Destiny 2 Dungeons in Order – All 11 Listed by Release Date (2026)

Destiny 2 dungeons in order of release, from Shattered Throne to Equilibrium. Every dungeon, date, exotic weapon, and how to access each one.

  • There are 11 dungeons in Destiny 2 as of 2026, starting with Shattered Throne in 2018 and ending with Equilibrium in late 2025.
  • Dungeons are 3-player activities — easier to organize than raids but still mechanically demanding.
  • Most dungeons require a paid expansion or a Dungeon Key to access. Prophecy is the only free exception.
  • Each dungeon has a weekly farmable rotation except the newest one, which sits outside the rotation until it cycles in.
  • Ten of the 11 dungeons have a dedicated Exotic weapon. Prophecy does not.
  • Dungeons range from beginner-friendly (Shattered Throne) to brutally hard (Warlord’s Ruin, Sundered Doctrine).
  • All dungeons are still in the game — none have been vaulted.

Destiny 2 dungeons in order are: Shattered Throne, Pit of Heresy, Prophecy, Grasp of Avarice, Duality, Spire of the Watcher, Ghosts of the Deep, Warlord’s Ruin, Vesper’s Host, Sundered Doctrine, and Equilibrium. This list covers every dungeon by release date, the Exotic tied to each, and what you need to access them in 2026.

What Is a Dungeon in Destiny 2?

Dungeons sit between Nightfalls and raids in terms of complexity. They are 3-player endgame activities with multi-stage encounters, mechanics-heavy boss fights, and dedicated loot pools.

Bungie introduced dungeons with the Forsaken expansion in 2018. The format has evolved a lot since then — early dungeons had no dedicated loot, while newer ones feature full weapon sets, armor sets, Exotic drops, and Contest Modes that rival raid launch weekends.

Each week, one dungeon is featured in the rotation. That dungeon becomes infinitely farmable and rewards Pinnacle gear. Newer dungeons stay outside the rotation until Bungie adds them in.

All Destiny 2 Dungeons in Release Order

1. Shattered Throne – September 25, 2018

Expansion: Forsaken | Location: Dreaming City | Exotic: Wish-Ender (Combat Bow)

Shattered Throne was the first dungeon Bungie ever released. It launched as part of the Forsaken DLC and didn’t have its own loot pool at first — drops were pulled from Dreaming City gear. The Wish-Ender Exotic bow was eventually added as its dedicated reward.

Bosses: Vorgeth, the Boundless Hunger and Dul Incaru, the Eternal Return.

By 2026 standards, Shattered Throne is the easiest dungeon in the game. The encounters are simple, and the mechanics don’t ask much of you. It’s a solid first dungeon if you’re working your way in.

2. Pit of Heresy – October 29, 2019

Expansion: Shadowkeep | Location: Moon | Exotic: Xenophage (Machine Gun)

Pit of Heresy sits on the Moon and leans heavily on Hive lore. The Xenophage is a Solar machine gun that’s been used in endgame PvE for years — still relevant in 2026 for certain builds.

Boss: Zulmak, Instrument of Torment.

This dungeon introduced the idea of a dedicated Exotic tied specifically to a dungeon encounter. It set the template every dungeon after it would follow.

3. Prophecy – June 9, 2020

Expansion: None required | Location: Reef | Exotic: None

Prophecy is the only dungeon in Destiny 2 that’s free to play. You don’t need any expansion or Dungeon Key to access it. If you’re new and want to experience dungeon mechanics without spending money, this is where you start.

Bosses: Phalanx Echo and Kell Echo.

The dungeon takes place in a Taken-themed environment and is visually one of the most distinct in the game. There is no Exotic weapon tied to Prophecy.

4. Grasp of Avarice – December 7, 2021

Expansion: Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack | Location: Cosmodrome | Exotic: Gjallarhorn (Rocket Launcher)

Grasp of Avarice launched with Bungie’s 30th Anniversary content and turned the original Destiny 1 Loot Cave into a full dungeon. The reward was Gjallarhorn — one of the most iconic weapons in Destiny history, returning in Destiny 2 for the first time.

Bosses: Phry’zhia the Insatiable, Fallen Shield, and Captain Avarokk the Covetous.

This is a fan favourite for its theme and its loot. If you care about Destiny history, it’s worth playing.

5. Duality – May 27, 2022

Expansion: The Witch Queen | Location: Derelict Leviathan | Exotic: Heartshadow (Sword)

Duality returned players to the Derelict Leviathan — Calus’s ship, last seen in the Leviathan raid. The dungeon shifts between the physical world and a dreamscape version of it, which is where most of the mechanics live.

Bosses: Caiatl’s Loyalist Commander and Nightmare of Gahlran.

Heartshadow is a Void Exotic sword that became a staple in certain PvP and PvE setups due to its invisibility perk on kills.

6. Spire of the Watcher – December 9, 2022

Expansion: Season of the Seraph | Location: Mars (Bray Exoscience) | Exotic: Hierarchy of Needs (Bow)

Spire of the Watcher is a Vex and BrayTech dungeon set on Mars. The Hierarchy of Needs Exotic bow summons tracking missiles on final blows — one of the more unusual Exotic mechanics in the game.

Bosses: Akelous the Siren’s Current and Persys, Primordial Ruin.

This dungeon has a strong reputation for platforming sections that can frustrate new players. The Arc-themed mechanics are also tighter than earlier dungeons.

7. Ghosts of the Deep – May 23, 2023

Expansion: Season of the Deep | Location: Titan (Ocean) | Exotic: Indebted Kindness (Auto-Loading Sidearm)

Ghosts of the Deep brought back Titan — the flooded moon that was vaulted — and took the dungeon entirely underwater. This was the first dungeon to feature full underwater traversal sections, making movement feel different from anything else in the game.

Bosses: Ecthar, Sword of Savathûn and Simmumah ur-Nokru, Lucent Necromancer.

The dungeon is set in a sunken Hive city and connects heavily to Savathûn’s storyline. The Indebted Kindness sidearm quickly found a PvE niche as an anti-barrier option.

8. Warlord’s Ruin – December 1, 2023

Expansion: Season of the Wish | Location: European Dead Zone | Exotic: Dragonsoul (Rocket Launcher)

Warlord’s Ruin is set in a ruined castle in the EDZ and tells the story of Guardian Fikrul’s defeat of an old warlord. It’s one of the tougher dungeons for mechanics, and many players consider it one of the best-designed overall.

Bosses: Unstoppable Colossi (encounter), Rathil, First Broken Knight of Fikrul, and Hefnd’s Vengeance, Blighted Chimaera.

The Dragonsoul rocket launcher has unique Stasis perks and functions as a strong DPS option in raids and endgame content.

9. Vesper’s Host – October 11, 2024

Expansion: Final Shape Dungeon Key | Location: Europa (Bray Space Station) | Exotic: Ice Breaker (Sniper Rifle)

Vesper’s Host was the first dungeon in Destiny 2 to feature a World’s First Race with Contest Mode — a format previously reserved for raids. It launched on October 11, 2024, three days after Episode Revenant.

Bosses: Unified Servitor and Corrupted Puppeteer.

Ice Breaker returns from Destiny 1 as a Stasis sniper rifle. Its original perk regenerated ammo over time — the Destiny 2 version carries a reworked version of that mechanic. To access Vesper’s Host, you need to pick up the Rogue Network quest from Spider and hold the Final Shape Dungeon Key.

10. Sundered Doctrine – February 7, 2025

Expansion: Final Shape Dungeon Key | Location: Savathûn’s Throne World (Rhulk’s Pyramid Ship) | Exotic: Finality’s Auger (Linear Fusion Rifle)

Sundered Doctrine launched during Episode Heresy and took players back inside Rhulk’s Pyramid Ship — a location last explored in the Vow of the Disciple raid. The dungeon reuses the symbol-based callout mechanics from that raid, so experience with Vow of the Disciple gives you a head start.

The dungeon features Dread and Hive enemies, two boss fights, and some of the most intricate puzzle encounters in any dungeon released to date. Many players rate Sundered Doctrine as the most mechanically demanding dungeon in the game.

To enter, you need the Final Shape Dungeon Key and the Drowning Labyrinth quest picked up from Ikora Rey at the Tower. Recommended Power Level for normal mode: 1995. Finality’s Auger is a linear fusion rifle with strong boss DPS potential. See our Immortal Title guide for related Monument of Triumph content.

11. Equilibrium – December 13, 2025

Expansion: Renegades | Location: Venus | Exotic: Heirloom (Exotic Solar Combat Bow)

Equilibrium is the newest dungeon in Destiny 2, released with the Renegades expansion on December 13, 2025. It takes Guardians to Venus, where you infiltrate a Barant Imperium capital ship and face Dredgen bosses across multiple encounters.

Bosses: Two main boss encounters with traversal sections between them.

The Heirloom Exotic bow fires high-powered explosive bolts and has an Anti-Unstoppable stun built in. Check our full Heirloom guide for perks and catalyst details. The dungeon also introduced the Collective Sage armor set, which has sword-focused 2-piece and 4-piece bonuses — a direct complement to the Praxic Blade from the Renegades campaign. To access Equilibrium, purchase the Renegades expansion and complete the introductory quest The Way Between from Aunor in the Tharsis Outpost. You must be at Step 5 of the main story quest before the dungeon unlocks. See our Equilibrium relic locations guide for full collectible coverage.

Which Destiny 2 Dungeon Should You Play First?

If you’re new to dungeons, start with Prophecy. It’s free, it’s available to everyone, and it teaches you the basics of dungeon mechanics without requiring a team of veterans.

After that, work through them in release order. Each dungeon escalates in complexity. Playing them in sequence is the best way to understand how Bungie’s encounter design has evolved.

If you want the best current loot, jump straight to Equilibrium or Sundered Doctrine. Both reward weapons that are useful across all 2026 endgame content.

Destiny 2 Dungeon Access – What Do You Need to Buy?

Free: Prophecy requires nothing. Any Guardian can play it.

Final Shape Dungeon Key: Gives access to Vesper’s Host and Sundered Doctrine without buying the full expansions they launched alongside. This is the cheapest option if you only want those two dungeons.

Renegades expansion: Required for Equilibrium. There is no standalone Dungeon Key option for this one — you need the full expansion.

Older dungeons like Shattered Throne, Pit of Heresy, Grasp of Avarice, Duality, Spire of the Watcher, Ghosts of the Deep, and Warlord’s Ruin are included with their respective expansions or seasonal content purchases. Check the in-game Collections or the Dungeon tab for current access requirements if you’re unsure what you already own.

Destiny 2 Dungeon Weekly Rotation – How It Works

Every week, Bungie features one dungeon. That dungeon can be farmed without the normal per-encounter loot lockout. It also rewards a piece of Pinnacle gear on first completion each week.

The newest dungeon — currently Equilibrium — is not part of the rotation. It goes in once Bungie cycles it in, typically after a few months.

Check the in-game Director or the Destiny 2 API tools to see which dungeon is featured this week. The rotation changes at the weekly reset on Tuesdays.

Destiny 2 Dungeon Exotic Weapons – All 10 Listed

Ten of the 11 dungeons have a dedicated Exotic. Here’s the full list:

  • Wish-Ender – Kinetic Combat Bow – Shattered Throne
  • Xenophage – Solar Machine Gun – Pit of Heresy
  • Gjallarhorn – Solar Rocket Launcher – Grasp of Avarice
  • Heartshadow – Void Sword – Duality
  • Hierarchy of Needs – Solar Bow – Spire of the Watcher
  • Indebted Kindness – Solar Sidearm – Ghosts of the Deep
  • Dragonsoul – Stasis Rocket Launcher – Warlord’s Ruin
  • Ice Breaker – Stasis Sniper Rifle – Vesper’s Host
  • Finality’s Auger – Void Linear Fusion Rifle – Sundered Doctrine
  • Heirloom – Solar Combat Bow – Equilibrium

Each Exotic is guaranteed during the dungeon’s Contest Mode first clear. Outside of Contest Mode, Exotics drop randomly from the final boss. Completing Triumphs tied to each dungeon increases the drop chance. See our new catalysts guide for Monument of Triumph weapon catalyst details.

Are All Destiny 2 Dungeons Still Available in 2026?

Yes. All 11 dungeons are available in 2026. No dungeon has been vaulted. This puts dungeons in a better position than raids, where several older activities were removed during the Destiny Content Vault era.

Bungie has not announced any plans to vault dungeons. Given their smaller scope compared to raids, it’s likely they stay in the game long-term.

If you’re chasing the Immortal Title or other Monument of Triumph rewards, several Triumphs require completing specific older dungeons — so the full back catalogue still matters for dedicated players in 2026.
