Gears of War E Day Act 2 Full Walkthrough
    • Act 2 has 5 chapters — Bravo Squad, Hold the Line, No Gear Left Behind, Flyboys, and Overrun.
    • This is the act where secondary objectives appear for the first time — all 6 of them are in Chapter 2: Hold the Line.
    • Act 2 has 38 collectibles total — more than any other act in the game.
    • Chapter 4: Flyboys has zero collectibles — don’t waste time searching.
    • Chapter 5: Overrun has only 1 collectible but contains 3 important Hard Cases with weapon mods.
    • The act route runs: Legacy Bridge → Stadium FOB → Octus Way → All Father’s Plaza → Charlie Squad → Raven → Airfield.
    • Act 2 introduces Hard Cases — look for these to unlock weapon mod slots and upgrades.
    • Completing secondary objectives earns you weapon mod parts — don’t skip them.

Act 2 is where Gears of War E-Day shifts gears. The chaotic civilian rescue of Act 1 is over. Bravo Squad is officially formed, you have real orders, and the campaign opens up significantly. You’re no longer just surviving — you’re fighting a war. The city of Kalona is collapsing around you, and Bravo is right in the middle of every attempt to hold it together.

This is also the act where secondary objectives appear for the first time, and where Hard Cases start hiding weapon mods in every corner. Don’t rush. Explore every area before moving on.

Act 2 Overview – What to Expect

Act 2 begins the day after Emergence Day. Marcus, Dom, Mags Carter, and Lucas Reyes are now officially Bravo Squad under COG command. Their first orders take them to Legacy Bridge, and from there the route pushes through the stadium FOB, Octus Way Station, All Father’s Plaza, Charlie Squad, a Raven deployment, and finally the airfield.

This is one of the longer, harder stretches of the campaign. The Locust are more organized and aggressive than they were in Act 1. Flanking is a real threat now. Boomers appear. Enemy encounters are bigger. Stay at mid-range, use cover properly, and take care of secondary objectives as you encounter them — they give you weapon mod parts that make the rest of the game easier.

For full context on how the acts connect, see our All Chapters and Acts Explained guide.

Act 2, Chapter 1: Bravo Squad – Walkthrough

    Bravo Squad Lucas

The first chapter of Act 2 takes Bravo Squad from City Hall to Legacy Bridge, where they need to lower the central span so COG forces can cross. Charlie Squad is already on the bridge and under pressure.

Get Your Orders and Leave City Hall

After the cutscene at the end of Act 1, follow Captain Grey out of City Hall. Bravo Squad receives its formal orders. Run through the street toward the bridge as instructed. The route is direct — follow the objective marker.

Collectible #1 – COG Helmet With Bullet Hole

As the chapter begins and you head outside, a vehicle will open a passage on your right. Don’t go through it yet. Look to the left — there’s a soldier propped up against some rubble on the ground. The COG Helmet with Bullet Hole collectible is on the floor beside him. Grab it before moving on.

Rendezvous with Charlie Squad – Clear the Bridge

Fight your way toward Legacy Bridge and link up with Charlie Squad. The bridge is crawling with Locust. Clear out the enemies on the central span — the bridge mechanism does not lower automatically. The area must be fully cleared before you can access the controls. Don’t try to trigger the next objective while enemies are still active.

Watch for Breechshot snipers on elevated platforms. They can hit you from long range while you’re in the open. Priority-target them first before engaging ground-level Locust. The Lancer works well at bridge distances. Take cover behind the concrete dividers and advance methodically.

    Lower the Central Span

Once the bridge is clear, locate the bridge control room and enter it. The controls you need are in the center of the room. But before you activate them, explore the room first.

    Collectible #2 – Sniper Goggles

Inside the first bridge control room, instead of going straight to the main controls, turn left and go down the short corridor to the end. You’ll find a dead Locust at the end. His goggles are the collectible. Pick them up before heading back to activate the bridge controls.

Activate the controls to lower the central span. A new wave of Locust attacks. Fight them off and continue across the now-lowered bridge.

Split From Charlie Squad and Support From Above

After crossing the bridge and clearing out the Breechshot snipers, Bravo splits from Charlie Squad. You go up to a higher level to support Charlie from above with covering fire while they push forward below. Cover your allies as they advance, then fight through your own enemies with Charlie providing support fire from below in return.

After clearing your section, drop a ladder to allow progression and continue deeper into the bridge structure.

    Collectible #3 – Bridge Worker’s Lunch Kit

After getting off the sky train and going down the ladder, turn left immediately. Don’t follow the main path yet. The Bridge Worker’s Lunch Kit is in the corner at the end of this left turn, on a cabinet. It’s easy to miss because the natural instinct is to keep moving forward.

Collectible #4 – Thrashball Rush Magazine

Inside the second bridge control room, search the right-hand side of the room before interacting with the controls or leaving. The Thrashball Rush Magazine is there. Same advice as the first control room — explore before you trigger the objective.

Deal With the Boomer at the Fuel Truck

After activating the second bridge mechanism, push toward the fuel truck. A Boomer appears here — the first real Boomer encounter of Act 2. This heavy Locust is carrying a prototype Heavy Boomshot and can kill you fast if you let it. Stay at mid-to-long range, use cover, and unload on it. Don’t let it get close. Once it’s down, turn right from the burning truck, open the gate, head down the stairs, and push toward the stadium.

    Collectible #5 – Medic’s First Aid Kit

After the final bridge fight, before moving on to the next section, search the rear of the combat area near the fallen Gear. The Medic’s First Aid Kit is there on the ground. Check your War Journal — if it shows 5/5 for Chapter 1, you have everything. If not, the two bridge control rooms are the most common places players miss collectibles.

Clear the Way to the FOB and Report to the Quartermaster

Fight through any remaining Locust on the route to the stadium FOB. When you arrive, report to the Quartermaster. This triggers Chapter 2.

Act 2, Chapter 2: Hold the Line – Walkthrough

Hold the Line is the longest and most complex chapter in Act 2. It’s also the most rewarding — all 6 secondary objectives in the act are found here, and completing them gives you weapon mod parts that carry forward through the rest of the campaign. Don’t rush this chapter. Explore everything.

Get Your Orders and Pick Up the Map

Head to the Octus Way Station for your next orders. Once you pick up the map, a truck clears out of the nearby gas station ahead. This triggers the first secondary objective.

    Secondary Objective 1: The Vanguard

    Secondary Objective 1 The Vanguard
    Secondary Objective 1 The Vanguard

Location: East of Oria Stadium, inside the Victory car dealership.

After the truck moves and you’re prompted to start The Vanguard, head into the Victory car dealership (the one by the gas station). Clear all the Locust inside. This is a contained combat section — kill everything and the objective completes.

Rewards: Bayonet mod (Hammerburst), Cover Brace (Lancer Mk1).

While you’re in the gas station area, look around before leaving. There’s a collectible here too.

    Collectible – Cinema Filmatica Magazine

Inside the gas station near where The Vanguard starts, look around the interior. The Cinema Filmatica Magazine is inside, on a surface near the entrance area. Grab it before moving on.

    Secondary Objective 2: Trapped Family

Location: West of Octus Way, near the Last Dollar Shop.

As you push through the area, you’ll hear calls for help coming from a building. Head into the Last Dollar Shop and raise the garage shutter to get inside. Walk down the corridor, bypass the shelves, and press the button to open a window. Clear out the Locust attacking the family, stay with them briefly after the fight ends, and the objective completes.

Rewards: Precision Long Barrel (Breechshot), Bayonet (Gnasher).

    Collectible – A Letter Home

During the Trapped Family secondary objective, as you enter the garage by raising the shutter and head into the back room, look to the right wall. A Letter Home is hanging there. Easy to miss while you’re focused on helping the family.

Hard Case – West of Octus Way

If you leave the parking lot the way the Juvie enemies enter from and take a left on the main road, you’ll reach a junction. Head right at the junction. Behind the burnt-out bus, you’ll find a Hard Case guarded by a Juvie. Open it for weapon mod rewards.

    Secondary Objective 3: Apartment SOS

Location: East of Octus Tribunal, inside one of the apartments.

    Apartment SOS
    Apartment SOS

This one is different. You can’t go in through the front door. You need to approach from outside through a window. Look for the correct window on the exterior wall — it’s the one you can vault through. Once inside, speak with the two survivors in the top apartment. Clear the route downstairs and escort them to safety.

    Rewards: Weapon mod parts.

Investigate the Muster Point and Gear Up

Push to the muster point to check on the situation. Pick up any gear from the supply area before moving on. This is a good moment to resupply ammo and check your weapon loadout.

Secondary Objective 4: Lost in Translation

    Lost in Translation
    Lost in Translation

Location: Central area, watch for a distress signal during the chapter’s mid-section.

Help the survivors in distress and defend the area until all enemies are cleared. This secondary objective involves assisting people who have a communication barrier with the COG — hence the name. Stay with them and hold off the Locust attack to complete it.

Rewards: Grounded Capacitor (Sonic Disruptor), Cover Brace (Breechshot).

Secure and Destroy the Imulsion Stockpile

The Locust are trying to use an Imulsion stockpile. Secure the area first, then destroy the stockpile before the Locust can leverage it. Standard combat — clear the area, complete the destruction, move on.

Get Mags’ Meds and Find Dr. Dalia Fabbri

Mags needs medicine. Retrieve her meds from the indicated location — the route takes you through Mags’ apartment building. After leaving the apartment, head to the crossroads where the Bank of Tyrus stands. This area opens up additional exploration.

    Secondary Objective 5: Family Reunion

    Family Reunion
    Family Reunion

Location: Victory Plaza, directly in front of Shelter 13.

From the Bank of Tyrus crossroads, take a left and head all the way down to the edge of the map. A shelter is there with the Family Reunion secondary objective. Defend the shelter and protect the civilians inside until all enemies are defeated. This one involves a sustained defense — hold the perimeter and don’t let Locust into the shelter.

    Rewards: Weapon mod parts.

Secondary Objective 6: Black Raven Down

    Black Raven Down
    Black Raven Down

    Location: Southwest of Monroe Library.

A Raven helicopter has gone down in this area. Locate it and help any survivors. This secondary objective involves clearing Locust from the crash site. Find the downed Raven, eliminate all enemies in the area, and assist whoever is still alive.

    Rewards: Weapon mod parts.

For full details on every secondary objective and their exact locations on the map, see our dedicated All Secondary Objective Locations guide.

Hard Case – COG Road Block Alley

When facing the entrance to the COG road block, take a right down an alley. You’ll see climbable ladders on the wall. Go up to the next floor, shoot out the window, and hop into the room on the other side. A Hard Case is waiting inside. These kinds of off-path Hard Cases are easy to walk past — always check alleys.

    Collectibles in Hold the Line

Chapter 2 has the most collectibles of any chapter in Act 2. Many of them are tied directly to the secondary objective locations. As a general rule — when you enter a secondary objective area, search every room before completing the objective trigger. These locations include:

    • Thrashies Cereal Box — found in one of the residential interiors during exploration.
    • Kalona Postcard — in a side room along the chapter route.
    • Vandalized Salvaging Poster — on a wall during the late stages of the chapter.
    • COG Tags of Private Liz Waxman — near a fallen Gear during combat sections.
    • Birthday Card With Toy Lancer — tucked into an apartment interior.
    • Emgazi Blitz Display Case — in a shop or display area during mid-chapter exploration.
    • War Savings Bond — inside a vault. Look to the left when you enter the vault area.

Link Up with Charlie Squad and Defend the Courthouse

Push through to find Charlie Squad and link up with them. Head to the courthouse and defend it through a major Locust assault. The courthouse fight is one of the bigger combat setpieces in Act 2 — use the pillars and doorways for cover, hold the chokepoints, and prevent Locust from pushing through the main entrance. Clear the upper floor to complete this part of the chapter.

Ensure Dr. Fabbri Is Safely Extracted

Get Dr. Fabbri out of the area safely. Clear any remaining Locust blocking her extraction path. The chapter is nearly done at this point — clear the mausoleum and eliminate all enemies inside to wrap up the chapter.

It’s recommended to collect all remaining collectibles, supply caches, and Hard Cases before entering the mausoleum, as this triggers the chapter’s end.

Act 2, Chapter 3: No Gear Left Behind – Walkthrough

Chapter 3 takes Bravo Squad in search of missing Gears. The chapter involves tunnel sections, a large outdoor plaza with a prominent golden Gear statue, and the Octus Tribunal interior. There are 5 collectibles and 6 Hard Cases here — this is one of the richest chapters for loot in the entire act.

Follow Captain Grey Into the Tunnel

After the major cutscene that opens the chapter, continue into the tunnel. Keep moving forward and search carefully — fallen Gears are scattered through this section and each one carries a collectible.

Collectible #1 – COG Tags of Private Sal Harkniss

Continue into the tunnel after the cutscene and search beside the first fallen Gear you encounter. The COG Tags of Private Sal Harkniss are right there. Don’t rush past the bodies.

Collectible #2 – COG Tags of Private Siv Strickland

Stay in the same tunnel section and keep moving until you reach the second fallen Gear. Search this body for Private Strickland’s tags. Same deal as above — slow down and check every soldier on the ground.

    Collectible #3 – Bloodied Spike

Before reaching the giant golden Gear statue in the plaza ahead, keep to the right-hand side of the road. There’s a dead soldier tucked into a corner on that side. The Bloodied Spike is on the body.

    Collectible #4 – Ink-Covered Wrench

In the plaza that contains the giant golden Gear statue, search the ground on the left side of the plaza. The Ink-Covered Wrench is on the ground there. Clear out the Locust in the plaza first — it’s hard to search while enemies are active.

    Supply Cache – Victory Plaza

The Supply Cache for this chapter is located in the northern part of Victory Plaza. This is a primary source of weapon upgrade materials in Chapter 3. Hit it before you leave the plaza area.

Hard Cases in No Gear Left Behind

There are 6 Hard Cases across this chapter — more than any other chapter in Act 2. Key ones include:

    • Hard Case #5 — Next to the supply cache. Contains a Longshot Mod and Gut-Puncher Mod.
    • Hard Case #6 — Inside the Octus Tribunal, on the left side as you follow Captain Grey through the building. Contains an Injector Mod and Disruptor Mod.

Search every room inside the Octus Tribunal. The building has multiple side paths that are easy to overlook while following the main objective.

Collectible #5 – COG Tags of Lieutenant Jane Hawkins

Continue through the chapter and stay alert near any Gear bodies. Lieutenant Hawkins’ COG Tags are near the end of the chapter’s combat sections. Look near fallen officer-rank Gear bodies.

For more on the weapons and mods you’ll find in these Hard Cases, see our All Mods List and How to Unlock More Weapon Mod Slots guides.

    Act 2, Chapter 4: Flyboys – Walkthrough

Chapter 4 is a significant story moment. Bravo Squad meets Gil Gettner, a Raven helicopter pilot, and the chapter revolves around securing the Raven and getting out of Kalona’s increasingly dangerous streets. The action picks up the pace compared to Chapter 3.

Find Whiskey Squad and Support the Gears

Push through the chapter following your objectives. The route involves linking up with the field relay and assisting squads that are in trouble. Move to each objective marker, clear the Locust, and push forward.

Harris at the Hotel and Patching the Field Relay

Bravo needs to patch onto a field relay to communicate with wider COG forces. Locate Harris at the hotel and work with the squad to establish the connection. Clear any threats in the area and secure the relay point.

    Help the Squad in Trouble

A squad is pinned down and needs immediate support. Push toward them, relieve the pressure, and help them break contact with the Locust. Standard rescue combat — take cover, suppress the Locust, and allow the pinned squad to move.

    No Collectibles in Flyboys

Chapter 4 has zero standard collectibles. Don’t waste time searching for items that aren’t there. Focus entirely on the combat and objectives. The chapter moves faster than Chapter 2 and 3 — let it flow.

    Act 2, Chapter 5: Overrun – Walkthrough

Chapter 5 is Act 2’s finale. Bravo Squad reaches the airfield at Point Fairlight, and the Locust attack in force. This chapter introduces one of the most dangerous enemy types in the game — the Raven-Eater — and ends with a major set piece that closes out Act 2’s story.

Reach the Airfield and Prepare for the Attack

Push to the Point Fairlight airfield. Inside the hangar, the whole squad is preparing for what’s coming. Before anything else, check around the hangar carefully — there are Hard Cases and a collectible here that you can’t come back for after the fight begins.

    Hard Case #1

Before exiting through the hole in the hangar floor, look to the right side. There’s a Hard Case there. Open it to receive an Injector Mod Slot, Hammerburst Mod, and Injector Mod. Don’t miss this.

    Hard Case #2

In the hole where the Raven-Eater attacks from, there’s another Hard Case. Search the hole area after dealing with the threat there. It contains a Disruptor Mod Slot, Snub Mod, and Disruptor Mod.

Hard Case #3 and Collectible – Point Fairlight Hangar Data Pad

In the warehouse area where the squad is preparing for the attack, look near the supply cache. There’s both a Hard Case and the chapter’s only collectible — the Point Fairlight Hangar Data Pad — right next to each other. Open the case for two Gut-Puncher Mods. Grab the Data Pad. This is the only standard collectible in Chapter 5, so it’s critical.

Supply Cache – Inside the Hangar

The Supply Cache for Chapter 5 is inside the Hangar. Use it to upgrade your weapons before the big fight. This is your last resupply point before the Raven-Eater encounter.

The Raven-Eater – How to Survive

The Raven-Eater is a massive flying Locust creature that tears through the airfield. It’s not a traditional boss fight in the same way the Brumak was — it’s more of a sustained survival encounter while dealing with both the creature and ground-based Locust simultaneously.

    Here’s how to handle it:

    • Keep moving. The Raven-Eater targets static players. Don’t stay in one cover position for too long during its attack runs.
    • Heavy weapons are your best tool. Use whatever heavy firepower is available in the hangar area. The Boomshot and any turrets you can access deal meaningful damage.
    • Deal with ground enemies first. While the Raven-Eater is flying above, regular Locust are still attacking from the ground. Letting them build up makes the encounter much harder. Clear ground threats, then focus fire upward when the creature descends.
    • Watch the attack patterns. The Raven-Eater swoops in from specific angles. Learn which cover positions are safe during each pass and position yourself accordingly.
    • Use your full squad. Your squadmates deal real damage to the creature. Don’t let them die — revive downed teammates fast and keep everyone in the fight.

After the Raven-Eater is dealt with, a major story cutscene plays and Act 2 ends. Bravo Squad is in a very different position than where they started, and Act 3 opens with the consequences.

    Act 2 Achievements

Three story achievements unlock during Act 2 automatically:

    • The Scorched Legion (15G) – Unlocks during Act 2.
    • You Want What On the Front of a Gun?! (15G) – Unlocks during Act 2.
    • Got to the Choppa (15G) – Unlocks during Act 2.

The Side Piece achievement (15G) for completing all secondary objectives in the campaign requires you to finish all 6 secondary objectives in Chapter 2. Don’t skip any of them on your first run. For the full achievement list, see our All Achievements List.

    Act 2 General Tips

Do Secondary Objectives on Your First Playthrough

All 6 secondary objectives in Act 2 are in Chapter 2: Hold the Line. They give you weapon mod parts tied directly to your weapon customization. If you skip them now and want to replay later for the Side Piece achievement, you’ll need to replay the entire chapter. Do them on your first pass.

Search Control Rooms Before Using Controls

This applies specifically to Chapter 1. Both bridge control rooms contain collectibles. Every time you enter a new room with an interactable objective trigger, search it fully before pressing anything. The moment you activate the bridge controls, you’re moving on.

Hard Cases Require Exploration Off the Main Path

Many Hard Cases in Act 2 — especially in Chapters 2 and 3 — are hidden down alleys, up ladders, or through windows you have to shoot out. If a path looks like it goes nowhere, follow it anyway. The Hard Cases found in these locations contain mod slots and mods that are some of the most valuable upgrades in the entire campaign. See our All Tactical Gear List for what each mod does.

Collect Everything Before Entering the Mausoleum in Chapter 2

Entering the mausoleum in Hold the Line ends the chapter. Everything you haven’t collected yet — collectibles, Hard Cases, supply caches — becomes inaccessible. Do a full sweep of the area before going inside.

Use the Full Act 2 Weapon Arsenal

Act 2 introduces more weapon variety than Act 1. The Breechshot sniper rifle is a priority pickup — it’s excellent for the longer-range encounters on Legacy Bridge and around the courthouse. For the full list of available weapons, see our All Weapons List.
