Lockpicks are one of the most useful items Grace can find in the Rhodes Hill Care Center in Resident Evil Requiem. Every single locked drawer and locker in the game contains Rare Metal — the crafting material needed to make ammo for the Requiem Revolver, Grace’s most powerful weapon. There are exactly 5 Lockpicks and 5 locks, with no extras, so you need to find all of them to get everything.
None of the Lockpicks or locked containers are marked on your map until you get close. This guide lists every location in the order you will naturally encounter them, so you do not have to backtrack more than necessary.
Resident Evil Requiem is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
Why Lockpicks and Rare Metal Matter in RE9
Rare Metal is the ingredient used to craft 12.7x55mm rounds — the powerful ammo for Grace’s Requiem Revolver. The recipe requires 1 Rare Metal and 80 Infected Blood to produce 2 rounds. Given how scarce Requiem ammo is otherwise, opening every locked container in the Care Center is not optional if you want to keep the revolver loaded for tough encounters and boss fights.
To unlock the crafting recipe, you first need to find and analyze the Blood Specimen (Converged), located in the East Wing first floor Waiting Room Closet. Bring it to a microscope to learn the recipe. For more on getting Requiem Bullets, see our guide on how to get Requiem Bullets in RE9.
Opening your very first locked drawer also unlocks the Like Mother, Like Daughter trophy and achievement, so do not wait too long.
All Lockpick Locations in RE9 Care Center
There are 5 Lockpicks in total. Three are in the main Care Center building and two are in the Basement. They are listed below in the order you will most naturally encounter them.
Lockpick 1 – East Wing 2F, Lead Researcher’s Office
Location: On a table near the reception area inside the Lead Researcher’s Office on the second floor of the East Wing.
This is the first Lockpick most players encounter. Head upstairs to the East Wing second floor during your search for the Level 1 ID Wristband. The Lead Researcher’s Office has a save point typewriter in the room — check the table near the reception area and you will spot the Lockpick. Pick it up before dealing with Chunk, which appears just down the corridor from here. For help with that encounter, see our guide on how to kill the Chunk in RE9.
Lockpick 2 – West Wing 1F, Custodian’s Office
Location: Inside a locker in the Custodian’s Office on the first floor of the West Wing.

After obtaining the Level 1 ID Wristband, head west of the Parlor and use the wristband to open the locked door. Follow the corridor and look on your left for the Custodian’s Office. This room has a typewriter for saving and a storage chest. The second Lockpick is inside a locker in this room. The Custodian’s Office also provides access to the upper floors — from here you can reach the Office area and Records Room.
Lockpick 3 – West Wing 2F, Office
Location: On a desk covered with paperwork in the Office area on the second floor of the West Wing.

From the Custodian’s Office, take the stairs up to the second floor and enter the Office area. The third Lockpick is sitting on top of one of the work desks. Scan the room carefully — it can blend into the cluttered desk surface. There is no puzzle attached to this one. Just walk in and pick it up.
Lockpick 4 – Basement, Furnace Ventilation Shaft
Location: Inside a ventilation shaft in the Furnace area of the Basement, to the left before the right turn.

While searching for Joint Plugs in the Basement, you will need to enter the Furnace area. Look to the right of the Forklift and find the small vent opening you need to crawl through. Once inside, before turning right, look to your left. The fourth Lockpick is sitting inside the shaft. This one is very easy to miss because players are usually focused entirely on the Joint Plug objective and rush through the vent without looking around. For the full Joint Plug walkthrough, see our Joint Plugs Basement locations guide for RE9.
Lockpick 5 – Basement, Boiler Room
Location: On the ground inside the Boiler Room, lying in the water.

The fifth and final Lockpick is in the Boiler Room deep in the Basement. To access it safely, use a Joint Plug at the northeast terminal first. This redirects the power and stops the water on the floor from electrocuting Grace. Without doing this, the flooded floor is deadly. Once the power is rerouted, enter the Boiler Room and pick up the Lockpick from the ground. For help with the power system in the Basement, see our guide on how to restart the Power Distribution Units in RE9.
All Locked Drawer and Locker Locations in RE9 Care Center
There are 5 locked containers in total — 3 drawers in the main Care Center and 2 lockers in the Basement. Every single one contains Rare Metal. Here is exactly where to find them.
Locked Drawer 1 – West Wing 1F, Restroom Corridor
Location: At the dead end of the corridor just outside the Restroom on the first floor of the West Wing, near the Kitchen.

This is the first locked drawer you will likely come across. It sits at the end of a dark hallway on the south side of the West Wing, close to the Restroom and near the zombie near the light switch by the Kitchen area. It is easy to walk past in the dark. Look for the cabinet along the wall as you move through this corridor and open it with a Lockpick.
Locked Drawer 2 – East Wing 1F, Lobby
Location: Along the wall of the East Wing Lobby on the first floor, across from a Mr. Raccoon collectible.

As soon as you enter the East Wing Lobby, look immediately to your right or along the south wall. The locked drawer is positioned across from the Mr. Raccoon Memoriam statue, which makes it a useful landmark. The area can be dark so take a moment to look around before heading deeper into the East Wing. For all Mr. Raccoon locations in the Care Center, see our Mr. Raccoon Memoriam locations guide for the Care Center.
Locked Drawer 3 – West Wing 2F, Outside Chairman’s Office
Location: Just outside the Chairman’s Office door on the second floor of the West Wing.

You will naturally pass this drawer while working through the Chairman’s Office puzzle. As you approach the office entrance, look to the side of the corridor — the drawer is right there along the wall. Since the story sends you to the Chairman’s Office anyway, this one is the hardest to miss. Still, many players walk past it because they are focused on the puzzle box inside. For help with that puzzle, see our Chairman’s Office Puzzle Box guide for RE9.
Locked Locker 4 – Basement, Bunkroom
Location: Inside the Bunkroom in the Basement, in a row of blue lockers on the east side of the room — specifically the left locker.

The Bunkroom is an optional area in the Basement. To access it, use a Joint Plug at the terminal outside the Boiler Room — this opens the Security Room entrance that leads to the Bunkroom. Inside you will find a Mr. Raccoon Memoriam collectible as well as the locked locker. Use a Lockpick on the left locker in the row to get the Rare Metal. Do not skip this area even though it is optional.
Locked Locker 5 – Basement, Inspection Room
Location: Inside the Inspection Room in the Basement, to the left as you enter.

The Inspection Room is located just past the Forklift in the Basement — the area with the hanging body bags. To reach it, first collect the Forklift Key from the Processing Room, then use it to activate the Forklift in the Furnace area. This clears the path to the Inspection Room. Once inside, look to the left and you will find the fifth and final locker with a simple lock. Open it with your last Lockpick to collect the final Rare Metal.

Tips for Getting Every Lockpick and Rare Metal
- Use each Lockpick as soon as you find one. There is no benefit to holding onto them — you have exactly enough for every lock, so open the nearest drawer whenever you pick one up.
- Do not skip the Bunkroom. It is optional but contains both a Mr. Raccoon collectible and a Rare Metal. Missing it means missing out on both.
- Reroute power before entering the Boiler Room. Use the Joint Plug at the northeast terminal first. Walking into electrified water without doing this will kill Grace instantly.
- Collect everything before leaving the Care Center. All Lockpicks and locked containers are exclusive to this area. Once you progress past certain points, earlier sections become inaccessible permanently.
- Learn the Requiem ammo recipe. Analyze the Blood Specimen (Converged) at a microscope to unlock the crafting recipe before you start collecting Rare Metal so you know exactly what you are working toward.
