Build Guide – Best Relics, Light Cone & Teams

⚡ LIGHTNING NIHILITY · DOT DETONATOR · HSR 4.0 ⚡

Destiny’s Slave · The Cornerstone of Every DoT Team

Kafka is a 5-star Lightning Nihility character and the most important DoT character in Honkai: Star Rail — bar none. A senior member of the Stellaron Hunters serving Elio’s script, she is professionally dashing, effortlessly composed, and absolutely devastating to any enemy’s Damage over Time resistances. Released in Version 1.2, she remains a top-tier unit in HSR 4.0 not merely because of her own damage, but because she is the irreplaceable engine that makes the entire DoT archetype function. Prydwen: “Kafka is by far Hysilens’ best synergy — so much so that playing Hysilens without her is essentially non-negotiable as the amount she brings is simply far too transformative.”

Her defining ability: her Skill instantly detonates all DoTs currently on the enemy, dealing their full damage as immediate burst rather than gradual ticks — and after Version 3.4 buffs, her Skill now triggers DoT detonation on all enemies hit, not just the primary target. Her Talent provides a follow-up attack on ally Basic ATK, also detonating DoTs. Combined with a 100 ATK% bonus at 75% Effect Hit Rate and the best-in-slot relic set providing Action Advance every turn, Kafka creates the fastest-cycling DoT burst loop in the game.

Kafka’s Two Playstyles

Game8’s Version 3.4 update introduced a significant build shift. Kafka now has two distinct and viable build paths — choose based on your team composition and available Light Cones.

⚡ Personal DPS Build
With Hysilens or Black Swan as the primary DoT carry

When paired with Hysilens or Black Swan as the primary damage source, Kafka serves as the detonation engine — maximising her own Shock DoT application and AoE detonation frequency. Build priority: SPD (160+) → EHR (75%+) → ATK%. Best relic: Prisoner in Deep Confinement 4pc (DEF ignore per DoT) or Eagle of Twilight 4pc (action advance for more turns). This build maximises her ability to trigger more DoTs per cycle for the DoT carry to benefit from.

★ DoT Support Build
When Kafka IS the team’s primary damage source

When Kafka herself is the highest-damage character (older teams without Hysilens), she focuses on ATK%, EHR, and Ultimate cycling. Game8: “Kafka’s new best build puts her in a supportive role where she buffs the DoT DPS and repeatedly triggers their DoTs.” Best relic: Eagle of Twilight 4pc (25% action advance every turn = effectively 33% more turns). LC: Before the Tutorial Mission Starts (Herta Store, ERR + Energy on DEF-reduced enemies = 1-turn Ultimates). This guide covers both — look for the build tags.

Core Mechanics Explained

Skill — Caressing Moonlight (AoE DoT Detonation)
Kafka’s defining ability. Deals Lightning DMG and immediately triggers all DoTs currently on the target and adjacent enemies — causing every Wind Shear, Bleed, Burn, Shock, and Arcana stack to deal its full damage as instant burst. After Version 3.4 buffs: this now applies to all enemies hit, not only the primary target — dramatically improving AoE DoT burst in multi-enemy content. Higher Skill levels increase the DMG multiplier. Costs 1 SP per use.
🌀
Talent — Doomed to Be Chained (Ally Follow-Up)
When any ally (except Kafka) uses Basic ATK, Kafka launches a follow-up attack that deals Lightning DMG and detonates all DoTs on the target. After Version 3.4: triggers on any attack made by her allies, not only Basic ATK — significantly increasing trigger frequency. This follow-up also has a high base chance to apply Shock to the target. The Talent is Kafka’s primary mechanism for passively detonating DoTs throughout the cycle without costing SP or actions.
💥
Ultimate — Twilight Trill (AoE Shock + Team Buff)
Deals Lightning DMG to all enemies, applies Shock to all for 2 turns, and increases all allies’ DoT DMG by 30% for 2 turns (scales with Ultimate level). The team DoT DMG buff is enormous in a Hysilens + Black Swan composition — all three characters’ DoT ticks benefit simultaneously. The Shock on all enemies synergises with Hysilens’s Zone (each Shock tick triggers the Zone’s additional Physical hits) and Black Swan’s Arcana stacking. Cycling Ultimate frequently is critical — hence the ERR rope and Before the Tutorial Mission Starts LC.
📊
EHR — Two Key Thresholds
Effect Hit Rate is Kafka’s most nuanced stat. 67% EHR: ensures Kafka’s personal Shock DoTs reliably land on enemies. 75% EHR: activates Kafka’s A6 bonus ability “Thorns” — granting +100% ATK to herself, effectively doubling her ATK scaling from base. Prydwen: “75% to activate her bonus ability to gain 100% ATK.” This threshold is mandatory. Some LC options (signature, Before the Tutorial) provide EHR — calculate whether relic substats or the LC covers the gap to 75%.
🚀
Version 3.4 Buffs — What Changed
Game8 documents the key 3.4 quality-of-life upgrades: (1) Skill now detonates DoTs on all enemies hit (not just primary) — transforming AoE content; (2) Talent now triggers on any ally attack (not just Basic ATK) — dramatically more frequent DoT detonation; (3) Talent’s follow-up refresh mechanic was added via “Thorns” bonus ability — improving Shock consistency; (4) +100% ATK buff at 75% EHR raised her personal damage baseline significantly. These buffs collectively solidify Kafka as an S+ tier support rather than merely an A-tier legacy unit.
🎯
SPD — Kafka Must Be Slower Than Hysilens
A critical teambuilding rule: Kafka’s SPD must be lower than Hysilens’s SPD so that Kafka’s detonation Skill fires after Hysilens has applied DoTs. If Kafka acts before Hysilens in a cycle, she detonates fewer DoTs per Skill use. Game8: “Do make sure her SPD is slower than other DoT units so she can trigger their DoTs.” In practice: Hysilens at 135+ SPD, Kafka at 130–134 SPD (in support role) or 156–170 SPD for maximum personal turns (DPS role where she applies her own DoTs first).

SPD Breakpoints

Kafka’s optimal SPD varies significantly by build type and team composition. Icy Veins notes “SPD is one of Kafka’s best stats” across both roles.

Minimum Floor
135 SPD
F2P DPS Build
Game8: “Kafka should have at least 135 SPD for multiple turns in one cycle.” At 135, she takes one extra action per cycle, enabling more DoT detonations and Skill uses. Sufficient for older teams or budget builds where SPD substats are scarce. Requires careful turn ordering relative to Hysilens.
Support Role
130–134 SPD
Hysilens Teams
When running Hysilens (135+ SPD), Kafka should be 1–5 SPD slower to ensure Hysilens applies DoTs before Kafka detonates. This ordering maximises the DoTs Kafka detonates per Skill use. Prydwen’s data: most top players run Kafka at 130–134 in Hysilens triple DoT teams.
Eagle Set Threshold
150–160 SPD
Eagle 4pc BiS Rotation
Icy Veins: “When using the 4P Eagle set, lower amounts of SPD can be built to achieve the same results as the usual 160 SPD breakpoint. Only applicable when using the 4P Eagle relic set.” Eagle of Twilight’s 25% action advance activates every turn Kafka uses Ultimate — effectively giving her an extra turn, allowing 150 base SPD to perform like 160+.
Signature LC Target
170 SPD
With Lies Dance on Breeze
Game8: “If Kafka has Lies Dance on the Breeze equipped, she should have 170 SPD to fully utilize the effect.” Kafka’s signature LC provides +18% SPD and at ≥170 SPD applies both Bamboozle (−16% enemy DEF) and Theft (additional −10% enemy DEF) simultaneously — maximising the LC’s DEF shred potential for the whole team.

Best Light Cones

Lies Dance on the Breeze

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Signature — Team DPS Best in Slot

Kafka’s dedicated signature LC and the clear Best in Slot for team DoT DPS. At S1: (1) +18% SPD — Prydwen confirms this is a “large boost to SPD% which allows for Kafka to trigger more DoTs in a fight”; (2) After Kafka attacks, 120% base chance to inflict Bamboozle on all enemies — reducing their DEF by 16% for 2 turns; (3) If Kafka’s SPD ≥ 170, additionally applies Theft state — reducing enemy DEF by a further 10% for 2 turns. Combined: −26% enemy DEF from the LC alone at the 170 SPD threshold, benefiting every attack from every character.

Icy Veins: “This Light Cone has a large boost to SPD% which allows Kafka to trigger more DoTs in a fight while providing a DEF shredding debuff on all enemies hit that is a significant increase to team DPS.” The team-wide DEF reduction is what makes this the “team DPS” best option — all of Hysilens’s DoT hits, Black Swan’s Arcana procs, and Kafka’s own detonations all benefit from the −26% DEF simultaneously.

Before the Tutorial Mission Starts

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4-Star — Personal DPS Best in Slot

The most impactful accessible LC for Kafka’s personal DPS — available from Herta’s Store. Icy Veins calls it “significantly ahead of other options” for personal performance: at S1 it provides +20% EHR (contributing to the mandatory 75% threshold) and regenerates 4 Energy when Kafka attacks DEF-reduced enemies. This Energy on attack is the key mechanic — since Kafka’s Skill triggers DoT detonation which applies DEF reduction (via Prisoner 4pc or team debuffs), she regenerates Energy on nearly every Skill use. Icy Veins: “As Before the Tutorial Mission Starts enables her to use her Ultimate every turn this Relic Set will also give her 25% Action Advance every turn — effectively 33% more turns!”

The implication: paired with Eagle of Twilight 4pc, Kafka achieves near-constant Ultimate uptime — turning 2-turn Ultimate cycles into a consistent every-other-turn loop. Icy Veins’ DPS simulations rate this as delivering the highest personal DPS for Kafka in most scenarios. Critical note: this is strong for Kafka’s personal output but doesn’t boost teammates’ DMG the way the signature’s DEF shred does. Choose signature for team DoT DPS; choose this for Kafka-centric personal output.

Patience Is All You Need

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Limited — Strong Alternative

Jiaoqiu’s 5-star signature, excellent on Kafka. Prydwen: “Best option for DMG-focused Kafka while also being decent for the DoT support playstyle thanks to its SPD and DMG bonuses on top of the additional DoT it grants.” At S1: +24% DMG increasing by +8% per stack after each attack (max 3 stacks = +24% bonus, capping at ~48% DMG); SPD increases by up to +24% at max stacks; and when hitting a non-Shocked enemy, applies Erode — a Shock-type DoT dealing 60% of Kafka’s ATK per turn. Erode counts as a DoT, contributing to Prisoner’s DEF ignore stacks and Hysilens’s Zone activation. The SPD boost compounds with her base SPD — a strong limited LC option particularly for players who own it from Jiaoqiu’s banner.

Good Night and Sleep Well / Fermata

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4-Star — Accessible Alts

Good Night and Sleep Well: At S5, up to +48% DoT DMG when enemies have 1+ debuff — Kafka permanently maintains debuffs, ensuring full uptime. A solid personal DPS option without EHR, requiring compensation through substats. Prydwen lists it as “a good DMG stat stick providing a solid DoT DMG increase” for players without the signature or Before the Tutorial.

Fermata: At S5, +52% Break DMG and +16% DMG taken by Shocked or Windsheared enemies. The +16% DMG taken debuff benefits the whole team’s damage output when enemies have these DoTs — which is essentially always in a Kafka team. A unique team-support profile that doesn’t require EHR and is accessible from standard gacha. Particularly effective when Kafka acts primarily as a DoT applier rather than a personal damage dealer.

Best Relics & Planar Ornaments

Eagle of Twilight Line (4-Piece) ✦ Best in Slot — Support Role

2-Piece: Wind DMG +10% — marginal for Kafka (she deals Lightning DMG), but the 4-piece is why you use this set.
4-Piece: After the wearer uses their Ultimate, their action is Advanced Forward by 25%.

Game8’s top recommendation for Kafka’s support build: “Eagle of Twilight Line is Kafka’s best Relic set since this allows her to get earlier turns for more DoT triggers.” Icy Veins is emphatic: “This Relic Set is significantly better than any other option for Kafka. As Before the Tutorial Mission Starts enables her to use her Ultimate every turn this Relic Set will also give her 25% Action Advance every turn — effectively 33% more turns! Any other options are over 15% DPS behind so we do not recommend building them.”

The math: 25% Action Advance after Ultimate is equivalent to gaining an extra turn every 4 turns — meaning Kafka takes approximately 1.33× more actions per cycle than a character without this effect. Combined with Before the Tutorial Mission Starts enabling 1-turn Ultimate cycling, Eagle effectively makes Kafka the highest-action-frequency character in DoT teams. More turns = more Skill detonations = more DoT triggers = vastly more team damage.

Prisoner in Deep Confinement (4-Piece) Strong Alt — Personal DPS

2-Piece: ATK +12% — scales Kafka’s personal detonation damage.
4-Piece: For every DoT the enemy is afflicted with, ignore 6% of enemy DEF (max 3 DoTs = 18% DEF ignore).

Prydwen’s recommended set for personal DPS Kafka: “Grants Kafka’s team another independent DoT debuff to work with, which can be relevant for stacking Black Swan’s Arcana, triggering Hysilens’ Zone, or enabling the 4-Pc Prisoner in Deep Confinement Relic Set to further ignore DEF.” In a full Hysilens + Kafka + Black Swan team, all three DoT types (Shock, Wind Shear, Bleed, Burn, and Arcana) are active simultaneously — ensuring Kafka maintains 3+ DoTs on enemies and therefore the full 18% DEF ignore constantly. The 18% DEF ignore applies to every single hit — including Kafka’s detonation Skill, Talent follow-up, and Ultimate. This set is the better choice when Kafka herself is the primary damage dealer and doesn’t need the Eagle’s extra turn frequency.

Lushaka, the Sunken Seas ✦ Best Planar — Support Role

2-Piece: ERR +5%. If the wearer is not the first character in the team lineup, the first character’s ATK increases by +12%.

Game8 recommends Lushaka as Kafka’s best planar for the support build: “Lushaka is Kafka’s best Ornament for its Energy Regen and ATK buff.” Icy Veins concurs: “This is Kafka’s best-in-slot Planar Ornament in most situations as it provides a needed 5% Energy Regeneration Rate.” The +5% ERR directly contributes to faster Ultimate cycling — essential for Eagle 4pc’s 25% Action Advance to trigger consistently. The +12% ATK to the first character in the lineup (typically the DoT carry — Hysilens or Black Swan) is a permanent passive buff that applies throughout every wave. Position Kafka second or later in the lineup to activate the ATK bonus for your primary DPS. Main stats: Link Rope = ERR% (mandatory for 1-turn Ultimate cycling with Eagle + Before the Tutorial); Sphere = ATK% (scales all detonation damage).

Firmament Frontline: Glamoth Alt Planar — Personal DPS

2-Piece: ATK +12%. When SPD ≥ 135, ATK additionally increases by +12%; when SPD ≥ 160, additionally by +6% (total potential +18% ATK at 160+ SPD).

The preferred planar for the personal DPS build when Kafka is running SPD-focused relics and hitting 160+ SPD. At 160 SPD with Glamoth, she gains +18% ATK from the planar alone — stacking with the +12% from Prisoner 2pc and her base ATK to create a meaningful DPS amplification. Icy Veins lists it as Kafka’s best alternative planar for the DPS build. Best used alongside Prisoner 4pc rather than Eagle (Eagle’s personal DPS gain from the action advance is less impactful when Kafka already has high SPD).

Main Stats — Relic Piece Breakdown

Body: ATK% — scales all detonation damage. EHR% body is an acceptable alternative if still below the 75% threshold after LC and substats, but ATK% is preferred once 75% EHR is secured.
Feet: SPD — mandatory. Reach the appropriate SPD breakpoint for your team (130–134 for Hysilens support, 156–170 for DPS role with signature LC).
Planar Sphere: ATK% — all of Kafka’s damage (direct hits + detonation triggers) scales with ATK. Lightning DMG% is an alternative for slightly more personal detonation damage if ATK% is already high from other sources.
Link Rope: ERR% — mandatory for Eagle 4pc + Before the Tutorial 1-turn Ultimate loop. The ERR rope enables consistent Ultimate cycling which powers the Eagle’s Action Advance. Icy Veins: “An Energy Regeneration Rate Rope is mandatory for Kafka.” Exception: Icy Veins notes that for the personal DPS build without Eagle, “ERR Rope is approximately 2.5% less DPS — using ERR rope is worse than ATK rope.” Follow this only if you’re using Prisoner 4pc + personal DPS LC instead of Eagle.

Stat Priorities & Build Targets

EHR (Floor 1)
67%
Ensures personal Shock reliably lands. Below this, Kafka’s DoT application becomes inconsistent
EHR (Floor 2)
75%+
Activates A6 “Thorns” bonus: +100% ATK to Kafka. Mandatory — this is her single biggest passive damage multiplier
SPD — Support
130–134
1 SPD slower than Hysilens (135+) so Hysilens applies DoTs before Kafka detonates them
SPD — DPS
160–170
160 for extra cycle actions; 170 required for signature LC’s dual DEF shred (Bamboozle + Theft)
ATK
2,800+
All detonation damage scales with ATK. With 75% EHR bonus (+100% ATK), base ATK investment multiplies effectively
CRIT / Break
Skip
Kafka’s DoT damage and detonation cannot crit independently. CRIT and Break Effect are completely wasted stats

Trace Priority

  • Skill — Caressing Moonlight (Lv.10, Highest Priority): Kafka’s primary action — AoE DoT detonation on all hit enemies. Higher Skill levels increase the Lightning DMG multiplier on each cast and improve the detonation rate. Since the Skill is used every turn in most rotations, every level compounds across dozens of uses per fight. Max first, always.
  • Ultimate — Twilight Trill (Lv.10, Equal Priority): Higher Ultimate levels increase the team DoT DMG buff (from 30% base) and improve the Shock duration applied to all enemies. The team DoT buff is the most critical Ultimate stat — every 1% improvement benefits Hysilens, Black Swan, and Kafka’s own DoTs simultaneously. Max alongside Skill.
  • Talent — Doomed to Be Chained (Lv.8+): The Talent follow-up attack’s DMG multiplier and Shock application rate scale with Talent level. Higher levels improve both the passive detonation damage on ally attacks and the reliability of Shock application. Level to 8 as the next priority — 10 when materials allow. Version 3.4 made the Talent trigger more frequently (on any ally attack), making each level more impactful than before.
  • Bonus Abilities — All Three (Mandatory, especially A6 “Thorns”): The A6 trace “Thorns” provides the +100% ATK at 75% EHR and refreshes Talent’s follow-up with every DoT detonation — these two effects are central to her DPS. Unlock all three through standard ascension immediately.
  • Basic ATK (Lv.1–4, Low Priority): Kafka’s Basic ATK deals minor Lightning DMG and generates SP. It’s used primarily in the support role when conserving SP for Hysilens’s Skill or in turns where SP is too low to use Skill. Leave at Lv.1; the damage is negligible and resources are better spent on Skill, Ultimate, and Talent.

Eidolons Guide

Eid. Effect Rating Notes
E0 Full base kit — AoE Skill detonation (post-3.4), Talent on any ally attack, Ultimate team DoT DMG buff (+30%), A6 “+100% ATK at 75% EHR” Complete S+ Tier E0 Kafka with Eagle 4pc, Before the Tutorial, Lushaka, and proper team is fully competitive S+ Tier. Standard banner availability makes future copies realistic for F2P players over time.
E1 Da Capo: When the Talent-triggered follow-up attack hits an enemy already afflicted with Shock, it deals additional Lightning DMG equal to 80% of Kafka’s ATK to that enemy. Personal DPS Spike A consistent personal damage increase since Kafka almost always attacks Shocked enemies (she applies Shock herself). The additional 80% ATK hit triggers every time the Talent fires on a Shocked target — frequently in DoT teams where Shock is maintained continuously. Game8 considers E1 worthwhile for DPS-focused builds.
E2 Hamlet: When Kafka is on the field, all ally DoT DMG is additionally increased by 25%. Team Amplification — Highest Value The most team-impactful Eidolon. +25% DoT DMG to all allies is a permanent, undiluted multiplicative buff affecting Hysilens’s Physical DoTs, Black Swan’s Arcana, Kafka’s own Shock detonations, and every other DoT source simultaneously. Prydwen data shows E2 Kafka dramatically improves the triple DoT team’s DPS ceiling — more than any other Eidolon except E4/E6. Highly recommended for players who want to maximise triple DoT performance.
E3 Ultimate Lv. +2 (max Lv.15), Talent Lv. +2 (max Lv.15) Incremental Higher Ultimate increases team DoT DMG buff magnitude; higher Talent improves follow-up damage. Both scale her two most important traces. En route to E4+.
E4 Recitativo: When an enemy target takes DMG from Shock inflicted by Kafka, Kafka regenerates 2 Energy. Energy Loop — Notable In a fight where Kafka has multiple enemies Shocked (Pure Fiction, multi-target MoC), each Shock tick generates 2 Energy — potentially adding 6–12+ Energy per turn across multiple enemies. This directly accelerates Ultimate cycling, enabling the Eagle 4pc + Before the Tutorial 1-turn loop even without an ERR rope in some scenarios. Strong in AoE content specifically.
E5 Skill Lv. +2 (max Lv.15), Basic ATK Lv. +1 (max Lv.10) Damage Scaling Higher Skill levels directly improve AoE detonation damage — Kafka’s primary action every turn. Meaningful per-use improvement. En route to E6.
E6 Finale: Kafka’s Talent-triggered follow-up attack now also triggers all DoT effects on the target (not just Shock) — every DoT type is detonated on each Talent proc. Additionally, the Shock inflicted by Ultimate, Technique, and Talent has DMG multiplier increased by 156% and lasts 1 turn longer. Maximum Power E6 transforms Kafka’s passive Talent into a full DoT detonation engine — every time an ally attacks (triggering Talent), all DoTs on the enemy are detonated, not just Shock. In a Hysilens team with 4 DoT types active, every Talent proc detonates all four simultaneously. Combined with the +156% Shock multiplier, E6 Kafka’s output in multi-DoT teams is extraordinary. One of the most impactful E6 effects in the game for its archetype. Reserved for the most dedicated players.

Best Team Compositions

#1 Premium

Triple DoT — The Archetype at Its Peak

⚡ Kafka (Detonator) 〰 Hysilens (DoT Carry) 🦢 Black Swan (Arcana Amp) 🦊 Huohuo (Energy + Sustain)

The definitive peak of the DoT archetype. Each character has a precisely defined role: Hysilens passively applies all four DoT types (Wind Shear, Bleed, Burn, Shock) via Talent and deploys her Zone (DEF reduction + up to 8 bonus Physical hits per DoT tick). Kafka detonates all DoTs each turn via Skill and Talent, turning every gradual tick into instant burst. Black Swan stacks Arcana through ally attacks and her own DoT application — at max stacks, her DMG multiplier per detonation is enormous. Huohuo provides team Energy (enabling Kafka and Hysilens to cycle Ultimates faster), heals, and buffs ATK.

The synergy chain: Hysilens applies DoTs → Kafka detonates them (Skill AoE, Talent on every ally attack) → Black Swan’s Arcana grows from detonations → Huohuo refills everyone’s Energy → Hysilens and Kafka cycle Ultimates more frequently → more DoTs, more detonations. Prydwen confirms this as the premier DoT team, with Kafka described as “by far Hysilens’ best synergy.” SPD order: Hysilens (135+) → Kafka (130–134) so Hysilens applies DoTs before Kafka detonates.

#2 Classic

Kafka & Black Swan — The Original Core

⚡ Kafka (Detonator) 🦢 Black Swan (DoT Carry) 🌸 Ruan Mei / Jiaoqiu (Amplifier) 🦊 Huohuo / Aventurine (Sustain)

The original gold-standard DoT team before Hysilens. Kafka detonates Black Swan’s Arcana stacks on every Skill use — each detonation also adds more Arcana stacks (detonation counts as a DoT trigger for Arcana generation), creating a cascading feedback loop. Ruan Mei provides Break Efficiency (keeping enemies Weakness Broken longer for more DoT ticks), SPD buff, and a passive team DMG% boost. Jiaoqiu is an excellent alternative — reducing enemy DEF and applying additional DoT stacks that Kafka detonates simultaneously.

Huohuo provides energy for Kafka’s Ultimate cycling (enabling consistent Eagle 4pc Action Advance procs); Aventurine is the defensive alternative, providing team-wide shields and the Unnerved CRIT DMG debuff (less synergy with DoT since DoT doesn’t crit, but protects the team). This team remains fully competitive in all endgame modes — while the Hysilens triple DoT team has a higher ceiling, Kafka + Black Swan + Ruan Mei is more accessible for players who don’t own Hysilens.

#3 Acheron

Dark Catalyst — Kafka in Acheron Teams

⚡ Kafka (Nihility + DoT) 🌑 Acheron (DPS) 🔥 Jiaoqiu (Nihility + DEF) ♠ Aventurine (Sustain)

Kafka as a Nihility support in Acheron’s team — a powerful dual-role configuration. Kafka’s Talent follow-up on ally attacks generates Slashed Dream stacks for Acheron (each follow-up attack or debuff application adds stacks). Her Shock DoT counts as a debuff, contributing more stacks. Her Ultimate’s team DoT DMG buff amplifies the DoT ticks that Acheron’s team generates. Jiaoqiu fills the second Nihility slot (mandatory for Acheron’s optimal configuration — two Nihility characters enable maximum Acheron multipliers), providing DEF reduction and additional debuff stacks.

Kafka’s primary value here is her Nihility path (enabling Acheron’s passive), her frequent attacks and follow-ups (stack generation), and her Shock DoT (additional debuff stack per turn). She doesn’t need to build around DoT detonation in this role — EHR 75% for the ATK bonus remains important, but SPD tuning relative to Hysilens is irrelevant here. Build Kafka at 156–160 SPD for maximum action frequency and stack generation.

#4 F2P

Static Storm — F2P DoT Core

⚡ Kafka (Detonator) 🌪 Sampo / Serval (DoT Filler) 🌸 Ruan Mei / Asta (Amplifier) ⚕ Natasha / Lynx (Healer)

Kafka’s F2P configuration — all 4-star or standard banner characters around her core. Sampo at E4 detonates his own Wind Shear stacks, adding additional detonation procs on top of Kafka’s Skill — his E4 is a meaningful upgrade that makes him genuinely competitive in this slot. Serval provides AoE Shock application and her kit synergises with Kafka’s detonation (Serval applies Shock → Kafka detonates it → more Shock from Talent → Serval’s next hit detonates again). Ruan Mei provides universal team DMG amplification; Asta provides SPD and ATK% at no SP cost once her Charging stacks are built.

This team functions well through Simulated Universe and lower-difficulty Memory of Chaos. For higher content, the upgrade path is clear: add Black Swan (for Arcana cascade) → add Hysilens (for Zone detonation multiplier). Kafka’s strength at E0 with only F2P teammates is notably lower than with a premium DoT duo — but even in this configuration she’s the best DoT enabler available, and the team is perfectly functional for story content and SU exploration.

⚡ SPD Turn Order — The Most Important Teambuilding Rule

In any team where Hysilens is the DoT applicator and Kafka is the detonator, Hysilens must act before Kafka every cycle. If Kafka acts before Hysilens, she detonates fewer DoTs (only those applied in previous turns) — losing a portion of each Skill’s burst potential. Target: Hysilens at 135+ SPD, Kafka at 130–134 SPD. This 1–5 SPD gap ensures Hysilens always acts first, loads all four DoT types, and then Kafka detonates them all in a single Skill burst. This rule takes priority over optimising Kafka’s personal SPD in the triple DoT team. Game8: “Make sure her SPD is slower than other DoT units so she can trigger their DoTs.”

Should You Pull Kafka?

⚡ Pull Kafka If:

  • You want to play DoT — at all. Kafka is not merely the best DoT character; she is the functional prerequisite for the entire archetype. Without Kafka, Hysilens “does not function correctly” (Prydwen). Without Kafka, Black Swan’s Arcana stacks deal DoT slowly rather than bursting. She is not optional for DoT teams.
  • You own or plan to pull Hysilens — this pairing creates the strongest DoT composition ever assembled in HSR. Every major source (Prydwen, Game8, Icy Veins) agrees: Hysilens + Kafka is non-negotiable if you want to play the DoT archetype at a competitive level.
  • You own Black Swan — the Kafka + Black Swan core remains fully competitive in HSR 4.0 even without Hysilens. This is a proven, established composition that clears all endgame content efficiently.
  • You want a standard banner character who has become even stronger over patches — unlike most standard banners who fall off, Kafka has received continuous buffs (3.4 was her biggest) and new synergies (Hysilens) that make her more valuable than ever. She’s available from standard pulls over time, making her a realistic long-term target.

⚠️ Lower Priority If:

  • Your main teams are hypercarry CRIT, FUA, or Break — Kafka provides zero value outside of DoT team compositions. Her Skill only benefits teams with DoT applied by allies. In a CRIT DPS team with no DoTs, she deals modest Lightning DMG with no additional utility.
  • You don’t have Black Swan or Hysilens and have no plan to pull them — Kafka’s power scales exponentially with quality DoT partners. In a F2P team (Kafka + Sampo + Ruan Mei + healer), she performs well but not at S+ tier levels. She’s still worth building, but set appropriate expectations.

Final Verdict: Kafka is one of the most impactful characters in Honkai: Star Rail — not because she deals the most direct damage, but because she is the engine that makes an entire archetype competitive at the highest level. Her Version 3.4 buffs elevated her from a legacy DPS to a premier support who simultaneously detonates, buffs, and enables the team’s DoT sources simultaneously. With Hysilens newly available in HSR 4.0, Kafka has reached her highest power ceiling yet. As Elio’s script demands: destiny’s slave doesn’t simply follow the plan — she is the plan. Pull her. Build her. The shock never fades.
