What Are the Biruta and Biruta Herbalist Cogni Pets?

The Biruta and Biruta Herbalist are two Common Cogni pets in AION 2. They look different but play basically the same role in your pet collection. Both belong to the Cogni genus, which focuses on Critical Hit and HP bonuses as you level them up.

These are not just cosmetic companions. Every pet you own gives a permanent stat bonus called an Owned Effect. Leveling them up increases that bonus. At max level, both Biruta pets contribute to your Cogni Genus Insight progress, which unlocks even more stat bonuses over time.

If you are building a strong pet collection, Cogni pets like these two are a must. They are solid picks for classes that benefit from Critical Hit — which is most of them. Check our AION 2 best pets to farm for stats guide for a full breakdown on which pets to prioritize.

Biruta and Biruta Herbalist Stats – Pet Insight Levels

Both pets share the same three-level Pet Insight progression. Here is exactly what you get at each level:

Pet Insight Level 1 – Mount

    • Owned Effect: HP +10
    • Unlocks: Mount (you can ride this pet)
    • Genus Insight EXP: +500
    • Souls needed to reach Lv. 2: 25 souls

Pet Insight Level 2 – Mount Glide

    • Owned Effect: HP +20, Critical Hit +1
    • Unlocks: Mount Glide
    • Genus Insight EXP: +250
    • Souls needed to reach Lv. 3: 75 souls

Pet Insight Level 3 – Transform (Max Level)

    • Owned Effect: HP +30, Critical Hit +2, Might +1
    • Unlocks: Transform ability
    • Genus Insight EXP: +250
    • This is the highest level in the global version.

To go from zero to max, you need 5 souls to unlock the pet, then 25 more to reach Lv. 2, and 75 more to hit Lv. 3. That is 100 souls in total once you have the pet unlocked. Plan your farming ahead of time so you are not grinding longer than needed.

The Transform ability at max level lets you use Empathy Candy (Bound) to take the form of this pet. Want to know more about that system? See our AION 2 list of all pets for a full breakdown.

Biruta vs Biruta Herbalist – What Is the Difference?

Honestly, not much when it comes to stats. Both pets have:

    • The same genus — Cogni
    • The same Pet Insight bonuses at every level
    • The same required level — Level 1 (available right away)
    • Available to both Elyos and Asmodians
    • Cannot be traded or stored

The main difference is their appearance and lore design. The Biruta Herbalist has a plant-focused look, while the regular Biruta is the warrior-style variant. They also have slightly different spawn locations in the open world, which matters when you are farming souls.

Both contribute Genus Insight EXP to the same Cogni pool. So owning and maxing both is always worth it for your overall pet progression.

The Biruta Herbalist is not obtainable from Ascension Trials on Extreme difficulty the way the regular Biruta is. Keep that in mind if you are specifically hunting one over the other. For a faster way to build your collection, our AION 2 how to get pets fast guide has the most efficient routes.

Where to Farm Biruta and Biruta Herbalist Souls

Soul farming is how you level up your pet beyond Lv. 1. You get souls by defeating the monster version of the pet in the open world. Here is where to go:

    Biruta Soul Farming Locations

    • Verteron – Hunt Biruta Wanderers (Level 26) across 2 spawn areas
    • Altgard – Hunt Biruta Wanderers (Level 17) in 1 spawn area

    Biruta Herbalist Soul Farming Locations

    • Altgard – Hunt Biruta Herbalist monsters (Level 17) across 3 spawn areas

For the Biruta Herbalist, Altgard gives you 3 spawn areas in one zone, making it one of the more convenient Cogni pets to soul farm. Bring a fast mount and run the spawn routes. Once your pet hits max collection level, those kills will drop Cogni Soul Crystals instead, which feeds directly into Genus Insight.

Why Cogni Pets Matter for Your Build

Cogni pets like Biruta and Biruta Herbalist give Critical Hit bonuses as owned effects. Critical Hit is one of the most valuable offensive stats in AION 2, especially for classes like Ranger, Gladiator, and Spiritmaster.

Every Cogni pet you own and level up adds to your Cogni Genus Insight pool. Once you have enough Genus Insight EXP, you unlock slots for bonus stats that apply across your character permanently. Cogni crystals — the blue ones — drop from open-world kills once you have a Cogni pet at max level. They are used for Genus Insight Analysis to roll new bonuses in each unlocked slot.

There are 10 Genus Insight levels for Cogni, giving you up to 10 stat effects. The more Cogni pets you max, the faster you fill this bar. That is why owning both Biruta variants is useful — they both contribute.

Tips for Leveling Up Biruta and Biruta Herbalist Fast

    • Go for Altgard first — the Biruta Herbalist has 3 spawn points there, making it one of the easiest Cogni souls to farm in one zone.
    • Run Ascension Trials regularly — Nightmare Altar drops both pets across all difficulties. Easy runs are fast and repeatable.
    • Open Pet Chest: Cogni (Bound) whenever you get them — the chest has a chance to drop both pets, and duplicates convert to souls automatically.
    • Check the Black Cloud Merchants daily — the rotating stock sometimes includes both Biruta pets. If you see one, grab it.
    • Get the My Reliable Friends II Achievement — this gives a guaranteed pet drop for both, so work toward it if you have not already.
    • Max the pet to Lv. 1 before farming souls — you only need 5 souls to unlock, then start grinding the 25+75 for Insight levels.

For a broader look at progression priorities, see our AION 2 what to farm first guide.

Biruta and Biruta Herbalist in Your Pet Collection

Both pets are solid early additions to any collection. They require Level 1 to use, so you can grab and level them from the very start of the game. Even if you are not using them as your active companion, just owning and maxing them adds permanent HP and Critical Hit to your character.

If you are building toward a Transform skin, either pet works — max out Insight Lv. 3 on either one and you can transform into it using Empathy Candy.
