- Find a Sprite in a match, carry it to an Extraction Site, interact with the terminal, and wait for the Extraction Crate to arrive to permanently bank it.
- Extraction Sites activate after the first storm circle closes. They are marked with white icons and fire a visible beam of light into the sky.
- When the Extraction Crate drops, you only have a few seconds to deposit your Sprite before it seals and leaves.
- If you die before extracting, you lose the Sprite. Another player can pick it up and extract it themselves.
- Winning a Victory Royale auto-extracts every Sprite you are carrying — no Extraction Site needed.
- The Portable Extractor lets you extract from anywhere on the map in 5 seconds. It costs 2,000 Sprite Dust at Sprite Stations. Use it for Mythic or Legendary Sprites you cannot afford to lose at a contested site.
- Every successful extraction earns Sprite Dust, which you spend before future matches to summon Sprites from your collection.
How to extract Sprites in Fortnite Runners — step by step
Sprite extraction in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 is how you permanently bank a Sprite into your collection. Finding a Sprite during a match activates its ability that game, but it does not lock it in. You have to successfully extract it to keep it. Here is the full process.
Step 1 — Pick up a Sprite
Sprites appear as glowing creatures wandering the map, inside Sprite Chests, from regular and Rare Chests, and from Supply Drops. Walk up to a Sprite and press the interact button to pick it up. It fills one inventory slot and attaches to your character’s back. Its ability activates immediately and stays active for the rest of that match.
You can carry a second Sprite in your hands, but holding anything other than a weapon leaves you defenseless. Keep any additional Sprite in your backpack until you reach the Extraction Site. Your starting Sprite — the one you pick at the beginning of a round — counts as a valid Sprite for extraction.

Step 2 — Wait for Extraction Sites to activate
Extraction Sites do not go live at the start of a match. They activate after the first storm circle closes. Do not rush toward one at the beginning of a game — the terminal will not be usable yet.
Once active, Extraction Sites appear as white icons on the map. They also fire a visible beam of light into the sky that you can spot from a long distance without opening the map. Use the beam to orient yourself quickly during rotation.
Each Extraction Site can only be used once per match. If another player has already triggered it, you need to find a different one. There are multiple sites spread across the Shattered Coast, so there are always others available.
Step 3 — Interact with the extraction terminal
Walk up to the Extraction Site terminal and press the interact button. On PC this is E, on PlayStation Square, on Xbox X.
Interacting with the terminal starts the extraction and changes your map icon, which alerts nearby players to your position. Assume someone has seen your icon and is pushing you the moment you activate it. Move into cover immediately after pressing the button and watch your surroundings while the timer runs.
Step 4 — Deposit your Sprite in the Extraction Crate
After the timer completes, an Extraction Crate drops at the site. Interact with the crate to deposit your Sprite. The crate stays open for only a brief window before it automatically seals and leaves the match. Do not wait. As soon as the crate appears, move to it and submit your Sprite immediately.
Once deposited, the Sprite is permanently banked to your Sprite Collection and you receive a payout of Sprite Dust. The extraction is complete.
What happens if you die before extracting
If you are eliminated while carrying an unextracted Sprite, you drop it on the ground. Any player who reaches the drop can pick it up and extract it themselves. You lose the Sprite entirely.
The only way to get it back after losing it is to spend Sprite Dust to summon it again before a future match — but summoned Sprites always come back at level 1, even if you had previously leveled it up. That level reset is often the bigger loss, not just the Dust cost.
This is why protecting a high-rarity Sprite during extraction matters. A Mythic Sprite at level 4 that you lose to an ambush costs you both 7,500 Sprite Dust to summon back and all the match time you spent leveling it.
How to extract Sprites without going to an Extraction Site
Win the match — Victory Royale auto-extracts
Winning a match automatically extracts every Sprite you are carrying at the time of the Victory Royale. You do not need to visit an Extraction Site at all. If you are in the final circle with a rare Sprite and you think you can win, playing for the Victory Royale is a legitimate extraction strategy — especially in squad modes where your team can carry the fight while you protect the Sprite.
Use a Portable Extractor
The Portable Extractor is a consumable Gizmo that extracts your equipped Sprite from anywhere on the map in approximately 5 seconds. You do not need to be near an Extraction Site. The process leaves you vulnerable during the 5-second window, so make sure no enemies are close before using it.
To use a Portable Extractor, hold down the weapon-swap input to equip it into your Pickaxe slot, then activate it. The extraction completes in seconds and you earn Sprite Dust as normal.
You can buy one Portable Extractor per day at Sprite Stations for 2,000 Sprite Dust. The daily limit resets at 9 AM ET. You can also unlock Portable Extractors through the Sprite Mastery track by mastering 2 and then 6 different Sprites.
Use the Portable Extractor for Mythic or Legendary Sprites. Carrying a Zero Point or Burnt Peanut Sprite to a contested Extraction Site where a squad might be camping is one of the fastest ways to lose your rarest finds. What are Extraction Gizmos in Fortnite Runners
Extraction Gizmos are consumables that change how extraction works. They occupy the Pickaxe slot when you drop from the Battle Bus and your Gizmo inventory carries over between matches all season. All Gizmos expire when the season ends on August 19, 2026 — use them before then.
There are three Gizmos planned for the season. Only one is currently live:
- Portable Extractor — live now. Extracts your Sprite from anywhere on the map in 5 seconds.
- Lucky Locator — coming later in the season. Tracks down a buried Chest guaranteed to contain a Sprite you have not yet collected. Useful for completing your collection.
- Extraction Site Booster — coming later in the season. Calls in a special Extraction Crate that boosts any Sprite extracted at the site. This will draw attention from nearby players, making it a high-risk, high-reward option.
The Lucky Locator and Extraction Site Booster are not in the game yet as of June 2026. Epic will add them in future Runners updates.
Sprite Collection — how it works
The Sprite Collection is your permanent roster of Sprites that you can bring into any future match. Every Sprite you successfully extract gets added to it. You access your collection through the Collection tab in the main lobby or at the end screen of a match.
How to summon Sprites from your collection
Before you drop from the Battle Bus, open your Sprite Collection and spend Sprite Dust to summon a Sprite you have already extracted. A summoned Sprite activates its ability before you even land, giving you a head start on every match where you use one.
Summoning costs scale by rarity:
- Rare (Water, Earth, Fire) — 100 Sprite Dust
- Epic (Duck, Ghost, King, Demon) — 3,000 Sprite Dust
- Legendary (Dream, Punk) — 5,000 Sprite Dust
- Mythic (Zero Point, Burnt Peanut) — 7,500 Sprite Dust
Gold and Gummy variants cost more than base versions at every rarity tier.
One important thing to know: summoned Sprites always come back at level 1. Even if your Sprite was at level 4 before you lost it, paying the Dust to summon it back resets its level for that match. You have to re-level it in-game from scratch. This makes dying with a high-level Sprite more costly than just the Dust price — you also lose all the leveling progress.
How to earn Sprite Dust
You earn Sprite Dust by extracting Sprites. You get Dust from every extraction — even if you already own that Sprite type in your collection. Extracting duplicate Sprites is not wasted. It all feeds your Dust reserve.
During Mastery Monday, Sprite Dust from extractions doubles for 24 hours. This is the best window to run high-volume extraction sessions and build up reserves for summoning Mythic Sprites. See the Mastery Monday guide for the weekly schedule.
What are Sprite Stations and what can you buy
Sprite Stations are terminals located near Extraction Sites across the Shattered Coast. You interact with them during a match to spend your Sprite Dust on in-match purchases. There are three things you can buy:
- Weapon upgrades — spend Sprite Dust to push a weapon up one rarity tier. Useful when you have a solid gun but want higher damage without relying on chest RNG.
- XP boosts — available once per day. Converts Sprite Dust into Battle Pass XP to push your seasonal level.
- Portable Extractors — one per day at 2,000 Sprite Dust. The daily purchase resets at 9 AM ET.
If you are completing the Sprite Safari quest that requires purchasing something at a Sprite Station, any of these transactions — even the cheapest one available — satisfies the quest. How Sprite leveling works and what Mastery means
Every Sprite has five levels. A Sprite levels up through three in-match activities:
- Exploration — opening Chests and Ammo Boxes earns Sprite XP (approximately 75 Mastery Points per chest).
- Eliminations — downing and eliminating opponents rewards 200 Mastery Points each.
- Extraction — extracting Sprites also contributes XP to your equipped Sprite’s progress.
A Sprite’s ability gets stronger at each level. Reaching Max Level takes multiple matches — do not expect to fully level a Sprite in a single run. Keep the same Sprite equipped consistently across matches to build progress over time.
When you extract a Sprite that has reached Max Level (level 5), it becomes Mastered. A crown icon appears on the Sprite in your collection. Mastered Sprites can be placed in your Sprite Pod Back Bling, permanently displaying them as a cosmetic. Mastery also feeds the season’s progression reward track and unlocks customization options for The Guardian Battle Pass skin.

Tips for surviving at Extraction Sites
- Scout before activating. Walk around the Extraction Site area and check for waiting players before you touch the terminal. If someone is already there, decide whether to fight or find a different site.
- Take cover the moment you start the extraction. Interacting changes your map icon. Treat the activation as a flare going off — enemies will push your position.
- Do not sprint to the crate. When the Extraction Crate drops, move to it quickly but stay aware of your surroundings. A player who waited for you to activate the site might rush in at this exact moment.
- Use a Portable Extractor for Mythic Sprites. The 2,000 Dust cost is worth it. Bringing a Zero Point Sprite to a busy Extraction Site is one of the highest-risk plays in the game in 2026.
- Play toward a Victory Royale if you are in a strong position. Auto-extraction on a win is the safest extraction method in the game. If you are in the final few squads and feeling confident, prioritize the win over rushing an extraction site.
