Minecraft Dungeons 2 Map Guide — Overworld vs Sift, All Regions, Minecart Routes and Fast Travel

    Minecraft Dungeons 2 Map Guide

    TL;DR

    • The Minecraft Dungeons 2 map has two worlds — the Overworld and the Sift. They are completely separate dimensions with their own regions and rules.
    • The Overworld has 9 main regions. Brave Haven sits at the centre and acts as the hub for everything.
    • The Sift has 3 regions — Singer’s Meadow, Humbler Huskland, and Lullaby Hills. You reach it through rifts that tear open across the Overworld.
    • There are 27 Minecart Stations total — 19 in the Overworld and 9 in the Sift. Finding a station adds it permanently to your fast travel network.
    • Three fast travel methods exist: Minecart Stations, instant Teleport to Brave Haven, and the Ender Pearl Statue return system.
    • Rifts are not dungeons. Rifts take you to the Sift and run under a Sift Tide (Flow, Thrive, or Endure). Dungeons stay in the Overworld.
    • Each region has its own loot pool, so where you farm matters for targeting specific gear.

How the Minecraft Dungeons 2 Map Works

The biggest change in Minecraft Dungeons 2 is the map itself. The original game gave you a simple mission select screen. You picked a level, fought through it, and came back to camp. That structure is gone in the sequel.

Minecraft Dungeons 2 replaces it with a fully connected Overworld. No mission select. No loading screen between regions. You walk from one biome into the next, stumble into caves, discover settlements, find side quests, and encounter enemies between objectives. The trip between dungeons is part of the adventure itself.

The map is split into two separate worlds — the Overworld and the Sift. Both have their own regions, their own minecart networks, and their own loot pools. Each world plays by different rules, and the Sift has a dynamic system called Sift Tides that changes how it feels every time you enter.

The Two Worlds at a Glance

    • Overworld: The main connected continent. This is where you start, where Brave Haven sits, and where the main story runs. It has 9 regions and 19 Minecart Stations.
    • The Sift: A separate dimension reached through rifts that open across the Overworld. It has 3 regions and 9 Minecart Stations. Sift Tides rotate here continuously.

The only loading screens in the game happen when you enter or leave the Sift. Everything inside the Overworld is seamless.

All Overworld Regions — Levels and What to Expect

The Overworld has 9 main regions across multiple biomes. Here they are in the order the game recommends you play them, with their recommended level.

    Brave Haven — Level 1

Minecraft Dungeons 2 Brave Haven Guide

Brave Haven is the central hub town. It is where you land after escaping Squid Coast and where you always return between dungeon runs. No hostile enemies spawn here. It has 3 merchants — the Town Merchant, the Blacksmith, and the Enchantsmith — plus the Cartographer who drives the main story. Haven Station, your first Minecart Station, is located here.

Everything connects back to Brave Haven. You can teleport here instantly at any time, and the Ender Pearl Statue in town sends you right back to wherever you were before. For a full breakdown of every NPC and unlock, see our Brave Haven Guide.

    Honeycomb Fields — Level 2

    All Quests in Honeycomb Fields
    All Quests in Honeycomb Fields

Honeycomb Fields is the first region you visit after Brave Haven. It is a bee-themed farming area with wide open paths and early Illager encounters. This is where you rescue the Lost Merchant, which unlocks the Town Merchant back in Brave Haven. You will also find your second Minecart Station here at Honeycomb Farm, which officially activates the fast travel network. Sub-areas include the Honeycomb Barn and the Plains-Peaks Link.

For loot and quest details, check our Honeycomb Fields Guide and all Honeycomb Fields item drops.

    Howling Woods — Level 6

Minecraft Dungeons 2 Howling Woods Guide
Minecraft Dungeons 2 Howling Woods Guide

Howling Woods is a large forest region and one of the most content-rich areas in the early game. It has multiple sub-areas including Little Howl Hamlet, the Woodcutter’s Outpost, the Spider Caves, a Wishing Well, and a Witch’s Hut. It holds 9 quests, 22 map points, 12 dungeon entrances, and 11 rift entrances — making it the best early-to-mid zone for farming Echo Shards and gear outside of Soul Storms.

Two of the rift entrances here lead directly to Singer’s Meadow in the Sift, connecting the Overworld to the new dimension as part of the core story progression. Read our Howling Woods Guide for the full breakdown.

The Deep Dark — Level 14

minecraft dungeons 2 deep dark portal
minecraft dungeons 2 deep dark portal

The Deep Dark is not a standard Overworld region. It is a cave dimension with sculk, low light, and vertical layouts. You access it through the Deep Dark Portal in Brave Haven, which opens after completing the Down into the Deep Dark quest. The Twisted Warden boss lives here. Sub-areas include the Deep Dark dungeon itself.

The Deep Dark is where the mid-game story escalates and connects directly to the Sift. Check our Deep Dark Guide for tips and route details.

    Rainy Plains — Level 21

    Minecraft Dungeons 2 Rainy Plains
    Minecraft Dungeons 2 Rainy Plains

Rainy Plains is a major Overworld dungeon region featuring multiple towers and the Copper Monstrosity boss encounter. Sub-areas include the White Tower, Orange Tower, Red Tower, the Supreme Evoker’s Tower, and Puddle Pond Village. It has 5 quests, 15 map points, and 6 Minecart Stations across the region. This is where the story sends you to recover a stolen Note Block from the Supreme Evoker.

Our Rainy Plains Guide covers every quest and point of interest.

    Frozen Highlands — Level 26

Minecraft Dungeons 2 Frozen Highlands 4
Minecraft Dungeons 2 Frozen Highlands 4

Frozen Highlands is the last major Overworld region before the Sift. It is a cold, mountainous biome with 19 mob types and some of the most complex terrain in the game. Sub-areas include the Frozen Fortress, the Illager Fortress, an Ice Cave, a Shipwreck, a Fishing Hut, and multiple Evoker and Enchanter Libraries. It has 13 map points and its own Minecart Stations. A secret Illager code puzzle exists inside the fortress areas.

Frozen Highlands also has its own Town Merchant, Blacksmith, and Enchantsmith — so you can manage gear without fast-travelling all the way back to Brave Haven.

All Sift Regions — Levels and What to Expect

The Sift is a brand-new dimension — the first new dimension in the Minecraft universe in over 14 years. It looks nothing like the Overworld. The environment is built from red and orange stone, green vegetation, ichor pools, teal grass, and blue trees. The enemies here are different. The rules here are different.

You reach the Sift through rifts that tear open across the Overworld. The story also uses a Deep Dark Portal powered by the Note Block Machine as the primary entry point. Once you are inside, the Sift has its own minecart network with 9 stations connecting the three regions.

    Singer’s Meadow — Level 33

Minecraft Dungeons 2 Singers Meadow enter deep dark portal
Minecraft Dungeons 2 Singers Meadow enter deep dark portal

Singer’s Meadow is the first area you encounter in the Sift. It is home to the Singer and its echo golems. The environment features red sculk, teal grass, and tall blue walls. Entering Singer’s Meadow for the first time unlocks the Sift Tides tutorial. Key locations inside include Choral Glen, Sifter Canyon, Singer’s Portal, and Wild Meadows. Main quests here are Lost Harmonies and A Monstrosity in the Meadow, which involves the Sculk Monstrosity boss fight.

    Humbler Huskland — Level 36

Humbler Huskland is the mid-region of the Sift. It contains Humbler Husks — large cave-like structures you can enter. This is where the Wrath of the Sculkers and The Final Souldown quests take place. Minecart Stations here include Ichor Ponds, Lullaby Border, and The Echo Den station.

    Lullaby Hills — Level 42

    Lullaby Hills Locations
    Lullaby Hills Locations

Lullaby Hills is the final region in the game and the highest recommended level at 42. The Redstone Monstrosity and the Grand Illusioner boss fights happen here as part of the endgame. The Illager Stronghold is located in this region. Minecart Stations include Illager Stronghold and Lullaby Hilltop. This is the hardest content the game has to offer.

Sift Tides — Flow, Thrive, and Endure Explained

The Sift has a rotating tide system that constantly changes the conditions inside. Every time you are in the Sift — whether through a rift or the main portal — one of three tides is active. Regular Overworld dungeons do not have this system. This is what makes the Sift feel different every run.

    • Flow: No special effects. Standard enemy behaviour. Use this tide to learn mob patterns and routes without extra pressure.
    • Thrive: Soul regeneration is faster and artifact cooldowns are shorter. This is the ideal tide for aggressive play. Chain your artifacts back to back and push big enemy packs.
    • Endure: More powerful mobs spawn and your passive soul regeneration stops entirely. This is the hardest tide. Play defensively. Save your souls. Do not waste artifacts.

The tide you get is not in your control. Check which tide is active before committing to a big push. Thrive is the window to be aggressive. Endure demands patience. For full details on how to farm the Sift efficiently, see our Rifts Guide.

Rifts vs Dungeons — What Is the Difference?

New players often confuse rifts and dungeons. They look similar on the map but they are not the same thing.

Dungeons are fixed locations in the Overworld. They contain either a boss encounter or a procedurally generated combat area with a special encounter at the end. Completing a dungeon rewards you with an Obsidian Chest containing gear, Echo Shards, and Enchantment Books. Dungeons do not use Sift Tides.

Rifts are glowing tears in the Overworld that transport you into the Sift. They also contain either a boss or a procedurally generated area. The key difference is that every rift runs under one of the three Sift Tides — Flow, Thrive, or Endure. Rifts also drop Sift-exclusive Enchantment Books that cannot be found anywhere else in the Overworld.

Rifts spawn in different spots each session. Check your map every time you log in to see where they have appeared. Both dungeons and rifts respawn on a timer, so you can run them repeatedly across sessions.

All Minecart Stations — Fast Travel Network Explained

Minecart Stations are the backbone of travel in Minecraft Dungeons 2. There are 27 total — 19 in the Overworld and 9 in the Sift. Finding a station by physically walking up to it adds it permanently to your fast travel network. You cannot fast travel to a station you have not discovered yet.

    Overworld Minecart Stations (19 Total)

Overworld stations are spread across all major regions. Named stations include Haven Station (Brave Haven), multiple stations across Honeycomb Fields, Howling Woods, Rainy Plains, and Frozen Highlands. Some notable named stops are the Deep Dark Entrance, Fortress Backgate, Frozen Fortress, Frozen Shipyard, Hidden Grove, Highland Cliffs, and Archie’s Ruins.

Important note: walking past a station does not activate it. You have to physically reach the station and interact with or approach it to power it on and add it to your map.

    Sift Minecart Stations (9 Total)

The Sift has its own separate minecart network. Stations are spread across its three regions. Named Sift stations include Singer’s Portal and Choral Glen in Singer’s Meadow; Ichor Ponds, Lullaby Border, and The Echo Den in Humbler Huskland; and Illager Stronghold and Lullaby Hilltop in Lullaby Hills. Unlocking a Sift station lets you fast travel directly from the Overworld into the Sift, so you do not have to walk through a rift each time.

How to Unlock Fast Travel in Minecraft Dungeons 2

Fast travel is not available the moment you load in. You need to take a few story steps first.

    1. Escape Squid Coast and arrive at Brave Haven.
    2. Speak to the Cartographer and accept the first Core Quest — The Illagers from the Rift.
    3. Walk toward the town gate. This unlocks Haven Station, your first Minecart Station.
    4. Progress through the quest until you reach Honeycomb Farm and unlock the second Minecart Station.
    5. With two stations discovered, you can now fast travel between them. The network grows with every new station you find from here.

    The Three Fast Travel Methods

The game gives you three different ways to move around quickly. Each one has a different purpose.

    1. Minecart Stations

The main fast travel system. Open the map and select any unlocked Minecart Station to travel there directly. Use this to move between regions, jump to a specific dungeon you want to run, or get to a merchant fast without walking across the whole map. You can fast travel between Overworld and Sift stations once you have discovered them in both worlds.

    2. Teleport to Brave Haven

Instant and always available. On a controller, press left on the D-pad. On PC, press Z. This teleports you directly to Brave Haven from anywhere in the game — mid-dungeon, mid-fight, or anywhere in the Overworld. Use it to visit your merchants, upgrade gear, and restock without losing your place in the world.

    3. Ender Pearl Statue

After you teleport back to Brave Haven, an Ender Pearl Statue appears in town. Interacting with it sends you straight back to wherever you were before you teleported. This is the loop: teleport to Brave Haven, upgrade and restock, then use the statue to return to your dungeon or your spot in the Overworld. No progress lost.

If you die and respawn in Brave Haven, the Ender Pearl Statue also lets you return to where you fell — as long as you were the last one standing when you went down.

Map Icons and What They Mean

The map in Minecraft Dungeons 2 uses icons to mark different types of points of interest. Here is what the main ones mean.

    • Minecart Station icon: A fast travel point. Walk to it to unlock it for your network.
    • Rift icon: A glowing tear in the world. Enter it to go to the Sift. Rifts change location between sessions.
    • Soul Storm icon: A timed event that spawns Soul Corrupted enemies — the main source of Echo Shards. There are 4 Soul Storm locations in the Overworld. Each session lasts around 40 minutes.
    • Dungeon icon: A fixed combat area in the Overworld. Enter to fight for an Obsidian Chest reward.
    • Quest icon: Marks an active quest objective or a quest-giving NPC.
    • Merchant icon: Town Merchant, Blacksmith, or Enchantsmith location.
    • Guidance: A dynamic marker that always points toward whichever quest objective you currently have selected. Use this if you get lost.

Region Order — The Recommended Route

If you want to follow the story at the right pace and stay competitive with enemy levels, play the regions in this order:

    • Brave Haven — Level 1
    • Honeycomb Fields — Level 2
    • Howling Woods — Level 6
    • The Deep Dark — Level 14
    • Rainy Plains — Level 21
    • Frozen Highlands — Level 26
    • Singer’s Meadow (Sift) — Level 33
    • Humbler Huskland (Sift) — Level 36
    • Lullaby Hills (Sift) — Level 42

The Sift regions only become accessible after significant story progress in the Overworld. Do not try to rush into them early. The gap between Frozen Highlands at level 26 and Singer’s Meadow at level 33 is substantial. Spend time farming Howling Woods dungeons and rifts to bridge that gap. Our Beginner Guide covers early game priorities in detail.

Loot Pools and Why Region Matters

Each region has its own drop pool. This means specific items — weapons, armor, artifacts — only drop in certain regions. Knowing where to farm is critical once you are targeting a specific build.

Rifts in the Sift drop Sift-exclusive Enchantment Books that cannot be found in Overworld dungeons. If you are looking for a specific enchantment, you may need to run Sift rifts rather than Overworld content. Check our full enchantments list and our all unique items guide to see which regions drop what you need.

    Map Tips — Quick Summary

    • Always activate Minecart Stations as a first priority when entering a new region. Do not wait until after you clear enemies. Stations are your lifeline.
    • Check the map for rift locations every time you log in. They respawn in different spots each session.
    • Use Teleport to Brave Haven after every major dungeon run. Upgrade gear, then use the Ender Pearl Statue to return instantly.
    • Join Soul Storms whenever they are active. They are one of the best sources of Echo Shards in the game and each lasts around 40 minutes.
    • Wait until at least player level 15 before upgrading your Brave Haven vendors. The first upgrade costs 300 Emeralds, 50 Echo Shards, and 4 Enchantment Books.
    • Follow the Guidance marker if you are unsure where to go. It always points to your current active quest objective.
    • Each region has its own loot pool. If you are hunting a specific item, make sure you are farming the right zone.

Frequently Asked Questions — Minecraft Dungeons 2 Map

How many regions are in Minecraft Dungeons 2?

There are 12 regions total and 27 sub-areas. The Overworld has 9 main regions and the Sift has 3. The recommended route runs from Brave Haven at level 1 all the way to Lullaby Hills at level 42.

What is the difference between the Overworld and the Sift?

The Overworld is the main connected continent where the story takes place. It has no loading screens between regions. The Sift is a separate dimension reached through rifts that tear open in the Overworld. The Sift has its own three regions, its own minecart network, and a rotating Tide system that changes the rules each session. The Sift is also Minecraft’s first new dimension in over 14 years.

How do I get to the Sift in Minecraft Dungeons 2?

Walk through a rift in the Overworld. Rifts are glowing tears in the world marked on your map with their own icon. They open up as you progress through the story. The main story also uses a Deep Dark portal powered by the Note Block Machine as the primary entry point into the Sift dimension.

How many Minecart Stations are there?

There are 27 total — 19 in the Overworld and 9 in the Sift. You must physically reach each station to add it to your fast travel network. Walking past a station does not activate it automatically.

    What are Sift Tides?

Sift Tides are rotating conditions that affect gameplay inside the Sift. Flow has no special effect. Thrive speeds up soul regeneration and artifact cooldowns. Endure spawns stronger enemies and stops passive soul regeneration. Regular Overworld dungeons do not have Sift Tides.

What is the difference between rifts and dungeons?

Dungeons are fixed Overworld locations that reward an Obsidian Chest on completion. Rifts transport you into the Sift and always run under a Sift Tide. Rifts also drop Sift-exclusive Enchantment Books that do not appear in Overworld dungeons. Both reset on a session timer and can be repeated.

How do I fast travel to Brave Haven?

Press left on the D-pad (controller) or Z on PC. This instantly teleports you to Brave Haven from anywhere in the game. Use the Ender Pearl Statue in town to return to wherever you teleported from.

    When does fast travel unlock?

Fast travel unlocks after you arrive in Brave Haven, accept The Illagers from the Rift quest, and walk to the gate to unlock Haven Station. Progress the quest to Honeycomb Farm to unlock the second station. With two stations discovered, the full fast travel system is live.

Is Minecraft Dungeons 2 open world?

It is a connected world but not a sandbox. You cannot mine or build. The Overworld is one seamless map with no mission select screen and no loading screens between regions. You travel across it on foot or by minecart. It is an interconnected action RPG world, not an open-world survival game.

What are PC requirements and best settings for Minecraft Dungeons 2?
