What Are Stigma Skills in AION 2?

Stigma skills are a separate category of powerful class abilities that sit on top of your regular skill set. Every class gets 13 Stigma skills to choose from. They live under the Skills menu → Stigma tab, and they use a completely different upgrade currency called Stigma Shards.

Think of Stigma skills as your secondary loadout. They tend to have longer cooldowns and bigger effects than your normal skills. Some are huge burst damage tools. Others are crowd control, party buffs, or personal defensives. You pick the ones that fit your role and the content you are doing — then swap them depending on whether you are running PvE or PvP.

The game’s own description says to “choose appropriate Stigma Skills and switch between them, depending on the situation, such as PvP and boss fights.” That flexibility is the whole point of the system.

Stigma skills are separate from your Daevanion board. Daevanion nodes only affect your regular active and passive skills — not Stigmas. Plan them separately. For the full picture on how all your skills interact, see our AION 2 Leveling and Progression Guide.

How to Unlock Stigma Skills in AION 2

Stigma is not unlocked by level alone. You need two things at the same time.

    • Reach Level 22. Every Stigma skill in the game requires at least character level 22. Below that, the Stigma tab stays locked no matter what.
    • Complete your third Ascension quest. This quest is called The One Who Hears the Voice (both Elyos and Asmodians have a version). It is an Ascension quest with a recommended level of 22.

Once you finish the quest, your third Ascension reward arrives. It includes new wings and 1 Stigma Shard — exactly enough to learn your first Stigma at level 1. That is not a coincidence.

How to Equip a Stigma Skill

    1. Open your Skills menu.
    2. Click the Stigma tab.
    3. Select a skill and click Acquire. Level 1 costs 1 Stigma Shard point.
    4. Once acquired, register it to a Stigma quickslot. At level 22 you have one slot available.

The Stigma quickslots are mapped to Quick Use 9 through 12 by default. A Stigma skill only activates once it is registered to one of those slots. Just acquiring it is not enough.

How Many Stigma Slots Are There?

You get a maximum of 4 Stigma slots. They unlock as you level up, not all at once. Here is the breakdown:

    • Level 22: 1 Stigma slot
    • Level 27: 2 Stigma slots
    • Level 32: 3 Stigma slots
    • Level 37: 4 Stigma slots (maximum)

The cap sits at 4 and stays there regardless of how high your level goes. After the Chapter 1 update raised the level cap to 50, this cap remained at 4 registered Stigma skills at a time.

One thing that trips people up: regular active skills have specialization slots that open at skill levels 8, 12, and 20. Those are different. Do not confuse those slots with Stigma slots. Stigma slots are about how many Stigma skills you can register to your loadout.

Stigma Shard Cost — How Much Does Leveling Cost?

Stigma skills level up using Stigma Shards, not regular skill points. Every single one of the 104 Stigma skills in the game follows the same cost curve. The cost doubles every five levels.

Stigma Level RangeShards Per LevelTotal for the RangeRunning Total
    Levels 1 to 5155
    Levels 6 to 1021015
    Levels 11 to 1542035
    Levels 16 to 2084075

One Stigma at level 20 costs 75 Stigma Shard points. A full loadout of 4 Stigmas all at level 20 costs 300 points.

Leveling your character gives you about 29 Shard points by level 45, plus the 1 from your Ascension reward. That is enough for four Stigmas at level 5 and one of them pushed a bit further. The rest must come from other sources. This is why choosing which Stigmas to invest in early really matters — the last five levels cost more shards than the first fifteen combined.

Stigma Levels 20 to 25: Advanced Stigma Shards

After the Chapter 1 update, the Stigma skill level cap expanded from 20 to 25. But pushing past level 20 requires a different currency: Advanced Stigma Shards. These are Soul-bound and earned separately — one per character level-up from level 45 onward, plus one for every Stigma skill you take to level 20. Resetting a level-20 Stigma refunds the Advanced Stigma Shard. Stigma reset cost is also free as of the Chapter 1 update.

Stigma Specializations — What Unlocks at Each Level

This is the most important part of Stigma leveling that new players miss. As you raise a Stigma skill, it automatically gains new bonus effects at specific milestone levels. You do not need to slot these manually — just hitting the level is enough.

    • Level 5: First specialization unlocks
    • Level 10: Second specialization unlocks
    • Level 15: Third specialization unlocks
    • Level 20: Fourth and final specialization unlocks

To give you a real example, the Gladiator’s Wrath Wave Stigma gains up to +20% damage at level 5, a 20% Attack reduction on targets at level 10, deals damage one extra time at level 15, and gains a +25% Knockdown chance at level 20.

Some Stigma skills change completely at higher levels. A single-target skill becomes an AoE. A 30-second cooldown drops to nothing. A cast-while-standing skill becomes mobile. Always read what levels 15 and 20 unlock before committing 40 shards to the top end of any Stigma.

How to Get Stigma Shards in AION 2

Stigma Shards are slow to farm. Knowing every source helps you plan ahead. Here are all the ways to earn them:

    • Character leveling: 1 Shard point per level from level 23 onward. You get 2 points per level between levels 40 and 45.
    • Third Ascension reward: 1 Shard given automatically when you complete the quest.
    • Abyss Shop: Buy Stigma Shards with Abyss Points. The shop has four price steps: 10,000, 15,000, 20,000, and 25,000 Abyss Points per shard. Limit of 50 shards per step per character. The early steps are the best value — always buy the cheaper ones first.
    • Nightmare Shop: Costs 1,500 Phantasmal Fragments per shard. Limit of 35 per character.
    • Shugo Festival Shop: Costs 300 Centuryroot Tokens per shard. Limit of 35 per character.
    • Arena and Battlefield shops: Additional coin-based sources.
    • Achievements: 2 Stigma Shards per milestone, paid at multiple points.
    • Daeva Pass (Battle Pass): Stigma Shards appear as pass rewards.
    • Unstable Stigma Shards: These drop from party dungeons (normal and hard) and some treasure boxes. Convert them into full Stigma Shards through the Substance Morph system.

    The Special Growth Voucher

There is a Special Growth Voucher: Stigma Shard (Bound) item that raises your total Stigma Shard points to 180. Use this early, before you spend Abyss Points on shop shards. If you already have more than 180 points collected, the voucher does nothing. Points from leveling up are counted separately from the 180-point cap, so do not wait too long.

    Important Rules Around Stigma Skills

There are a few rules that will catch you out if you do not know them in advance.

    • No swapping in combat. You cannot equip or swap Stigma skills while in a fight. Plan your loadout before you engage.
    • No swapping on cooldown. You also cannot change your Stigma skill preset if any Stigma skill is currently on cooldown.
    • Resetting refunds shards. If you change your mind about a Stigma, you can reset it. All the Shard points you spent on it come back. The reset itself has a cost, and the game blocks resets you cannot afford. This makes early-level experimentation safe — levels 1 to 5 are cheap enough to test freely before committing to the expensive upper range.
    • Cleric and Chanter mantras do not stack. The Cleric’s Light of Protection and the Chanter’s Undefeated Mantra both give the same +10.5% party buff, and they do not stack. Only the higher-level one applies. If your party has both, the Chanter covers the Mantra and the Cleric should slot something else like Absolution.

Best Stigmas per Class in AION 2

Below are the top four Stigma picks for each class for PvE, the skills to prioritize for PvP, and which one to level first. These reflect what the majority of high Combat Power players at level 45 are running.

    Gladiator

    • Level first: Zikel’s Blessing (+20% Attack and +100 Accuracy for 10s on a 120s cooldown — stack your burst inside it)
    • Lunge Stance (raises Combat Speed for its duration, firing every skill in the rotation faster)
    • Lifestealing Blade (hits up to 4 enemies and heals you, making solo pulls safe)
    • Rage Burst (big hit, lowers target Attack and gives you +10% PvE Damage Boost)
    • PvP swaps: Tenaciousness and Wrath Wave for Lifestealing Blade and Rage Burst

    Templar

    • Level first: Taunt (30s cooldown, applies Shrink debuff and has a 50% Taunt chance on players)
    • Empyrean Lord’s Punishment (AoE Stun on up to 4 targets, 100% on NPCs)
    • Battlefield Banner (converts your Defense stat into Attack, so a tank’s Defense becomes threat)
    • Doom Shield (rushes to a target, knocks it down, gives you a shield, and prepares Judgment)
    • PvP swaps: Noble Armor and Grapple for Taunt and Battlefield Banner

    Assassin

    • Level first: Illusive Clone (90s, resets Heart Gore and adds 20% extra damage for 10s)
    • Swift Contract (raises Combat Speed, letting you pack more Heart Gore hits into the burst window)
    • Savage Fang (instantly engraves all 5 Insignias on up to 4 targets, enabling instant Insignia Explosion)
    • Triniel’s Dagger (highest damage coefficient on the Assassin’s Stigma list, +30% from behind)
    • PvP swaps: Shadow Walk for Savage Fang

    Ranger

    • Level first: Vaizel’s Authority (+20% Attack for 10s, castable while moving)
    • Bow of Blessing (raises Critical Hit and Accuracy — stack with Vaizel’s Authority before Deadshot)
    • Supporting Fire (summons an orb that fires Wind shots at your target and heals you)
    • Griffon Arrow (AoE hit plus Crimson Flames, a fire damage-over-time that grows when enemies move)
    • PvP swaps: Arrow Storm and Explosive Arrow for Supporting Fire and Griffon Arrow

    Sorcerer

    • Level first: Element Enhancement (+20% Fire Attack and +20% Water Attack for 10s, covering both halves of the kit)
    • Delayed Explosion (lands after a short delay, target takes 15% more damage from you while waiting — open with it)
    • Fire Wall (high coefficient plus Embers that tick every second for 10s)
    • Cold Storm (Slows up to 4 enemies and leaves a persistent Frostbite field)
    • PvP swaps: Steel Barrier and Curse: Tree for Fire Wall and Cold Storm

    Spiritmaster

    • Level first: Summon: Ancient Spirit (a 30-second spirit that hits up to 4 targets and grants Four Elements for Elemental Fusion)
    • Enhance: Spirit’s Benediction (+20% PvE Damage Boost and Damage Tolerance plus healing over time for you and your spirit)
    • Jointstrike: Corrode (damage over time on up to 4 targets, plus they take 10% more damage from your spirit)
    • Flame Blessing (gives your attacks a chance to deal extra damage on hit)
    • PvP swaps: Cry of Terror for Flame Blessing

    Cleric

    • Level first: Light of Protection (toggle, +10.5% PvE Damage Boost and Damage Tolerance for you and nearby party members)
    • Noble Aura (summons an aura that attacks your target alongside you while you heal)
    • Earth Punishment (Earth damage followed by damage over time)
    • Summon Resurrection (120s, resurrects a fallen party member within 40m)
    • PvP swaps: Absolution and Salvation for Noble Aura and Summon Resurrection

    Chanter

    • Level first: Undefeated Mantra (toggle, same +10.5% party buff as Cleric’s Light of Protection — nearly 100% of top players run this)
    • Sprint Mantra (raises Move Speed for the party and gives everyone a chance to heal on hit)
    • Power of the Storm (+20% Combat Speed, -20% cooldowns for you, -10% for party members on a 120s cooldown)
    • Marchutan’s Wrath (highest coefficient on the Chanter’s Stigma list, hits up to 4 targets and opens a Dark Crush window)
    • PvP swaps: Obliterate for Marchutan’s Wrath

    Stigma Leveling Tips

    • Level every Stigma you plan to keep to level 5 first. It only costs 5 points and unlocks the first specialization. This is almost always worth it before pushing anything higher.
    • Push your main Stigma to 10 and 15 before the others. The 4-point and 8-point bands are where shards run dry. Spread too thin and nothing reaches the good milestones.
    • Use the Special Growth Voucher before buying from the Abyss Shop. It raises your total to 180 points for free — only use it before shop purchases push you past that cap.
    • Buy cheap Abyss Shop shards first. The price steps up from 10,000 to 25,000 Abyss Points per shard. The first 50 shards are far better value than the last.
    • Run dungeons consistently. Unstable Stigma Shards drop from party dungeons quietly in the background. You may not notice them, but they add up through Substance Morph.
    • Check what level 15 and 20 unlock before investing. Some Stigmas transform completely at those milestones. Make sure the bonus is actually good for your build before spending 40 points on the top end.
    • Swap Stigmas between pulls, not mid-fight. Plan your PvE and PvP loadouts before you engage.

For deeper character build planning, check out our AION 2 Endgame Guide and our breakdown on what to farm first in AION 2.

How Stigma Fits Into Your Overall Progression

Stigma skills become active from level 22, which sits right in the middle of the leveling journey. Do not ignore them just because you are still leveling. Even getting a single Stigma to level 5 for that first specialization makes a real difference in your damage and survivability by the time you hit the dungeon phase.

By the time you reach level 45, Stigma investment becomes one of your main power levers alongside gear enhancement and Daevanion board nodes. A fully leveled Stigma loadout at level 20 adds significantly more output than raw gear upgrades at that stage. And once you start pushing toward level 50, Advanced Stigma Shards become the new bottleneck for Stigma levels 21 through 25.
