The Witcher 3: How to Get All DLC Gwent Cards (Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine)

    By Eva Roberts · September 30, 2026 · 12 min read
Hearts of Stone DLC Gwent Cards

    TL;DR

    • Hearts of Stone adds 12 new Gwent cards — a mix of quest rewards, vendor purchases, and one looted item.
    • Blood and Wine adds 43 Skellige faction cards — all won from vendors and innkeepers across Toussaint.
    • The Gaunter O’Dimm card (won from Hilbert in Open Sesame!) is the only HoS card that can be permanently missed.
    • All Blood and Wine Skellige cards have a fallback source — none are permanently missable.
    • Collecting all 43 Blood and Wine cards unlocks the I Have a Gwent Problem achievement.
    • These DLC cards are separate from the base game Card Collector achievement.

If you’ve already worked through the base game Gwent collection, the two DLC expansions add a whole new layer of cards to hunt down. Hearts of Stone drops 12 cards tied directly to the expansion’s story quests. Blood and Wine goes even further — adding a brand new 43-card Skellige faction that needs to be collected entirely from vendors and players across Toussaint.

This guide covers every DLC Gwent card in one place — where to get each one, which quests trigger them, and what to watch out for so you don’t get locked out permanently.

Hearts of Stone DLC Gwent Cards — Full List

Hearts of Stone adds 12 Gwent cards in total. These include 4 new leader cards, new neutral unit cards, and two new faction cards. Most of them are tied to specific quests in the expansion, so you need to play the cards when the opportunity appears. Miss the window and some of them are gone.

Here is every Hearts of Stone card and exactly how to get it:

Cow (Neutral Card — Strength 0)

How to get: This one is not won in a match. During the main quest Dead Man’s Party, you will visit a barn in Brunwich for a wedding celebration. Go up to the second floor of the barn and loot the Cow card from a chest or table there.

Missable? No. If you forget to grab it during the quest, you can return to the barn afterwards and find the card still on the upper floor.

Toad (Monsters Card — Strength 7, Scorch Ranged)

How to get: Challenge Olgierd von Everec to a Gwent match. You can do this either at the Garin Estate during the Dead Man’s Party quest, or at The Alchemy tavern in Oxenfurt during the Open Sesame! quest. Beat him and the Toad card is yours.

Missable? Not permanently. If you miss playing Olgierd during the story quests, the Toad card can be looted from a table at The Alchemy tavern in Oxenfurt even after the quests are complete.

Olgierd von Everec (Neutral Card — Strength 6, Morale Boost, Agile)

How to get: Challenge Shani to a Gwent match at her clinic in Oxenfurt. The best time to do this is before the final main quest Whatsoever a Man Soweth… begins. Beat her and win the Olgierd card.

Missable? Mostly no. If you miss playing Shani before the quest ends, the card appears on a table on the second floor of her clinic in Oxenfurt and can be looted afterwards.

Gaunter O’Dimm (Neutral Card — Strength 2, Muster)

How to get: During the Open Sesame! quest, you will visit the Borsodi Auction House. Inside, find and challenge Robert Hilbert to a Gwent match. Win and collect the Gaunter O’Dimm card.

Missable? This is the only card in Hearts of Stone that can be permanently lost. If you fail the Open Sesame heist or don’t play Hilbert during the quest, the primary source is gone. However, there is a fallback: you can buy the Gaunter O’Dimm card from the merchant who travels with the circus troupe northwest of the Carsten signpost near Novigrad. Don’t count on this merchant being there forever — find him as soon as you can if you missed Hilbert.

    Gaunter O’Dimm: Darkness (Neutral Card — Strength 4, Muster) — 3 copies

How to get: You need three copies of this card for the Muster ability to work at full strength. There are two sources:

    • Buy two copies from the merchant traveling with the circus troupe northwest of the Carsten signpost, Novigrad
    • Buy one copy (and sometimes more) from the Offeri Merchant at Upper Mill, also near Novigrad

Both of these are purchase-only cards — no Gwent match required. Just find the merchants and buy every copy they stock.

Schirru (Scoia’tael Card — Strength 8, Scorch Siege)

How to get: Find the caravan merchant who travels with the circus troupe northwest of the Carsten signpost, near the Vegelbud Residence in Novigrad. Beat him at Gwent to win the Schirru card.

Missable? Not permanently, but the merchant moves around so find him as early as possible in the Hearts of Stone region. He is the same merchant who sells Gaunter O’Dimm: Darkness cards.

New Leader Cards — 4 Cards (One Per Faction)

Hearts of Stone adds one new alternative leader card for each of the four main factions. These are all purchased from two vendors rather than won in matches:

    • Eredin Breacc Glas: The Treacherous (Monsters Leader — doubles spy strength) — Buy from the merchant at Upper Mill
    • Francesca Findabair: Hope of the Aen Seidhe (Scoia’tael Leader — moves agile units to optimal row) — Buy from the merchant at Upper Mill
    • Foltest: Son of Medell (Northern Realms Leader — Scorch on ranged row) — Buy from the merchant at the camp near Carsten
    • Emhyr var Emreis: Invader of the North (Nilfgaard Leader) — Buy from the merchant at the camp near Carsten

Both of these vendors are accessible early in the Hearts of Stone region. Visit them as soon as you arrive in the expansion area and buy all four leaders before moving further into the story.

Hearts of Stone — Key Missable Warning

Out of all 12 Hearts of Stone Gwent cards, only the Gaunter O’Dimm card (from Hilbert in Open Sesame!) has a real risk of being permanently lost with no reliable fallback.

Every other card in the expansion either:

    • Can be looted from a fixed location after the NPC leaves
    • Can be bought from a vendor that stays available
    • Has a second source you can fall back on

The one rule for Hearts of Stone Gwent: When you enter the Borsodi Auction House during Open Sesame!, find Hilbert and challenge him immediately before progressing with the heist.

Blood and Wine DLC Gwent Cards
Blood and Wine DLC Gwent Cards

Blood and Wine DLC Gwent Cards — The Skellige Faction

Blood and Wine introduces an entirely new Gwent faction: the Skellige deck. This is a 43-card collection that is completely separate from the base game cards. Collecting all 43 unlocks the I Have a Gwent Problem achievement — which is different from the base game’s Card Collector achievement.

The good news: no Skellige faction card is permanently missable. Every card has at least one reliable source that stays available throughout the expansion.

How to Start Collecting Skellige Cards

When you arrive in Toussaint, visit the Cockatrice Inn and speak to the innkeeper. Challenge them to Gwent and win. This triggers two quests at once:

    • Gwent: Never Fear, Skellige’s Here — tracks all 19 Skellige card players across Toussaint and marks them on your map
    • Gwent: To Everything – Turn, Turn, Tournament! — the Beauclair Gwent tournament

Also speak to Count Martin Monnier (the tournament organizer, found at the Pheasantry in Beauclair). He hands over a free starter Skellige deck of around 24 base cards including War Longship, Young Berserker, and the hero Hjalmar — you don’t need to win these, they are given to you for free. This covers roughly half of the full 43-card set from the start.

All Skellige Card Locations Across Toussaint

Once you track the Never Fear, Skellige’s Here quest, every Gwent-playing vendor in Toussaint is marked on your map. Defeat each of them and they award a fixed Skellige card. Here is the full breakdown by area:

    Beauclair

    • Innkeep — Draig Bon-Dhu
    • Merchant — Light Longship
    • Armorer — Kambi
    • Second Merchant — Clan Dimun Pirate
    • Herbalist — Mardroeme
    • Sommelier — Olaf
    • Pierre — Young Berserker
    • Ducal Camerlengo — King Bran
    • Madame — Mardroeme (second copy)
    • Butcher — Skellige Storm

    Tourney Grounds

    • Armorer — Skellige Storm (second copy)
    • Barber — Skellige Storm (third copy)
    • Innkeep — War Longship

    Francollarts

    • Armorer — Clan Drummond Shield Maiden
    • Innkeep — Ermion

    Castel Ravello Vineyard

    • Herbalist — Clan Brokvar Archer

    Flovive

    • Innkeep — Cerys (one of the stronger Skellige cards — don’t skip this one)

The remaining cards come from the starter deck given by Count Monnier. Once you beat all 19 marked players and combine that with the starter set, you will have the full 43-card Skellige collection.

Gwent: To Everything – Turn, Turn, Tournament! (Beauclair)

This is the Blood and Wine Gwent tournament held at The Pheasantry on the western edge of Beauclair. Winning it earns you 1,000 Crowns and the Victor’s Cup decoration for Corvo Bianco.

You will face four opponents in order:

    • Yaki the Dwarf — 1st round (losing here doesn’t eliminate you)
    • Random opponent — 2nd round
    • Count Martin Monnier — 3rd round (uses the Skellige deck)
    • Final opponent — Final round

The King Bran card is your reward for winning the final. However, since King Bran is also available from the Ducal Camerlengo in Beauclair before the tournament, it isn’t technically a missable card even if you lose.

Key tip: Build your Skellige deck before entering. Collect all 19 cards first. The Olaf card (Sommelier in Beauclair), the Cerys card (Innkeep in Flovive), and the Clan an Craite Warriors from the starter deck are particularly strong for tournament play.

Strategy: Keep your deck tight — around 22 to 25 cards. Use Berserker cards paired with Mardroeme for big damage combinations. Sacrifice round one deliberately to bait your opponent into wasting strong cards, then win rounds two and three cleanly. Save before each match and reload if you lose — especially against the final opponent.

Achievements Tied to DLC Gwent Cards

    • Card Collector — Base game only. Collect every unique card from the 199 base game cards. DLC cards do not count toward this.
    • I Have a Gwent Problem — Blood and Wine. Collect all 43 Skellige faction cards from Toussaint.

Hearts of Stone has no dedicated Gwent achievement, but collecting those 12 cards contributes to the full lore experience of the expansion and strengthens your deck with unique neutral cards like Gaunter O’Dimm and Olgierd von Everec.

For the full achievement checklist, see our Witcher 3 Remastered ultimate achievement guide.

Do DLC Cards Work in the Base Game Deck?

Yes. All Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine Gwent cards can be mixed into your base game decks. The new leader cards from Hearts of Stone are alternative options for each faction. The Gaunter O’Dimm Muster trio works well in any Neutral-heavy build. Skellige faction cards from Blood and Wine are their own separate deck but can be used freely once collected.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How many DLC Gwent cards are there in The Witcher 3?

Hearts of Stone adds 12 new Gwent cards. Blood and Wine adds 43 Skellige faction cards. That’s 55 new cards across both DLCs on top of the 199 base game cards.

Do Hearts of Stone Gwent cards count toward the Card Collector achievement?

No. The Card Collector achievement only covers the 199 base game cards. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine cards are separate and do not count toward it.

What is the I Have a Gwent Problem achievement?

This is the Blood and Wine Gwent achievement. You unlock it by collecting all 43 Skellige faction cards from Toussaint. Start the Never Fear, Skellige’s Here quest by visiting the Cockatrice Inn and beating the innkeeper — this marks every card source on your map.

Is the Gaunter O’Dimm Gwent card permanently missable?

Almost. The primary source is Robert Hilbert inside the Borsodi Auction House during the Open Sesame! quest in Hearts of Stone. If you miss him there, the card may be available from the merchant at the camp near Carsten. But that fallback merchant is not guaranteed to stay available forever. Treat Hilbert as your only reliable window and play him during the quest.

When should I start collecting Blood and Wine Skellige cards?

As soon as you arrive in Toussaint. Visit the Cockatrice Inn immediately, beat the innkeeper to trigger Never Fear, Skellige’s Here, then speak to Count Monnier to get the free starter deck. This marks all 19 remaining card sources on your map and makes the collection fast and stress-free.

Can I use Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine Gwent cards in base game matches?

Yes. All DLC cards can be added to any deck and used freely against any opponent in the game. The new Hearts of Stone leader cards are alternative leader options for each faction. The Skellige deck from Blood and Wine is its own faction but plays in any region.

Are any Blood and Wine Skellige Gwent cards missable?

No. Every one of the 43 Skellige faction cards has at least one permanent source in Toussaint. Once you trigger Never Fear, Skellige’s Here, every vendor source is marked on your map and stays available throughout the expansion. None can be permanently lost.

What is the best card in the Skellige Gwent deck?

Cerys (won from the innkeeper in Flovive) and Olaf (won from the Sommelier in Beauclair) are both strong picks. For combo power, the Berserker cards paired with Mardroeme are difficult to beat in tournament play. The War Longship cards from the starter deck also form a reliable backbone for the faction.
