What Are Stigmas in Aion 2?

Stigmas are a separate tier of class skills — more powerful than your regular abilities and completely separate from your normal skill bar. Each class has 13 to choose from, but you can only equip up to 4 at a time.

They live in your Skills menu (K key) → Stigma tab, right next to the Mastery tab. Unlike your regular skills, Stigmas don’t level up through normal gameplay. They use a dedicated currency called Stigma Shards to unlock and upgrade.

These are build-defining skills. The Stigmas you choose and how you level them will significantly change how your character performs in combat, dungeons, and PvP. Getting them unlocked and upgraded early matters a lot.

For the complete breakdown of which Stigmas to pick and the full upgrade cost table, see our full Aion 2 Stigma Guide.

How to Unlock Stigmas in Aion 2

Two things need to happen before your Stigma tab opens up. Both are required — one without the other won’t work.

    Step 1: Reach Level 22

Every Stigma skill in the game has a character level requirement of 22. Below that, the Stigma tab is locked and greyed out no matter what. Keep progressing through the story and leveling up — 22 comes naturally during your main quest line.

If you want to reach it faster, check our How to Level Up Fast guide.

Step 2: Complete “The One Who Hears the Voice” Ascension Quest

This is the key unlock step. The quest is called The One Who Hears the Voice — both Elyos and Asmodians have their own version of it. It’s your third Ascension quest, available at the recommended level of 22.

Once you complete it, the Ascension reward arrives. Inside that reward you’ll get 1 Stigma Shard — exactly enough to unlock your very first Stigma skill immediately.

After the quest completes, open your Skills menu (K), click the Stigma tab, pick a skill, and hit Acquire. That’s your first Stigma unlocked.

Need help with this quest? See our walkthrough: Aion 2 – The One Who Hears the Voice Quest Guide.

All 4 Stigma Slot Unlock Levels

You don’t get all 4 slots straight away at level 22. They open up gradually as you continue leveling:

    • Level 22 — First Stigma slot (unlocked via the Ascension quest)
    • Level 27 — Second Stigma slot
    • Level 32 — Third Stigma slot
    • Level 37 — Fourth and final Stigma slot

The global version of Aion 2 is currently capped at 4 Stigma slots. Other regional versions (Korea and Taiwan) have allowed up to 6, but the global client sticks to 4 for now.

You can check when the next slot is coming up by pressing Esc, opening the level information screen, and reading what each upcoming level unlocks.

How to Equip and Use Stigma Skills

Once you’ve unlocked a Stigma skill, here’s how to equip it and put it to use:

    1. Press K to open the Skills menu
    2. Click the Stigma tab
    3. Select a skill you want to unlock
    4. Click Acquire — this costs 1 Stigma Shard for level 1
    5. The skill now has a colored border, showing it’s learned and active in your slot
    6. Drag it to your quickslot bar to use it in combat

Locked Stigmas show a padlock icon. Any Stigma that shows a colored frame is already learned. The number in the top-left corner of each icon tells you which quickslot key it sits on.

You can unlock more Stigma skills than your current slots allow, just to test them. But only the ones placed in active slots are usable — you can’t equip a fifth even if you’ve leveled one up.

How Much Do Stigmas Cost to Level Up?

Every Stigma starts at level 1 and can be upgraded to level 20 using regular Stigma Shards. Beyond level 20, you’ll need the rarer Superior Stigma Shards instead.

The cost doubles every 5 levels:

    • Levels 1–5: 1 Stigma Shard per level (5 total)
    • Levels 6–10: 2 Stigma Shards per level (10 total)
    • Levels 11–15: 4 Stigma Shards per level (20 total)
    • Levels 16–20: 8 Stigma Shards per level (40 total)

That’s 75 Stigma Shards to take one Stigma from level 1 to 20. To fully max all 4 Stigmas to level 20 you’d need 300 Shards total — so farming them is a real ongoing commitment.

Stigmas also unlock specializations at levels 5, 10, 15, and 20, so each milestone matters. A good early strategy is to get all 4 of your chosen Stigmas to level 5 first before pushing any single one higher.

How to Get Stigma Shards in Aion 2

Stigma Shards come from several sources. Here’s what’s available and when:

    From Leveling Up (Available Immediately)

You earn Stigma Shards automatically as you level up your character:

    • Level 22 Ascension Quest: 1 free Shard (your starter)
    • Levels 23–39: 1 Shard per level
    • Levels 40–45: 2 Shards per level

By the time you hit max level 45, you’ll have accumulated around 30 Stigma Shards from leveling alone. That’s enough for your first two or three Stigmas to an early level, but you’ll need more to push them higher.

Abyss Trade Shop (Unlocks at Level 45)

This is the biggest repeatable Stigma Shard source in the game. Once you hit max level, head to the Abyss Trade Shop and look for the Growth tab. You can buy up to 200 Stigma Shards per character, but the price increases in steps the more you buy:

    • First 50 Shards: 10,000 Abyss Points each
    • Next 50 Shards: 15,000 Abyss Points each
    • Next 50 Shards: 20,000 Abyss Points each
    • Final 50 Shards: 25,000 Abyss Points each

Always buy the cheaper tiers first. The first 50 Shards at 10,000 AP each are the most efficient use of your Abyss Points — don’t skip past them trying to save up for higher tiers.

To earn Abyss Points efficiently, see our guides on Best Duty Missions and the Spacetime Rift guide — Rift runs reward Abyss Points even past your weekly cap from other sources.

Nightmare Trade Shop (Unlocks at Level 45)

The Nightmare Trade Shop accepts Phantasmal Fragments earned from running Nightmare mode. You can buy up to 35 Stigma Shards per character here, at 1,500 Phantasmal Fragments each. It’s a smaller pool than the Abyss Shop but a solid extra source once you’re at endgame.

    Shugo Festival Shop

The Shugo Festival offers another 35 Stigma Shards per character, each costing 300 Shugo Coins (also called Centuryroot Tokens in some versions). Shugo Coins come from participating in the festival’s minigames when the event runs. The event pops up every hour on the hour, so check it regularly.

    Unstable Stigma Shards (Conversion)

Some activities drop Unstable Stigma Shards — these are crafting materials that can be converted into regular Stigma Shards through Substance Morph. Sources include Awakening Battles, Hidden Cubes, Abyss Directives, and certain dungeon runs. These are a useful bonus on top of your main shard sources rather than a primary farm.

Superior Stigma Shards: What They Are

Once a Stigma skill hits level 20, you can no longer upgrade it with regular Stigma Shards. From there you’ll need Superior Stigma Shards — a separate, rarer currency.

You earn one Superior Stigma Shard per character level from level 46 onward, and one automatically when you take any Stigma skill to level 20. These are bound to your character and can’t be traded. Don’t stress about Superior Shards early — just focus on getting your four Stigmas to level 20 with regular shards first.

    Stigma Tips for New Players

    • Pick your 4 Stigmas early and stick with them. Don’t spread shards across 6 or 7 skills trying to try everything — you’ll end up with nothing properly leveled. Choose 4 and go deep.
    • Push each Stigma to level 5 first. That’s where the first specialization unlocks for each skill. Getting all 4 to level 5 is more impactful than pushing one all the way to level 20 while the others sit at level 1.
    • Buy the cheapest Abyss Shop Shards first. The first 50 at 10,000 AP each are the best value. Don’t skip to higher tiers without clearing cheaper ones.
    • Don’t ignore the Shugo Festival. 35 free Shards per character adds up — make sure you spend those coins when the festival runs.
    • Your class has 13 Stigmas to choose from. Use the preview to read each one before spending a Shard. Unlocking costs 1 Shard regardless of which skill you pick, but you want to be deliberate about what you slot.

For class-specific Stigma recommendations, combat tips, and the full shard cost table, see the complete Aion 2 Stigma Guide. And for how Stigmas fit into your overall build, check out Skill Order Priority and the Leveling and Progression Guide.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What level do Stigmas unlock in Aion 2?

Stigmas unlock at Level 22, but only after you complete the Ascension quest “The One Who Hears the Voice.” Reaching level 22 alone is not enough — the quest must be finished first.

How many Stigma slots are there in Aion 2?

There are 4 Stigma slots in the global version of Aion 2. They unlock at levels 22, 27, 32, and 37. No additional slots are added after level 37.

How do I open the Stigma tab in Aion 2?

Press K to open the Skills menu, then click the Stigma tab next to Mastery. It becomes visible after completing the Level 22 Ascension quest.

How many Stigma Shards does it take to max a Stigma?

Taking one Stigma from level 1 to level 20 costs 75 Stigma Shards. Maxing all 4 Stigmas to level 20 costs 300 Shards total. Upgrading beyond level 20 requires Superior Stigma Shards instead.

Where do I get Stigma Shards in Aion 2?

You earn them by leveling up (about 30 by level 45), and buy them from the Abyss Trade Shop (up to 200, costs Abyss Points), the Nightmare Trade Shop (up to 35, costs Phantasmal Fragments), and the Shugo Festival Shop (up to 35, costs Shugo Coins). The Abyss and Nightmare shops unlock at level 45.

Can I unlock more than 4 Stigmas even if I can only equip 4?

Yes. You can spend Shards to unlock and level up more than 4 Stigma skills — you just can’t have more than 4 active in slots at once. Unlocking extras lets you swap builds, but only 4 are usable in combat at any time.

    What are Superior Stigma Shards?

Superior Stigma Shards are a separate upgrade currency needed to level Stigmas past level 20. You earn them from leveling past 45 and as a reward when any Stigma skill reaches level 20. Focus on regular shards first — Superior Shards become relevant only once you’ve capped a skill at 20.

Where can I play Aion 2?

Aion 2 is free to play. Download it on Steam or through the official Aion 2 website.
