The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Remastered: How to Get Every Gwent Card

    By Eva Roberts · September 30, 2026 · 14 min read
All Gwent Quests in The Witcher 3 Remastered 3

    TL;DR

    • Win your first Gwent match in White Orchard to start the Collect ‘Em All quest.
    • There are 7 Gwent quests in the base game and 2 more in Blood and Wine.
    • Some Gwent cards are permanently missable — always save before Gwent tournaments.
    • The Card Collector achievement requires collecting every unique card across all factions.
    • Blood and Wine adds the Skellige faction deck — a whole separate set of 43 cards.
    • The Remastered update did not change any Gwent mechanics or card locations.

Gwent is one of the best mini-games ever put into an RPG. Once it clicks, you’ll find yourself playing every innkeeper, merchant, and random NPC you come across — just to get that next card.

But collecting every Gwent card in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Remastered is a serious task. Cards are scattered across Velen, Novigrad, Skellige, and Toussaint. Some are tied to story quests. Miss a few key moments and the cards are gone forever.

This guide covers every Gwent card source, every quest, and every missable card you need to know about.

How to Start the Collect Em All Gwent Quest

The quest Collect ‘Em All is the main tracking quest for every Gwent card in the game. It opens automatically the moment you win your first Gwent match.

The best place to trigger it is right at the start of the game in White Orchard. At the inn, find the Scholar sitting at a table and challenge him to Gwent. Win the match. This starts the quest and also gives you the item A Miraculous Guide to Gwent — a book that tracks how many cards you still need in each region.

If you miss the Scholar at the inn, don’t worry. You can find the Zoltan card under the Hanged Man’s Tree in Velen and still trigger the quest. But starting early is always better.

Also buy every Gwent card from Elsa the Innkeeper in White Orchard before you leave. She sells several base cards including the Foltest: Lord Commander of the North leader card. If you miss her, you can buy the same cards from Bram the Rescued Merchant later in Velen.

All Gwent Quests in The Witcher 3 Remastered

There are 9 Gwent quests across the base game and the Blood and Wine DLC. Completing them all is what gets you the Card Collector achievement. Here they are in the order you should tackle them:

    • Collect ‘Em All — White Orchard / Multiple Regions (meta-quest)
    • Gwent: Playing Innkeeps — Novigrad (early access)
    • Gwent: Velen Players — Velen
    • Gwent: Big City Players — Novigrad
    • Gwent: Old Pals — Multiple Regions
    • Gwent: Playing Thaler — Novigrad
    • A Dangerous Game — Novigrad (with Zoltan)
    • Gwent: Skellige Style — Skellige
    • High Stakes — Novigrad (tournament)
    • Gwent: Never Fear, Skellige’s Here — Toussaint (Blood and Wine DLC)
    • Gwent: To Everything – Turn, Turn, Tournament! — Toussaint (Blood and Wine DLC)

    Gwent: Playing Innkeeps

This quest sends you to play the innkeepers across Novigrad. You can pick it up early once you reach the city. There are three main targets:

    • Olivier at the Kingfisher Inn — awards the Tibor Eggebracht card
    • Marquise Serenity at the Passiflora — awards the Menno Coehoorn card
    • One more innkeeper connected to this chain

Beat all three to complete the quest. Yennefer of Vengerberg card is also awarded through this chain.

    Gwent: Velen Players

Pick this up from the notice board at Crow’s Perch in Velen. You need to find and beat four players scattered across the region:

    • The Bloody Baron at Crow’s Perch — you can challenge him during his story quests. If he has already left, find the Dijkstra spy card attached to a list in his office.
    • Haddy the Card Prodigy in Midcopse
    • The Old Sage (Soothsayer) in Benek — awards the Crone: Weavess card
    • The Boatwright in Oreton

Completing this quest awards the Eredin: Destroyer of Worlds leader card and unlocks Gwent: Big City Players.

    Gwent: Big City Players

This quest is triggered by playing Vimme Vivaldi at the Hierarch Square bank in Novigrad, or by checking the Novigrad notice board. You have four opponents:

    • Vimme Vivaldi — bank in Hierarch Square — awards Vesemir card
    • Marquise Serenity — the Passiflora
    • Sigismund Dijkstra — his bathhouse (available during main quest Get Junior)
    • Scoia’tael Merchant — camp south of Novigrad (near the Loggers’ Hut) — awards the Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon (Ciri) card

Completing the quest awards Francesca Findabair: The Beautiful leader card.

The Ciri card is one of the strongest cards in the game. Don’t skip this quest.

    Gwent: Old Pals

This quest becomes available after you complete the main Novigrad quest Broken Flowers and can challenge Zoltan Chivay at the Rosemary and Thyme. Beating Zoltan starts the quest and awards the Eithné card. Then you need to find and beat:

    • Zoltan Chivay — Rosemary and Thyme, Novigrad
    • Vernon Roche — Temerian Partisan Outpost — awards Triss Merigold card
    • Lambert — available during the secondary quest Following the Thread
    • Thaler — Novigrad (see Playing Thaler quest below) — awards Geralt of Rivia card

You also get the Saesenthessis card from this chain. Old Pals is one of the most rewarding Gwent quests in the game — all hero cards.

    Gwent: Playing Thaler

Thaler is part of the Old Pals chain but has his own trigger. You must complete the secondary quest A Deadly Plot first. After that, find Thaler at the Nowhere Inn in Novigrad and beat him. He awards the Geralt of Rivia hero card.

Warning: If Thaler dies during the quest Reason of State (which happens if you side against Roche), his card is gone permanently. Play Thaler before making that political choice.

    A Dangerous Game (Zoltan’s Quest)

This is a secondary quest with Zoltan Chivay. During the quest, Zoltan needs help recovering three stolen Gwent cards. Complete the quest and at the end, Zoltan will offer you a choice — crowns or the three cards. Always take the cards. They are:

    • Fringilla Vigo
    • Isengrim Faoiltiarna
    • John Natalis

All three of these are required to complete Collect ‘Em All. If you take the money instead, you cannot get these cards any other way.

A Matter of Life and Death — Vegelbud Estate Mini-Tournament

During this main quest in Novigrad, you attend a masquerade at the Vegelbud Estate with Triss. In the courtyard, there is an optional Gwent mini-tournament. You must win every round to get two unique cards:

    • Dandelion
    • Milva

Warning: Once you leave the estate, the tournament tables are gone forever. Save before the quest starts and don’t leave without winning all the matches.

This quest also connects to the romance system — see our Witcher 3 Remastered all romance options guide for the Triss romance steps during this same mission.

    Gwent: Skellige Style

Pick this quest up from the notice board under Kaer Trolde fortress in Skellige. You must defeat four players to complete it:

    • Crach an Craite — Kaer Trolde Harbor — awards Draug hero card
    • Ermion — at Gedyneith — awards Leshen hero card
    • Gremist — you must first complete his personal quest Practicum in Advanced Alchemy before he will play you — awards Vampire: Katakan card
    • Sjusta the Tailor — Kaer Trolde Harbor — awards Yaevinn card

Completing the quest awards the Emhyr var Emreis: The White Flame leader card.

Important: Complete Skellige Style before you reach Battle Preparations in the main story. After that point, some Skellige NPCs may move or become unavailable. Do it early.

    High Stakes Gwent Tournament

This is the big one. The High Stakes tournament takes place at the Passiflora in Novigrad. You need 1,000 Crowns to enter. Make sure your deck is strong before attempting this.

You will face four opponents in order:

    • Bernard Tulle — 1st round
    • Madame Sasha — 2nd round
    • Finneas — 3rd round
    • Count Tybalt — Final round

You must win every match to collect all four cards. If you lose any match, you are eliminated from the tournament and cannot re-enter that run. The unique cards at stake are:

    • Eredin: Bringer of Death
    • Foltest: The Steel-Forged
    • Francesca Findabair: Queen of Dol Blathanna
    • Emhyr var Emreis: The Relentless

Always save before entering the tournament area. Losing a match means those cards are gone for that playthrough. Reload and retry until you win every round.

Winning all four rounds also gives you the Gwent Master achievement.

If you need coins to enter, check our Witcher 3 Remastered best money exploits and crown farming guide.

Shock Therapy — The Iorveth Card

The Iorveth Scoia’tael card is one of the easiest to miss because it comes from a small side quest most players skip.

Find the mute druid in Skellige and complete the secondary quest Shock Therapy. The goal is to get the druid to speak. Complete it and you will receive the Iorveth card as a reward. This is the only way to get this card — there is no other source.

    Cards from Vendors and Merchants

Not every card comes from a Gwent match or quest. Several important cards are simply bought from vendors. You should check merchants, innkeepers, and blacksmiths across each region for cards whenever you visit a new settlement. Key vendor cards include:

    • Foltest: Lord Commander of the North — Elsa the Innkeeper, White Orchard (or Bram in Velen)
    • Rainfarn (Nilfgaard) — Shopkeeper in Lindenvale, Velen
    • Morteisen (Nilfgaard) — Merchant in Midcopse, Velen
    • Menno Coehoorn (Nilfgaard) — Innkeeper at the Crossroads, Velen
    • Eredin: Commander of the Red Riders — Innkeeper Jonas at New Port Inn, Skellige
    • Fiend (Monsters) — Innkeeper in Arinbjorn, Skellige
    • Harpy (Monsters) — Innkeeper in Harviken, Skellige
    • Foglet (Monsters) — Innkeeper in Svorlag, Skellige

The general rule is simple — whenever you enter a new town, talk to the innkeeper and merchant and check if they sell Gwent cards. Buy every card you don’t already own.

Blood and Wine Gwent: The Skellige Faction Deck

The Blood and Wine DLC adds a brand new Gwent faction — the Skellige deck. This is a completely separate collection from the base game cards and has its own 43-card set.

There are two quests tied to it in Toussaint:

    Gwent: Never Fear, Skellige’s Here

This quest starts when you visit the Cockatrice Inn in Toussaint and beat the innkeeper. Winning that match triggers the quest and gives you a tracker for all 19 remaining Skellige card holders across Toussaint. Every Gwent-playing vendor in the region is marked on your map once you track this quest. Beat all of them.

You can also speak to Count Martin Monnier (the tournament organizer) to receive a free starter Skellige deck of around 24 base cards.

Gwent: To Everything – Turn, Turn, Tournament!

This quest is the Blood and Wine Gwent tournament held in Beauclair. Pick it up from any notice board in Toussaint. You need to enter, build your Skellige deck, and win the tournament to complete the quest and get the I Have a Gwent Problem achievement.

The good news — Blood and Wine Gwent cards are not permanently missable. All the Skellige card opponents are marked on the map during Never Fear, Skellige’s Here, and they stay available for the whole DLC.

Missable Gwent Cards — What You Cannot Afford to Miss

Most Gwent cards in the game can be found eventually through vendors or random opponents. But some cards are tied to specific quest moments and disappear if you miss them. Here is a summary of the most critical ones:

    • Dandelion and Milva — Win all rounds at the Vegelbud Estate mini-tournament in A Matter of Life and Death. Leave the estate and they are gone.
    • Fringilla Vigo, Isengrim, John Natalis — Take the cards (not money) from Zoltan at the end of A Dangerous Game.
    • Thaler / Geralt of Rivia card — Play Thaler before he dies in Reason of State.
    • High Stakes tournament cards — Win every round. Save before entering. Losing any match cuts you off from those cards permanently.
    • Iorveth card — Complete the Shock Therapy side quest in Skellige.
    • Gremist’s card — Complete his personal quest Practicum in Advanced Alchemy first, then play him for Skellige Style.

The safest habit: make a manual save before any Gwent tournament and before any main quest that involves a political choice. That way you can always reload if something goes wrong.

Tips for Building a Winning Gwent Deck

You don’t need the best deck to beat most opponents — but for High Stakes and Skellige Style, you need a solid build. A few quick tips:

    • Keep your deck tight. Remove weak cards so you draw your best cards more reliably. Around 22 to 25 cards is a good range.
    • Use spy cards. Cards like Sigismund Dijkstra let your opponent draw extra cards, which actually helps you — you get to play more cards than them and pull ahead in points.
    • Hero cards win games. Cards like Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer are immune to weather effects and debuffs. Stack your deck with as many as you can collect.
    • Sacrifice round one deliberately. Play weak cards in round one, let your opponent waste strong cards, then dominate rounds two and three.
    • Decoys and Commander’s Horns are powerful neutral cards. Always include at least one of each in your deck.

For a full breakdown of how to build the strongest possible deck, see our best Nilfgaardian Empire Gwent deck guide.

Does The Witcher 3 Remastered Change Any Gwent Cards?

No. The Remastered update released on September 29, 2026 did not change any Gwent mechanics, card locations, or quest structures. Everything works exactly as it did in the Complete Edition. All card locations and quest triggers are identical.

For a full list of what the Remastered version did change, see our Patch 5.0 all changes guide.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start the Collect Em All quest in The Witcher 3 Remastered?

Win your first Gwent match — the easiest opportunity is the Scholar at the White Orchard Inn right at the start of the game. Winning any Gwent match triggers the quest automatically and gives you A Miraculous Guide to Gwent to track your progress.

How many Gwent cards are in The Witcher 3 Remastered?

The base game has around 199 total Gwent cards, but the Card Collector achievement requires you to collect 120 unique cards (one of each). Blood and Wine adds a further 43 Skellige faction cards for its own achievement.

Are any Gwent cards permanently missable in The Witcher 3 Remastered?

Yes. The most critical missable cards are tied to the Vegelbud Estate mini-tournament (Dandelion, Milva), the A Dangerous Game quest with Zoltan (take cards, not money), the High Stakes tournament (win every match), and Thaler (play him before Reason of State). Always save before Gwent tournaments and political quest choices.

What is the best faction deck for the High Stakes tournament?

Nilfgaardian Empire and Northern Realms are both strong choices for the tournament. Focus on hero cards, spy cards, and a tight deck of 22 to 25 cards. See our full Nilfgaardian deck guide for build details.

Do I need to win the High Stakes tournament to complete Collect Em All?

Yes. The four unique leader cards from the High Stakes tournament are required for the Card Collector achievement. You must win every round of the tournament to collect all four cards.

When should I do Gwent: Skellige Style?

Complete Skellige Style before the main quest Battle Preparations. After that quest, some Skellige NPCs move or become unavailable. Completing it early keeps all four opponents accessible.

How do I get the Iorveth Gwent card?

Complete the secondary quest Shock Therapy in Skellige. This quest involves helping a mute druid. The Iorveth card is the reward and cannot be obtained any other way.

Does Blood and Wine add new Gwent cards?

Yes. Blood and Wine adds the Skellige faction deck with 43 cards. These are collected through the Never Fear, Skellige’s Here quest and the Beauclair tournament. These cards are not required for the base game Card Collector achievement but unlock the separate I Have a Gwent Problem achievement.

Can I still collect Gwent cards after finishing the main story?

You can continue playing after the main story ends. However, some cards tied to specific story quests may already be locked out if you progressed past the relevant cutoff points. Use A Miraculous Guide to Gwent to check which regions still have cards remaining.
