Destiny 2: How to Get Gravitic Doctorate – All Graviton Spike Intrinsics & Catalysts

Destiny 2 Gravitic Doctorate Triumph guide — all 3 Graviton Spike intrinsic locations and all 12 catalyst fragments across Kepler, by difficulty tier.

TL;DR

  • Gravitic Doctorate is a Triumph in Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate that tracks all Graviton Spike intrinsics and catalyst fragments.
  • You need to collect 3 intrinsics and 12 catalyst fragments (3 per catalyst, 4 catalysts total) hidden across Kepler.
  • Intrinsics and the first two catalysts (Rapid Hit and Subsistence) require Fabled world tier or higher.
  • The final two catalysts (Transcendent Zen and Temporal Alignment) require Mythic world tier — enemies scale to Power 270 while you cap at 220.
  • Every puzzle follows the same core mechanic: shoot the Arc bud with Arc mode → shoot the Stasis crystal with Stasis mode → enter Matterspark and go through the stopped fan.
  • Completing Gravitic Doctorate is required for the Fated Weapon Title, one of Destiny 2’s final Titles added in Edge of Fate.
  • If a boss fight bugs out during a Mythic catalyst run, transmat out and return to reset the encounter — the boss won’t respawn otherwise.

Destiny 2 Gravitic Doctorate is a Triumph that requires finding every hidden upgrade for the Graviton Spike Exotic hand cannon across Kepler. It’s not a traditional quest — you’re hunting down blue-glowing Arc bud flowers scattered through the destination’s most remote corners, solving small environmental puzzles to unlock each piece. There are 15 total collectibles: 3 intrinsics and 12 catalyst fragments split across two difficulty tiers. This guide covers all of them in full.

What Is the Graviton Spike?

The Graviton Spike is a craftable Exotic Hand Cannon introduced in Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate (July 2025). It operates on a dual-element system — you can switch between Arc mode and Stasis mode on the fly using the Alternate Weapon Action button.

Its two core perks are:

  • Temporal Manipulation (Intrinsic): Press the alternate fire button to swap between fast-firing Arc mode and slow-firing Stasis mode. Final blows and precision hits overcharge the opposing mode, enabling additional effects.
  • Temporal Anomaly (Trait): While overcharged, Arc mode calls down lightning strikes on precision hits and final blows. Stasis mode creates an explosion and a formation of Stasis crystals. These effects trigger subclass verbs — Arc mode can amplify and Stasis mode can freeze — making Graviton Spike relevant in both PvE and PvP builds.

Graviton Spike comes with a guaranteed Deepsight Resonance on your first copy. Extract the pattern at the Enclave on Mars so you can craft additional copies with different rolls.

How to Get Graviton Spike First

You can’t start on Gravitic Doctorate without the weapon itself. To get Graviton Spike:

  • Complete the Edge of Fate main campaign — the Exotic quest doesn’t unlock until after the final mission.
  • Visit the Altar of Relativity in Kepler and pick up the Graviton Through the Ages exotic quest from Lodi.
  • Collect all four weapon parts hidden across Kepler’s four main regions — Outer Steppes, Curtilage Divide, the Gorge, and the path toward the Singularity.
  • Complete a Sieve activity (launched from the Kepler map icon) to earn the finished Graviton Spike from the end-of-activity chest.

Finishing the campaign also unlocks your Matterspark transformation — the ability to transform into a ball form and roll through tight spaces and fan blades. This is used in almost every single puzzle in the Gravitic Doctorate chain.

How the Arc Bud Puzzle Works

Every collectible in the Gravitic Doctorate chain uses the same interaction loop. Learn it once and the rest becomes pattern recognition:

  • Find the blue-glowing Arc bud (a closed flower pod) in the area.
  • Shoot it with Graviton Spike’s Arc mode — this causes the flower to bloom open, revealing a large Stasis crystal inside.
  • Quickly switch to Stasis mode and shoot the crystal a few times to shatter it — this slows or stops the nearby spinning fan for a few seconds.
  • You have a short window. Immediately transform into Matterspark and roll through the fan blades before they spin back up.
  • Collect the intrinsic or catalyst fragment in the room or alcove beyond.

Many puzzles add extra steps — grabbing Mattermorph to move objects, using a Relocator Cannon to teleport through locked doors, or clearing enemy rooms first. The core flower mechanic is always the same, but the path to getting there varies.

All Graviton Spike Intrinsic Locations

There are three intrinsics to collect. They unlock the upgraded versions of the Temporal Manipulation perk (Temporal Manipulation II, III, and IV). You can collect them in any order. No specific world tier is required — these are available on standard Kepler.

Intrinsic 1 – Caldera

Go behind the main Caldera building, past the Postmaster and near a fallen vent. Look for a Matterspark tunnel on the ground. Drop into it and follow through the vents. At the first opportunity, turn left. You’ll come out into a small room with an Arc bud on the right and a fan on the left. Shoot the Arc bud, then immediately switch to Stasis and shatter the crystal. Enter Matterspark and go through the stopped fan. The first intrinsic is in a glowing box on the other side.

Intrinsic 2 – Curtilage Divide (Exile’s Accord)

Temporal Manipulation Intrinsic 2 Location
Temporal Manipulation Intrinsic 2 Location

This intrinsic is in the large cavern area of Curtilage Divide. You’re looking for the eastern wall near a hanging box with a Relocator pad. The Arc bud extends from a small building to the left of that pad.

Before you activate the flower, you need Mattermorph. From the hanging box, walk directly away from the laser wall and look up — Mattermorph is on a higher ledge. Grab it, then return to the Arc bud. Shoot the flower, shatter the crystal, then use Mattermorph on the metal sheets blocking access to the left of the laser barrier. This creates an opening. Enter Matterspark, roll through the now-still fan, and pick up the second intrinsic on the ground.

Intrinsic 3 – The Gorge

Temporal Manipulation Intrinsic 3 Location

Fast travel to the Assimilated Easement spawn point in the Gorge. Move past the mission banner and go right. Run past the Hydra. When you see the banner for the Calculus mission, go through the nearby train to the other side. Follow the tunnels until you reach a ledge, then go right. Keep going until you find a Matterspark tunnel. Enter it and follow the path to an abandoned building at the far right. Go through the open door and look up — the Arc bud is above you.

Make your way up to the flower and shoot it. Immediately transform into Matterspark and go through the small tunnel directly beside you. The final intrinsic is waiting in the room beyond.

All Graviton Spike Catalyst Fragment Locations

There are four catalysts, each requiring three fragments — 12 total. The first two catalysts (Rapid Hit and Subsistence) require Fabled world tier. The last two (Transcendent Zen and Temporal Alignment) require Mythic world tier. Switch world tiers from the Kepler destination node before launching.

Catalyst 1: Rapid Hit (Fabled Required)

Effect: Rapid precision hits temporarily increase stability and reload speed.

Rapid Hit Fragment 1 – Outer Steppes

Head from Caldera through the train portal into the Outer Steppes. Turn right through the small doorway until you reach the large open area where you fought the first Servitor boss during the campaign. Look for the Relocator Cannon on a cliff ledge — walk to the arena edge and jump left to find it. The Relocator teleporter pad is on another hidden ledge around the corner. Use the Relocator, find the Arc bud, shoot it, shatter the crystal, and enter Matterspark to collect Fragment 1 through the fan.

Rapid Hit Fragment 2 – Exile’s Accord

From Curtilage Divide, head to Augur’s Bethel. Past a red heating pipe, turn right to the back wall and take the Matterspark portal. This leads to an area with an Arc bud next to a fan, guarded by lasers and a Relocator lock. Find the Relocator Cannon, use it to shoot through the lock, activate the Arc bud and shatter the crystal, then roll through the fan to collect Fragment 2.

Rapid Hit Fragment 3 – Path to the Singularity

Navigate through the Matterspark portal under Caldera toward the Singularity (the same route used in the late campaign). Pass the first short Relocator puzzle and progress until you can grab Mattermorph. Head into the room revealed by Mattermorph, clear all enemies, and find the Arc bud on the back wall. There’s a hidden passage below and to the right of the bud. Shoot the flower, shatter the crystal, go through the fan, and collect Fragment 3. Don’t fast travel away yet — the first Subsistence fragment is close by.

Catalyst 2: Subsistence (Fabled Required)

Effect: Defeating targets partially reloads the magazine from reserves.

Subsistence Fragment 1 – Singularity (Continuing from Rapid Hit 3)

Graviton Spike Subsistence Catalyst 1

From where you grabbed the third Rapid Hit fragment, keep going deeper rather than fast traveling out. Past the Minotaur boss room, instead of going left and down, look up. Jump onto the platform above the large fungal growth, turn around, and jump to the smaller platform above it. Go through the small hole, and look left across a gap — the Arc bud is on the far side next to a stone fan. Shoot the flower, shatter the crystal, roll through the fan, and collect Fragment 1.

Subsistence Fragment 2 – Curtilage Divide (Exile’s Accord Train)

Graviton Spike Subsistence Catalyst 2

Fast travel to the Curtilage Divide landing zone and head through the nearby Matterspark portal. Keep left through the portal and go through the one in the next room. Turn around and take the Nine train deeper into Kepler. Jump left down onto the train tracks and proceed a short distance until you see the Arc bud guarded by lasers next to a fan. Use the nearby Relocator Cannon to bypass the laser lock, then shoot the flower, shatter the crystal, and roll through to collect Fragment 2. Be quick — timing is tight with the Relocator involved.

Subsistence Fragment 3 – Outer Wastes

Graviton Spike Subsistence Catalyst 3

Head northwest to the Outer Wastes. Make your way through the structure ruins until you find a Matterweave cluster. You’re looking for a puzzle involving a Relocator Cannon, a Vex pylon, and a central fan. Use Matterweave to move rocks in the middle of the area. Shoot the rotating satellite unit so it points down. Use the Relocator Cannon to activate a portal, which teleports you near the Vex pylon. Transform into Matterspark and attack the pylon to unlock the cage around you. Jump to the platform, use Graviton Spike to activate the pod nearby, enter Matterspark, and squeeze inside the fan to reach Fragment 3 inside.

Catalyst 3: Transcendent Zen (Mythic Required)

Effect: Final blows grant bonus stats based on damage type alignment. Light elements grant stability and handling. Dark elements grant range and aim assist. While Transcendent, you get both bonuses simultaneously.

All three Transcendent Zen fragments require Mythic world tier. Enemy Power scales to 270 while your cap sits at 220. Bring a full fireteam if possible — solo is doable but some encounters here are severe damage-sponges. The Transcendent Zen Vandal boss fight in particular is brutal.

Transcendent Zen Fragment 1 – Caldera (Mythic)

Transcendent Zen Catalyst 1

From the Caldera spawn, head down the stairs and circle the main building to the right past the Postmaster. Once you reach the area with the weather balloon and a jet of Dark Matter, look toward a nearby ledge to find a flower and fan. Enter it, then open rooms sequentially until you find a Rosetta frequency device. Opening the wrong door spawns an enemy — stand on a box or vent above to deal with them. Interact with the Rosetta terminal afterward to collect Fragment 1.

Transcendent Zen Fragment 2 – Aionian Campus (Mythic)

Transcendent Zen Catalyst 2

Fast travel to the Aionian Campus. Go past the flower at the building entrance into a Matterspark portal on the right side. Take the first right inside and follow the caverns past Vex enemies. Find a Graviton Spike plant on the ceiling. Shoot it, then proceed through the area to collect Fragment 2.

Transcendent Zen Fragment 3 – Singularity Path (Mythic)

Transcendent Zen Catalyst 3
Transcendent Zen Catalyst 3

Travel from Caldera through the Matterspark portal under the main room and make your way toward the Singularity via the Assimilated Easement. Follow the left path where Vex are fighting. Take the left passage through the pipes. Continue upward to find a hole in the wall of a building — a Graviton Spike plant inside slows the fan below when shot. Enter the fan and proceed down the room to fight a large Fallen boss. Defeat them. Fragment 3 is at the end of the room. If the boss doesn’t spawn after dying in this fight, transmat to orbit and return to reset the encounter.

Catalyst 4: Temporal Alignment (Mythic Required)

Effect: Overcharging both Arc and Stasis modes simultaneously grants a period of increased damage — rewarding players who actively switch between modes during combat.

Temporal Alignment Fragment 1 – Caldera, Post-Boss Room (Mythic)

Temporal Alignment Catalyst 1
Temporal Alignment Catalyst 1

This fragment is in the same area where you fought the Fallen boss for Transcendent Zen Fragment 3. After clearing the boss fight, head back up the elevator in that room. Shoot the plant you see above to open a fan. Enter Matterspark, go through the fan, and follow the new path through a white door. Look up inside the room — the flower is above you. Shoot it, then enter Matterspark into the hole directly beneath it. Fragment 1 is in the room beyond.

Temporal Alignment Fragment 2 – The Gorge (Mythic)

Temporal Alignment Catalyst 2

Head to the Gorge and follow the path forward. Take the second left and proceed through the area with Matterspark. Climb rocky structures upward while moving forward. At the top, glide to the back of a Vex structure to find a Relocator. To the right of the portal is a Graviton Spike plant — shoot it immediately, then grab the Relocator and run toward the plant into a cave below. Shoot through the now-slow-moving fan to activate a portal and go through it. Fragment 2 is in the back corner.

Temporal Alignment Fragment 3 – The Singularity (Mythic)

Temporal Alignment Catalyst 3
Temporal Alignment Catalyst 3

Take the same route used for Transcendent Zen Fragment 3, but when you reach the Matterspark tunnel junction, go left instead of right. Continue to the massive chamber with the Relocator puzzle. Kill at least the Tracer Shanks to make the platforming easier. Platform along the left walls and cross the chasm. When you reach the large wall above the laser grid, go right until you can’t proceed further. Look down — you’ll see small platforms hanging over a death pit. Jump down, look left, and jump to a hanging platform with a large column. Find the Fallen terminal on the other side and activate it to open access to a fan on the opposite end of the room. Return there — the Arc bud is now visible beside an opening in the pipework. Shoot the bud, shatter the crystal, go through the fan, and collect the final Fragment 3.

With this final fragment collected, you’ll have all 15 collectibles — three intrinsics and all 12 catalyst fragments. The Gravitic Doctorate Triumph completes automatically, and you’ll have a fully upgraded Graviton Spike with Rapid Hit, Subsistence, Transcendent Zen, and Temporal Alignment all unlocked.

What Does Gravitic Doctorate Unlock?

Completing Gravitic Doctorate contributes to the Fated Weapon Title — one of the Edge of Fate-specific titles in Destiny 2. The title requires multiple Edge of Fate Triumphs, and Gravitic Doctorate is among the most time-consuming steps in the chain.

Beyond the Triumph, the actual reward is a fully upgraded Graviton Spike. All four catalysts active simultaneously transform the weapon from a solid Exotic into one of the best hybrid-element primaries in Destiny 2 in 2026. The Temporal Alignment catalyst in particular — which grants increased damage after overcharging both modes — turns the weapon’s core switching mechanic into a constant damage buff once you’ve mastered the rhythm.

A fully upgraded Graviton Spike with all catalysts is S-Tier for PvE. It can one-shot Barrier Champions in Grandmaster Nightfalls with its overcharged Arc mode. In Crucible, the overcharged Stasis mode can freeze opponents, and the Arc lightning chain from precision hits creates multi-target pressure that most hand cannons can’t replicate.
