What Is the Urugugu Brawler in AION 2?

The Urugugu Brawler is a Cogni-type pet in AION 2. It is one of 41 Cogni pets in the game and doubles as a rideable mount. Like all Cogni pets, it gives passive HP, Critical Hit, and Might bonuses the higher you level it through the Pet Insight system.

What sets the Urugugu Brawler apart from most Cogni pets is that it has no open-world monster soul drop. You cannot farm its souls by killing a matching monster in the field. Black Cloud Merchants

The Urugugu Brawler appears in the Special and Pets tabs of the Black Cloud Merchants shop. The shop rotates its inventory, so it is not always available. Check back regularly. This is one of the more reliable ways to get it without depending on chest RNG, as long as you have the currency ready when it appears.

Ascension Trials

The Urugugu Brawler can drop as a pet reward from Ascension Trial dungeons across all available difficulties:

Nightmare Altar — Easy, Normal, Hard, and Extreme

Ascension Trials give you three entries per week. The higher the difficulty, the better the rewards in general, but the Urugugu Brawler can drop at any tier. How to Level Up the Urugugu Brawler to Lv. 3

Because the Urugugu Brawler has no monster to farm for souls, leveling it past Lv. 1 requires a different approach. Here is what to use:

Pet Soul Chest: Cogni (Bound) — Opens to give a random Cogni pet soul. This is your primary tool for stacking Urugugu Brawler souls. The Pet Soul Chest: Cogni is available from the battle pass and various reward sources.
Duplicate pet items — If you pull another Urugugu Brawler from a chest after already owning it, the duplicate automatically converts to a soul. This counts toward leveling.

The total soul cost to fully max the Urugugu Brawler is:

5 souls — Unlock at Pet Insight Lv. 1
25 more souls — Reach Pet Insight Lv. 2
75 more souls — Reach Pet Insight Lv. 3 (Max)
105 souls total — To fully max the pet

Do not spend Rainbow Soul Crystals on the Urugugu Brawler. Those universal crystals are best saved for Special genus pets. Urugugu Brawler as a Mount

Once you unlock the Urugugu Brawler at Pet Insight Lv. 1, you can equip and ride it as a mount. Its movement speeds are:

Run Speed: 900
Sprint Speed: 1,200
Glide Speed (Boosted): 800

At Pet Insight Lv. 2, you unlock Mount Glide, allowing you to glide while riding. These speeds are the same as every other Cogni pet — the genus does not specialize in movement speed the way Fera pets do. Cogni is all about HP and offensive stats.

How to Unlock Urugugu Brawler Transformation

At Pet Insight Lv. 3, the Urugugu Brawler unlocks its Transformation ability. Here is how to use it:

Requirement: Urugugu Brawler must be your equipped active pet.
Requirement: Pet must be at Pet Insight Lv. 3.
Item needed: Empathy Candy (Bound) — available from the Festival Shop for 20 Centuryroot Tokens, or as a Pet Collection Status reward (every 50 pets collected rewards 10 Empathy Candies).
Duration: 5 minutes.
Rules: You cannot mount while transformed. Cancel the transformation before switching to another pet.

Your skills remain usable during the transformation. It is mostly a cosmetic reward but a satisfying one to unlock after putting in the effort to max a chest-exclusive pet.

Is the Urugugu Brawler Worth Getting?

Yes, and specifically because it cannot be farmed from monsters.

Chest-exclusive Cogni pets like the Urugugu Brawler fill milestones that farmable pets simply cannot reach. Your Cogni Genus Insight board has collection milestones that require owning a certain number of unique Cogni pets. The harder-to-get ones — those with no open-world source — are exactly what pushes you past those later milestones. Each milestone rewards you with permanent bonuses like Critical Damage boosts.

If you are working toward a fully optimized character, picking up the Urugugu Brawler whenever it appears in the Black Cloud Merchants or falls out of a Cogni chest is the right call.
