Who Is Xueyi in Honkai Star Rail?

Xueyi is a 4-star character following the Path of Destruction with the Quantum element. She is one of the four judges of the Ten-Lords Commission — her specific duty is detention. Wielding iron chains and a Mara-Sunder Awl, she inhabits a puppet body and acts as the sister of Hanya. Her pursuit of criminals is tireless and her methods are firm.

On the battlefield, Xueyi is unlike any other Destruction character. Her kit is built entirely around Toughness damage — she gains Karma stacks every time she or her allies reduce enemy Toughness, and at 8 stacks she launches a powerful follow-up attack. Her Ultimate deals a massive 120 Toughness damage to a single target while ignoring enemy Weakness type entirely, meaning she can Weakness Break any enemy in the game regardless of their elemental resistance. On top of this, her A2 Trace converts Break Effect directly into a permanent DMG% bonus — at 240% Break Effect, she gains +240% DMG% passively, making her one of the most powerful Break Effect scalers in the game.

She was made available as a free character from Apocalyptic Shadow rewards and is a worthwhile investment for any player building toward Break Effect teams.

Xueyi Skills and Abilities

Basic ATK – Mara-Sunder Awl

Deals Quantum DMG to a single target equal to 100% of Xueyi’s ATK and deals 10 Toughness damage. Generates 20 Energy and 1 Karma stack (from the Toughness damage). Used as a filler when conserving Skill Points. Less Karma-efficient than the Skill but still contributes to the rotation.

Skill – Iniquity Obliteration

Deals Quantum Blast DMG to the main target equal to 140% of Xueyi’s ATK and 70% to adjacent enemies. Deals 20 Toughness damage to the main target and 10 Toughness to adjacent targets. The Blast range and higher Toughness damage make this Xueyi’s preferred primary action — more Karma stacks per use and more targets hit. Generates 30 Energy.

Ultimate – Divine Castigation

Deals Quantum DMG to a single enemy equal to 250% of Xueyi’s ATK and deals a massive 120 Toughness damage. This Toughness damage ignores the enemy’s Weakness type — it works on any enemy, regardless of whether they have Quantum Weakness or not. If the Toughness damage Breaks the enemy, it inflicts Quantum Break (Entanglement) on them, triggering additional coordinated follow-up attacks from allies. The more Toughness remaining on the enemy when the Ultimate lands, the higher the DMG multiplier — up to a +60% DMG bonus when the target has full Toughness. Costs 120 Energy and immediately grants 4 Karma stacks from the Toughness reduction.

Talent – Karmic Perpetuation

The core of Xueyi’s damage loop. Every time Xueyi or an ally deals Toughness damage, Xueyi gains Karma stacks:

For every 30 Toughness reduced by Xueyi herself, she gains 1 Karma stack
When an ally deals Toughness damage, she gains 1 Karma stack per action

At 8 Karma stacks, Xueyi automatically launches a 3-hit follow-up attack, each hit dealing 90% ATK Quantum DMG to a single target (270% total). The follow-up also deals 15 Toughness damage per hit and restores 6 Energy in total. After the follow-up fires, any Karma stacks above the cap are carried over via the A6 Trace rather than being wasted.

Technique – Summary Execution

Deals Quantum AoE DMG to nearby enemies when entering combat and immediately reduces all their Toughness by 20. The free Toughness reduction generates Karma stacks before the first turn begins. Always use this before combat to start the fight with pre-built Karma stacks and closer to your first follow-up attack.

Major Traces

Clairvoyant Loom (A2): Xueyi’s DMG dealt increases by an amount equal to 100% of her Break Effect, up to a maximum of 240%. This is the defining trace of her entire build. At 240% Break Effect, Xueyi has a permanent +240% DMG% bonus applied to all of her attacks — one of the highest passive DMG% modifiers available to any character in the game. It makes Break Effect simultaneously a utility stat and a damage stat, meaning every point matters
Intrepid Rollerbearings (A4): When Xueyi’s Ultimate deals Toughness damage that exceeds the target’s current Toughness, the Ultimate’s DMG increases by 10%. A bonus for using the Ultimate on enemies with low remaining Toughness. A minor but clean quality-of-life buff for timing the Ultimate on weakened enemies
Perspicacious Mainframe (A6): When Karma stacks would exceed the 8-stack cap, the excess stacks carry over to the next cycle rather than being lost. Xueyi Best Light Cones (4.3)

1. On the Fall of an Aeon (Best F2P – Herta’s Store)

The recommended Light Cone for most Xueyi players and available completely free from Herta’s Store using Undying Embers. It provides ATK% that stacks up to 4 times when the wearer attacks — Xueyi’s frequent Skill, follow-up, and Ultimate attacks build these stacks rapidly. It also grants a flat DMG% bonus after inflicting Weakness Break. Since Xueyi breaks Toughness bars frequently (and can even force Weakness Break via her Ultimate’s type-ignoring Toughness damage), the DMG bonus activates reliably. A powerful free cone that competes directly with 4-star alternatives. Superimpose it to S5 over time for the full bonus.

2. Indelible Promise (4-Star – High Superimposition)

At S5, this cone provides +28% Break Effect and, after using the Ultimate, grants +15% CRIT Rate for 2 turns. The Break Effect bonus directly scales her A2 Trace’s DMG% conversion, and the CRIT Rate buff ensures her follow-up attacks and Ultimate burst windows hit critically. At S5 this cone edges ahead of On the Fall of an Aeon in total output specifically because of the Break Effect. A strong target if you accumulate duplicates over time.

3. Under the Blue Sky (4-Star)

Provides ATK% and, after defeating an enemy, increases CRIT Rate by 12% for 3 turns. Useful in content with multiple enemies where Xueyi can chain kill shots for sustained CRIT Rate. A solid alternative when Indelible Promise is not available at high superimposition.

4. I Shall Be My Own Sword (5-Star – Jingliu’s Signature)

If this is sitting unused, it is an excellent option for Xueyi. It provides +32% CRIT DMG and stacks Eclipse charges whenever allies lose HP or are attacked — at 3 stacks, the next attack ignores 20% DEF. The DEF ignore compounds with Genius of Brilliant Stars’ own DEF ignore for devastating combined damage on Quantum-weak enemies. Use it if Jingliu is not equipping it.

5. A Secret Vow (4-Star Budget)

ATK% bonus with an additional DMG% bonus against enemies with equal or higher Max HP. Xueyi frequently faces enemies at full or near-full HP, activating the conditional reliably early in fights. A usable budget fallback when nothing better is available.

Xueyi Best Relic Sets (4.3)

Genius of Brilliant Stars (4-Piece) – Best Overall (100% relative DPS per Prydwen)

The definitive relic set for Xueyi. The 2-piece gives +10% Quantum DMG. The 4-piece causes Xueyi’s attacks to ignore 10% of the enemy’s DEF when dealing damage — and if the target has Quantum Weakness, she ignores an additional 10% DEF, for a total of 20% DEF ignore. Against Quantum-weak enemies, this is one of the strongest relic set bonuses in the game — DEF ignore is a powerful multiplier that compounds with all other damage bonuses. Even against non-Quantum-weak enemies, the guaranteed 10% DEF ignore is always active. Prydwen ranks this as her best relic option at 100% relative DPS.

Thief of Shooting Meteor (4-Piece) – Best Break Effect Focus (98.46% relative)

The 2-piece gives +16% Break Effect and the 4-piece gives another +16% Break Effect plus 3 Energy on Weakness Break. The combined +32% Break Effect from the set directly feeds the A2 Trace’s DMG% conversion — more Break Effect means more permanent DMG%. The Energy recovery helps Xueyi cycle her Ultimate more frequently, generating more Karma stacks and Quantum Breaks. A very close second to Genius of Brilliant Stars and the better choice if your Thief pieces have superior substats.

The Ashblazing Grand Duke (4-Piece) – Follow-Up Alternative (95.18% relative)

Stacks ATK% after each follow-up attack hit, up to 8 stacks. Since Xueyi’s Talent follow-up is a 3-hit attack, she builds 3 stacks per proc, reaching meaningful ATK% bonuses quickly. A competitive choice specifically oriented around maximising her follow-up damage rather than Break Effect scaling. Use this if your Grand Duke pieces are significantly better-statted than your Genius or Thief pieces.

Xueyi Best Planar Ornaments (4.3)

Talia: Kingdom of Banditry (Best – Prydwen #1 at 102.56% relative DPS)

Xueyi’s top Planar Ornament at 4.3 according to Prydwen’s calculations. It gives +16% Break Effect and, when Xueyi’s SPD reaches 145 or higher, grants an additional +20% Break Effect for a total of +36%. Since every point of Break Effect converts to DMG% via the A2 Trace, this ornament provides the highest pure damage output in ideal conditions. Reach the 145 SPD threshold through SPD boots and substats to activate the full bonus — this is a mandatory build requirement when using Talia.

Rutilant Arena (Alternative without SPD threshold)

Provides +8% CRIT Rate and, when CRIT Rate is at or above 70%, increases Basic ATK and Skill DMG by 20%. A strong alternative for players who cannot consistently reach 145 SPD or whose Talia pieces have poor substats. The Skill DMG bonus is meaningful since Xueyi uses her Skill as the primary action.

Space Sealing Station (Budget Alternative)

Gives ATK% with a conditional bonus at 120 SPD. A clean, accessible ornament while farming for Talia or Rutilant Arena. The SPD threshold of 120 is easy to meet.

The most counterintuitive aspect of building Xueyi is the ATK% Planar Sphere. Most DPS characters want their element DMG% sphere. Xueyi does not — because her A2 Trace already gives her an enormous amount of DMG% from Break Effect, adding more DMG% from the sphere provides diminishing returns. ATK% is a different damage multiplier that compounds more efficiently. Always use ATK% sphere on Xueyi.

Also note: Xueyi has 37.3% Break Effect from her minor traces alone — the highest of any character in the game. A Break Effect rope immediately pushes her past 100%, which already grants a +100% DMG% bonus. Every additional piece of Break Effect gear adds directly to that bonus, up to the 240% cap.

Xueyi Best Team Compositions (4.3)

Best Team: Xueyi, Ruan Mei, Harmony Trailblazer, Gallagher

The strongest team for Xueyi in 4.3. Ruan Mei is her best support — she extends Weakness Break duration (keeping Entanglement active longer), boosts Break Efficiency so the Toughness bar breaks faster, provides SPD buffs for more turns, and amplifies DMG via her Ultimate’s RES PEN. The Harmony Trailblazer applies Super Break DMG on Xueyi’s attacks against Weakness Broken enemies — an enormous additional damage layer that stacks on top of her already substantial Break Effect scaling. Gallagher sustains with Break Effect scaling of his own, fitting naturally into the Break team’s stat spread.

Quantum Break Team: Xueyi, Silver Wolf, Ruan Mei, Fu Xuan

Silver Wolf implants Quantum Weakness on any enemy, enabling the Genius of Brilliant Stars 4-piece’s full 20% DEF ignore on every single attack. She also provides her own DEF shred debuff. Ruan Mei extends Break duration and amplifies damage. Fu Xuan provides tanky sustain with her HP matrix. Against enemies without natural Quantum Weakness, this team removes the limitation entirely.

Dual Carry Break Team: Xueyi, Fugue, Ruan Mei, Lingsha

Fugue deploys Cloudflame Luster on enemies, adding an additional Toughness bar above the standard one. This generates massive Karma stacks for Xueyi — more Toughness bars to reduce means faster follow-up attack cycling. Lingsha sustains with Break Effect synergy. A strong team for players who have Fugue and want to maximise Karma generation speed.

Mono Quantum: Xueyi, Silver Wolf, Qingque, Fu Xuan

A fun and cohesive team where Silver Wolf ensures permanent Quantum Weakness on enemies for the whole squad. Qingque hits hard with her random-tile AoE. Xueyi contributes Karma follow-ups and type-ignoring Ultimate Breaks. Fu Xuan sustains with her HP matrix and Quantum element bonus. An accessible mono-element team that all work off the same Weakness type.

Xueyi Eidolons – Are They Worth It?

As a 4-star character, Xueyi accumulates Eidolons naturally through standard pulls and featured banners. Her Eidolons are impactful — particularly E1, E2, and E4.

E1 – Dvesha, Inhibited

Increases the DMG dealt by the Talent’s follow-up attack by 40%. Since the follow-up is one of Xueyi’s most frequent and most significant damage sources — firing every 8 Karma stacks — a flat 40% follow-up DMG increase is a straightforward and impactful upgrade. The single best Eidolon for her personal damage output. Pull for this first if you can.

E2 – Klesha, Breached

The Talent’s follow-up attack now deals Toughness damage regardless of Weakness type — the same type-ignoring property that her Ultimate has. It also restores 5% of Xueyi’s Max HP per follow-up proc. Most importantly, when the follow-up Weakness Breaks an enemy, it inflicts Quantum Break (Entanglement) on them — triggering coordinated ally attacks. This means Xueyi now has two type-ignoring Toughness damage sources rather than one, significantly improving her ability to Weakness Break any enemy and trigger Entanglement consistently regardless of team composition. A very strong E2.

E4 – Karma, Severed

When using Ultimate, Break Effect increases by 40% for 2 turns. Since Break Effect directly converts to DMG% via the A2 Trace, this is effectively a +40% DMG% buff for 2 turns after every Ultimate use. Given that her Ultimate already generates 4 Karma stacks and the follow-up fires shortly after, the timing between the Ultimate and follow-up allows this buff to cover both hits. A meaningful burst damage boost on her highest-damage action cycle. Starguide notes E4 enables switching from a Break Effect rope to an ATK% rope while maintaining the same peak Break Effect during the buff window.

E6 – Saṃsāra, Mastered

The maximum Karma stack limit decreases from 8 to 6. This means the follow-up attack fires more frequently — every 6 Karma stacks rather than 8 — resulting in meaningfully more follow-up attack procs over a fight. A notable DPS increase for a fully committed Xueyi player.

Recommended stopping point: E2. E0 Xueyi is already a strong 4-star DPS. E1 is the priority first upgrade — a clean +40% to her most frequent damage source. E2 removes the Weakness type restriction from her follow-up, making her team-building and content coverage significantly more flexible. E4 and E6 are worth having if you accumulate them over time from standard banner pulls.

Xueyi Rotation Guide

Xueyi’s rotation is straightforward once you understand the Karma loop:

Use the Technique before every combat — the free 20 Toughness reduction gives Karma stacks before the first turn
Use the Skill as the primary action every turn — Blast AoE hits multiple enemies, generates the most Karma per SP, and deals solid Toughness damage to all targets
Watch the Karma counter. Use the Ultimate when Energy reaches 120 — the 120 Toughness damage immediately grants 4 Karma stacks, putting Xueyi very close to or at the 8-stack threshold. Always aim to use Ultimate on enemies with Toughness remaining (not already Broken) to benefit from the +60% DMG bonus
The Talent follow-up fires automatically at 8 stacks — no player input needed. After it fires, A6 carries over excess Karma to the next cycle
Use Basic ATK sparingly when conserving SP for other teammates. It still generates Karma stacks, just at a slower rate than the Skill
In teams with Ruan Mei or the Harmony Trailblazer: extend Weakness Break duration as long as possible — the longer enemies are Broken, the more cycles of Super Break and Entanglement coordinated attacks occur

The key to maximising Xueyi: always have Toughness bars to reduce. Her Karma generation, her Ultimate’s +60% DMG bonus, and her Entanglement proc all require active Toughness bars. Teams that keep Toughness bars broken permanently (where every attack immediately Breaks again) lose significant damage compared to teams that let bars regenerate between Breaks.

Is Xueyi Worth Using in Patch 4.3?

Yes — Xueyi is one of the most interesting and rewarding 4-star characters to invest in during 4.3. Her A2 Trace’s Break Effect to DMG% conversion is genuinely one of the strongest passive bonuses available to any character at her rarity. At full investment — 240% Break Effect, good CRIT stats, and the right supports — she deals damage that competes with many limited 5-star DPS characters while remaining completely free to obtain.

Her most important strengths in 4.3 are her type-ignoring Ultimate Toughness damage (she can Weakness Break any enemy in the game), her self-sustaining Karma follow-up loop that fires passively as allies attack, and her Quantum Break (Entanglement) which triggers coordinated ally attacks that contribute additional damage entirely outside Xueyi’s own action economy.

The honest caveats: she requires significant relic investment to reach her ceiling — Prydwen notes her investment floor is steeper than most characters, and the progression curve is long. She also underperforms in content with no Toughness bars to reduce. But for Break-focused teams with Ruan Mei, Harmony Trailblazer, or Fugue, Xueyi is an excellent and uniquely flexible DPS option in 4.3.
