TL;DR
- Brave Haven is the central hub town in Minecraft Dungeons 2. Everything comes back to this place.
- Three main merchants live here — the Town Merchant, Blacksmith, and Enchantsmith.
- The Cartographer is your main quest giver. He kicks off four of the fifteen core quests from here.
- Each merchant has three levels. You upgrade them with Echo Shards to unlock better services.
- Haven Station is your first fast travel point. It unlocks once you walk toward the gate and accept the first quest.
- If you die with no teammates alive, you respawn here. An Ender Pearl Statue then lets you return to where you fell.
- The Deep Dark portal in Brave Haven opens up later in the story, not at the start.
What Is Brave Haven in Minecraft Dungeons 2?
Brave Haven is the main hub town in Minecraft Dungeons 2. It sits at the centre of the Overworld map, and everything revolves around it. You start your journey here after escaping Squid Coast. You return here between quests to upgrade gear, buy items, and enchant your equipment.
Think of it like a home base. The town is a coastal port village filled with villagers, passive animals, and the key NPCs who run the game’s economy. No hostile mobs spawn here. It is a safe zone where you can breathe, sort your gear, and plan your next move.
If you want to understand how the whole game works, you need to understand Brave Haven first. Every other region — Honeycomb Fields, Howling Woods, the Deep Dark, Rainy Plains — feeds back into this one location.
Brave Haven Location on the Map
Brave Haven is located at the centre of the Overworld. The recommended region order starts right here at level 1, then branches outward. The full route runs: Brave Haven (level 1) → Honeycomb Fields (level 2) → Howling Woods (level 6) → The Deep Dark (level 14) → Rainy Plains (level 21) → Frozen Highlands (level 26) → Singer’s Meadow (level 33) → Humbler Huskland (level 36) → Lullaby Hills (level 42).
Brave Haven connects to the rest of the map through its Haven Station minecart. Once you unlock that station, you can fast travel to other minecart stations you discover across the Overworld. The town also has a portal entrance to the Deep Dark, which opens up later in the story after completing certain quests.
If you want to explore other regions in detail, check our guides for Rainy Plains, the Deep Dark, and Howling Woods.
All NPCs in Brave Haven
Brave Haven has three merchants and one key quest-giving NPC. Here is a breakdown of each one.
The Town Merchant
The Town Merchant sells gear — weapons, armor, and artifacts — in exchange for Emeralds. She does not appear in Brave Haven right at the start. She only shows up after you complete the third core quest, The Lost Merchant, in Honeycomb Fields. Once that quest is done, she sets up her stall in town and stays there.
At first, she only stocks Common items. You can upgrade her to sell better gear by spending Echo Shards.
- Level 1 (default): Sells Common items only.
- Level 2 — costs 10 Echo Shards: Unlocks Rare item purchases.
- Level 3 — costs 15 Echo Shards: Unlocks Special item purchases.
Her stock refreshes over time, so it is worth checking back regularly. If you see a Special item with a great affix, buy it. Do not assume it will still be there next time you visit.
The Town Merchant also appears in other settlements across the Overworld — including Howling Woods and Rainy Plains — once you unlock those areas through quests.
The Blacksmith
The Blacksmith is one of the most important NPCs in the game. He upgrades your gear’s Item Power using Emeralds, so your favourite items stay relevant as you level up. He also rerolls item affixes using Echo Shards, which lets you customise exactly how your gear performs.
He does not unlock right away either. You unlock the Blacksmith in Brave Haven after completing the fifth core quest, The Missing Note Blocks. Once he is active, all Blacksmiths across the map — including in Howling Woods, Rainy Plains, and Frozen Highlands — share the same level.
Here are his three levels:
- Level 1 (default): Upgrades Item Power on any gear. Rerolls affixes on Rare items.
- Level 2 — costs 20 Echo Shards: Unlocks rerolling affixes on Special items.
- Level 3 — costs 40 Echo Shards: Unlocks rerolling affixes on Unique items.
The first reroll on any item costs just 1 Echo Shard. But each additional reroll on the same item costs one more, so the cost climbs fast. Prioritise levelling the Blacksmith as soon as you can. You want Level 2 unlocked by mid-game so you can start tuning your Special items. Level 3 is an endgame priority for refining Unique gear.
For a full breakdown of every Blacksmith function, visit our Blacksmith and Salvaging Guide and our detailed Blacksmithing Guide.
The Enchantsmith
The Enchantsmith lets you apply Enchantment Books to your weapons and armor. Each item can only hold one enchantment at a time, so the choices you make matter. He is found right beside the Town Merchant in Brave Haven, just before the Minecart Stations.
Like the others, he does not unlock at the very start. He becomes available after you complete the fifth core quest, Training with the Enchantsmith. Most players reach this point around level 15, depending on how much side content they explore. Once unlocked, his icon appears on your map automatically.
Here are his three levels:
- Level 1 (default): Apply Enchantment Books to gear at level I.
- Level 2: Unlocks upgrading enchantments to level II.
- Level 3: Unlocks upgrading enchantments to level III.
Enchanting costs Enchantment Books, Enchantment Points, and Echo Shards. You get Enchantment Books by defeating enemies in dungeons and rifts. Soul Corrupted enemies are a key source of Echo Shards as well.
The Enchantsmith also appears in other settlements once you unlock them through the story. For a deep dive into the system, read our full enchantments guide.
The Cartographer
The Cartographer is your main quest giver in Brave Haven. He is the one who briefs you on what is happening in the Overworld and sends you out into new regions. He gives you four of the fifteen core quests directly from Brave Haven:
- The Illagers from the Rift — Core Quest 2 of 15. Strange rifts have appeared across the Overworld and illager hordes are pouring through. Brave Haven is under siege. This is the quest that gets the whole story moving.
- The Silence in Little Howl — Core Quest 4 of 15. Launched from Brave Haven.
- Corruption in the Woods — Core Quest 6 of 15. Launched from Brave Haven.
- Wading Rainy Plains — Core Quest 9 of 15. The Cartographer sends you to Rainy Plains to recover a stolen Note Block from the Supreme Evoker.
Whenever you return to Brave Haven after completing a dungeon run, speak to the Cartographer first. He is your compass for what to do next.

Haven Station — Your First Fast Travel Point
Haven Station is the minecart station inside Brave Haven. It is your entry point into the entire fast travel network. But it does not unlock the moment you arrive in town. You need to do a little story progress first.
After arriving in Brave Haven, accept the first core quest — The Illagers from the Rift — from the Cartographer, then walk toward the town gate. That short walk unlocks Haven Station automatically. From there, every new minecart station you find across the Overworld gets added to your fast travel network.
You will also notice an Ender Pearl Statue appears in town after you teleport back from a dungeon. Interacting with it sends you straight back to wherever you were before you teleported out. This two-way system means you can pop back, upgrade at the Blacksmith, stock up, then return to your exact spot in the dungeon without losing progress.
To fast travel to Brave Haven from anywhere in the world, tap the left directional button (controller) or the Z key (PC). It is instant and free.
Learn more about the full travel network in our Rifts Guide.
What Unlocks in Brave Haven and When
Not everything in Brave Haven is available from the start. Here is a clear breakdown of what opens up and at what point in the story.
- Haven Station (fast travel): Unlocks when you accept The Illagers from the Rift and walk toward the gate.
- Town Merchant: Unlocks after completing The Lost Merchant (Core Quest 3).
- Blacksmith: Unlocks after completing The Missing Note Blocks (Core Quest 5).
- Enchantsmith: Unlocks after completing Training with the Enchantsmith (Core Quest 5). Usually around player level 15.
- Deep Dark portal (in Brave Haven): Opens after completing Down into the Deep Dark. A second portal opens again during The Final Souldown.
The vendor level upgrades also have a timing. The first upgrade for any merchant becomes available at player level 15. It costs 300 Emeralds, 50 Echo Shards, and 4 Enchantment Books. From there, the individual unlock costs per merchant apply on top of that base requirement.

The Key Golem Puzzle at the Gate
Early in the game, you will find Brave Haven’s main gate closed. A villager at the gate explains that the Key Golem — a small passive creature that unlocks gates — has been scared off. You need to find it before you can progress.
Do not go searching other regions. The Key Golem is just a few seconds away. Turn back from the gate and look for the small grassy area immediately to the left of the gate approach. The Key Golem is glowing on the grass beside the short stone steps. Pick it up and carry it straight back to the gate. That opens the path forward.
Key Golems appear throughout the game, not just in Brave Haven. You will encounter them again in Honeycomb Fields, Howling Woods, and other locations as you progress.
Passive Mobs and Animals in Brave Haven
No hostile enemies spawn in Brave Haven. The town is filled with friendly and passive creatures. Here is what you will find wandering around:
- Baby Pig — Found in Brave Haven.
- Cat — Found in Brave Haven.
- Chicken — Found in Brave Haven and other early regions.
- Key Golem — The gate-unlocking passive creature. Found here and in multiple other regions.
These creatures do not drop loot or interact with combat. They are there to make the town feel alive. Brave Haven is intentionally designed as a calm, safe space between dungeon runs.
The Deep Dark Portal in Brave Haven
Brave Haven has a portal entrance to the Deep Dark. This is not available at the start of the game. It opens after you complete the story quest Down into the Deep Dark. A second portal inside Brave Haven also opens later during The Final Souldown quest.
The Deep Dark is a vertical, dark cave dimension with sculk elements and tough enemies including the Twisted Warden boss. It is a much harder zone than the early Overworld regions, so do not try to push it before the story sends you there.
For a full walkthrough of that zone, read our Deep Dark Guide.
Respawn Mechanic in Brave Haven
Brave Haven also serves as the respawn point for full party wipes. If every hero in your group dies at the same time, all players respawn here in Brave Haven and the world resets — meaning defeated enemies in that area come back to life.
For solo players, if you go down with no teammates nearby, you also respawn at Brave Haven. The Ender Pearl Statue in town then lets you return to where you fell without losing your progress in the dungeon.
This makes Brave Haven more than just a shopping hub. It is your safety net too.
Managing Your Loadout in Brave Haven
Brave Haven is the best place to sort out your gear. The game gives you a 12-slot loadout — melee weapon, ranged weapon, four armor pieces, three artifact slots, and three talisman slots. That is double the gear slots from the original Minecraft Dungeons.
Use the town’s downtime to:
- Upgrade item power at the Blacksmith to match your current level.
- Reroll bad affixes on gear you want to keep.
- Apply or upgrade enchantments at the Enchantsmith.
- Buy a gear refresh from the Town Merchant if your drops have been weak.
- Salvage unwanted items for Emeralds, which then feed back into the Blacksmith.
Get into the habit of stopping in Brave Haven after every major dungeon run. The teleport-back system and the Ender Pearl Statue make it free and instant. There is no reason not to.
For tips on your build and best gear choices, check our All Unique Items guide and our Talisman Guide.
Cosmetics in Brave Haven
Brave Haven is also where the cosmetic side of the game starts making more sense. Capes, pets, and hero skins are managed through the Collectibles tab in your menu — not in the gear slots. Capes are purely visual. They do not change your stats or use up an equipment slot.
There are five announced capes in Minecraft Dungeons 2:
- Hero Cape: Earned by playing Minecraft Dungeons and then Minecraft Dungeons 2 on the same Microsoft account before December 31, 2026.
- Twisted Cape: Pre-order reward for ordering before September 28, 2026.
- Soul Cape: Comes with the Deluxe Edition of the game.
- Corrupted Creeper Cape: Available through a promotional code.
- Special Cape: Not yet revealed.
To equip a cape, open your inventory, move to the Collectibles tab, then select the hanger icon to open the Capes category. For a full breakdown of how to equip them, see our how to equip capes guide.
