TL;DR
- There are 3 Empty Injectors in the Care Center on Standard difficulty.
- A 4th Empty Injector appears in the Kitchen on Insanity difficulty only.
- Empty Injectors are used to craft Steroids (more health) and Stabilizer (better gun handling and firepower) for Grace.
- Both upgrades are permanent — do not skip them.
- Crafting them requires 120 Infected Blood and the Overdrive Manual from the Parlor.
- All 3 Care Center injectors are missable — collect them before leaving the area.
Empty Injectors are one of the most valuable crafting materials in Resident Evil Requiem. Grace uses them to craft two permanent upgrades — Steroids and the Stabilizer — which make her harder to kill and more effective in combat. There are only three to find on a standard playthrough, all of them inside the Rhodes Hill Care Center, and none of them are marked on the map until you are already close.
This guide covers every Empty Injector location in RE9, what you need before you can use them, and the one timing mistake that causes players to permanently miss the basement injector.
Resident Evil Requiem is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
What Are Empty Injectors Used For in RE9?
Empty Injectors are crafting components. When combined with Infected Blood, they let Grace craft two permanent upgrades:
- Stabilizer — increases Grace’s weapon handling and overall firepower. Makes her guns easier to control and more effective.
- Steroids — permanently increases Grace’s maximum health. This is a significant survivability boost, especially on higher difficulties.
Both upgrades can also be purchased once at the Parlor using Antique Coins early in the Care Center section. But crafting them with Empty Injectors lets you get additional doses beyond that first purchase. Since both upgrades are permanent and stack, every Empty Injector you find is worth going out of your way for.

What You Need Before Crafting
You cannot just pick up an Empty Injector and craft right away. Two things need to be in place first.
1. The Overdrive Manual. This is purchased from the Parlor in the West Wing for 6 Antique Coins. It upgrades your Blood Collector’s maximum capacity from 100 to 150 units. You need this because crafting either the Stabilizer or the Steroids requires 120 Infected Blood — more than the base collector can hold. Without the Overdrive Manual, you simply cannot carry enough blood to craft them.
2. The Blood Specimen (Reversible). This is found behind the Level 1 security door in the Blood Lab. You need this specific specimen to unlock the crafting recipes for both the Steroids and the Stabilizer.
For help getting Infected Blood efficiently, see our guide on how to get Infected Blood in Resident Evil Requiem. And for all Blood Specimen locations and their puzzle solutions, check our Blood Specimen locations guide for the Care Center.
All Empty Injector Locations in Resident Evil 9
Empty Injector 1 – Blood Lab
Location: Blood Lab, East Wing — behind the Level 1 ID security door.
The first Empty Injector is in the Blood Lab, in the same room as the Blood Specimen (Reversible). You cannot access this area during your first visit because the door requires Level 1 ID clearance. Return once you have the Level 1 ID Wristband and the door will open. The injector is sitting in the room alongside the specimen — both are in the same place, so you can grab everything in one visit.
If you already have the Overdrive Manual and 120 Infected Blood at this point, you can craft your first upgrade immediately after picking everything up.
For help getting the Level 1 ID Wristband, see our Level 1 ID Wristband location guide.
Empty Injector 2 – Records Room
Location: Records Room, second floor — accessed through the Office above the Custodian’s Office.

The second Empty Injector is in the Records Room on the upper floor of the Care Center. To reach it, you again need the Level 1 ID Wristband. Use it to unlock the door west of the Parlor, which leads to the Custodian’s Office. From there, take the stairs up to the Office area. Enter the door on the right and you will be in the Records Room. The injector is inside.
This room is easy to miss because most players focus on the Chairman’s Office puzzle box nearby. Make sure you check the Records Room before moving on. For help with that area, see our guide on the Chairman’s Office Puzzle Box in RE9.
Empty Injector 3 – Basement Holding Cells
Location: Basement — inside a cell in the Holding Cells area, near the third Joint Plug.

The third and final injector on Standard difficulty is in the Basement. As you work through the Holding Cells area searching for the Joint Plugs, a zombie will break out of one of the cells and attack Grace as you approach the location of the third Joint Plug. Defeat or avoid it, then step inside that cell to collect the Empty Injector.
Critical warning: If you insert all three Joint Plugs into the power distribution unit before entering the cell and picking up this injector, the area locks and you will lose access permanently. There is no way to return. Grab the injector from the cell before completing the Joint Plug objective.
For help with the Joint Plugs and the basement puzzle, see our guides on Joint Plug locations in RE9 and how to restart the Power Distribution Units in RE9.
Insanity Difficulty – Extra Empty Injector
Location: Kitchen — only available on Insanity difficulty.
If you are playing on Insanity mode, a fourth Empty Injector spawns in the Kitchen area of the Care Center. This bonus injector does not appear on Standard or lower difficulties. It gives you one more opportunity to craft an additional permanent upgrade for Grace, which is especially useful given how much harder Insanity mode is.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Empty Injectors
- Get the Overdrive Manual first. Save up 6 Antique Coins and buy it from the Parlor before anything else. Without it, you cannot hold enough Infected Blood to craft either upgrade.
- Collect the Basement injector before placing the Joint Plugs. This is the most commonly missed injector in the game. Do not trigger the power restoration sequence before grabbing it from the cell.
- Prioritize Steroids if you struggle with survivability. A permanent health increase is valuable throughout the entire Care Center and beyond. The Stabilizer is equally important for tougher enemies and bosses.
- Farm Infected Blood before crafting. You need 120 units per craft. Use your Blood Collector in the Blood Lab and collect from blood buckets throughout the Care Center. Check our Infected Blood guide for the fastest locations.
- Empty Injectors are not tracked on the map. They only appear on your map when you get very close to them. Explore each room carefully rather than rushing through.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many Empty Injectors are in Resident Evil 9?
There are 3 Empty Injectors on Standard difficulty, all located in the Rhodes Hill Care Center. A 4th injector appears in the Kitchen exclusively on Insanity difficulty.
What do Empty Injectors craft in RE9 Requiem?
Empty Injectors are combined with Infected Blood to craft two permanent upgrades for Grace: the Stabilizer, which improves weapon handling and firepower, and Steroids, which permanently increase her maximum health.
How much Infected Blood do you need to craft with an Empty Injector in RE9?
Each crafting use requires 120 Infected Blood. Your Blood Collector must be upgraded with the Overdrive Manual from the Parlor (costs 6 Antique Coins) to hold that amount, as the base capacity is only 100.
Can you miss the Basement Empty Injector in Resident Evil Requiem?
Yes. If you insert all three Joint Plugs before entering the zombie’s cell in the Holding Cells area, the Basement becomes inaccessible and the injector is lost permanently. Always grab it from the cell before completing the Joint Plug puzzle.
Where is the Records Room in Resident Evil Requiem?
The Records Room is on the second floor of the Care Center’s West Wing. Access it through the Custodian’s Office — take the stairs up to the Office, then go through the door on the right. You need the Level 1 ID Wristband to get in.
