Who Is Klee in Genshin Impact?

Klee is a 5-star Pyro Catalyst character in Genshin Impact and one of the game’s original characters, available since its very first day. She is the youngest and most chaotic member of the Knights of Favonius in Mondstadt — an organization that has long since resigned itself to simply keeping her mischief under control.

Known as the Spark Knight, Klee is the daughter of the traveling adventurer Alice and has inherited her mother’s reckless enthusiasm for all things explosive. Her idea of fun involves homemade bombs, fishing with mines, and finding creative new ways to make Jean’s life more complicated. Despite her destructive tendencies, Klee is beloved by almost everyone in Mondstadt, who find her antics more endearing than alarming.

Her lore connects her to the Hexerei system introduced in Version 6.2, which ties together characters with a connection to magic and witchcraft. After completing her personal quest Witch’s Homework: Of Leaves That Spark, Klee officially becomes a Hexerei character. When paired with at least one other Hexerei character, she gains access to powerful bonuses that transform her from an older-gen unit into a genuinely competitive DPS option.

Klee

Understanding the Hexerei System

The Hexerei system is the most important thing to understand about Klee’s current kit. Here is how it works:

After completing the quest Witch’s Homework: Of Leaves That Spark, Klee becomes a Hexerei character. When your team includes at least two Hexerei characters, the Hexerei: Secret Rite effect activates. This unlocks a set of enhanced mechanics for Klee during her Burst:

• Klee’s Normal Attack sequence no longer resets between attacks while Sparks ‘n’ Splash is active. This prevents the frustrating animation interruption that made her clunky before.
• When Klee holds an Explosive Spark while performing Normal Attacks, the third Normal Attack automatically triggers a free Boom-Boom Strike (her enhanced Charged Attack) without consuming Stamina or breaking her combo.

Separately, Klee’s combat now uses a Boom Badge system. Each time she deals damage using a different attack type (Normal Attack, Elemental Skill, or Elemental Burst), she gains one Boom Badge, up to a maximum of three. While she holds Boom Badges, her special Charged Attack — Boom-Boom Strike — deals increased damage:

• 1 Boom Badge: 115% of original Charged Attack DMG
• 2 Boom Badges: 130% of original Charged Attack DMG
• 3 Boom Badges: 150% of original Charged Attack DMG

Klee’s Role and Playstyle

Klee functions exclusively as an On-Field Pyro Main DPS. She stays on the field and deals damage through a combination of Normal Attacks, Elemental Skill bombs, Charged Attack Boom-Boom Strikes, and her Elemental Burst. She is one of the few characters in the game who genuinely needs most of her kit working together to perform well.

Her most effective teams are Vaporize and Overloaded compositions, where her rapid Pyro application triggers powerful elemental reactions. Her AoE capability is excellent — her Jumpy Dumpty bombs split into multiple mines, and her Burst summons continuous area Pyro damage — making her especially strong against groups of enemies.

Her key weaknesses before the Hexerei buff were clunky animations and high mechanical complexity. The buff addressed both by removing Normal Attack reset issues and automating Charged Attack generation. She is still a high-skill character who rewards good rotation management, but is now far more accessible and consistent.

Klee’s Abilities and Talents

Normal Attack – Kaboom!

Klee performs up to three explosive attacks dealing Pyro DMG. Her Charged Attack throws a cluster of fire projectiles that deal AoE Pyro DMG. The enhanced version, Boom-Boom Strike, is what she uses when spending an Explosive Spark — it is stamina-free and deals significantly more damage, boosted further by Boom Badges. Her Plunging Attack deals Pyro AoE damage on impact.

Elemental Skill – Jumpy Dumpty

Klee throws Jumpy Dumpty, a bouncing bomb that deals AoE Pyro DMG each time it lands. When it finally stops, it splits into eight Scatter Mines that deal Pyro DMG to enemies who walk over them. The mines also apply Klee’s C2 DEF shred if that constellation is active.

Jumpy Dumpty is on a short cooldown and has two charges, making it one of her main sources of Pyro application between Charged Attacks. Each use also triggers the 1st Ascension Passive and generates Explosive Sparks for free Boom-Boom Strikes.

Elemental Burst – Sparks ‘n’ Splash

Klee summons a barrage of Sparks ‘n’ Splash explosions that bombard nearby enemies with continuous AoE Pyro DMG for 10 seconds. While active, this Burst enables her Hexerei: Secret Rite bonuses — the smooth Normal Attack sequence and automatic Boom-Boom Strike generation on her third Normal Attack.

Post-buff additional effects through Hexerei: Secret Rite — her Burst also regenerates 3 Energy for all party members (excluding Klee) every 3 seconds and grants all other party members a 10% Pyro DMG Bonus, while Klee herself gains a massive 50% Pyro DMG Bonus for 25 seconds after using the Burst.

1st Ascension Passive – Pounding Surprise

When Klee’s Normal Attacks or Jumpy Dumpty hit enemies, there is a 50% chance she will gain an Explosive Spark. This Spark causes her next Charged Attack to become a free Boom-Boom Strike — dealing 50% increased damage without consuming Stamina. With the Hexerei buff active, Boom-Boom Strikes are further amplified by Boom Badges.

4th Ascension Passive – Sparkling Burst

When Klee’s Charged Attack scores a Critical Hit, all party members regenerate 2 Elemental Energy. This helps the team maintain Burst uptime more easily, especially for off-field Sub-DPS characters who need energy support.

Utility Passive – All of My Treasures!

Reveals the location of nearby Mondstadt Local Specialties on the mini-map. Very useful for farming Klee’s own Philanemo Mushrooms and other Mondstadt materials needed for character ascensions.

Talent Priority for Klee

• Normal Attack and Elemental Skill tied for first – Normal Attack levels up Boom-Boom Strike (her primary damage source). Elemental Skill levels up Jumpy Dumpty. Both are core damage talents and should be leveled together to at least 9 or 10.
• Elemental Burst last – The Burst deals the least direct damage of her three talents. It is still worth leveling for the Hexerei bonuses and Pyro application, but it is the lowest priority for raw damage.

Best Weapons for Klee

5-Star Weapons

• Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds – Her best overall 5-star weapon outside of a signature option. Provides CRIT Rate and stacking Elemental DMG bonus the longer she stays on-field. Since Klee is always on-field, she quickly reaches full stacks. The movement speed bonus also helps her clunky positioning between attacks.
• Kagura’s Verity – Provides CRIT DMG and stacking Elemental Skill DMG bonuses. Each Jumpy Dumpty use gains a stack, and all three stacks together also grant a flat Elemental DMG bonus. Strong in builds that emphasize frequent Skill use.
• Skyward Atlas – High base ATK and passive ATK bonus. A generalist strong option that works cleanly without specific conditions. Good if you have it spare from another character.

4-Star Weapons

• The Widsith – Her best 4-star weapon, especially at R5. The random buff on-field entry (ATK%, Elemental DMG%, or EM) can dramatically spike her damage when the right buff lands. At R5, both the uptime and buff potency are significantly higher. Best used when you can plan around the 10-second buff window.
• Solar Pearl (Battle Pass) – Provides CRIT Rate and passively increases Elemental Skill and Burst DMG after Normal Attacks, and vice versa. Excellent synergy with Klee’s rotation where she mixes all three attack types naturally. A clean, reliable pick with no conditions to manage.
• Dodoco Tales (Event) – Klee’s event-exclusive weapon from the Midsummer Island Adventure event. If you obtained it, it is one of her best weapons, providing CRIT DMG and boosting Charged Attack DMG after Normal Attack hits (and vice versa). Synergizes directly with her Boom-Boom Strike rotation.
• Mappa Mare (Craftable) – Provides Elemental Mastery and a stacking Elemental DMG bonus when reactions are triggered. A solid free-to-play option for reaction-focused builds, especially Vaporize teams where she triggers Pyro reactions frequently.

Best Artifacts for Klee

Post-Hexerei Buff Build – 4-Piece A Day Carved From Rising Winds

This is her new best-in-slot set introduced alongside the Hexerei system. The 2-piece provides an ATK bonus. The 4-piece grants a near-unconditional 20% CRIT Rate increase and additional ATK buffs. Since Klee already has Pyro DMG Bonus as her ascension stat and generates Boom Badges regularly, this set covers her CRIT Rate needs cleanly, letting you invest artifact substats almost entirely into CRIT DMG and ATK. The result is a streamlined build with reduced stat demands and higher overall damage.

Alternative – 4-Piece Crimson Witch of Flames

The classic Klee artifact set and still one of her strongest options, especially if you don’t have good Rising Winds pieces yet. The 4-piece provides 15% Pyro DMG Bonus, increases Overloaded and Burning DMG by 40%, Vaporize and Melt DMG by 15%, and stacks Pyro DMG bonus up to three times when using the Elemental Skill. Klee’s frequent Skill use naturally maintains all three stacks. Excellent for Vaporize and Overloaded builds.

Alternative – 4-Piece Marechaussee Hunter

Provides Hydro DMG Bonus and stacking CRIT Rate when HP fluctuates. Works specifically in teams with Furina where HP changes frequently trigger the CRIT Rate stacks. Strong in that specific pairing but team-dependent.

Alternative – 4-Piece Lavawalker

Boosts damage against Pyro-afflicted enemies by 35%. Works best in Mono-Pyro teams where enemies are almost always Pyro-afflicted. High ceiling in that specific environment but restrictive in terms of team flexibility.

Recommended Artifact Main Stats

• Sands: ATK%
• Goblet: Pyro DMG Bonus
• Circlet: CRIT DMG (when using Rising Winds for CRIT Rate) or CRIT Rate

Recommended Substats

CRIT DMG > CRIT Rate (until comfortable with the 4-piece bonus providing CRIT Rate) > ATK% > Energy Recharge. Aim for at least 50–60% CRIT Rate including the Rising Winds set bonus, and push CRIT DMG as high as possible.

Best Team Compositions for Klee

Klee Vaporize Team (Premium)

• Klee (Main DPS) + Xilonen (Geo Support / RES Shred) + Furina (Hydro Sub-DPS) + Bennett (Pyro Healer / ATK Buffer)

This is her strongest current team. Bennett provides his field ATK buff and healing. Furina applies Hydro for consistent Vaporize triggers and gives the team her massive DMG Bonus buff that scales with HP changes. Xilonen shreds elemental resistance and provides additional healing support. Klee fires her Boom-Boom Strikes into the Vaporize window for enormous amplified Pyro damage. A complete and cohesive premium team with no obvious weaknesses.

Klee Vaporize Budget Team

• Klee (Main DPS) + Kaedehara Kazuha (Anemo Grouper / Buffer) + Furina or Xingqiu (Hydro) + Bennett (Pyro Healer)

Kazuha groups enemies for Klee’s AoE mines and Burst, shreds Pyro resistance with Viridescent Venerer, and shares an Elemental DMG bonus. Furina or Xingqiu handles Hydro application for Vaporize. Klee Overload Team (SS Tier)

• Klee (Main DPS) + Fischl (Electro Sub-DPS) + Durin (Pyro) + Bennett (Pyro Healer)

Klee and Fischl trigger Overloaded reactions. Fischl’s Oz provides consistent off-field Electro for Klee’s Pyro attacks to react with. Durin activates Hexerei: Secret Rite with Klee to unlock her Boom Badge mechanics. Bennett provides essential healing and ATK buff. Overloaded launches smaller enemies, which can be frustrating when enemies scatter — but in AoE situations or against larger enemies who don’t get launched, this team deals excellent damage.

Klee Hexerei Team

• Klee (Main DPS) + Durin or Sucrose (Hexerei member) + Albedo (Geo Sub-DPS) + Bennett (Pyro Healer)

The key here is a second Hexerei character — either Durin or Sucrose — to activate Hexerei: Secret Rite for Klee. Albedo provides off-field Geo Crystallize shields and consistent sub-DPS. Bennett rounds out the team with healing and ATK buffing. A team focused on maximizing Klee’s Hexerei bonuses and Boom Badge system through a smooth internal rotation.

Klee Melt / Plunge Team

• Klee (Main DPS) + Citlali (Cryo) + Furina (Hydro) + Xianyun (Anemo)

This is a newer and more advanced team that uses Xianyun to enable Klee Plunge Attacks for additional damage. Citlali applies Cryo for Melt reactions with Klee’s Pyro hits and provides support. Furina adds Hydro application and her DMG Bonus. Xianyun bounces Klee into the air for Plunging Attacks while healing. A high-skill, high-reward composition for experienced players who have all four characters.

Klee Constellations Guide

Klee is a 5-star character, so constellations are expensive. The Hexerei buffs have improved her base performance meaningfully, but constellations still add significant power. Here is a breakdown:

• C1 – Chained Reactions: Klee’s Attacks and Skills have a chance to summon Sparks that bombard opponents, dealing DMG equal to 120% of Sparks ‘n’ Splash’s DMG. Additionally, for 12 seconds after triggering this effect, Klee’s ATK is increased by 60%. This is a major personal damage boost and her strongest constellation overall. It is also available through the limited-time 5-star Constellation selector when applicable. Note that its value is slightly lower in Bennett-heavy teams due to ATK saturation.
• C2 – Explosive Frags: Enemies hit by Jumpy Dumpty’s mines have their DEF reduced by 23% for 10 seconds. With the Hexerei buff, this now also applies when enemies are hit by the Skill itself, not just the mines. A DEF shred that benefits all party members’ damage against the affected enemies. • C3 – Exquisite Compound: Increases Jumpy Dumpty (Elemental Skill) level by 3 (max level 15). A direct personal damage upgrade.
• C4 – Sparkling Explosion: When Klee leaves the field while Sparks ‘n’ Splash is active, or when Sparks ‘n’ Splash ends, an explosion deals AoE Pyro DMG equal to 555% of her ATK. With the Hexerei buff, if Klee is still on-field when the explosion occurs, its DMG is increased by 100%, making this a powerful burst of damage at the end of her Burst window.
• C5 – Nova Burst: Increases Sparks ‘n’ Splash (Elemental Burst) level by 3 (max level 15). Raises her Burst damage and the duration of the Hexerei bonuses.
• C6 – Blazing Delight: While Sparks ‘n’ Splash is active, Klee regenerates 3 Energy for all party members (excluding herself) every 3 seconds. When Sparks ‘n’ Splash is used, all other party members gain a 10% Pyro DMG Bonus for 25 seconds, while Klee gains a 50% Pyro DMG Bonus for the same duration. This constellation effectively gives the entire team a Pyro DMG boost every rotation and dramatically increases Klee’s own damage ceiling.

Summary: C1 is her most impactful personal constellation. C2 is her best constellation for team utility. C6 raises her ceiling substantially but is a luxury investment. C0 Klee is fully functional in all content after the Hexerei buffs.

Klee Ascension Materials

To fully ascend Klee from Level 1 to Level 90, you need:

• Agnidus Agate (Sliver, Fragment, Chunk, Gemstone) – Dropped by Pyro bosses including the Pyro Regisvine (west of Luhua Pool, Liyue), Pyro Hypostasis (Inazuma), and Primo Geovishap (when Pyro-infused). The Pyro Regisvine is the most efficient boss to farm since it also drops Everflame Seeds at the same time.
• Everflame Seed – Dropped exclusively by the Pyro Regisvine. You need 46 total. Spend 40 Original Resin per clear to claim rewards. Since Klee’s Utility Passive shows Mondstadt specialty locations on the mini-map, her exploration passive does not help with this Liyue boss.
• Philanemo Mushroom – A Mondstadt local specialty that grows on the walls, eaves, and rooftops of buildings in Mondstadt city, Springvale, and the surrounding towns. You need 168 total. They do not appear on the ground — look on building surfaces. Klee’s Utility Passive reveals their locations on the mini-map, making her the ideal character to use while farming these. You can also purchase a small stock from Chloris (near Windrise) and Babak for 1,000 Mora each, with 5 available per vendor every 3 days.
• Samachurl Scrolls (Divining Scroll, Sealed Scroll, Forbidden Curse Scroll) – Dropped by Samachurl enemies found across all regions of Teyvat. Easy to collect while exploring.

Klee Talent Materials

To fully upgrade all three of Klee’s talents, you need:

• Teachings, Guide, and Philosophies of Freedom – Obtained from the Forsaken Rift domain in Mondstadt on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
• Samachurl Scrolls (all three tiers) – Same drops as ascension material. Farm Samachurls while exploring.
• Ring of Boreas – A weekly boss drop from defeating Andrius (Wolf of the North) in Wolvendom, Mondstadt. Unlocked after completing the first act of Razor’s Story Quest. You need 18 total across all three talents.
• Crown of Insight – Needed to upgrade any talent to level 10. Obtained from limited-time events and special offerings.

Note: Both Normal Attack and Elemental Skill are high priorities to level for Klee. Since she needs two talents leveled equally, her total material investment is higher than characters who skip one talent. Plan your farming schedule around this.

Should You Pull for Klee?

Klee is a 5-star limited character who appears on event banners periodically. She has appeared four times since her original release and continues to be a popular option for players who enjoy aggressive on-field Pyro playstyles.

She is a great pull if you:

• Enjoy on-field Pyro hypercarry playstyles with explosive AoE damage.
• Have or plan to build Bennett and another Hexerei character to unlock her full kit.
• Want a character with high skill expression that rewards mastering animation cancels and rotation management.
• Love her design and personality — she is one of the most beloved characters in the community for good reason.

She is less ideal if you already have stronger Pyro carries like Hu Tao, Arlecchino, or Mavuika and need a second Pyro DPS. Her AoE focus is also less effective in single-target boss fights where grouping enemies is not possible.

Klee Quick Tips

• Complete Witch’s Homework: Of Leaves That Spark before building Klee. Without completing this quest, she does not have access to the Hexerei system or Boom Badge mechanics at all.
• Always pair Klee with at least one other Hexerei character to activate Hexerei: Secret Rite. Without this, her Burst no longer provides the Normal Attack combo improvements or automatic Boom-Boom Strike generation.
• Use Klee’s Elemental Skill before using Charged Attacks to generate Explosive Sparks. Each Jumpy Dumpty throw gives a 50% chance of generating a Spark, which then gives you a free Boom-Boom Strike on your next Charged Attack.
• Klee is very squishy. She takes a lot of damage from hits. Use Bennett’s Burst or Zhongli’s shield to keep her alive during her on-field DPS window.
• Her Elemental Burst has a high energy cost of 75. Make sure your team supports her Energy Recharge needs — Bennett is particularly helpful here since his particles generate a lot of energy for the team.
• For C2 owners, her Jumpy Dumpty mines shred enemy DEF by 23%. Make sure enemies walk over the mines early in your rotation to get the DEF shred active before you deal your big Boom-Boom Strike hits.
• In Overloaded teams, enemies smaller than a certain size get launched by the reaction. Try to fight near walls or use Venti/Kazuha grouping so enemies don’t scatter outside your damage range.
