • All current Exotic Missions are permanent — none are vaulted or time-limited in Monument of Triumph.

What Are Exotic Missions in Destiny 2?

Exotic Missions are a series of Quest Missions in Destiny 2 that serve as a means of acquiring certain Exotic weapons or armor. Many also feature secrets that allow players to earn unique cosmetic items such as Sparrows, jumpships, or Ghost shells.

They are distinct from standard Exotic quests in that they are fully self-contained missions with unique environments, puzzle mechanics, and lore. Most are significantly harder than standard story content and reward craftable Exotic weapons with patterns and catalyst upgrades tied to repeat completions.

With Monument of Triumph Update 9.7.0, all Exotic missions previously found in the old Legends node can now be launched from their respective sections in Pinnacle Ops in the Director. The old node has been deprecated. This change makes every Exotic Mission permanently accessible with no additional steps needed to locate them.

How Exotic Mission Rewards Work

Each Exotic Mission offers several rewards, including a specific craftable Exotic weapon, several Legendary weapons, and one armor set. The Exotic rewards are craftable. Here is how the reward structure works:

  • First completion on Normal or Legendary difficulty awards the Exotic Deepsight weapon associated with the mission (until the pattern is unlocked).
  • Each completion of the Normal or Legendary version awards an intrinsic upgrade that can be used when crafting the Exotic weapon.
  • Each Legendary difficulty completion awards a Catalyst upgrade for the crafted Exotic weapon.
  • Hidden secrets inside many missions unlock additional cosmetics — Sparrows, ships, shaders, and Ghost shells — for players who explore thoroughly.

All Currently Playable Exotic Missions

The Whisper (Pinnacle Ops — Permanent)

Exotic Reward: Whisper of the Worm (Solar Heavy Sniper Rifle)

The Whisper is the ultimate blueprint that all other Exotic Missions are compared with. It began with a mysterious anomaly and resulted in a remarkably creepy and parkour-heavy adventure. Its reward is a Taken combination of the Black Spindle and the Black Hammer sniper rifles from the first Destiny.

Following Monument of Triumph Update 9.7.0, The Whisper has officially joined Pinnacle Ops as a permanent addition. Old inventory quests are deprecated and Exotic rewards now drop directly upon activity completion, while hidden secrets remain fully active for triumph hunters. Triumphs include completing the mission without dying, completing it solo, completing it under 13 minutes, and summoning all three bosses simultaneously before defeating them.

Whisper of the Worm is one of the top boss DPS weapons in the game in 2026. See our PvE weapons tier list for how it ranks in the current meta.

Zero Hour (Pinnacle Ops — Permanent)

Exotic Reward: Outbreak Perfected (Kinetic Pulse Rifle)

Zero Hour was the second standalone Exotic mission released for Destiny 2. It leaned heavily into its maze-like structure and is set in the Tower itself. It is quite special due to its setting, its cosmetic rewards, and the coveted Outbreak Perfected.

Zero Hour requires players to infiltrate secure vaults, bypass automated security systems, and navigate the infamous ventilation shafts guarded by the rogue security unit TR3-VR. Monument of Triumph added a mid-activity loot chest as a quality-of-life improvement, rewarding teams for solid progress through the maze before the final encounter against Siriks.

Triumphs include completing the mission without dying, completing it under 15 minutes, and completing it on Expert difficulty or higher in Pinnacle Ops.

Outbreak Perfected is one of the best Exotic pulse rifles in the game for PvP and PvE after the Monument of Triumph primary buff. For full details, see our best Exotic weapons guide.

Presage (Weekly Rotator)

Exotic Reward: Dead Man’s Tale (Exotic Kinetic Scout Rifle)

Presage came about as a celebration of Destiny’s niche forays into horror territory. It is one of the most immersive spaces the Destiny franchise has to offer. The normal difficulty variant is not timed, so players can explore freely. Presage is the source of Dead Man’s Tale, a unique Exotic Scout Rifle that is now craftable.

The weekly mission rotation rotates between Presage, Vox Obscura, and Operation: Seraph’s Shield. Check the Director each Tuesday at reset to see which rotator mission is active that week.

Vox Obscura (Weekly Rotator)

Exotic Reward: Dead Messenger (Exotic Void Wave-Frame Grenade Launcher)

Vox Obscura is a high-octane romp directly through the Emperor Calus’ loyalist Cabal to take down a dangerous Psion commander. Tank combat on the face of Mars. The mission is timed, but has noticeably fewer mechanics than the other two rotator missions. Completing Vox Obscura rewards Dead Messenger — an Exotic wave-frame grenade launcher that can utilize all three Light elements, making it a great counter to missions with high elemental shield density.

Operation: Seraph’s Shield (Weekly Rotator)

Exotic Reward: Revision Zero (Exotic Kinetic Pulse Rifle)

Operation: Seraph’s Shield is one of the few previously-sunset Exotic Missions that have been re-released in an updated format. The unique Revision Zero Exotic pulse rifle has several different upgrades you need to work through by playing Seraph’s Shield. The mission is uniquely suited to repeat playthroughs, taking players through almost half a dozen unique combat encounters and puzzle rooms in one go.

This mission is a smaller-scale version of the Deep Stone Crypt raid’s setting. Its premise involves breaching a BrayTech orbital platform that has been compromised, outmaneuvering the collective forces of House Salvation and Xivu Arath’s Hive, and uploading a vital virus to secure the Warmind network.

Oblation: Bloodline (Moon — Secret Mission)

Exotic Reward: Cull’s Shadow (Exotic Poison Fusion Rifle)

Oblation: Bloodline is the newest Exotic Mission in Destiny 2, added with Monument of Triumph on June 9, 2026. It is a secret Exotic Mission on the Moon that does not appear on the map by default. You must unlock it through a multi-step secret questline starting inside the Scarlet Keep Strike. A Weapon of Sorrow is mandatory throughout the entire unlock process and inside the mission itself — Thorn, Osteo Striga, Necrochasm, or Touch of Malice all qualify.

Oblation: Bloodline is the first of three missions in the Oblation chain. Soulfed and Immolation follow, awarding all four Soulfire catalysts for Cull’s Shadow. For the full unlock walkthrough, see our Oblation: Bloodline Exotic Mission guide and the Cull’s Shadow guide. For all four Cull’s Shadow catalysts, see our Cull’s Shadow catalysts guide.

Warlord’s Ruin (Dungeon with Exotic Mission Elements)

Exotic Reward: Buried Bloodline (Void Sidearm)

Warlord’s Ruin is technically a dungeon but features an Exotic Mission-style secret quest tied to it. Buried Bloodline drops from the dungeon and has become one of the best Special weapons for survivability builds in 2026 due to its Devour and Weaken interaction. The dungeon has its own triumph challenges including the Warlord’s Jailbreak challenge. See our Warlord’s Jailbreak triumph guide for details.

Wolfsbane (The Plaguelands — Pinnacle Ops)

Exotic Reward: Wolfsbane (Exotic Axe)

Return to the Plaguelands to finish what Maya began with her daring heist on the Vanguard vault. The Conductor seeks to expand the reach of her Echo using abandoned warsat technology. Storm the Golden Age facility alongside psionic allies to ruin Maya’s plans and claim the Wolfsbane Exotic Axe. For how to get this weapon, see our Wolfsbane guide.

Exotic Missions No Longer Available

Some older Exotic Missions were vaulted with previous content updates and are not currently accessible:

  • Harbinger — Hawkmoon (EDZ): Sunset. The mission is not currently in the rotator or Pinnacle Ops, though Hawkmoon itself is sold by Xur.
  • The Other Side — Bad Juju (Ascendant Plane): Sunset with Beyond Light. Bad Juju is now available from the Monument to Lost Lights in the Tower.
  • A Hollow Coronation — Ager’s Scepter: Sunset with The Witch Queen DLC. Ager’s Scepter is available from the Monument to Lost Lights.

Over time, some Exotic Missions have been moved to the Destiny Content Vault and are no longer accessible in their original form. Bungie has shown a willingness to bring back popular missions through the Exotic Mission Rotator or special updates. Even if a mission is currently unavailable, it may return in the future.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Exotic Missions

  • Check the weekly rotator every Tuesday. The three rotator missions cycle each week at reset. If you need Dead Man’s Tale, Dead Messenger, or Revision Zero, check which mission is active before committing time to other content.
  • Run Legendary difficulty for catalyst progress. Normal difficulty completes the mission and gives your Exotic weapon, but Legendary difficulty additionally rewards Catalyst upgrades with each run. If you want a fully upgraded crafted Exotic, plan to run Legendary multiple times.
  • Explore every mission for hidden secrets. Most Exotic Missions have hidden chests, secret rooms, and lore items that unlock cosmetics. The Whisper’s hidden oracle sequence, Zero Hour’s Fallen wings, and Presage’s hidden compartments all reward unique cosmetics for thorough explorers.
  • Bring a Weapon of Sorrow for Oblation. Thorn is the easiest to obtain from the Monument to Lost Lights if you do not already own one. Without a Weapon of Sorrow equipped, the Hive rune steps will not work and you cannot unlock or progress the mission chain.
  • The Whisper is the best starting point for new players. If you are a solo player or a returning Guardian looking to maximize your time, start with The Whisper. The jumping puzzles can be practiced at your own pace, and learning the shortcut routes will significantly lower the pressure of the timer.
