Destiny 2: Warlord’s Jailbreak Triumph Guide

Learn how to complete the Warlord's Jailbreak triumph in Destiny 2. Free other Guardians from their cages during the Rathil encounter in Warlord's Ruin dungeon.

TL;DR

  • The Warlord’s Jailbreak triumph requires you to free other Guardians from their cages during the Rathil encounter in Warlord’s Ruin.
  • You must shoot the three Taken Eyes around your teammate’s cage, not your own.
  • Shooting even one of your own Taken Eyes will fail the triumph.
  • You need at least two players. Solo players cannot complete this triumph.
  • Complete the full Rathil encounter after freeing everyone to earn the triumph.

What Is the Warlord’s Jailbreak Triumph?

The Warlord’s Jailbreak triumph is a Monument of Triumph challenge tied to the Warlord’s Ruin dungeon. The official description reads: complete the Rathil encounter while freeing other Guardians from their cages.

It sounds simple, but the wording trips people up. The triumph does not just require escaping your cage. It requires that other Guardians free you and that you free them. If anyone shoots their own Taken Eyes, the triumph fails immediately. This is a cooperative challenge that forces teammates to rely on each other to break out.

This triumph is part of the Teamwork: Dungeon Challenges category in Monument of Triumph and rewards Legendary Marks upon completion.

Warlord’s Ruin is a dungeon set in a dark age castle in the snowy mountains of the European Dead Zone. Warlord’s Ruin takes place in the snowy mountains of the EDZ in a medieval castle. The Guardians must climb the mountains to find out why the Taken has a presence on Earth.

To start the dungeon, pick up the “In the Shadow of the Mountain” quest from Ikora Rey in the Tower, then find the Dungeon node on the right side of the EDZ map in the Director. You do not need to be on a specific difficulty for the Warlord’s Jailbreak triumph. Normal difficulty is fine.

You need at least two players to complete this triumph. You will need a second Guardian for this challenge, so try out some LFGs. Use the in-game Fireteam Finder or any LFG platform to find a partner if you do not have one.

How the Rathil Encounter Works

Rathil is the first boss encounter in Warlord’s Ruin. Before you can attempt the Warlord’s Jailbreak triumph, you need to understand the core mechanics of this fight.

The Imminent Wish Timer

This boss fight introduces the Imminent Wish and Blighted Eye mechanic, which will be seen throughout the rest of the dungeon. Imminent Wish allows players to stand in specific areas with corrupted Ether Totems and cleanse them for 30 seconds. The more totems you cleanse before the timer hits zero, the longer your damage phase will be.

The Cage Mechanic

After some time, Rathil will activate the Imminent Wish buff and teleport Guardians into cages elevated above the arena. To escape before being impaled by the spikes, Guardians will need to shoot the three Blighted Eyes surrounding their cage. Each cage has exactly three Taken Eyes. Destroy them all and the cage door opens, dropping you back into the arena.

Under normal gameplay, you shoot your own cage’s eyes to escape. For the Warlord’s Jailbreak triumph, you do the opposite.

How to Complete the Warlord’s Jailbreak Triumph

The key rule is simple: shoot your teammate’s Taken Eyes, not your own.

Look to your friend who’s also in a cage, and you’ll see three Taken Eyes around their cage. Shoot these three Taken Eyes quickly to open their cage, and they need to do the same to you. If you shoot your own Taken Eyes, even one of them, the triumph will fail.

Here is the step-by-step process:

  1. Start the Rathil encounter and defeat the initial waves of Scorn.
  2. Wait for Rathil to summon the Imminent Wish. You will be teleported into individual hanging cages above the arena.
  3. Once in your cage, do not shoot any Taken Eyes near your own cage.
  4. Look toward your teammate’s cage and identify the three Taken Eyes surrounding it.
  5. Shoot all three of your teammate’s Taken Eyes to open their cage.
  6. Your teammate does the same to your cage simultaneously.
  7. Once free, drop down and cleanse as many totems as possible before the Imminent Wish timer ends.
  8. Deal damage to Rathil during the damage phase and defeat him.
  9. If Rathil survives the first phase, repeat the cage mechanic correctly on subsequent cycles until he is dead.

Playing With Three Guardians

If you’re playing as a team of three, it’s easier to go clockwise. That way, everyone is shooting the cell on their right. Assign directions before the encounter starts so nobody gets confused mid-cage and accidentally shoots their own eyes.

Common Mistakes That Fail the Triumph

  • Shooting your own Taken Eyes. This is the most common failure. Even one accidental shot at your own cage’s eyes voids the triumph for the entire run. You have to restart the encounter.
  • Not communicating with your team. If one player doesn’t know the rule and instinctively shoots their own cage, the triumph fails. Make sure everyone in your fireteam knows the mechanic before you begin.
  • Panic shooting during the cage phase. The 30-second Imminent Wish timer creates pressure. Some players rush and accidentally fire at nearby eyes. Focus only on your teammate’s cage and ignore everything around your own.
  • Attempting it solo. This triumph requires another Guardian to free you. It cannot be completed alone.

What to Do After the Cage Phase

Once you and your teammates are free from the cages, you still need to complete the encounter. Drop down into the arena and start cleansing Taken totems before the Imminent Wish timer expires.

To cleanse a totem, stand near it for a total of eight seconds. Each totem you cleanse will add time to the DPS phase, so you’ll want to cleanse as many totems as you can. Once the timer hits zero, Rathil becomes vulnerable. Burn him down with your best damage setup. If he survives the first phase, the encounter resets and you go back into cages. Repeat the cage mechanic correctly each time until Rathil is dead.

Tips for Warlord’s Jailbreak

  • Call out your position. As soon as you are teleported into cages, confirm with your team who is freeing who. In a two-player group, you each take the other person. In a three-player group, go clockwise.
  • Use a weapon with good aim assist for the cage phase. The Taken Eyes are small targets at a distance. A hand cannon or scout rifle with good range makes them easier to hit cleanly without stray shots.
  • Restart the encounter if someone makes a mistake. If you or a teammate accidentally shoots their own Taken Eye, wipe immediately and reset. Do not waste time finishing the encounter for a triumph that already failed.
  • You can attempt this on Normal difficulty. There is no requirement to run Master for the Jailbreak triumph. Normal is faster, less punishing, and makes the cage phase much lower pressure.
